May 2022 - addledwalrus
Welcome to our interview for this month! We are with this talented author, addledwalrus, who penned the story, The Tour Guide.
Dark Fantasy Team: What was your inspiration for this story?
addledwalrus: My main inspirations were Japanese mythology, the urban fantasy genre, and some of the manga I read while growing up.
DF: Under which circumstances and when did you start writing this story?
A: I started this story in late 2019 when I had a lot of spare time.
DF: Tell us something about your characters and their development.
A: The protagonist, Kumiko, is an immortal kitsune who has been through her share of hardships and struggles to find purpose in an ever changing world. There is no easy answer to her predicament, but there is a chance she'll find some semblance of happiness by the end of the story.
DF: What was your biggest obstacle while writing this story?
A: I would have to say it's the research, along with getting into the head of an immortal and powerful being.
DF: When and why did you start writing in Dark Fantasy? What caught your interest?
A: I've been a reader of fantasy since childhood, so when I started writing, it was perhaps inevitable that it would be my genre of choice. There's also something about the darker aspects of life that appeals to me, so I decided to incorporate that into my story.
DF: What other genres do you enjoy writing other than Dark Fantasy? How would you compare it with Dark Fantasy?
A: I also enjoy writing historical romance, which tends to be more idealistic. That said, there is still plenty of room to explore heavy issues and have characters confront their personal demons.
DF: How was your experience in writing Dark fantasy? What do you think about it as a genre?
A: I found it to be a welcome challenge, and though it can be a difficult genre to define, I think that elements of horror and the supernatural are a given.
DF: A war has occured between two mythical creatures. How would you tackle the situation?
A: I find this to be an interesting question, since a situation like this does arise in my story. I won't reveal the outcome, but I've made a point of highlighting that although neither of them are innocent, they both have the opportunity to pursue a moral path.
DF: What are your future plans with this book? Be it on Wattpad or in general.
A: I am currently writing the final conflict, and I plan on doing some editing when the story is over. It is also the first in a planned trilogy, so for the sake of continuity, I hope to keep it on Wattpad until all three installments are finished.
Thank you so much, addledwalrus, for being with us and agreeing to our interview. Check out their work, The Tour Guide, to support our author!
