March 2022 - Kyra92

Welcome to our interview for this month! We are with this talented author, Kyra92 , who penned the story, The Dark Prince, which won the last March 2022 Dark Tournaments.

Dark Fantasy Team: When did you start writing this story? How was your experience while writing it?

Kyra92: It was after reading the prompts of the March month of the Dark fantasy contest, the plot for 'The Dark Prince' story flooded my mind. It was then I started writing this particular story. In general, I have been writing stories from my school days (my 5th standard). It started out as little childish stories.

I had a wonderful experience while inking down The Dark Prince. I usually have the habit of feeling myself as the protagonist in the stories I write to bring out the best feel. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the feel imbibed in it. Hope the readers too felt the same.

DF: Tell us a few things about your story and your journey on Wattpad. What do you love the most about them?

K: I've been wishing to write a dark fantasy for so long. The Dark Prince is one such story. Readers can relate to the teen crush of the protagonist. I didn't wish to bring gory stuff into this story. I wanted this to be a beautiful feel-good love story with a tint of darkness. In the future, I have the idea of turning this short plot into a full-fledged Dark Romance novel with some touch of gory stuff too.

When I wished to explore the world of writing and turn my passion into something fruitful back in 2015, I came across Wattpad. "My Wattpad love story" is the first story I read on Wattpad. Looking at the wide range of stories, I wanted my stories to be read too. Hence, I started posting my stories and poems on Wattpad. I love how crazy readers are here and how appreciative they are. They give you the much-needed love and critics at the same time. I hope they keep supporting me throughout my journey here on Wattpad. There are many profiles with mind-blowing stories but fewer reads. I would like to put a small request to Wattpad team, to suggest such stories and profiles to readers. I love how the team comes up with interesting contests every month. Much love and appreciations.

DF: What drew you to this genre? What things in this genre that appealed most to you?

K: I'm a person who is mostly attracted to things that are least ventured by others. I've always been a fan of the fantasy genre. There exists a whole new world that you can create as you wish. I love to explore and try new things out of my comfort zone. That's what drew me to this genre. There is always a dark side to every person and place. Even though the stories are in fantasy genre, I like them to be with a touch of reality. If you look around you and observe carefully, you'll find way more dark stuff than you could ever imagine. Inculcating them into your stories by drawing muse from them is what appealed to me more.

DF: Is this the only genre you write in or do write in other genres too? If yes, tell us something about it.

K: Though fantasy is my most loved genre, it is not the only genre I write. I love to cover all the genres in fiction. So far the stories and poems that I have written cover love, romance, erotica, adventure, horror and psychological thriller.

DF: Tell us something about your protagonist(s).

K: The Dark Prince has two protagonists; one male and the other female. The male protagonist is a powerful Prince character from a different dimension. He has a very strong royal background and possesses unimaginable powers. With the powers, they possess they could control and rule another dimension. The Prince is soft-hearted and his love for his mate is more important than the world for him. The female protagonist is a curious teenage girl who has a crush on the newcomer of the town. She is a kind and courageous girl. She grows from an immature teenager to a mature Queen at the end.

DF: What was the biggest obstacle you had to face while writing this story?

K: I didn't have enough time to develop the story well since I saw the contest notification much later. Other than that, I wanted to convey the feelings right to the readers. I wished to have some logic behind every action of a character. It was a bit difficult to knit everything together without boring the readers.

DF: What are some books that influenced your writing and maybe you, yourself, as a writer?

K: It's hard to point out one or two books. There are many that influenced me. To point out a few, I'd choose 'Beauty and the Beast' and 'Harry Potter'. I was awed by the simple yet magnificent story of the former at my young age. The latter had a huge impact on my teenage days. Words aren't enough to describe how wonderful and magical they made me feel. Out of all, I'd like to say my late grandfather was my greatest influence. It was the bedtime stories that he used to narrate to me that created an everlasting impact. I still crave to hear those every day. I'm working hard to bring life to the stories he narrated in my yesteryears. Hopefully, I'll reap fruits in few years, if God wills.

DF: If the world was attacked by unknown creatures, what would be your very first move to survive?

K: Well, my natural first instinct would be to crawl into a safe hideout. My writer's instinct would be to summon magical powers and fight against them. Oh ya! I could get help from the Dark Prince too *winks*

DF: What do plan on achieving in the future, be it on Wattpad or in general?

K: As they say, a writer lives through his words even after his death, I wish my words to live longer. I really hope to make my stories and poetries reach readers in every nook and corner. Of course, I wish to win the Wattys at least once. Dear readers do read my stories and shower your love. Thank you all.

Thank you so much, Kyra92, for being with us and agreeing to our interview. Check out their work, The Dark Prince, to support our author!
