NINE
Taehyung settled in nicely. He wasn't going anywhere. From the moment they confessed to each other, everything changed and when Yumi returned from wherever she had gone, she noticed it as well. The extra attention Taehyung was giving her nephew. He followed him everywhere, even when he was sculpting.
Yumi watched him move into their home. She noticed the little exchanges between the two and how Taehyung would tease Jimin in front of her and hold his hand. Yumi wasn't too sure what was going on since none of them have officially said anything so she waited to have a conversation with Jimin after Taehyung had left the kitchen. They had both been playing there, with Taehyung feeding Jimin fruit. The entire scene was so intimate, that Yumi felt as though she was interrupted. She had never seen Jimin that happy before.
"I'll be right back. Wait here" Taehyung said and pecked Jimin's chin before leaving. Now, Yumi was convinced They were in a relationship. She just had to confirm with her nephew.
Jimin was smiling to himself as he chewed an apple when Yumi interrupted his thoughts.
"Tell me Jimin, what's going on between you and Taehyung"
"I thought it was pretty obvious already"
He smiled wider. "Taehyung and I are dating. We have decided to live together"
Yumi wasn't that surprised but she was curious to know the details.
"How did it happen? Why did he choose you?"
"I don't know either. It just happened"
He frowned. "Do I have to explain our relationship to you?"
Yumi shrugged. "I'm sorry. It's just a bit shocking you know..."
She paused. "Wait...he's going to live here in this house with us?"
Jimin frowned more deeply. "Do you have any problem with that?"
Yumi immediately shook her head. "Of course not, it's your house. You can do whatever you want"
She sighed. "It's just...you barely know him. You don't know the kind of life he's led before coming here"
"Are you worried about me?"
"It's not that. I'm just saying. Don't you think you're moving too fast? You've only known Taehyung less than six months and now, you're living together"
Jimin rolled his eyes. "My parents only knew each other three months before getting hitched. What's your point?"
"I don't know... I just have a bad feeling"
Jimin shook his head "Just stop it right there Aunt Yumi. I know where you're aiming at but just hold it right now"
He took a deep breath "There's really nothing you can do to stop me. I've made up my mind to be with Taehyung and live with him. It doesn't matter how long we've known each other, what matters is how I feel about him"
"I'm not interested in knowing how he had lived his life before. I'm just happy he chose to stay with me and when he's comfortable enough, I'm sure he will tell me everything about himself. Until then, I won't rush him or put pressure on him"
"Do you trust him that much?"
"I have to. I don't want to begin our relationship on a doubtful note so please I'm begging you to please, stay out of this"
Yumi didn't reply. Taehyung walked in at that moment and she snarled.
"Congratulations!"
Taehyung answered with a smile and she walked off. Jimin was sighing, trying to repress his anger when Taehyung returned.
"Are you okay?" He asked, placing a hand on Jimin's shoulder. Jimin frowned.
"No, it's nothing. It's just my aunt thinks she knows what's best for my life"
He scoffed and Taehyung gathered Jimin in his arms, sighing.
"It's fine. I understand her. You do deserve to know everything about me..."
"But not now, I'll tell you with time"
He smiled fully. "But for now, I need to find a job. I can't be a burden to you while I'm living here"
Jimin shrugged. "You could work here!"
"No! I need to be able to take care of my man on my own"
He kissed his chin. "Don't worry about me. I'll be back soon"
Jimin nodded and heard Taehyung's retreating footsteps. He smiled to himself feeling happy. Happier than he had been in a long time and yet at the same time, he felt a sense of foreboding. He wouldn't deny that he was curious about Taehyung. He wanted to know everything about him but he had to be patient and not let his desperation show.
Taehyung returned in the evening while Jimin was finishing up his sculpture in the backyard. Jimin knew he was the one as he wrapped his arms around him and buried his chin in the crook of his neck. He kissed his chin and smiled.
"I'm home"
"How was it?" Jimin asked and Taehyung sat beside him.
"I got a job at a photo studio. The pay isn't much but it's okay, enough for me not to be a burden"
Jimin nodded his head. "That's good"
Taehyung's eyes moved over to the sculpting Jimin was making. It was a castle with a fountain in the middle. It looked so realistic that Taehyung couldn't help but marvel at the piece of work.
"You know Jimin, you could make a living out of this. Your works are exemplary. It's remarkable"
"If marketed well, it could sell for millions of dollars."
"Really? Do you want to be my manager?"
Taehyung chuckled. "That's a tempting offer my love but..."
His voice dropped. "Money does a lot to people. When you mix it with fame, you discover that you start to change from the person you once was"
"And start to drift apart from those who you used to be close to..."
His voice became brighter. "I kinda prefer being like this with you. No worries, no interference...just us"
"I don't want us to change. I want us to remain like this for a very long time"
He sighed. "But if you want to spread your wings, that's fine. I'll be right beside you when you do"
Jimin stared, wishing he could see his face, his heart pounding so fast. He smiled.
"I think I'm fine where I am," he said. He reached out his hand, searching for Taehyung's face but the latter gripped his hand tightly and guided them to his face. Jimin let his fingers roam across the features of his boyfriend's face.
"I can tell you're very handsome"
"You have no idea. I'm drop-dead gorgeous"
Jimin scrunched his nose.
Taehyung laughed nervously "Too much?"
Jimin nodded his head. "Too much"
Then he shook his head. There was silence for a while and Taehyung broke it.
"Jiminah, is there really a possibility that you can see again?"
Jimin shrugged. "Yes...But the surgery costs a lot of money. I can't afford it"
Taehyung nodded and didn't speak again afterward.
"Tae, Why did you ask all of a sudden..."
Taehyung smiled. "No...it's nothing"
Suddenly, someone entered. It was a customer and they wanted a room. Jimin was just about to attend to them when Taehyung stood up instead.
"You stay here. I'll take care of it"
Jimin smiled and Taehyung left. That night, Taehyung sat in front of the porch playing the guitar and humming a song as usual. Unlike before, Jimin didn't go to sleep this time. He went to meet him at the porch and sat beside him.
"You're here. It's late. Why don't you go to bed?"
Jimin shook his head "I can't, especially when I know you're still awake. I wanted to stay with you and then, we'll go to sleep together"
Teahyung hid a smile and resumed playing the guitar. Jimin listened, nodding repeatedly. He noticed it was always the same tune Taehyung played each night.
"What's this song you keep playing every night?"
"Oh, this? I don't know. I think it's something my mom used to sing to me when I was little. The tune gets stuck in my head and now, I always play it in my head"
Jimin nodded. "Your mom...where is she?"
Silence. Jimin could feel the tension in the air. Taehyung's voice sounded a bit cold and painful.
"She's gone. Same with my Dad"
He smiled bitterly "I'm just like you...alone"
Jimin immediately held his hand, squeezing it tight.
"I'm so sorry," he whispered.
"And you're wrong. You're not alone. Not anymore. You have me now"
Taehyung looked at him and a smile lit up his face. His sadness disappeared.
"You're right. I'm not alone anymore"
"Go ahead, play your tune," Jimin said and Taeyung continued playing, smiling throughout. A few minutes later Taehyung found Jimin asleep, head bent. He chuckled at the sight. He must have been so tired but he was determined to stay with him despite that. He stopped playing and kept the guitar aside before carrying Jimin in his arms. He carried him to his room and laid him down on the bed adjusting the blanket around his body but Jimin was only half awake because when he turned to leave, he felt him grope his arm quite strongly.
"Just for tonight. Stay with me" he murmured sleepily.
Taehyung smiled. "Okay just for tonight"
Was he ever going to refuse? He went under the blanket and immediately, Jimin pulled him closer, laying his head on top of his chest and sighing contentedly.
"Good night" he whispered.
"Good night," Taehyung whispered back. He had insomnia, finding it quite difficult to fall asleep at night but with Jimin beside him, he didn't know how but he found himself drifting off to sleep quite easily while caressing his soft black hair.
