Chapter 8
Kakashi. 'Cause he's adorable.
Thank you to the people who are taking the time to read my story, I appreciate it more than you know. I hope it will eventually become more popular! And now, chapter 8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sasuke's POV
He spent the rest of the day staring at the ceiling and trying to come up with different escape tactics. None were very good. His mind ran through every possibility. They were all useless without his chakra.
Sasuke was also getting extremely bored and fidgety. He would have never sat idle like this back home. He was always out training alone or with Itachi, honing his skills to perfection. He and Itachi had been working on a new jutsu recently. However, it didn't seem like they would ever finish it.
It was a blessing when sleep came. It would provide a break from the terrible memories that ran through his mind, while he lay there, with nothing to distract him.
But of course, the awaited respite failed to come. He woke up continuously throughout the night in cold sweats, shaking as he watched his mother and father die, saw his home repeatedly burned. Around 5:00 in the morning, he just gave up on sleep all together, and listened to the crickets chirping outside his window.
At about 7:30, Sakura brought him breakfast. At 8:00, Tsunade showed up to release him. She cut the part of the chain that kept him bound to the bed, leaving the chakra draining cuffs on his wrists.
"I suppose this will do," she muttered, eying them. "Now, go on out with Sakura to your new team, but hide those wings."
Rolling his eyes, he complied. By foldng them tightly into his sides, they looked practically non-existent when he put his shirt over them.
"Wow," Sakura commented. "I can't even tell they're there."
"Yes, I believe that was more of the point," he said sarcastically.
Sakura glared at him. "Don't get on my bad side."
Tsunade chuckled. "Yes, you probably shouldn't upset her too much. Sakura can be a bit...temperamental."
"Hn."
"Here's the key to the apartment you'll be staying in," Tsunade added, handing him the small metal object. "And of course, we'll need your name now." She gave him a pointed stare.
He turned his gaze to his feet. Did he want to give them any knowledge about himself? He could always give a fake name. But some small part inside of him called for something--something he didn't want to lose--the last bit of identity he had left. He wanted to hear his name spoken by other people--his real name. It couldn't hurt...
He stared directly at Tsunade now. "Sasuke. Sasuke Uchiha."
She gazed at him, her sharp eyes piercing his, trying to determine whether or not he was telling the truth. Then she smiled. "Good to finally know."
Sakura's POV
"Sasuke..." She breathed lightly, the name rolling around on her tongue. "That's a beautiful name."
He just scowled at her. "Whatever."
She blushed. "I'm serious!"
He snorted. "Are we leaving or not?"
"Yeah, come on," she said. "Let's go meet up with the rest of the team. We won't be going out on any missions, which are when we perform tasks for--"
"I know what missions are." He said, cutting her off.
"Oh..." Sakura said, bewildered. "Of course...anyway, we were thinking of doing a sort of get-to-know-each- others-techniques exercise. Like just a quick sparring session, to deduce your skills."
"Can't do much with these on," he remarked, gesturing to the cuffs.
Sakura tinged pink. "Y-yes, but you know, for taijutsu."
He sighed. "Figured as much."
Sasuke's POV
They were walking out of his room, down the hall. Sasuke frowned. There were no doors at the end of the hallway, yet Sakura walked straight to the end. She pushed a button on the wall that he hadn't noticed before. Suddenly, the wall slid open, revealing a tiny rectangular room. Stepping into it, she motioned for him to follow. He obliged, uncertain about where she was getting with this.
The doors closed, and Sakura pressed a button marked with the number one. Suddenly the room jolted downward, beginning to move. Sasuke started in surprise. Sakura noticed. "Never been in an elevator before?"
"No...what does it do?" He questioned, feeling slightly dumb.
"It's a metal box that's connected by cables. When these buttons are pressed, the cables move the box up or down." She informed him. "You didn't have a lot of technology where you came from, huh?"
Sasuke frowned again. His sky-dwelling clan had obviously been farther behind technologically than the more modern earth plane. But he lied, keeping up his earlier facade. "I don't remember much...I can't be certain."
Sakura nodded, keeping her eyes down. "Right. The concussion."
The elevator stopped, and the doors opened with a ding. They stepped out into a lobby. Clusters of nurses were hurrying back and forth, all dressed in white uniforms, talking in loud voices. However, as Sasuke passed them by, they all quieted and stared.
One of the females came up to him. "Hey, who are you? I don't think I've seen you around here. If I had, I would have remembered," she smiled, sending him a wink.
He brushed off her disgusting attempt to flirt with him, ignoring her and continuing to the exit with Sakura.
The nurse looked positively affronted. "Well then!" She huffed. "Talk about rude!"
Sasuke didn't so much as blink as he pulled open the door and walked out. He had never been interested much in girls, always putting his training first. Itachi had teased him about it sometimes, but he'd just reply, "I'll find someone when I'm ready, Itachi. And whoever it is has to be someone I'm willing to spend the rest of my life with. Not just some petty fangirl!"....
...He had to stop thinking about his brother. It was giving him a headache.
They passed the town market place, a bustling area filled with small shops and businesses. The door to a flower shop opened, and a girl with long blonde hair walked out. Her eyes lit up when she saw Sakura.
"Hey Forehead," she called, waving.
"Hi, Ino," Sakura called back smiling. Turning to Sasuke, she said, "That's my best friend, Ino Yamanaka."
Ino jogged over to them. She peered
around Sakura, staring openly at Sasuke. "Who are you?"
Sakura spoke up, knowing Sasuke wouldn't answer. "Sasuke Uchiha. He's new to our squad."
"I don't think I've seen you before," Ino gushed. "I would have remembered if I did."
Sasuke inwardly sighed. Here it went again. How long would it take for these girls to understand he wasn't interested?
Luckily, Sakura answered again. "He's a ninja I found out in the woods. He had a concussion and doesn't remember much about what happened to him. We're going to a training session right now."
"I'll go with you!" Ino squealed, eying Sasuke.
"Uh..." Sakura started, trying to come up with a good reason Ino shouldn't come.
"Ino! Where are you?" A voice called from the shop.
"Uh-oh," Ino muttered. "That's my mom. I'm not supposed to be out here right now. My break isn't till another hour, gotta go!" She said to Sakura. "Bye Sasuke!"
He ignored her, a stony expression on his face. "Let's go," he muttered.
They made their way to the training grounds in silence.
Sai and Naruto were waiting for them.
"Hey Sakura-chan, teme, you guys are late!" Naruto yelled.
Sasuke raised his eyebrows. "Teme?"
"Yeah," Naruto said. "'Cause you're so emotionless and nonsocial. Plus I still don't know your name."
Sasuke turned away, in no mood to deal with the talkative blond. "Where's your gray-haired teacher?" He questioned.
"He is also late," Sai supplied, smiling.
Sakura laughed. "Kakashi-sensei is always late. You'd better get used to it."
Resentment bubbled up in Sasuke. "I don't need to get used to it," he growled. "Because I won't be here long."
Naruto frowned, looking hurt. "We're just trying to be friendly."
He glared, frustrated with these people, though he'd only been in their presence a few minutes. Sasuke had no desire to become close to them. Every bond he'd had had been cut away already, except the one with Itachi. And that was the only one that mattered. Until he achieved his goal, he could forget about forming ties with other people.
Silence ensued after that, with Naruto and Sakura glancing anxiously at him, and Sai staring straight ahead, smiling at nothing.
A puff of smoke appeared a few feet away from them, and Kakashi came into view. "Sorry, everyone. I just got lost on the road of life."
"Save it," Sakura groaned. "Let's get down to business."
"Right," Kakashi said, turning serious. "Ok, Sasuke, here's how things are going to be run around here. You will accompany us on missions, though most of them will be low-ranking. It would be too difficult for you to perform any high ranking missions with us with your chakra restrained."
"Ok," Sasuke replied, not really caring. "How do you know my name?"
"Oh, I make it my business to know things," Kakashi answered vaguely.
"So, your name is Sasuke?" Naruto grinned. "I think I'll stick with teme for now."
"Nice to meet you, Sasuke." Sai smiled.
"Alright people, focus here now," Kakashi spoke up. "We're going to start."
"So, what type of sparring exercise are we going to do, sensei?" Sakura inquired.
Sasuke could practically see the wicked smile that was spreading across Kakashi's masked face. "Free-for-all."
Naruto squealed in delight. "Yeeeeeees!!! I love those!!!"
"You didn't let me finish, Naruto," Kakashi said. "Since Sasuke is at an unfair disadvantage, the rest of us won't be able to use our chakra either."
Naruto's face fell. "So that means--"
"You can't use your shadow clones." Kakashi grinned. "Your clones are really annoying."
"Naruto always summons a lot of shadow clones," Sakura explained to Sasuke. "So it's really difficult to get rid of them all. That's why he usually wins the free-for-all games."
Sasuke listened with detached disinterest. He could care less about what the team thought of him or his skills. At least that's what he told himself. His pride got the better of him. "Right then. Shall we start?"
Naruto grinned goofily at him. "You're on."
Dramatic ending! (Ok not really) Next chapter has an exciting face off!
So now Sasuke is officially part of team 7, even though he doesn't like them very much yet. The boy's just obsessed with revenge right now.
Of course, he's mad about being stuck with chakra restraints and idiot teammates, but he'll get over it, I promise...after a lot of drama;)
And yes...the Uchiha clan didn't have advanced technology, so Sasuke doesn't know what an elevator is...pretty funny if you ask me:)
Also, Sakura blushes a lot around Sasuke...just saying.
Last thing, have you noticed how everyone kinda ignores Sai? Poor kid :p
