Chapter 13

A sound between a whimper and shout came from her mouth as the nightmare ended and she woke up to the relief of being out of a cell. Zheth wished they would stop, it had been weeks since her rescue and she was still suffering from images she couldn't remember upon waking and it was ripping her sanity apart. She curled up under the thick comforter, easing her breathing until her heart rate was back to normal, before sitting up and getting out of bed.

"Zheth?" She froze as Hux's voice spoke up behind her sounding half asleep. "...Again?"

She nodded before realizing he might not be able to see her too well in the dark. "Yeah... I should start going to my quarters again, you're important to the First Order, I shouldn't wake you up in the middle of the night like this."

"Nonsense." A firm arm wrapped around her and pulled her back down. "You've been getting better, they aren't every night anymore... besides, maybe I enjoy hearing my monster's whines, knowing I hold the power to ease you once you wake up."

Zheth melted into his touch, the torn feeling fading as she focused on her lover's cold hand on her neck, his fingers tangling into her white hair. He was right, the remnants of what she could remember were dissipating and sleep was clouding her mind again as she cuddled closer into his torso. His heartbeat lulled her closer to the darkness before his alarm rang out to bring both of them to full consciousness.

"Don't go." It sounded pleading much to her displeasure but she didn't like being left alone with her pained thoughts, not being allowed to go on missions didn't help out either.

Hux was already out of the bed putting on a fresh shirt when he turned to answer. "Phasma could track your progress since your time back if you're up for it."

"Really?" She perked up.

"As long as you don't do anything rash, I still have Kylo Ren for that job." He was sounding unhappy and stressed already.

Zheth got up and turned him around from where he was trying to grab one of his great coats from his closet. "It's me, Ginger, I have a standard to live up to you know. "

"Hmm, unfortunately at times." He growled slightly and put a hand to her throat gently. "And considering Ren and I have a meeting with Supreme Leader Snoke... perhaps you can be a bit behaved today? I would bet all of my credits Ren will be twice as bad as usual and I would be less stressed if you didn't join in the chaos."

She smirked before allowing him to finish getting ready while she started changing into fresh clothes as well, though she would need to get some more from her own quarters soon. Zheth walked out of the room shortly after Hux's departure, preparing to go find Phasma, but instead turned in the opposite direction as General Organa crossed her mind. She had destroyed the woman's life and ruined any home she once had with the Resistance just so she could gain a better profit from the First Order and stay with Hux and Kylo, so why did she still have that nagging feeling of wanting to help the woman?

She turned back around, determined to ignore the feeling and find Phasma to prove she was ready for any missions, though she was pretty sure her physical condition was at full strength now, it was just her mind that was unstable. Zheth found Phasma where she always found the chrome armored female, the training room watching troops train. "Phasma?"

"Back again? You seem to be having bad luck when you come here." Phasma turned as she walked in.

"I'm better now. General Hux sent me here to prove it."

"Alright then, get in the ring, I'll test out your strength myself, these new idiots could use a good demonstration."

The punch landed right on her skull before she could block it and Zheth regretted not bringing her helmet. She staggered back and glared at Phasma before feigning to the side and striking head on, determined to end this fight before she could start wheezing again. Phasma was going a bit easy on her though, the blows weren't all that powerful, but they did test her limits and exploited any weaknesses she showed. However, she wasn't ready to go back to the med bay so soon. Zheth allowed her feet to be swept off the ground before grabbing Phasma's cape as she fell and drug the Storm Trooper with her onto the floor, easily rising over the armored opponent and placing her knee into Phasma's throat.

"How's... that?" Zheth panted, coughing a bit as she worked to slow down her breathing before it could get worse.

Phasma got back up. "Good. I would say you're ready for a mission as long as it isn't too challenging. You need your helmet on at all times if you want something with more action."

Duh, she knew that. She had just been distracted by other thoughts... thoughts that she shouldn't care about. Like her betrayal of the Resistance and the idea of possibly going back to them in hopes of making things right, though she wanted to stay with General Hux and her brother... perhaps change their ideas to cooperate with General Organa.

"Good to know." She responded before walking to the door. "I'll go tell General Hux I'm ready for the next assignment, since you look a bit busy here."

"I'll have this group trained up to be backup by the time your mission starts" Phasma turned to glance behind her as several troops fell over like a stack of dominoes as one member fell before shaking her head. "Or not... TR-9970 watch where you are standing!"

Zheth let out a small laugh before leaving and jogging a short distance down the hall, pausing to catch her breath at the corner before continuing to walk down to the bridge where Hux would most likely be over looking everything. She did find him there blatantly ignoring Kylo, whose anger was radiating across the room like a furnace, and looking slightly stressed out over something.

"General Hux." She risked interrupting whatever he was doing; surely her news would cheer him up, right? "Phasma has finished assessing me."

"Already?" Hux took a quick look at a clock. "Well then?"

"I'm fit to continue duty, but she recommends I continue wearing the specialized helmet if my mission involves action, though considering I was hired to kill and spy... I would assume I'm going to be fighting."

"We have received new orders from Supreme Leader Snoke. We are no longer going to waste time trying to negotiate an agreement with the Resistance; therefore their leader is useless to us. Take her on your mission to Naboo and kill her with the other Resistance loyalists there. The Storm Troopers and Ren will be taking care of most of the fighting and any Resistance member who goes to save them but it's your special task to make sure everyone there sees her death... understand, Predator?"

Zheth shot a glance at Kylo, was the anger he was giving off grief? No, it couldn't be. He killed his own father, what difference was it to kill his mother too? "Perfectly, General Hux. Though would it not send a better message if you were to do it? I m-mean you're General Hux of the First Order! I'm just a bounty hunter... The important thing is to kill her but I don't really have any rank or authority to strike that much fear into the Resistance-"

"Just follow my orders." Hux cut her off, much to her slight relief considering she'd been starting to ramble. "I had a uniform sent to your room, it's just a cloak so it will fit with your armor, I want you to wear it."

"Alright, why?" Zheth questioned.

Hux gave her an impatient look before explaining. "It has your symbol of promotion on it if you must know. From now on you work exclusively for the First Order as a solo fighter in the front lines of tactical attacks like these."

So, her loyalty had been decided then. Zheth couldn't speak, unsure of what might come out of her mouth, and instead gave a nod. She was staying with the First Order... once she put on the cloak there would be no asking for forgiveness... once she killed General Organa in that cloak there would be no going back to the Resistance. Zheth turned around and past Kylo Ren, who still seemed like he'd been ripping something apart as soon as he was out of Hux's sight, and to her quarters. Might as well get ready to go, there was no stopping what was going to happen... no matter how much she might want to stop it.
