Preface
Anima takes place in a dystopian, post-apocalyptic setting in which most of modern civilization is reduced to ruins and decay. As a result of a worldwide cataclysm known as the Rift, over two-thirds of the earth's population has either been killed off or turned into twisted monsters. But there's more to it than meets the eye. In this dark version of earth, there are more than just common zombies or "infected". Terrifying monsters from legend, folklore and mythology--the very things that parents tell their children to keep them from staying up after curfew--now roam the earth. Vampires, a porphyric humanoid subspecies that's bodies allow the digestion of blood-- is only one example of what now inherits the planet. Most are animalistic, savage creatures; so far gone that they may never have been human to begin with. But some are intelligent and still retain their humanity, but at the cost of their memories. They believe this world is the world they were born in. The world that has always been. That is because this world may not have even been our earth to begin with. What if this were an alternate world, where creation took a different path. A world where modern civilization was considered ancient and humans discovered alternative methods of evolution. Evolution that enabled them to survive in this dangerous game and to form kingdoms in a dark-age world. But the monsters are smart too. This is to be expected, as they were once human. They were just the unlucky ones.
I was unlucky.
