Simple. The End of the World.
Okay, so, this may be the last ever recording of history there is, cos everyone else doesn’t like writing. They shoved this on me cos apparently I’m not good enough to count the cans of food or take a night watch. So here I sit, writing about stuff that will never be able to be read, cos the world has ended and it can’t be fixed. Heh, makes me think of a song.
“Dance, baby dance like the world is ending. Dance, baby dance like the world is ending. Dance, baby dance cos the world is ending.”
There are so many parts in that song that would correspond to our current situation, but I’m too lazy at the moment to write them down or spend brain power trying to remember them so I’ll just not. I think the song was called Knights of Shame. Cool song and cool band, but I am getting off topic. I could say ‘I digress’, but it feels to fancy for the way I’m living at the moment.
Anyway, back on topic. You know the zombie movies and shows and apocalyptic garbage they showed before the world actually did end? Well if there was one thing I could choose to have done before this all happened, it would be watch those. Then at least I would have a fairly good image of how to survive… or at least attempt to. In all honestly I’m the only one in the group who didn’t watch stuff like that. The only one. How pathetic is that?
Okay, okay, okay, okay, I’m getting off topic again. Sorry, my mind tends to wander as you could probably tell already.
Okay, for real now, I’ll start. Ugh, Elijah is snapping at me for writing too loud. I can’t control the volume at which I write, Elijah! Idiot. Okay! Sorry! I really will start now. Right. Let me figure out when it started. I could start when the warheads were launched. Or I could start when he bees left. Or I could start with the floods. I can’t remember which one happened first. Ooh that’s frustrating. Let me go ask Seb. He’ll remember. He’s got a freaky good memory.
Elijah the idiot won’t let me go see Seb cos he’s got first watch so… Yeah. No Seb. Elijah won’t talk to me anymore, so I can’t get the answer from him. I could ask Amy. Oh, wait, no. She died a couple days ago. Hm. Clint is with Seb and Rachel is sleeping. Oh. Rachel and I are the only girls now. That sucks. Oh but hey! We each get a little more food cos we don’t have Amy to feed! That probably sounds really bad, sorry. Amy was a dog, not a person, so don’t worry. I’m not being heartless. …Was she a dog? I don’t remember. I haven’t gotten much sleep or food in the past few days so I can’t think straight right now. Maybe I should sleep then start again, cos I don’t remember what I couldn’t remember. Yeah, I’ll go sleep then start over. Good night.
Good morning again! Wait, not again, just good morning. Sorry, I’m still waking up. I have a lot of excuses for not making sense, don’t I? Well they’re legitimate excuses and I’m kind of living in a hard core survival situation and am under a lot of stress so I think that gives me plenty of merit to be… Urm… I can’t find the word. Delusional? Oblivious? Delirious? I think those are all a bit too extreme, except maybe oblivious, but that isn’t really accurate.
Seb is talking to me now. He’s asking why I want to remember why this all started. Now he’s asking me to stop writing while he’s talking to me. Just a second.
She put down her note book and pen, setting them on the floor next to her. Sebastian looked at her with a bit of confusion, but his face was mostly blank like it always was.
“Why do you want to know how this started?” Sebastian asked, squatting down in front of her. She pointed at her note book.
“Elijah the idiot wants me to write a record of what happened. He says it’s for ‘important reasons’ but I know he just wants me out of the way,” she answered, folding her arms and sending a glare towards the sleeping Elijah on the couch. “But yeah. I want to know so I can write the record in order.”
“Well I don’t remember,” Sebastian lied. She tilted her head and narrowed her eyes at him. He ignored her look and stood. “I’ll get Clint. He remembers.” And with that he walked off. She grabbed her note book again after watching him go.
Seb just lied to me! He said he doesn’t know how it started! Why would he lie to me? He’s never lied to me before I don’t see why he would now… At least Clint is nice. He remembers too; I know it. Heh, semicolon. I like those. Oh, here’s Clint. I’m not gonna write while he’s talking to me either.
Clint sauntered in and stood in front of her, looking down at her with his hands on his hips.
“Seb said you had a question?” He said, sounding tired; more tired than usual. She looked at him innocently, not noticing the obvious look of exhaustion on his face or the signs of it on his body.
“Yeah. How did this all start? Was it the warheads, the floods, or the bees?” She asked flatly, clicking her pen in and out in and out over and over again.
“And you want to know because Shepard told you to make a record,” He sighed, sending a look at Elijah again. She nodded.
“I know why he’s making me, but y’know… Not much I can do about it,” she looked back at her notebook, still clicking her pan. Clint nodded.
“It started with the bees. Then the food problem, and then the warheads in the fight over food, and then the floods from the aftershocks of the impacts of the warheads. As well as then the radiation from the warheads made the surface unsafe, which is why we’re down here and just trying to wait it all out,” he explained quickly, yawning after he was done. She nodded and looked at him worriedly, just now noticing the exhaustion he had.
“Are you okay, Clint?” She asked, putting down her pen and leaning forward to look at him closer.
“I’m fine. Just stayed up a bit late,” he answered quickly and nonchalantly, standing up in the same way that he had spoken in.
“How late?” she questioned, standing up as well and looking up at him and sounding like a mother, even though she was much, much younger than him. He just looked down at her for a moment blankly.
“Till I got up,” He told her, still in the nonchalant tone that was beginning to annoy her now.
“You need sleep!” She cried, flinging her hands above her head dramatically and not caring if Elijah woke at her raised volume.
“I do sleep.” He walked off without another word, not having enough energy to deal-slash-bargain with her. She huffed and sat back down, preparing to write and clicking her pen a few times just to try and wake Elijah up so she could bug him.
I got the right order but Clint didn’t sleep at all last night! He wouldn’t tell me why but I know why. It’s cos he likes to stay up and ‘think’. Really all he’s doing is laying there and making himself stay awake for in case anything were to happen, but nothing will! And even if something does, he can be woken up! Plus Seb is up when he isn’t! It makes me upset that he doesn’t sleep. If anything his not sleeping just makes him less prepared for an attack. Grr…
Anywho, the order is: Bees, food, warheads, floods, radiation. That’s what Clint said, and he’s got a good memory like Seb. But Seb just didn’t want to tell me for some reason. Men are frustrating and confusing. Heh, my mom told me one day that I would figure that out but I never really believed her. Oh well. Okay, I should probably start now. Though I don’t want to. I like just writing in this. It’s like a diary. I could never keep a diary when I was a kid. I’m rambling and digressing. I want to nap. I’m going to take a nap. Good bye.
Skip to the next day. Not in note book mode. Okay, three… two… one… Go!
She woke up on the couch with Sebastian sitting in front of said couch. He was reading the note book. She sat up and sighed, patting the top of his head for no reason. He looked back at her and smiled some, closing her note book.
“How’d you sleep?” He asked as she stretched. She shrugged and stood, taking her note book from him and sitting against the wall where she was yesterday. He looked after her for a moment before getting up and lying on the couch.
