Gas Station
"Jackson, get two hearty snacks and a drink, then meet me at the counter." Darien said.
Darien meandered down an aisle and grabbed two bags of beef jerky.
"Put your hands up!" he heard a man shout at the front of the gas station.
"S-sir, the truck just came to pick up the money. We have nothing!" the clerk said. His voice trembled. Darien quickly grabbed a stapler from a shelf and stealthily crept up behind the thief.
"Put your gun down," Darien said as he held the stapler to the man's back.
"You're just a kid. You wouldn't shoot me," the thief said.
"You wanna bet?" Darien tried to hide his smirk as he adjusted the stapler, pushing it deeper into the man's back. "Did ya see the house fire on the news last night? I did that."
"What business does a kid your age have burning down a house?"
"I have my reasons. The point is, don't overestimate my innocence. Yeah, now get outta here. Go get a job if you need money. Or skydive if you want the thrill." Darien readjusted the stapler and pointed at the clerk. "You. Take his gun. Jackson! Call the cops." The clerk forcefully grabbed the gun and pointed it at the thief. The thirteen year old walked over from the Hostess display he hid behind. The clerk pointed to the phone.
Once Jackson hung up, Darien spoke. "We need to leave. We can't stay here."
"Wait, sir. Thank you, thank you!" The man behind the counter firmly shook Darien's hand. "Anything you want. Free! Whole store if you want!"
Jackson placed a couple bags of sunflower seeds and a can of Peace Tea on the counter. "Is this good, D?"
"Yeah, bro." Darien tousled his brother's hair and put his own snacks on the counter.
"That's all?" The clerk asked.
"Yeah, that's all."
"No, no, you saved my store. You each pick out two more things!"
Jackson grabbed four candy bars.
"Good, good." The clerk pulled out a bag. "Here, sir. Thank you so much. Come back whenever."
"It really wasn't anything. I was just at the right place at the right time."
"No, sir, God put you here for that very reason. God has good plans for you in the future."
"Right." Darien scoffed. "We need to be on our way. Glad I could help with this guy." Darien pointed at the criminal as sirens started to blare. "Come on, Jackson. Let's go."
