Chapter 20
Bloody hell it's been long.... sorry for that. After this chapter I don't have anything in reserve (like small piece etc.) anymore so everything comes from scratch and tho i have a few ideas, i have trouble matching things up with what i've already used. Ideas and thoughts are always welcome and do give me more motivation. I look forward to the comments as always ^_^
And i hope you'll have a great day
ps. i was thinking of planning an alternate way that Jazz confesses to Danny that she knows of his alter ego. since i don't really feel like rewriting 'the ultimate enemy' episode with the mc in it (i don't mind using episodes and i quite like it but i also want to stay true to this story which with some things are just reallly difficult)

"And Danny Phantom saves the day once again" you chuckled, following after the group outside.
"That could have ended really bad" Sam reprimanded.
"But it didn't thanks to Danny" you retorted, hoping to keep the happy atmosphere just a little longer.
"I didn't do it alone" Danny interrupted, walking in-between you and Sam.
"You didn't?" Sam arched her brow.
"No, the Ghost girl who had warned me saved Jazz... If she hadn't been there Jazz would have..." Danny shook his head, not allowing himself to think of that outcome.
"Odd girl..." you mused, "what was her name again?"
"Knightwalker".
"Where did the name come from?" Sam questioned.
"She introduced herself the first time I saw her" Danny spoke thoughtfully, "though at first she said she was 066".
"066? Is she some kind of secret agent?" Tucker chirped in.
"A ghost helping another ghost as secret agent, I sincerely doubt that" Sam huffed.
"Maybe she is an experiment".
Tuckers words hit so close to home it stung. The moment you had told him your name you had no idea it could reveal snippers of your past. Mentally you patted your shoulder at your expression which didn't crack.
"Then maybe she is related to Vlad" Sam thought out loud.
"Could be" you added, your stomach cringing. Lying had become more difficult it seems.
"Guys, Vlad would not help me. Not in a million years" Danny countered.
"Then maybe some secret pro-ghost organisation!" Tucker exclaimed.
"Or a cult" you hummed.
"A cult for ghosts? Don't you think Danny would have been recruited by now then?" Sam snorted.
"Perhaps they don't know how to contact him. Last time I checked ghosts lack phones" you chuckled.
"Can imagine Skulker or Technus with one" Tucker countered.
"I think they would have changed them into something more... Weapon-like".
"Guys, back to the point" Danny interrupted.
"What was that again?" you asked innocently.
"We need to figure out if the girl is a threat" Sam sighed.
"But she helped us, right?"
"For now, she did".
"Such pessimism Sam" you noted.
"Do you have any proof she isn't after Danny" she arched a brow.
Suspicion
"She warned Danny and saved Jazz without asking anything in return?"
"For all you know it's a plot to let Danny's guard down" Sam retorted.
"Guys, she helped us and barely appears. I don't think we have to watch out for her that much" Danny reasoned.
"Can't hurt to be cautious" Sam grunted.
"That, can never hurt" you agreed, knowing that completely defending the mysterious ghost girl would place suspicion on you.
"Alright, we will just keep an eye out whenever the ghost girl appears, just like every other ghost" Tucker concluded.
"Leave the shoot first and ask questions later for another ghost though" you nodded.
"Yeah, she could give another warning or something" Tucker agreed.
"That's that then" Danny smiled, "who's up for some well-deserved nasty burger?"
We all agreed with a laugh and headed towards the questionable food restaurant.
"Well that was a drag" you groaned, dropping face first into the bed.
"If it's bothersome, don't bother" Luciel noted.
"It wasn't that bad" you mumbled into the comforter. You could almost feel the eyeroll in Luciel's step as he left the room. With a sigh you rolled on your back and stared at the white ceiling. After such a long and socially active day it felt like all your energy was drained. After the noise at the Nasty burger, the silence was like a loving embrace. It was enough just laying there in all the comfort of your own room.
The silence was suddenly interrupted by the buzzing of your phone. With a groan you dragged yourself off the bed and scuffled through your schoolbag to find the damned device. When the phone was in your hands and the name of Danny flashed across the screen. With an arched brow you unlocked the screen to look at the message.
Hey, you busy tomorrow?
Your fingers set on typing.
Not really, was planning on catching some sleep, read some books. How so?
You took a seat on the bed as Danny started typing.
I could use some help with catching up on homework... Would you mind?
Not really, but how much behind is behind?
Barely did anything after that talk with Spectra...
Aye, that's a lot. Don't worry, the benevolent Miss Knight shall drag you through this exhausting quest.
You're a live safer
Isn't that your job?
Lol, would have been easier if it wasn't
Can't deny that. What time suits you?
Free all day
Welcome all day
See you at 10?
At night? Look, I know you like procrastination but that is too much
Am
Just kidding. It's good. See you then?
😊see you then
With a chuckle you switched the phone with a good book on the nightstand and began a journey of magic and swords until slumber overtook your body. Not the smartest idea since in the morning, the alarm clock that was supposed to be set was instead the ringing of the doorbell.
You yelped as the startle got you falling of the bed. Groaning you glared at the alarm clock. 10:03. "Well shit".
Groaning you pushed yourself off the floor, just in time to hear the bell ring again. By the time you did a quick one over in the mirror to marvel at your bed hair and sheet marks on your face, note the sarcasm, the door opened downstairs. "Please don't be mean" you whispered under your breath while running downstairs to spare Danny the wrath of your brother.
"And what might you be doing here so early?" Luciel glowered at the much smaller boy.
"I-I... Uhm (y/n) said I could come at 10 to do homework" Danny smiled nervously.
The last two steps were skipped as you almost flew towards your brother to pat his shoulder. "Sorry, I fell asleep yesterday before I could tell you" you smiled sweetly at Luciel before turning to Danny. "Don't worry, he don't bite".
"Yet" Luciel whispered turning his eyes to you, "keep it civil" was all he said before leaving the door for the much more comfortable living room.
"Sorry, for that" you stepped out of the way so Danny could walk in.
"No worries, I've met worse glares" Danny whispered.
"Oh that isn't a glare" you smirked, "that's his face".
Danny couldn't help but softly chuckle as he followed after you up the stairs.
"Just give me a moment. Can't leave my hair like this" you said, beckoning Danny to sit at the desk while you snatched a hairbrush from the table and trotted over to the mirror.
"Why not? It's cute"
"It's a nightmare. Can't believe you think this is cute" you chuckled brushing through the dishevelled locks of hair.
"It is what it is" Danny shrugged, taking out the study books from his backpack.
"It's a maze of horror, that's what it is".
"If you had visited the maze in the ghost zone you wouldn't compare your hair to it".
"Still would. You are lucky with short and knot-free hair" you retorted.
"It's not knot-free... I think".
"Do you ever brush it?"
"Sometimes in the morning"
You paused your brushing to stare at the man. "That is knot-free and low maintenance. Be glad".
Danny watched on as you continued torturing your hair with the brush with a pained face. "Yeah, perhaps I should be".
When every knot had met their doom you tied it up in a messy bun to keep it from interfering your work. Then you darted over to the bookcase and pulled out the school books and the notebooks of your answers. "What's first? Shall we start with the hellish math or perhaps some devilish history might be more chewable in the morning" you mused, dropping the books in the table in front of Danny.
"Let's start easy with English, then slowly work down into hell" Danny concluded, pushing the momentarily unneeded books to the side.
"English it is" you spoke, doing the same.
The morning passed faster than Danny would have liked. It was as if for every exercise he solved a new one was created. Around halfway the morning he decided he was on track enough to receive a passing grade and so he switched it over to History. There wasn't much to teach on that, it's mainly a memorizing course if you master the skill of giving answers in a pleasing way.
Since there were more subjects to go over you switched it quite early to biology, sparing Danny another few hours before math and physics and the like.
Just as you reached for the math book to open it Danny slammed his head on the table with a groan. A small grin tugged at your lips. "Lost hope in life?"
"Yes" he grumbled.
"You can always die whenever you wat" you whispered.
For a moment he glanced up confused before realizing the joke and giving a grunt. "I'd like to stay alive, thank you".
"Just a suggestion" you chuckled, ruffling his hair. "We can take a break, it's already a miracle you lasted till 1 o'clock before slamming your head on the table".
"Much appreciated" he sighed, rising from his chair.
"Want to fly about and have lunch afterwards or just lunch?" you questioned, knowing how much a few minutes flying can better ones mood.
"I think I'll just have lunch. The chance of encountering a ghost and losing more time is big" he grumbled.
You stood up as well, "and our hero can't ignore all the damsels in distress" you chuckled, going downstairs.
"Don't really have choice" he sighed.
Your smile faltered into a sympathetic frown. It seems he really is down from all the studying. Maybe a bigger factor is the exhaustion from past week events. Not that he ever has a vacation with the 24/7 ghost activity of Amity park.
"Toast? Egg? Bacon? Pancakes?" you summed up, opening the fridge.
"Surprise me".
"If you weren't such a good student I would have let you eat those words" you chuckled, pulling out some milk, cheese, eggs and bacon to make some bacon and cheese pancakes.
"What would you have done?"
"Baked the bacon in fruit juice and scrambled the eggs with 10 gram of pepper" you mused.
"Please don't..."
"I already said I won't, I'm a woman of my word" you chuckled, getting busy.
As if dragged by the smell, Luciel strode into the kitchen and took a seat opposite of the awkward Danny. "Hello to you too, want some pancakes with an extra side of heartburn?" you joked, flipping the well done pancakes on a plate before continuing on another.
"I would like three".
You chuckled as Luciel didn't have a retort to give. He was never the joking kind of guy, neither were you. Most of the cynical jokes could be considered half-truths.
The silence in the kitchen was more pressing on Danny than either one of you. Perhaps the boy needed to loosen up, but if Luciel was glaring at him in the same way as he opened the door, then Danny would have no way to do so.
"And here we have the delicious heart-attacks. Bon Appetit" you chuckled, handing each man a plate before dropping down with your own.
"Thank you"
"Thanks" Danny quickly moved his attention to the food and began eating it as if it could chase away the tension that had build up.
Your brother on the other hand ate as if there was nothing different and enjoyed every bite with a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
"How is schoolwork going?" Luciel looked expectantly at you.
"It's going pretty well. Danny isn't as slow as one would expect from looking at his grades".
With a hum Luciel's attention turned to Danny, his piercing stare ever so intimidating. "Is that so... how come you have such grades then?"
Danny swallowed, almost choking on the bite of pancake.
You softly kicked Luciel under the table, knowing he was doing this on purpose.
"I don't have much time to study" Danny smiled sheepishly.
"Oh, then what keeps you? Seeing how my sister is away from home so much, I'd say you have plenty of time".
"I'm sorry, but I just don't, I-" his eyes darted pleading towards you.
"His parents are ghost hunters and not the most quiet people on earth" you added, "it's not like he can study at home".
"Then the library?"
"Have you seen the people going to our school Luciel? Those morons seen the library as a social gathering instead of a place to study" you huffed coolly.
Luciel couldn't help but let a small smirk pass his lips. The lies rolled over your tongue like most natural thing in the world. What can you say, practice makes art.
"Yeah..." Danny added, having difficulty of thinking of any reasonable excuses that could aide his cause.
"Well, don't come too often" Luciel picked up his empty plate and dropped it in the sink before he strode off.
When he was out of earshot Danny leaned over. "I think he hates me".
"Don't worry, he hates everyone" you chuckled patting his back.
"And thanks for covering" Danny added with a smile.
"No problem" you smiled back and went on to clean the plates and cutlery.
"Do you think he could come to like me?" Danny asked, suddenly standing next to you.
Your attention didn't shift from the dishes as you spoke. "Perhaps. But not quite likely. It's already an achievement that he tolerates you" you looked at him with a mischievous smile, "considering you keep me from home so much".
"It's not like I do that on my own..."
"Of course not, the ghosts have a hand in it as well" you mused.
"Don't speak so loud" Danny glanced at the doorway.
"Don't worry, he's in the living room doing god knows what" you waved him off.
"Still... I don't think that if he knows you aide me in my issues he will like me any better".
"Perhaps if he sees how you protect me and the city he might have some sort of respect for you".
"You really think so?" he glanced up with such hope that you reconsidered completely shooting him down.
"I think he has more problems with the fact that I am there than you being there as well".
He sighed, "sorry".
"Don't be. It's my own choice. From the day I discovered it all I also could just leave you guys for those popular pricks".
"You honestly considered that?"
"No, have you seen the dashing idiot? Who wants to be associated with that dumbass" you chuckled.
"Fair enough".
"Let's get back to work" you smiled, turning back to your room.
"Yeah".
Studying went as smooth as in the morning, you'd have liked to say but his brain just couldn't keep up with all the formulas and their uses.
"I don't think I'll ever get this" he muttered, having a staring contest with one of the assignments.
"Don't worry too much. Just learn the formulas and apply them..... the difficult part is to know when to use which and not screwing up a minus or plus" you attempted to encourage him but only let him sink deeper.
"How about we do this tomorrow? You worked the whole day".
"Yeah... that'll probably be better" he sighed, shoving the book away so he could faceplant on the table.
"Don't make out with the table. It hasn't given their consent" you smirked.
He turned his head so his ear was on the table, "sssh, do you hear that? It's telling me let me be hit by it".
You chuckled leaning on a propped up hand. "And how is it going to hit you? will it throw himself on you like Paulina on a new lip-gloss?"
"She has a new one again?"
"You realize the differences between her lip-glosses?" something in your gut tightened.
"Yeah, I mean... no... I mean, it's more like a celebrity out of your reach you know? She is just so beautiful" he almost drooled.
"She? Beautiful?" you sighed shaking your head, "I don't understand your tastes. If she is beautiful then I bet my (h/c) hair and (body type) is far from your standards".
He shot up and panicky waved his hands. "Definitely not! You are the most beautiful of the school! ... I-I mean-" he began to stutter rubbing his neck shyly.
You gave a small smile, feeling the heat rush to your cheeks. "Is that so, it seems I underestimated your taste".
He gave a goofy grin looking away, "Can't help but say the truth".
"Well can't say many share the good standards. I mean... they put Dash as a forefront of guy you should be" you shook your head, "truly dissapointing".
"Well... if they realized it then they would chase after you" Danny muttered looking away.
"Don't you remember that Dash did? At some point he gave up I think but he still thought I belonged to his doll collection".
"Doll collection? Can't say Paulina's friends are dolls".
"Difference in aesthetics I suppose. But anyway" you stood up and opened the window to let some fresh cool air blow through the room. "I think it's time for you to go back home... if you want to be on time for diner" you gave half a smile as he stood up.
"Yeah I guess... hey, want to study at my place tomorrow?" he asked shyly.
"Sure... did my brother scare you that much?" you smirked, punching his shoulder teasingly.
"Not that much... just that being in a room alone with you with just your brother downstairs who doesn't come up because he dislikes me. Not really the best situation to concentrate" he spoke with tinted cheeks.
You tilted your head. "Why wouldn't that be? I'd say having a quiet room to study in would be convenient".
"It's not that" he looked up with a sudden determined look, "it's difficult to concentrate to be in the same room alone with the person I like".
You paused, cheeks turning hot. "I... sorry I hadn't considered". You looked down biting your lip.
"I didn't mean to say it's your fault. It's definitely mine. But that's why I'd like to study at my place tomorrow".
"What time?" you glanced up at him. Suddenly noticing the slight height difference making you feel small enough to perfectly fit in his arms.
"10 alright with you?"
"Yeah..." unconsciously your eyes were focused on his chest where a person, you, could perfectly snuggle into.
"So (y/n)..."
You shook your head and smiled at him. "Sorry, odd thoughts. I will lead you out".
Just as you went for the door you felt a pair of arms wrap around you from the back. The first reaction was to tense up. Coming from the back was never a good idea for either you or your brother. But as it registered it could only be Danny you leaned back, into him. "What's gotten into you?"
"You are just too damn cute" he muttered into your hair, as if hiding his face even though you couldn't really see him.
"Okay, now I'm beginning to think something is wrong with your eyes. I may be in the upper league of attractiveness, but I'm far from cute" you huffed. The scars that marred your pale skin, the fierce look you could have, nothing about that leans towards cute.
"Then I don't want them to be healed" he chuckled, moving his head from the top of yours to your shoulder and burying his face into it. His muscles completely relaxed and he let out a heavy sigh.
"You will get through it. Just like always" you smiled and ran your hand through his hair.
He mumbled something incomprehensive into your shoulder before letting you go with a sly smile. "Thanks".
"Don't mention it. Though a note for the next time. I prefer to be hugged up front".
"I thought girls liked it from the back?"
"Perhaps, I just don't".
"Noted" he grinned.
