Chapter 17

Once home you made yourself comfortable on the couch in the living room. Danny followed your example. You couldn't help but smile as he took a seat next to you, instead of opposite or at the side. "So... we still need to eat" Danny chuckled. Realizing that you stood up again, 'he distracts me from food. That is new' you thought to yourself as you went off to the kitchen. Putting the fire on, you put a frying pan, with butter inside, on it and cracked some eggs in it. When the egg was turned once you took some herbs and cheese and spread it over it.

"That smells good" Danny's voice startled you as he peered over your shoulder. "For one?" he questioned with a mocking grin. You rolled your eyes, "I know I am a glutton, but I have enough manners to serve guests as well" you huffed putting the lid on the pan to make the cheese melt faster. You turned and faced Danny with crossed arms. "Bread or no bread?" "That is the question" Danny finished. "Seriously, want bread with it?" you grinned and moved over to the cabinet, pulling out a loaf. "Yeah" Danny said as his blue eyes followed you move through the kitchen. His stare burned in your back, but not in an unpleasant way.

When the egg was finished you cut it in half an put it on two separate plates with bread on the side. Handing one over to Danny he thanked you and followed after you to the living room. You both sat down in the same position as earlier and began eating. "So, you can actually afford to take a day off from school AND ghost hunting?" you questioned curiously. Danny shrugged, "school is regular, but ghosts appear at random. Only at night I do an extra patrol of the city". "For a peace of mind before you go to sleep?" "Something like that" he said his eyes focussing on the food on the plate. "This tastes pretty good. Better than the pink goo you first took to lunch" he chuckled. "Yeah, I banned my brother out of the kitchen. The utensils stay in better shape that way" you mused. "Is he that bad?" he frowned, confused as to how a 25 year old was unable to cook. "Yeah, just doesn't have any talent for it I guess".

After both of you had finished eating you began some small talk until the clock chimed 5 o'clock. You looked surprised at the two pointers, not realising you had been chatting for two full hours. "I'll make the absent note" you announced and stood up. Danny's eyes followed you as you took two papers from a stack and began filling in the reason as to why you both were absent. "How does the autograph of your parents look?" you questioned. Danny shrugged, "dad has some kind of weird scrabble, while mom uses her name and put some fancy lines over it". You walked over to him and made some guesses on a piece of blanc paper. After 15 minutes of trying different shapes Danny pointed at one, "that looks like it, just an extra line here and a D across there" he explained. You nodded and edited the autograph. With a nod of Danny you reproduced it on the absent note and handed it to him. "This should keep Lancer quiet.... This time" you mused folding your paper and putting it in your pocket. Danny nodded and did the same, "once again, you are a life safer. My parents aren't a huge fan of him. Neither of bad behaviour" his shoulders slumped as his eyes seemed distant. A sympathetic smile formed on your lips while your hand patted his back encouraging. "They do not know how good you are. If they knew how many lives you safe, I'm sure they will be proud". He looked up and gave a small smile. "I hope so" he muttered.

With a loud smack on the back Danny fell forward with a yelp. He glared over his shoulder while rubbing his back. "What was that for?" he groaned. A devious smirk played on your lips, "to stop your useless thinking". Danny rolled his eyes and stood up, "and you needed to hit me for that?"

You stood up in front of him, looking up into his unamused blue orbs. "Yes, I could try something different to shut you up though" you smirked. Danny's eyes twinkled and a grin mirroring yours appeared. "And how will you do that?" he challenged.

Your heartbeat sped up, a warmth filling your body. In a quick movement you pulled his collar down and met his lips halfway. He gasped in surprise but soon his arms wrapped around your waist and he kissed sweetly back. After minutes you pulled away and grinned. "See? Now you are quiet" you mused. Danny rolled his eyes, "you were too". "Ah, sush you tweep" you chuckled and let him go. Danny chuckled and put his hands into his pockets, his thumbs sticking out. "So..." he started, making you arch a brow, waiting for him to continue. "Are we... well you know- Are you my girlfriend?" he questioned, a glint of uncertainty in his eyes which filled with hope.

You paused staring dumbfounded at him. The word girlfriend had your stomach feel heavy. It was difficult to put a label on something or someone. To you the world wasn't black and white, most of the time it was a shade of grey. The better question would be. Do you love him? What Sam said about how you recognize the feeling of love, that did quite match the feeling you had for Danny. How something fluttered inside your stomach, how warmth spread from the places he touched and how the little things he did or said cheered you up. The most important was: He opened you up, he broke your guard down and made you feel like you could tell him things that had to be kept secret from others.

He told them about your scars

"(y/n)?" Danny questioned interrupting your thoughts. His hopeful eyes were dimmed. "I- uhm..." you stuttered looking down. Taking a deep breath you looked up, meeting his eyes. "You... you are the most important person in my life next to my brother" you declared, more for yourself than him. Danny lightened up at that statement. "I can't really say if I am your girlfriend, since I have no experience with that" you snorted "I already have difficulty with normal emotions. I can't really distinguish love from friendship. I think" you muttered. The raven haired male looked a bit taken back by that statement. "You don't kiss your friends" he frowned. Your head snapped up to meet his eyes, "I-" your eyes cast down. Unconsciously you bite your lip, a heavy feeling feeling your stomach, as if someone was throwing rocks into it.

Danny sighed and put a hand on your shoulder, "it's okay, you seem to have a lot more going on than I know...." There was a flicker of disappointment in his eyes, "I won't force an answer out of you. Just know that I would want to be your boyfriend" he said with a helpless smile. Your emerald eyes had a watery shimmer to them as you looked up, "thanks, and sorry" you said apologetically. He shook his head and patted your back. "It's fine. I got to go now though" he said glancing over to the clock. "I'll see you tomorrow at school" he said before walking past you to the door. You turned on your heel and watched him until he disappeared out of the door.

"Hey, you are rational and mostly right... what should I do?" you questioned, wondering if the voice would talk to you.

Silence was all that filled your head. With a sigh you turned into the kitchen and began to cook diner.

While cooking your thoughts began to wander. The conversation of mere minutes ago repeating in your head over and over again. Then suddenly your knife stopped in mid air and you stared at the tiles on the wall. "He did tell Sam and Tucker about my scars, did he?" you questioned out loud. "He did".

Your head snapped around to find Luciel floating in the doorway. A sigh escaped your lips while leaning back against the kitchen table. "Did you spy on them while I was grounded?" you asked bluntly, since it probably happened in that time. He gave a curt nod and sat down at the table. "The last day he cracked. The goth girl and the geek had noticed he was bothered by something and had been asking what was up. The geek gave up sooner, it seems he knew when to take distance. The girl on the other hand" he grunted. You poured some tea in a mug and handed it to Luciel who gave an appreciative nod. "She resembles the human nature I am used to more than the other two" he concluded sipping on the steaming tea. "I don't think an ultra-recycle vegetarian is what you'd call the standard" you retorted. He rolled his eyes, "I mean the nature of her. The unlimited curiosity that does not take anyone else but her into account" he explained. You hummed and turned back to the food. "I don't think Tucker and Danny don't have that though" you mused. "All humans have it on some level, just like how they are on some level evil. However, at least they respect their friends need for distance. The girl doesn't seem to get that" he stated. "And you know that from what? Three days?" you snorted. "I have been watching them since they became your friends".

You paused and glanced over your shoulder at Luciel who casually sipped his tea. "And why is that?" you questioned but already knew the answer. "To pro-" "tect me" you finished with a sigh and looked back at the food. "I am not weak" you muttered chopping the onions harsher than needed. "I am not saying that" he snapped. You shoved the onions into the frying pan and began to stir it. "Then what?"

"You know, I have said it a thousand times. Your judgement is partly based on emotions and emotions cloud judgement" his glare burning in your back. Your shoulders slumped with a sigh and helpless blue eyes turned to the raven haired male. "And why is it that you have no issues with it?"

Luciel stood up and walked over, wrapping his long arms around your small frame. "Because, little fairy, I am a man out of puberty, emotions have not clouded my judgement as a result of those filthy humans" his hand ran comforting through your long hair, "you are in the time of your life where emotions are like a storm, unexpected and irregular. But they will form you into something I won't be able to become anymore". You looked into his sea blue eyes, "a wreck?" you spat. Luciel pulled you back a bit and gently lifted a strand of hair away from your face, "a human" he spoke with a soft voice. A tune that held longing and wonder. You bit your lip and wrapped your hands around his body in defeat. "You will help me right?" you asked, voice muffled by his cold torso. "Of course, little fairy" he smiled.
