Chapter 1: Danny Hates Christmas

Danny, Jamie, Sam, and Tucker were walking through the mall, seeing everything and everyone ready for the holidays. The only one who wasn't into it at all was Danny.

"Merry Christmas!" Sam greeted to one person.

"Happy Holidays!" Jamie said to another.

"Happy Hanukkah!" they both greeted a Rabbi.

Then they noticed Mikey, one of their classmates.

"Merry Christmas, Mikey," Sam greeted as Jamie waved.

"You?! Are being cheery?! IT'S A TRAP! IT'S A TRA-A-A-AP!" Mikey yelled as he ran away.

"What's with him?" Sam asked.

"I don't know," Jamie shrugged.

"What's with you?" Danny asked, still not in the mood.

"Aw, perk up, Danny," Tucker said then stated, "I know you're in your annual holiday funk, but this is the one time of year Sam isn't instantly dour."

"Yeah. It's so great, it's scary," Jamie added.

"Have a kickin' Kwanzaa!" Sam greeted.

"And the one time of the year--" Tucker continued.

He took off his regular beret and put a new one on. This one had mistletoe dangling above it. Danny looked at it like "What the heck." A woman came out with her dog and Tucker decided to make his move.

"Hey there, Miss. How about spreading a little Christmas cheer?" he smirked.

He puckered up, but the woman got her dog to lick his lips. Once it was done, he opened his eyes and pondered for a moment.

"You had liver for lunch," he remarked.

Danny was then being bombarded with busy shoppers and seeing anything Christmas didn't help.

"I HATE THE HOLIDAYS!" he yelled.

"I don't get it! How can anybody hate this time of year? I don't even celebrate it and I love it!" Sam stated.

"I think you love it more than me in this case," Jamie joked then seriously answered, "But you don't know about 'the fight.'"

"'The Fight'?" Sam questioned.

"Shall we show her, Tucker?" Jamie asked.

"We shall," Tucker nodded.

They gestured towards the line towards Santa, where Jack and Maddie Fenton were arguing at the front.

"Santa Claus is a ho-ho-hoax!" Maddie yelled.

"Heretic! Santa's real as real can be!" Jack objected then told the kids, "Don't listen to her, kids. Santa's coming tonight in his sleigh full of goodies! Keep the ho-ho-hope alive!"

"Flying at that altitude? In the open? At that speed? He'd pass out! Or burn to a crisp from friction! It's scientifically impossible!" Maddie pointed out.

Danny had had enough at this point.

"If you need me, I'll be in the Ghost Zone getting rid of some frustration," Danny grimaced, holding a bag then left.

Jamie watched sadly as her best friend left. Sam put a hand on her shoulder.

"How long has this been going on?" Sam wondered.

"For as long as I can remember. I always love having Danny around, but when Christmas comes, his personality changes from himself to Scrooge," Jamie answered.

"Well, you've known him longer, so you should know there's something we can do," Tucker said.

"I don't know, guys. I've tried in the past. He has even told me that I'm the only good part of Christmas for him, but it doesn't seem to make a difference when he goes back to his old ways the next Christmas," Jamie told them.

"What about at your Christmas party? Doesn't he ever show up?" Sam asked.

"He only stood by to give me my present, but only when we're alone. Then he leaves and I don't see him till after Christmas. I just wish I really could help him," Jamie answered.

They continued walking around the mall, trying to get back in the Christmas spirit, but Jamie couldn't help but think of Danny. Will he be okay? She liked--no--loved Danny, so it was hard for her to see him go through this.
