CHAPTER 9: SKINWALKER
About a week after, Dani was permitted by Dean to go in the woods outside the bunker.
She spent a lot of time walking through the woods, spreading her wings to full length.
She closed her eyes and listened to the birds and the insects, enjoying nature.
After around two hours of wandering, Dani sat down with her wings spread behind her, eyes still closed.
Then everything just... stopped.
Everything was silent, except for the lonely ringing in her ears.
Dani opened her eyes and was met with the sound of heavy steps disrupting the leaves and sticks around her.
She scrambled to her feet in time to see a big chocolate Labrador burst through the trees.
It ran at her and jumped, tackling her to the ground.
She felt the dog sink its teeth into her left arm, she shrieked as blood ran down her arm, struggling to get it off of her.
The dog jumped up and ran off bolting through the forest.
Dani laid there for a few moments, waiting until the steps faded.
Dani sat up and tried to wipe the blood off, only really succeeding in smearing it.
The bite was gone already. She was utterly confused, she ran to the bunker.
.
.
.
After a few minutes, she saw the bunker door.
She opened it and yelled, "Dean!"
A yell said, "He left like ten minutes ago for a supply run with Sam!"
Dani ran down the steps and said, "Well call them!"
Kevin stared at her a bit open-mouthed at the blood coating her arm.
She snatched the phone out of Kevin's hand and dialed Dean's number.
It rang four times before, "What do you want Kevin?"
Dani replied, "Think again, where are you?"
"On the way back?" Was the confused reply.
Dani said, "Well drive faster, we have a problem."
"What pro-" Dani cut him off by hanging up.
Kevin finally coming out of a trance said, "What the hell happened?"
Dani shook her head and walked to the kitchen with Kevin trailing behind.
"I don't know, I was sitting on the ground, and everything just went silent. This-This dog came out of no where and it bit me. I don't know where the bite went. It just vanished," she rambled on.
She washed the blood off, as she finished the garage door opened and slammed shut.
Dean strolled in the kitchen and asked, "So what's the problem?"
Dani held up her arm and said, "A dog bit me, the bite disappeared completely before I even got back. Ask Kevin, I came in here covered in blood."
Kevin nodded and Dean swore under his breath and said, "Come here,".
Sam handed him a silver knife from his belt. Dean grabbed her arm and pressed it against her arm. Her skin sizzled and melted.
Dani jerked her arm back and yelled,"Son of a bitch! What the hell!"
Dean dragged his hand down his face and looked at Sam who asked, "Skinwalker?"
Dean nodded, "Has to be. Okay kiddo, no biting people, like, ever. Stay away from our silver and stay inside, and away from other hunters. Got it?"
Dani nodded and asked, "Okay why would I bite someone, and what's going on?"
Dean sighed and Sam said, "The dog that bit you wasn't a dog it was a skinwalker."
Dani paled, "I-I'm a skinwalker now aren't I?"
Sam nodded and Dani turned on her heel and walked into her room.
Her thoughts were running wild, What if the baby is a skinwalker? What if I just screwed us over?
She closed the door and started to get angry with herself.
Suddenly she heard bones snapping and she shrank. She tried to cry out in pain but it came out as a yelp.
She ran into her bathroom and was met with a light gray wolf with gray wings behind it.
Dani stared at her reflection in shock.
She ran back into her room and tried to open the door for a few moments before finally succeeding.
She ran into the room and ran straight into Kevin, knocking him over.
Dani was on top of him, she jumped back and he yelled, "Sam! Dean!"
They ran in and saw Dani, her wings poised high as she shrank into the corner. She was terrified.
Sam stared for a moment before walking a few feet from her and crouched. "Dani, hey, it's okay."
Dean helped Kevin up before whispering something in his ear.
Dani shrank farther back into the corner.
Suddenly Cas appeared in front Dean and claimed, "You called?"
Dean grabbed his shoulders and forced him to turn around.
Sam stood back up, moving back over to Dean.
Cas furrowed his eyebrows, looking between Dean and Dani. "A skinwalker?"
Dean shook his head, "No, that's Dani," he informed.
Cas turned back to Dani, a look of understanding on his face. He extended his hand, "We won't hurt you Dani. We never have and we never will," he promised.
Dani relaxed a little and whined. She had no idea how to turn back. Dani looked at his hand and slowly rose to her full height.
Her shoulders rose well past Cas' shoulders, "I can't change her back, there isn't a cure for this," Cas said.
Dani looked down at him with pleading eyes.
Cas looked up at her, his eyes full of pity.
She tucked her wings close against her body.
Dean spoke up, "Aren't skinwalkers supposed to be like normal dogs? Why is she so much bigger than a dog?"
Cas corrected, "She is a wolf Dean. Although, I'm not exactly sure. Wolves are supposed to be around four feet shorter than her and her shoulder width is supposed to be about this," he put his hands around a foot apart from each other.
Dani rose her nose in the air and prayed to Cas, 'Can I go outside? I want to go outside,'.
"Uhm, go ahead?" Cas sounded confused.
Dani trotted to the staircase, skipping about three stairs with each stride.
She scurried to the door, opening it with her jaws, and ran off into the night. Far away from the bunker.
