Me and my friends always go to the hangout. We always know who's there. We lived in Detroit, one of the shabbiest town in the U.S. My friends thought I was the smartest of us all, but I'd like to call myself just a little ambitious.

We were just normal teens roaming around after school. Burning up the road on the weekends and avoiding theguys that only wanted to get into our panties. There was one guy Ive always kept my eyes on. My friends said that I could never have him because he was a true gangsta, loyal to his crew.

My names Akene. My mom was always weird on names. I looked over at King, who was the apple of my eye since middle school. His real name was Michael but his nickname that everybody called him fit him well.

He was hanging out by his car with his other two friends Fly and Speedy. It was clear that my friends Valencia and Serena were attracted to them both. It was the start of summer and the love meter was through the roof.

King was so popular in school and was incredibly smart. He didnt like when the teachers told him what to do but he always did his homework. I was a bookworm myself and rarely got noticed. Mother said I was pretty, then why didnt King ever approach me?

"He is finer than the stars." Valencia said looking at Fly

"Speedy is finer than a bag of diamonds." Serena said gawking at him.

"You guys are a trip. They never notice us. They walk by as if we're part of a wall." I said rolling my eyes.

"Girl you talk that shit but I know you want a piece of King." V said smiling at me

"V, as much as I want him I cant have him. Besides he already has Kiki." I said sadly. Kiki was a straight up bitch and a nasty hoe. It was a no brainer that King was not a virgin and he'd been in her panties all the time.

"Kiki is a hoe! He needs a real girlfriend that'll stay out of other guys M.O and has some class." she said back.

"She's right here King. Just open your eyes and see it." I said sadly.

"Look! We are going to have a great summer and not worry about these guys. If they dont notice us they dont notice us!" Serena said

"Ok deal. Let's make a promise." V said

"What?" I asked

"This summer we are going to be boy drama free. We're going to have fun. Just us sisters." she said hugging me and Serena.

"You actually believe we can last a whole summer without getting involved in some bullshit?" Serena asked

"Positive with a plus. Now promise."

Serena and I smiled at each other. "We promise."

V let us go and we were quiet for a moment. "Just one more peek?" V said quickly

"Definately." I said stealing another glance at King. We all sighed. What summer this might turn out to be.

We all left the hangout and went to Gigi's Ice Cream Shop. We all sat down and we ordered our usual.

"Who's payin this time?" Serena asked

"Nay paid last time so Ill pay this time." she said pulling out her wallet. Just then Frankie popped in and walked over to us.

"What's up?" we said to him

"Nothing much. There's going to be a blockout tonight. Wanna come?" he asked

A blockout was simply a whole block that the teenagers block off and there's dancing, drinking, weed and other activities that should be worthy of us getting locked up over. It was always a crazy time and my mother did not like me involved in "illegal activities."

"How am I going to get there?" I asked

"Your car Nay! Your daddy bought you that nice ass mustang and you cant take us to the blockout?" V asked

"But you know my mom..."

"Summer summer summer! Who cares about following the rules? Its freakin summer and we are going to have some damn fun!" she said stuffing another spoonful of Sinful Delight in her mouth.

"Come on Nay its not gonna be fun if you're not there." Serena said puppy faced

"King's going to be there." Frankie said knowing he just got me hooked. "Alright alright! Ill go!" I said defeated.

"She's only goin because King is!" V said loudly. We all laughed and Gigi came out. "You kids....I love you but what is all this commotion about?" she asked with her hand on her hips.

"Ummmm.....we got a taste of Sinful Delight?" Serena said innocently. Gigi laughed and smacked us all with her towel.

"Oh here's the money for the ice cream." V said handing her the money.

"Keep it girl. Its on the house." Gigi said smiling. "Thanks Ms.Gigi!" we all said as we left the store. "You kids be careful out there!" she called

We were on our way to V's house to get ready. She put me in this tight red party dress that revealed my long legs and curled my long brown hair.

"Girl your caremel skin looks good with this red! Maybe King will get some of this tonight!" she said finishing up with her and Serena.

"We all look hot!" Serena said bending over in the mirror. "What a hoe." V said shaking her head. We both laughed.

"TO THE BLOCKOUT!" V said boldly. We all smiled and headed out the door.
