With a huge round of applause, we welcome Miss Daisy!
♤ Let's start with your journey towards Wattpad. How long have you been on Wattpad and tell us about your journey towards writing.
Although I only joined Wattpad last year, I've been writing for over ten years, but stayed mostly in the domains of poetry and short stories. They were published in local magazines and I got the encouragement I needed to write my first full-length novel when I was twenty (four years ago), although it stayed in my bookshelf and still rests there. And more joined them along the years. Wattpad was the first time I actually interacted with people through my writing, and the support I have reviewed still blows my mind. I've always loved writing, but Wattpad is the first place where writing feels like living.
♤ Truly said. What inspires you to write?
I get my inspiration from life and the people around me. My stories are based on true events, sometimes my own, sometimes of the people I work with. Being a psychologist, I meet people from all walks of life. Their life experiences teach me so much and I want the world to hear their stories.
♤ Tell us a bit about yourself as a person. Your hobbies, your likings.
I don't know what to say about myself, except that I'm a very simple person. I don't claim to be anything special or unique. I've led a hard life full of abuse and violence, have survived two suicide attempt and don't plan on trying a thirds time, work as a psychologist with youth and love my work, even though it's freaking hard sometimes. I love people, but love being alone even more. My guilty pleasures include music, reading, and writing when I should either be studying or sleeping.
♤ Do you have a favorite quote? If yes, please share it with us and tell us why it became your favourite! ;)
I don't think I can pick one favorite, since I'm a huge quote-lover. If I see a quote, I love it. It just has to be meaningful.
♤ I believe you love to read as well! What is the first book that ever made you cry? What was the thing that touched your heart?
The first book that ever made me cry was 'A Thousand Splended Suns' by Khaled Hosseini. I still can't wrap my mind around the fact that so much has happened in the world. The catastrophes of war at an individual level and the loss experienced by one human soul is bigger than any victory the war can land. The book is still one of my favorites, and perhaps always will be.
♤ If you had to do something differently as a child or teenager to become a better writer as an adult, what would you do?
I wouldn't do things differently. I know it sounds condescending, but I am who I am because of the life I lived. If I did something differently, I wouldn't be the way I am, and who knows what I would have ended up as. I don't believe in regrets, so -- even if I'm not happy with the life I've led -- I'm perfectly content.
♤ Have you read anything that made you think differently about fiction?
Occasionally I do come across stories that portray something in such a negative light that I begin to wonder why we write what I write. Personally, I think when a person writes, they put a part of themselves on the paper. If someone talks about hate, they're representing themselves, and vice versa.
♤ What was your hardest scene to write in your book "Cracked by Him."?
Sex. I know it might sound strange, but this is the only story which has graphic sex, not because it's smut, but because each act is critical to the plot. Cracked by Him is the only story of mine that I wrote sex-scenes for and man was it hard. Also, I wouldn't say, Cracked by Him necessarily, but since the book is first in a series, I would say that the hardest part for me to write was the ending. It's not because the ending was technical, but because it was very emotionally arousing for myself, and I wanted to make it a satisfying ending without making it a traditional happy ending. All three books of the series end with hard, a action-packed scenes but the true end was probably the hardest thing I ever wrote.
♤ What makes this particular genre you are involved in so special?
The most significant part of my life was my teenage. I went through a lot and my life was a constant struggle. I know how sensitive that age is for me, and I want to be able to connect with other teens out there through my writing. Love can be dangerous. It's not always rainbows and roses. But how you pass through it and survive, is what I hope to impart.
♤ Do you set a plot or prefer going wherever an idea takes you?
Since my stories are based on true events, I usually have a direction in mind. There are also scenes and dialogues that remain true-to-point in my stories. But of course, I let my mind run wild when I write. Writing is exploring. You can't explore when you're stuck in a box.
♤ What, according to you, is the hardest thing about writing?
I would say that the hardest thing about writing is writing itself. The ability to bare your heart and soul and sit down to share a part of yourself with the world. As Ernest Hemingway put it: there is nothing to writing. You just sit at a typewriter and bleed.
♤ Do you read much and if so who are your favorite authors?
I do read a lot, both on and off Wattpad. Off Wattpad, I absolutely adore Khaled Hosseini's writing, as well as George Orwell and Oscar Wilde. I'm more if a classics' person, so I stay with these and not contemporary novelists. On Wattpad, I read mostly undiscovered stories and occasionally find a diamond in the rough. My favorite famous author, though, is ClaudiaIsHere. Her story was the first I read on Wattpad so I'll always look up to her, even though I'm sure she doesn't even know I exist.
♤ Have any new writers grasped your interest recently?
I have quite a few favorites with new authors. As I said, I like reading underrated stories more, because they are raw and passionate.
♤ How do you see writing? As a hobby or a passion?
Writing is me. It's a passion, it's my life, it's me as I am.
♤ Which character created by you, do you consider as your masterpiece?
I don't think I create characters. My characters are inspired by real people so I wouldn't want to take credit for that. How I depict characters, though, I would say Hayden, from Cracked by Him is someone I'm very proud of portraying the way I did.
♤ What were you like at school? Were you good at English?
I was always a high achiever in school. I'm a gold medalist, skipped a grade because my scores were too high, and have multiple rolls of honor. I'm also a twice distinction holder from Cambridge, so I guess that suggests I'm not all bad at English.
♤ Which famous person, living or dead would you like to meet and why?
I would rather meet ordinary people than famous ones. That might seem unexpected, but I'd rather sit with a beggar on the street than with any president to date.
♤ What is your favorite coffee shop, meal, dessert?
Coffee is my life. I drink all kinds or forms of it, but my personal favorite is caramal latte. I also love French cuisine and Indian rice.
♤ What’s your favorite outdoors activity?
I'm an indoor person, but I'd love to explore alone. Whether it's hiking of bungee-jumping or sky-diving, I love it.
♤ Do you love music, what kind, what’s your favorite band/singer?
My taste in music has been described as all over the place. I like rap, rock, indie, basically whatever suits my mood. My all time favorites are too many to list here so I'll save you all the trouble of that.
♤ Being on Wattpad I usually assume that everybody loves reading and writing. Does writing energize or exhaust you?
Writing, for me, is breathing. No matter how tired I am after a day's work, I need to write something or I can't sleep even if I get into bed at 4 a.m. I need to write.
♤ If you could share one writing tip that’s at the top of your list with us, what would it be?
I'd say keep writing and write what you love. I have seen some authors suggesting following popular cliches and writing popular genres. I, however, suggest writing what you want. Do take suggestions and feedback about how to write, but never what to write.
♤ I was curious and I believe many of your readers will be as well. Where does your name ScarlettBlackDaisy came from? Like how you thought of it. Is it just random?
Oh, that's a question I get a lot. It's actually something that came to life along the years. I've been told I blush a lot, which gave rise to the Scarlett bit. My favorite color is black, and my mom named me Daisy when I was born. When put together, it has a nice ring to it -- at least that's what I think -- and it became my perfect writer name. hugging
Anna: That's so cool! ^^
Daisy: Thanks!
♤ You are an Ambassador on Wattpad as well and heart of our community. Tell us how far your experience has been on Wattpad?
Being an Ambassador is the best part of my Wattpad experience. I love every minute of it, being able to interact with readers with diverse backgrounds and read stories I might never have read otherwise. Being an Ambassador was my dream when I joined Wattpad, and now that I'm a part of this amazing community of writers and readers, I can never imagine my life without it. As far as Wattpad in general is concerned, it's my alternate life. Clinical psychologist by day, Wattpad writer by night... It defines who I am.
Anna: Thank you so much for the amazing interview!
