Chapter Seventeen
3pov
(This is probably my favorite part, and the one I worked the hardest on ahahaha)

John Laurens had went in for one more kiss before Alexander remembered the lips slipping away from his. He felt the hard, merciless--but relieving-- slap of reality as he darted up in his bed.
He looked over to the other side of the room, then to the floor, then back up to the bed again. He let out a shallow scream, covering his face with his hands. His body was wracked with sobs, causing himself to shake, while the hot tears slipped down his cheeks turning into fat drops that sat for a moment on his chin before finally falling onto the soft bed sheets.
He closed his eyes as tight as possible willing himself for the tears to stop.
He didn't want to look up, for him to be there then to disappear like he always did.
Not this time.
His bedroom door was thrown open as the feet of both Hercules and Lafayette rushed in anticipating the worst.
Instead, they found Alex having a mental break down, and John sitting up in bed scared and confused.
"Jesus, Alex." Herc whispered, letting go of the door handle, taking only two long steps towards the bed.
He didn't hesitate before wrapping him in an awkward hug. Laff walked over too, whispering something that Alex couldn't hear.
"Mon ami," Were the only words he could understand because turns out that Laff was speaking rapid french, even though Alex couldn't understand a word that he was saying. It was comforting though because he knew that he cared. That Herc cared.
Herc normally wasn't like this. Sure, he loved all of them, but he wasn't the best at comforting people.
Alex embraced the hug too, holding onto the two of them like it was his one and only lifeline.
John still was sitting in his bed in absolute awe, holding a fistful of sheets in his hands.
What the hell? Was the only clear thought he had in his mind, other than the millions of questions he had.
He slowly removed the sheets off of himself, stepping lightly on the ground. It was cold. Too cold. But that was the least of his problems at the moment.
"Alex?" He whispered, trying to keep his voice from breaking.
Herc and Laff released him from the hug, knowing all about John's crush. Of course, he would want to see him, make him feel better. Plus, out of the three of them, John was going to be the best at that.
Before John even knew what was happening he was wrapped in a suffocating hug, tears making his gray t-shirt damp. He stood in the middle of their room, feet on their soft carpet. His body fell back a bit at the contact. He didn't have time to react to the hug before Alex spoke.
"Y-you... you were... John!" Alex sobbed between each and every one of these words, his voice muffled by John's shoulder.
He nuzzled his nose into the side of John's neck, holding him even tighter, if possible. John didn't hesitate to hug him back, even though he was even more confused. He furrowed his eyebrows, closing his eyes, giving Alex the comfort he needed at that moment.
Did... did I do something? He thought while he heard Laff and Herc exiting the room, closing the door behind him. Their footsteps grew further away till there was nothing left to be heard but Alex's cries.
"W-what did I do?" John asked, biting his lip afterward fearing he did something he doesn't remember. He let his grip loosen a bit on Alex, trying to figure out what he could have done in the past 24 hours. They were fine before they went to sleep!
"You died! That's what you did! You went and died on me! You left me too! Every single time!" Alex's muffed words soon turned into strained cries. He pulled back from John's embrace, looking him right in the eye.
"I-" John was rendered speechless. "I'm... sorry?"
Alex slapped him before pulling him closer, by his shirt, till their noses were touching and lips were locked. He let the touch linger for a moment,
"Damn right," Alex retorted.
He pulled John in for a hug, before he felt his face burning a bright red.
"John... I- uh," Alex stumbled over his word, trying to find something, anything, to say.
John scoffed. "That all you got?"
Alex's eyes widened as John pressed his lips gently, but meaningfully back against Alex's.
They stood there for a moment. John's hand holding Alex's wrist, Alex pressed up against John. Neither of them dared breathe.
"I think I love you," Alex breathed, lips moving against John's.
"I think I love you too,"

And they did. They truly did love each other. In the next years to come they would get married, and adopt a little girl named Annalise, and two dogs.
Hercules and Lafayette ended up marrying too, adopting a younger son named Jacob.
They lived close to each other, and remained close friends.
As for Annalise and Jacob seemed to be inseparable too.
They ended up happy, the one stupid nightmare lost from Alex's mind. But of definitely wasn't the last.
Sorry that this took so long, and this story probably doesn't make a ton of sense, I might also decided to rewrite it sometime in the future, we'll see. Anyways, thank you guys for staying with this story, if you've gotten this far. It means quite a bit to me, love you all!
