Under and Over

Chuma grunted as his bottom hit the solid ground he groaned aloud hitting the ground a little too hard. "Chuma, what are you doing here and when did you come in?" The familiar voice of King Enma rang through Chuma's ears as Chuma whipped his head to face Enma. "King Enma?" Chuma spoke in shock as he looked around, sure enough, Chuma was sitting in the middle of the throne room. "Kur teleported me to Makai," Chuma breathed out, standing quickly he looked around, "shoot, Kur is hurt and facing that Naga alone." Panic started to form in Chuma's voice. "Wait, you were attacked?" Emma asked as Chuma turned to him once more, "where is Kur surely he would've been right behind you unless... Oh no." Both of them fell silent as they pieced together what had happened just by context alone. The sudden thump made them turn their heads to see Velacera standing right there holding his hands in the air as a book lay on the ground in front of him.

"Vela-" was all that Chuma could get out before Velacera crossed the room in fast haste and gripped onto the upper arms as the reflection of the glasses was nearly gone and Chuma could see the fear-stricken eyes of his friend. "What do you mean by you and Kur were attacked?! Where is Kur? Wasn't he suppose to be in the library after the morning lessons with King Enma!" Velacera's voice trembled as the corner of his eyes began to tear up and his breathing hitched, "why was Kur out of Makai? What's going on?!" Velacera bent his head forward a shadow covering his face only showing the clear lenses of his glasses as Chuma could only see his reflection now. Chuma could hear the hitching and hics in Velacera's words and his breaths. "N-no that doesn't seem even possible, " Velacera 's voice trembled as he looked up tears falling down his face beneath his glasses, "Kur promised we would visit you together how could he be in Conjinham when it wasn't safe..... It's all my fault... I wasn't there.."

"Calm down Velacera," Enma's voice tone changed to one of concern and worry, "Kur volunteered to investigate the claims and I gave him the clear to do so. If anything it was my misjudgment of what was in store for the investigation. I didn't think of the latter Chuma do you know the cause of the situation now?" Chuma sighed as Velacera's grip faded off of his trench coat, "we deduced that the creatures known as Zmora and a Naga behind the reason why all of that exorcist, priests, and monks hanging around Conjinham. Unfortunately, it seems like I was a target that the Zmora and the Naga were after as they were specifically using lich-hunting techniques. I am unsure about Kur but seeing how much the technique affected him when getting hit with it. I assume they are also using forbidden arts that can harm any creature or being. But I couldn't react fast enough as Kur had already thought about my life on the line and sent me here to be safe. Velacera if anything the whole situation is also my fault. I was a step away from Kur when it happened."

"Enough of the blame game," Enma said softly rubbing his forehead, "Kur knew immediately what he was getting himself into when he volunteered to go in my steed and he wanted the responsibilities so I granted him them. He is stronger than what credits you give him. I know I've seen him at his weakest and his strongest but I have no doubts in my mind that he is waiting for both of you to come. The Naga sounds like the leader in all of it... The best solution is to exterminate the Naga and then go from there. Seeing how this is going I may have to ask a family member of mine to interfere until worse comes to shove."

Velacera's sniffles became just about the only sound in the room for a solid moment as there were the sounds of footsteps walking into the throne room. "Kur did teleport Chuma right to the center of Makai," Futsura spoke as the three turned to the entrance to see Futsura and Orcus standing there. "O-Orcus," Velacera choked out as he tried to hold back his oncoming sobs, "F-Futsura? What are you guys doing here?" Velacera's voice stuttered as the two came closer. "We saw what happened," Orcus's voice came out low and with a hint of sorrow, "right after Kur teleported Chuma away the Naga vigorously kept up their attacks against Kur but it seems like their motive is from some unknown master, and their clear orders to kill Chuma and/or capture Kur. We did overhear that their master will most likely scold them for injuring Kur. But Kur had sealed himself in his self-consciousness and right when Pommy came running up behind and Futsura began to point out where they were heading a beam of light showed. I will speculate that Kur's seal had to do something with that." After Orcus finished Velacera slumped to the ground and his sobs were even louder than before as he had just heard both of his friends were in the path of danger and he failed to even protect any of them.

"Vel-" Orcus had turned to Velacera to see the state that he was in and frowned. Orcus knew some of the emotional turmoil Velacera was going through after all it was Velacera who found Kur injured nearly 5 years ago when he first came to Makai and has been there every step of the recovery and character-building Kur had and how fast Kur gave in to grief after coming back to Makai after whole months worth of traveling in the celestial terrain. Velacera was there to see every point of Kur's weaknesses and recoveries so this is overwhelming for him as he couldn't be there to help or even protect someone who has had each other's backs without any words of confirmation needed. "Velacera," Orcus took a step closer and squatted to Velacera's height on the floor, "we can save Kur. Pommy is keeping a close eye on their movements so so we can still catch up and save Kur. Please Velacera, wipe your tears." Orcus spoke softly as Velacera lifted his head and looked at Orcus.

Velacera took shaky breaths as he tried to calm himself down. A few hics in his breathing were all that was left as he slid his glasses off his and wiped the tears and stains on his cheeks away. "Y-You're right, O-Orcus," Velacera stuttered as he wiped his right cheek, "we can catch up to them and save Kur." Velacera stood up and gripped the cloth he used to wipe his cheeks as he placed his glasses back on. "Judging by what you saw was the form of repelling magic," Enma started as he stood, "it's simple but draining if you don't know how to use or control it. If one is successful you can use it as a pace marker and have it repel at certain distances or time intervals. Kur would've had to think of a way to make them take longer periods to travel. It could be a mixture of both distance and time intervals, a clever method too." Enma walked down the few steps and closer to the other four, "however, seeing that they have the force of harming Kur to an extent of capturing him it would be wise to stay clear or find some way to disengage them or weaken them... I'd rather not send either of you as you two would be vulnerable to these attacks," Enma sighed with concern, "maybe it would be best to see if any of my family can help considering this Naga is targeting anyone at this point that may be involved with those Zmora's."

"Your family, King Enma?" Chuma questioned as he turned away from facing Velacera, "I may be a target in all of this and Velacera is vulnerable to the purification magic but to involve the eldritch gods in all of this especially the great old ones wouldn't it endanger the mortal plain?" Enma shook his head. Enma walked past Chuma and Velacera looking towards the entrance, "not entirely if they keep their true forms hidden and remain in their mortal disguises there won't be much of a threat to the mortal plain but they will be limited to what they can do but it would be enough to at least help with the issue and mission at hand. Kur was practicing advanced magic with me but still, most of the advanced magic we were practicing would be handy, however, since his capture is the main goal for this Naga it would have to be..." Emma went silent as he crossed his arms and brought his right fist under his chin.

"Maybe my two nephews would be of assistance," Enma spoke again breaking the weighted silence, "Cthulhu and Tsathoggua would be best suited for this. You would have to make a slight detour or-" King Enma trailed off as he crossed his arms in thought. "Can we just teleport to Arkham or closer to there and then try and cut them off?" Chuma asked seeing how teleportation had managed to teleport him to King Enma's castle. "There is a way but the gate has to be opened on the inside of Arkham can do that form of teleportation magic. I would do it in an instant if I could but not many with authority or permission to be awake at this time as it isn't time for a family council meeting or gathering," Enma stated as he crossed his arms, "I could get you close to Arkham as next to it in the nearest village but you would still need to travel a bit and gain access into the gates. I am unsure who's in charge of the gates this year as I left before it was announced. I pray it's not a certain someone as they don't take too kindly and more or less want to have a duel with you guys."

"King Enma?" Velacera voiced lightly as the soreness could be heard in his throat from the crying earlier, "getting close to Arkham is fine with me and I can think of a way to get inside as I'm recognized as your creation and many will recognize that but I am uncertain about Chuma, Orcus, and Futsura being able to enter Arkham. But I can get in and speak with Tsathoggua and Cthulhu." Enma looked away for merely a second before turning back to look at Velacera, "very well I will send a message in case they try to deny your entrance. I would rather that you stay here in Makai where it is safe until everything is settled but it's unavoidable since you insist that you go and rescue Kur." Velacera sighed in relief and nodded his head. "But," Enma spoke again pausing everyone's movements, "the moment you are at risk of grave injury I want you to immediately teleport back here, and then decisions can be made from that point. Nothing reckless or immature out of the actions you take. Though I doubt anyone would do such a thing in your group."

"Thank you, King Enma," Velacera bowed, "I promise to keep that in mind besides I have Chuma and the others they know how to restrain me if I do act recklessly." Enma nodded his head in approval as they bowed and followed Enma outside and to a gate entrance. "This gate is a spare that I use to select a location I wish to go to so it should serve as the closest gateway to the Village near Arkham. Be mindful of the ones guarding the gates of Arkham, I am unsure which being took up the responsibility for the gatekeeper it could either be the Yithian or the Mi-Go, and both of them are very strict and loyal to orders. I would rather accompany you myself but seeing how I have to keep all gates closed until I am certain those with harmful purification magic are cleared away from Conjinham I have to stay here," Enma finished as he pulled a scroll out of the depths of the jacket wings and handed it to Velacera, "it's a recommendation letter to ease your entrance into Arkham, well an attempt at easing it but nothing concrete."

"Thank you, King Enma," Velacera gave a small smile, "well then let's head out." Enma gave a nod as he placed a hand on the post of the gate as the humming whirl of noises began and the portal came to life. The whirling of the portal was the only sound besides the silent fall of the atmosphere of Makai. "It's ready just be careful everyone and don't gather any unwanted attention as I cannot reach you from outside Makai's protection," Enma sighed heavily as he lifted his hand off the hardwood of the post, "and say hello to my family for me," Velacera nodded his head as he took the few steps into the portal and vanished into the glowing light of the portal. "Do not fret King Enma," Chuma said as he latched his mask onto his face, "Pommy, Orcus, Futsura, and I will keep him safe."

"I am not just worried about Velacera," Enma spoke softly, "if what you said was true about the lich-hunting techniques then they're just as harmful to hellspawns as well as another horror abomination creature as the next, lich-hunting is way in advance compared than purification magic. If it was able to injure Kur by scaring his skin then surely it could do worse when used on Liches and other species below liches." Chuma sighed as he started to see Enma's worries. "I see I understand," Chuma tugged on his overcoat, "it should be not so difficult to the point of not being able to rescue Kur and get out of there and regroup to think of something else. I was with him, the Naga's target was me. I want to write about what I failed in doing. I want to correct to keep my morals in balance."

"I understand," Enma nodded his head, "just make sure all of you keep a level head and don't get ahead of yourselves. Those are quite some dangerous enemies that are out there if they were willing to cause taboo in the category of supernatural forces." Chuma nodded his head as he heard the light call from Orcus and Velacera and soon followed into the portal. Enma stood there for just a few more minutes as he sighed. "If this becomes even bigger I fear not even my family can help in this trouble. The Great Old ones or the outer gods. Kur I do hope you are not seriously injured to the point where you can't fight. Good luck to all of you." The portal dimmed as Enma walked away and the whirling ceased.
