Chapter 35: "I'm just about done with you."
No One's Point of View:
Staring back at the brunette lying on her stomach with her hair splayed out around her in a heaped mess as she slept peacefully, Justin felt the aching in his chest grow.
The haunting words of the promise he had made lingered in the air suffocating Justin of every breath he had, his thoughts consuming him entirely.
With nothing adorning his torso, Justin scratched at his bare chest as he stood from the bed, cursing as it squeaked before walking out of the confines of his bedroom and down the stairs that led to the now vacant living room.
Shuffling his way through to the patio doors leading outside from the kitchen, Justin stepped out into the fresh air, letting the cold in as it stung his lungs.
Grabbing onto the railing, Justin leaned into his hands as he stared out ahead, inhaling and exhaling deeply, trying to find something, anything to capture his attention from the thoughts that could very much end him if he'd let them to.
Justin had promised one thing—to keep her safe and now he was beginning to believe he couldn't even do that anymore.
Grasping his head into his hands, Justin wiped the frustration out of his face as he vigorously tugged at the ends of his hair, staring up into the world wondering where in the world it all went wrong.
"I didn't expect to find you out here," Justin didn't even bother to turn around as he excessively rubbed his neck.
"Yeah, well, I didn't expect to choose between my girl and mom either but I guess weird shit happens every day." Justin absentmindedly bit back in a snarl as he narrowed his eyes at the dark sky, cursing the day he ever let himself feel for another person.
Maybe if he would have just given up a long time ago, none of this would've happened.
Maybe.
"I know you're mad at the world right now but taking it out on me won't change what happened." Bruce stood a foot away from Justin, hands stuffed into the pockets of his jeans. Dark circles were evident under his eyes as he tiredly fought the need to crawl back to bed and sleep for all eternity.
"Oh God," Justin growled under his breath, "This feels like déjà vu."
Bruce chuckled. "I wonder why."
Justin shot him a glare before relaxing, his shoulders slumping. "I just don't know what to do anymore. Every time I think things are turning out good, something comes to bite me in the ass to remind me that nothing will ever change—our life is permanently a nightmare."
"At this point, nothing I say or do will make a difference anymore because you're right." Bruce admitted with a shrug of his shoulders, "But we can't act surprised when something like this happens because we knew this was our fate the moment we gave in. We gave up our lives—we gave up normalcy—the moment we determined our fate."
"I don't want this for her." Justin whispered, "This is my call, my decisions... she shouldn't be punished for the mistakes I've made."
"You're not the only one who's made mistakes Justin. I've had my fair share of fuck-ups. We're not perfect. We grow and learn from it and move on. The more you waste time thinking about how things could be different; you're letting your life pass you by."
"What life?" Justin laughed bitterly as he gestured all around him with open arms, "Huh? You call this a life? This is a death wish. We're basically asking God to kill us in the process of giving the ones we love over to the devil."
"We can't stop living our lives because we're afraid of what's going to happen. Regardless if we were in a gang or not, there's always a chance that the moment somebody walks outside that they could be hit by a car or shot at. We can't choose how our lives turn up but we can fucking try to make something out of it. I'm tired of sitting around waiting for this shit to end. It's never going to end and it's about time you accept it."
"I gave up caring what happens a long ass time ago. I could fucking die tomorrow for all I care but I won't sit back and watch Kelsey suffer because of the choices I made."
"I don't think you realize just the kind of girl you've been blessed with, Bieber." Bruce shook his head, scoffing slightly to himself. Clicking his tongue to the roof of his mouth, he turned to look at Justin. "I tried to talk her out of going back to you after you got arrested."
Justin's eyes darkened momentarily as Bruce held his hands up in mock surrender.
"It's not because of anything specific but because I knew that with you being in jail it would just complicate a lot of things in her life. These kinds of things always happen around us, the ones we love get taken in exchange for our suffering. We're used to it... she wasn't. Not in the way that we are at least." Swallowing, Bruce licked his lips. "I gave her this big lecture about how dangerous you are and how fucked up this lifestyle is and you know what she said to me?"
Pressing his lips together, Justin held his breath as he stared over at Bruce, inwardly waiting for him to continue.
"She said "I know what I'm doing Bruce"." A whisper of a smile ghosted his lips. "Kelsey accepted the risk because you're worth it to her." Shrugging helplessly, Bruce didn't stray from Justin's gaze. "Now the real question here is, is she worth it to you?"
"What kind of question is that?" Justin snapped, "Of course she's fucking worth it to me. She's my whole world."
"Then get yourself together and put your head in the game because I'm not about to sit back and watch as Lyndon moves in on our territory and takes over all that we worked hard for. This is all just a game to him, he wants power over us and now he knows just what it takes to tick us off—especially you. Kelsey's just the icing on the cake but your family—"
"My family's out of the picture for good." Justin intervened with nothing short of a stone face, all emotions he cared to possess before were gone. "They won't hurt again because of me."
"What are you talking about?"
"Don't worry about it." Justin sucked his teeth as he broke off, his gaze wandering. "All you need to know is that I won't be hearing from them ever again and I prefer it that way."
"You know, I never had a chance with mine. My mom left me when I was five and my dad neglected me when I was thirteen. I had no family left, you guys are my family but Justin you've got a mom that loves you, a dad that cares for you and a brother that adores you. Don't let that go because of some faulty mistake on our end."
"My mom nearly died because of me. I didn't exactly feel like having to visit her grave next to Jazzy's." Justin grimaced at the thought. "I couldn't protect them but I've got another chance with Kelsey and I'm not about to throw that away."
"Then don't." Bruce stated knowing fully well it's easier said than done but he himself has had enough of the tragedy that had followed the group for years. "You know I expected to come out here and have to convince you out of leaving her."
Justin merely licked his lips, pursing them to the side as he looked up into the sky, his heart strings pulling violently.
"You were going to weren't you?" Bruce voiced the unspoken words that loitered between the two quietly, frowning slightly at the realization.
"I was thinking about it..." Justin trailed off, feeling almost disappointed in himself. "But I convinced myself otherwise. That's what they want and I'm not giving in. Not this time. I nearly handed her away when Luke was in the picture and I'm not about to let Lyndon do the same." Hesitating, Justin took a step forward towards Bruce. "I want to make her forget." Justin murmured softly, all confidence of anger inside of him vanishing at the thought of his broken fiancé sleeping inside. "I want her to be happy... even if it's just for a day or two."
Looking towards Justin, an idea ignited inside of him. "Is that what you want?" Bruce asked, unsure.
"Yeah," Justin nodded confidently, "Yeah I do. She can't stay here after what happened... it won't do her any good."
"Then let's do it. I've got a place out in Barbados, a nice little lodge near the beach. Johnson's been running business down there for years, keeping the place clean. My uncle's been dying to hear about how I've been holding up here in Stratford, he can set up a plane to meet us at the station and we can leave the moment everyone wakes up."
Justin wavered, having to do a double take, not being able to believe his ears. "You want to leave everything behind?" His eyes slightly widened in surprise. If there's one thing Bruce was always on top of it was their job. "What about business?"
"I can handle it in Barbados." Bruce shrugged, "If anything happens, Prince will just call in and let me know. What could possibly go wrong? We'll be gone for two days. When we come back we'll handle things from there. I think it's time we've all had a break from this chaos."
Scratching the bottom of his chin, Justin gave the situation some thought before nodding once more. "Alright, let's do it. Let's get out of this hell hole but before we do," Justin's eyes blackened, his jaw setting into a firm lock. "We have a few things to take care of."
Spencer sat in the comfort of his black SUV as he drove with one hand on the steering wheel, the other tapping to a tune he whistled to, nothing but silence engulfing him as he came to a slow stop at the red light.
It had been a long night for him and he was beyond exhausted, desperate for a good night's sleep after all he had endured that night. He watched from afar as the warehouse containing both Kelsey and Bruce blew up, hoping that the two had not made it in order to see the look on Justin's face when he realized both his fiancé and friend were dead.
It struck him as appetizingly sweet to be able to bring down the notorious Danger, living up to his expectations to be top notch alongside Lyndon and his group of men. It gave him a sense of power as though he were at the top of the world and nothing could tear him down.
Little did he know... he was just about to take his last breath.
A thick wire wrapped around Spencer's neck as he ventured backwards, his back pinned to the leather seat as he struggled to breathe, his hands clawing at the strap, desperate for release but to his dismay, it only tightened.
"Listen to me and listen to me carefully," A voice whispered into his ear so menacingly that it brought a chill down Spencer's back. "You will drive exactly to where I indicate you to and I won't choke you to death. Got it?"
When Spencer didn't say anything, the wire dug into his skin nearly piercing through.
"Yes!" Spencer choked out as he gripped the steering wheel, waiting for further instructions as the man behind him chuckled darkly.
"Good boy." He shifted closer to the nervous male in front of him, "Now I want you to take the next left and keep driving down until you see Madison Avenue. When you do, I want you to turn right and then take another right until Parker Street. When you get there I want you to take a left and drive all the way down the street and park. Clear?"
Squeezing a yes through his clenched teeth, Spencer did as was instructed; parking the car at what he realized was now a dead end.
A car door opened and closed, perspiration forming at Spencer's hairline as he inwardly cursed his life, praying to God that this wasn't what he thought it was.
Cold air burst through the moment the car door next to him opened, revealing a very bold and angry looking Bruce. "Shit." Spencer spat as Bruce leaned forwards grabbing him by his shirt and hoisting him out of the car and into the beaten down shack that nobody cared to use anymore.
A dim light flickered on as Spencer was shoved into a chair against his will through his fit of trying to break free.
Once Bruce had him secured around with a rope, he wiped his hands clean taking a step back as another figure stepped forwards.
The second Spencer caught sight of Justin, all the blood in his veins froze, his face falling to a grimace knowing what was to come.
"Ah, not so superior now, are ya Spencer?" Justin mocked humorlessly, his eyes mirroring those of the devils as he cornered in on him, his head cocked to the side.
"What do you want?" Spencer questioned desperately, all the pride he had gone within seconds.
"Shut the fuck up" Justin roared his face red with rage. "I didn't ask you to fucking speak now did I?"
Opening his mouth to say something, Spencer thought better of it, instead, pressing his lips together knowing deep down inside that there was no saving him.
"That's what I thought." Smiling triumphantly to himself, Justin didn't hesitate before slamming his fist into Spencer's face sending it flying to the right without giving him time to recover as he sent another blow to his jaw. "Not so tough now, are you Spencer?" Justin growled through short breaths as he continued to inflict pain on him, his closed bloodied fist coming in contact with every inch of his face, leaving nothing untouched. "Hm?" Justin swung his arm at full force, jamming it to the side of Spencer's head.
"Thinking you could screw me over and take my girl?" Justin took the wire he had previously used and wrapped it around Spencer's throat once more, this time, pulling on it so hard that Spencer fell backwards with the chair, a howl of pain coming from his end as the wire dug through his skin. Justin kneeled down beside him. "Guess again." He hissed in his face before standing once more, circling around Spencer who groaned under him.
"You had her fooled and you know what? I'm done being patient with you bastards. I'm going to kill each and every one of you, one by one and you, Spencer, happen to be my first victim." Sending the tip of his shoe into Spencer's side, Justin watched with content as he screamed out for him to stop.
"What was that?" Justin held a hand up to his ear, "What did you say?"
Coughing up blood, Spencer fumbled to speak, Justin growing impatient as he kicked Spencer once more.
"Stop!" Spencer begged, "Please!"
Laughing in disgust, Justin crouched down once more, grabbing Spencer by the throat who hissed in a deep breath at the contact. "Did you stop when Kelsey asked you to? Did you help her when she needed your help? Did you even stop to realize what she was feeling when you kidnapped her?" Justin clenched his teeth together as images of what could've happened that night flashed through his head. "Did you?" He screamed, banging Spencer's head against the concrete floor.
Spencer groaned, his eyes hazing over as he fought against the darkness that threatened to take over.
"Was helping Lyndon really worth your life?" Justin tisked, a sick smirk twisting upon his lips, "Were you really stupid enough to believe I would let you walk away breathing after what you did to me? Think again." Justin's eyes blazed red, his fingers clawing into Spencer's throat as he brought his face inches from his. "You're going to see just why nobody in this town was dumb enough to fuck with me." Justin turned to Bruce. "Get this fucker on his feet and tie his hands up, I'm gonna teach him a lesson once and for all."
"Justin..." Bruce began once he saw where Justin was headed and what he was grabbing.
"Either you do it," Justin snapped, "Or I will. He's going to die either way so pick one Bruce." He growled from the corner of the room, his face set with a glare.
Bruce didn't say another word as he grabbed Spencer, unwrapping the rope from around his body as he hoisted him up into a standing position, grabbing his arms and holding them up as he tied his wrists together on the hook in the ceiling.
Walking over to the cabinet in the corner of the room, Bruce fished out a bottle of alcohol, knowing that Spencer was going to need it after what he was about to endure.
Lighting up the torch in his hand, Justin grinned in satisfaction before making his way over to Spencer whose eyes widened in fear, all little of confidence he had left gone.
"You know that saying 'say shit, get hit'?" Justin raised his eyebrows, "Well I'd like to call this 'you're a little liar, let's set you on fire'." Putting the incinerate on full blast, Justin stood back as Bruce gagged Spencer with alcohol who glad took it without a fight knowing fully well himself he needed to be numb to the core in order to take on what was about to occur.
Once he was done, Bruce ripped Spencer's shirt off, wrapping it around into a ball where he was about to stuff it in his mouth to bite down on when Justin shook his head. "Don't. I want to hear the fucker scream his fucking brains out."
Bruce didn't say anything as he took a few steps back, watching as Justin took the torch and lifted it to Spencer's chest, screams instantly bouncing off the walls, radiating throughout the entire shack filling their eardrums.
"I let you near my home," Justin spat through clenched teeth, watching as Spencer's flesh began to burn to the core, sweat building up all over his body at the heat penetrating his skin. "I let you near my girl," Justin watched Spencer thrash around, his head thrown back while he yelled at the top of his lungs; "I let you near my business." Trailing the torch up to his neck, Justin didn't flinch as he took in the sight of the crisping guy in front of him. "And now I'm just about done with you." Walking around him, the fire trailing across his middle to his back, Justin watched as Spencer slowly flew into unconsciousness, his head falling forwards.
Shutting the torch off, Justin untied Spencer's hands, taking a step back as he collapsed face first into the ground. Admiring his work, Justin looked up at Bruce who stared down at the charred guy on the floor, a look of knowing in his eyes.
"Let's get him out of here." Justin declared as he threw the torch off to the side, grabbing the bottle of alcohol on his way out as he pressed it to his lips, taking a swing of vodka, loving how it stung his throat all the way down.
After Bruce and Justin tucked Spencer safely in the trunk of his car, Justin got into the driver's seat, starting it up before driving off down the street.
Justin took all the necessary stops and turns until he reached their destination. Getting out of the car, Justin popped the trunk open and with the help of Bruce, they threw Spencer down onto the empty field. Taking out three spare tires out from the back where they had placed them, Justin took out a lighter, flicking it on before dropping it on top of the tires in which were hovering over Spencer's decayed body.
Flames lit the air as it engulfed the tires along with the body, sweltering Spencer to a crisp where absolutely nothing was left in its wake, the tires taking in the blazes as it lay motionless, the fire sitting there as though a bonfire was being produced.
"One down six more to go," Justin looked at Bruce, hitting his chest with the back of his hand as he nodded back towards the car. "Come on; let's get rid of the car. Prince should be waiting for us by Bay Street."
Nodding, Bruce observed from the car seat once he settled himself inside as the fire stayed put, the wind letting it sway in all directions. "Feel any better?"
"I will once they're all dead." Justin deadpanned as he pulled out and began driving over to where Prince was rightfully waiting for them.
With the car still running, Justin hung his head from the window once he rolled it down. "We good?"
"Yeah, you're good just make sure you're out of the car before it hits the harbor." Prince called out, his eyes in warning, letting Justin know he was serious.
"Nothing I haven't done before." Justin rolled the window up again as Bruce got out of the car, standing beside Prince as the both of them watched as Justin sped down at full speed, slamming the car door open while jumping out the same time the car fell off the edge, a splash indicating it had hit the water.
Standing on the side waiting until the car was out of sight, he wiped his palms against his jeans, feeling as though a slight weight had been lifted off his shoulders. "You got our message?"
"Loud and clear, don't worry; I've got things under wraps here in Stratford while you guys are away. I'll call if anything but nothing suspicious should be going on especially after what had happened tonight. Lyndon's not dumb enough to strike again so soon after his first victory."
Tightening his jaw, Justin looked away as Prince gave him a passing look. "Sorry but it's the truth. He had you good tonight which is why this," He pointed towards the water, "Is the first step in getting back at the bastard."
"Trust me; this will be the last of his worries once I'm done with him." Justin set his mouth in a firm grip.
Prince said no more as he led the way to his car where both Bruce and Justin took a seat in the back while he drove soundlessly to their house.
Stopping midway up the driveway, Prince put the car into park. "I'll see you guys around, eh? Try not to get into any trouble in Barbados."
"No promises." Justin chuckled while clapping hands with Prince, snapping his fingers away. "I'll see you around. Thanks for everything."
"No problem," Prince acknowledged Bruce in the same manner before sprinting off once Justin and Bruce disappeared out of sight and into their home.
Knowing they both smelt like blood, alcohol and the deceased, both men parted ways. Bruce going to his room where as Justin trailed up the stairs into his own, surprised to see Kelsey was still sounding asleep, a small frown adorning her face.
Biting his lip, Justin fought the urge to cuddle up beside her and take her into his arms as he entered the bathroom, quickly stripping of his clothes as he ran a hot shower.
Stepping inside, Justin let the water wash away the dirt on his body, his fingers digging into his scalp and skin, cleaning himself off.
Pressing his hands against the tiled walls, Justin leaned his head into the water as it pattered against his back, soothing him in the slightest way possible.
This small vacation they were about to take would be the start of getting their lives back together and Justin was more than willing, desperate to erase all the horrid memories Kelsey had imprisoned in her head.
Justin's life resembled a dark tunnel, no light shining through until you reached the end and at that end stood a small, petite female that turned his life upside down in all ways possible.
"I'm going to give you the happy ever after you deserve." He declared out loud as though speaking to her directly, "Even if I don't deserve it."
Once the water began to warm up to a more cooler feel, Justin turned it off before taking a deep breath and stretching his limbs as he stepped out of the steam filled shower feeling his muscles relax immensely as the cold air nipped at his skin. With water droplets running down his frame, Justin dried himself before wrapping a towel around his waist and walking out.
Picking a pair of sweats and a thick strapped white tank-top, Justin fitted his socks onto his feet before walking over to the bed where his fiancé lay.
Running his fingers across her cheek, Justin gripped her chin gently not to wake her as he thumbed across her bottom lip, taking his own under his teeth as he nibbled on the skin. "I'm going to save you from this nightmare baby." He murmured gently, "I promise..." Trailing off, a jab at his chest made him sigh. "And this time, I'm keeping that promise."
