25. Bulletproof Girl
Eventually, Wild Creature and Bulletproof Girl reach one of the larger rooms used for meetings. Wild Creature nods to the dor, salutes with a grin on his face, and walks off down the hallway. Bulletproof Girl smiles and opens the door, entering the meeting room.
A rounded table surrounded by chairs lies in the center of the room. Ammunition Flash sits in one chair, and he smiles at Bulletproof Girl as she enters the room and takes a seat next to him. There are two strangers to Ammunition's left. To Bulletproof Girl's right sits a man with bright red hair and a blue and white jacket, easily recognizable as Party Poison, one of the founders. The man sitting at Party Poison's side has stringy black hair and a black and yellow jacket, clearly Fun Ghoul. Party Poison gives Bulletproof Girl a friendly smile, surprising her, and she smiles back.
"Good, that's everybody," Ammunition Flash says. "You all can probably guess while we're here. The two legendary Killjoys seated near me need no introduction." Party Poison smiles again, and Fun Ghoul gives a small, shy wave.
"To my right sits one of our best Killjoys in combat and a good friend of mine, Bulletproof GIrl," Ammunition says, continuing his introductions. "To my left is our highly-skilled strategist, Mad Gear."
Mad Gear is a boy about Ammunition Flash's age, with short dark brown hair and dark eyes. He gives a small nod.
"And to his right sits Missile Kid, one of our most creative planners."
Missile Kid, a boy the same age as Mad Gear, has messy yellow hair, and a sleeve tattoo. He smiles.
Ammunition Flash smiles too, almost wearily, and rests his elbows on the table. "So. That's it. We're here, essentially, to discuss the plan for the extraction mission of the potential in Battery City that Party and Fun here wish to adopt."
Mad Gear leans forward in his chair. "What have you got so far?"
"Plan-wise? Basically nothing." Ammunition Flash picks up some assorted papers from the floor by his feet and puts them on the table. Unfolding one paper, he reveals a map of Battery City. He also unfolds another to show a smaller, hand-drawn map of a house.
"Here's a map of Battery City, and an approximate map of the potential's house." Ammunition Flash slides the maps over to Mad Gear, who begins studying them immediately, clearly in his element. Missile Kid leans over and rests his chin on Mad Gear's shoulder, also looking at the maps.
After a moment, Mad looks up from the maps and to Party Poison and Fun Ghoul. "You're both going on the mission?"
The two founders lock eyes with each other for a moment, then look back to Mad Gear, nodding.
"Alright." Mad Gear studies the map for a heartbeat longer before looking up again. "I think we'll need about seven or eight people for this mission, taking the security system into consideration. You'll want a lot of people with you in case things go all Costa Rica."
"Here, pass me the house map, Mad," Missile Kid says, and Mad Gear slides the map over to him. He studies it for a moment. "That's a tough security system, yeah, but I've worked with this kind before. I can probably crack it."
"Good." Ammunition Flash takes the maps from Missile and passes them over to Bulletproof Girl. "Any thoughts, Bulletproof?"
Bulletproof Girl looks at the maps. The map of Battery City is so familiar to her that she only glances at it to see the general location and neighborhood of the potential's home. The map of the potential's house, however, is different, and she studies it carefully.
"Missile's right, that is a tough security system. All of the doors are locked with a special kind of battery-operated lock which lets out a loud beeping noise if it's broken, or if the door is opened." Bulletproof looks at the map a second longer. "I do have experience with these kinds of locks, but they can be tricky."
"Is this mission doable?" Ammunition Flash asks seriously.
"Yes, but it's going to be tough," Bulletproof Girl says, sliding the maps over to Party Poison and Fun Ghoul so that they can take a look.
"Who's going?" Missile Kid questions.
"You and Bulletproof, since you have experience with the types of security we're dealing with. Fun and Party are also going, obviously." Ammunition nods to the founders.
"I'm going too," Mad Gear pipes up, volunteering himself.
Ammunition Flash gives him a look, but Mad Gear remains firm. "I'm not letting Missile go in there alone." Bulletproof Girl isn't sure, but she thinks she sees Mad Gear and Missile Kid holding hands under the table.
"Alright," Ammunition Flash says after a moment. "Fair enough. You can be the getaway driver. Who else?"
Silence surrounds the table for a moment before Bulletproof Girl speaks up.
"How about Johnny?"
