• toko x male!reader [library] •

note from your lovely author; ack i'm not the best with female characters, but i hope this is good! i wrote this for my friend who literately has hardly any idea what danganronpa is, but he's probably gonna end up getting into it lmao. i hope everyone enjoys!

warnings; the reader in this case is male, and i wrote this in the sense of not being in the killing game!! just a normal life au :)

it was the last day of school, and you were sitting in class about to doze off. the class was silent, and the only noise you could hear was the ticking of the clock. tick... tick... ti- RINGGGGGGG. at that moment almost every single chair in the room made that horrible scooting noise and was pushed back into the desk. the teacher was at her desk lazily saying things like "have a good summer." and "see you never."

you sighed, and when almost everyone left you decided to get up as well. you were always waiting at the end of class for your one friend to pack up everything she had, for some reason she would bring the most out of the world things, and today was no better. "okay (y/n)! i'm ready, let's go have an awesome summer!" your friend had her cyan plaid booksack on her back, being as jumpy as always.

you sighed, getting up and grabbing your booksack. "alrighty, come on (f/n)." you smiled just a bit, walked out of the classroom with your friend. when you walked out of the class, you swore you could hear people start talking about you. eyes were laid on your back, the small giggles from others reaching your ear. anxiety sucks. you and your friend continued to walk out of the school, smiling as the sun hit your skin. it was so warm.

"so (y/n), do you have any plans today? tomorrow? this week?? for the whole summer???" your friend asked, laching onto your arm like a lost puppy.

"no, not really... i might go to the library later on though. i've been looking for a new book series to read, or at least one big novel." you said, your eyes began eyeing the library that was hardly in view.

"oh my god..... you and your books." (f/n) complained, letting her arms go limp. "oh well then, have fun you dork." she smiled and then ran off leaving you unable to say anything. she did this weird run where her arms were behind her back and she was almost in a bowing position.

"okay then. she definitely didn't take her ADHD medicine this morning." you mumbled, smiling a bit. without another thought, you headed over to the library to look for a book to read. you never knew what you wanted, but usually you ended up finding a story you liked.

as you went on a stroll to the library, you swore you could feel a pair of eyes watch you as you walk. your skin was ice cold, but you shrugged it off. the library was empty today, only a few people were here to greet you. you turned in your current book and took a glance at the wide collection of books that people had written for people like you to enjoy.

you didn't know what you were going to get when you came here, but after 15 minutes or so of laying on the floor and stepping on step stools you found a book that caught your eyes. the spine had a lovely looking sunset color scheme, and the words 'so lingers the ocean' was written in cursive. you took the book out of the slot and glanced at the cover. the words 'so lingers the ocean' was larger, but on the bottom was about 5 or 6 award stickers. the author? toko fukawa. you sighed, and debated whether you really wanted to read one of her books. now, you didn't hate her, but damn did you think she was overrated.

you opened up to a page and began to read, walking over to the table that was put down for people who wanted to read or study. there was already a person there, reading a book. you could only imagine what she was reading, maybe it was a murder story about some monochrome bear? or some people who were were part god? or some cats that were living in the forest, split into clans? you decided to sit next to her, hoping not to seem a bit intrusive on her privacy. you put your book down and began to read as well. one by one the words passes, flowing off the page and into your mind. you sat there for about 20 minutes reading, and even though the story was a romance it was quite interesting.

you took a sip of the water you brought with you, until the girl next to you suddenly asked, "s-so, what are you r-reading?" you almost spit out your water. the break in silence was a bit shocking.

you gulped down you water and cleared your throat. "oh uh..." you turned over the book to show her the cover. "its called 'so lingers the ocean', written by toko fukawa. i've never been into romance novels, so i'm not that into it. honestly, no offense if your a fan of her, i find toko fukawa a bit overrated. the story is passable though."

the girl had a frown on her face, she didn't seem happy. "have you ever read any other of her books?"

"no, but i guess your saying that as a 'don't judge an author if you haven't read her books' type of thing right?" you mumbled, taking another sip of your drink.

"n-no! a-anyway, what part are you at right now?" the girl leaned in a bit, her braids touching your arm as she went to look what page you were at. "page 76, that's the part where the-"

"well hold on don't spoil it for me!" you laughed slightly, your face a bit red. were you... blushing?

the girl laughed a bit as well, adjusting her glasses and playing around with her braids. you ended up talking with the girl for a while, laughing and reading the book together. oddly, you and her ended up finishing the book with the girl. she asked if you wanted her to get another one, and she stood up with a lovely smile. she seemed different than when you first met her.

"awe i've been here for like... 2 hours! gimme a break...." you froze. "oh my god i didn't even get your name-"

she froze also, her giggling died down a bit. " i uh.... i d-don't know if i want to tell you."

"thats fine. i'll just tell you mine, i'm (y/n), (y/n) (l/n)." you smiled, grabbing the girls hand and holding it. "come on, were friends right?"

"y-yea but..." she yelped when you grabbed her hands and fell into your arms. you and her were now a blushing mess. "i uh... i'm well... i'm toko. toko fukawa. don't let that change our friend ship." she got off your chest and backed up.

"toko? the toko fukawa??"

"i told you to not let that change your relationship!!"

"i-it won't! i'm just surprised, i wouldn't expect some big shot like you to be here, especially without any paparazzi."

"i come here alot, the librarian hooks me up with a s-secret reading area when the p-place is full. it's just me and you now." toko mumbled, blushing. she was looking down and stuff, probably feeling a bit weird.

"oh, well that makes sense. i come here alot too, but i never see you." she was silent. you and her were silent for a while.

then you smiled, and offered a hand to her. "you know toko, i guess we can read one more book if you want. anyone, your choice."

toko looked up and smiled with a big, goofy grin. "okay! l-let me go grab one!" she rushed off to grab a book, and in less than 30 seconds came back with another cheesy romance novel. "come on, (y/n), lets read it!" she seemed more happier than when you met her, and that made you happy.

you ended up spending another hour or so reading with toko, talking about the characters, cliche plot twist, and laughing over whatever any of the characters did that was stupid. you felt closer to toko fukawa, but you were unaware of what else she had in store. she kept it hidden, but for now, you were just happy with toko leaning on your shoulder and holding your hand.
