Ch. 13: Spending Time with the Gamer
3rd Person POV
As (Y/N), Kazuichi, Sonia and Mikan proceed back to the classroom, (Y/N) couldn't help but keep thinking about what kind of punishment he was going to face from Chisa. After all, he did miss two of her classes.
"Man, this is gonna suck." (Y/N) groaned under his breath. But continued onward regardless.
After a few more steps, they all made it back to class 1-B. (Y/N) stood silently and stared at the door. He closed his eyes and took a deep inhale.
"You uh...doin' okay there bud?" Kazuichi asked in slight concern.
"Yeah just...bracing myself, that's all." He said as he took one more deep breath and exhaled loudly. He then smacked both of his cheeks to psych himself up. "Okay!" He said before he grabbed the sliding door handle and gently slid it open. Once he did, he was met by something big, warm, soft and squishy. But most of all blinding.
"Really..." He muffled before feeling arms wrapping around his head, completely engulfing him in the fluffy pillow in which some would view as paradise.
"(Y/N)! ARE YOU OKAY?! YOU'RE NOT HURT ARE YOU?! YOU WERE GONE FOR SO LONG! WHAT HAPPENED?!" The voice yelled multiple questions.
'Shit...can't breathe...not...again...' (Y/N) thought and he struggled to break free which showed through his shaking hand trying to rise up and grabbing the shoulders of whoever was trying to suffocate him with their large chest.
"Um...Pekoyama, you may want to let go of him now." Mahiru stated, feeling somewhat awkward watching all of this happening.
"Huh? Why would I do that?" Peko asked while giving a sharp glare to the red haired photographer.
"W-Well you're kind of, you know...suffocating him." She said bluntly while pointing at the dying (H/C) boy enveloped in Peko's bust.
"Oh!" Peko cried as she let her friend go, resulting in him breathing heavily, trying to catch his lost oxygen.
"S-Sorry, I-I was just worried about you. Are you okay? You were gone an offly long time." Peko stated, clearly showing concern.
"Y-Yeah I'm...I'm good. Just...need a minute or two." He stated still trying to catch his breath.
'And right after he woke up from being unconscious. Gotta say though, I'm kinda jealous of this lucky bastard.' Kazuichi thought jokingly.
After (Y/N) managed to breath normally again, he began to speak, but was cut off by someone new joining in on the conversation.
"Yo (Y/N) my dude, what was up with the long absence bro? You get sick or something along the way?" Ibuki asked.
"Yea...something like that." (Y/N) lied as he rubbed the back of his head and gave a fake smile.
"W-Wait, you're sick?! Why didn't you tell me?!" Mikan yelled, feeling more worried for her classmates health than before.
"Mikan..." Kazuichi whispered, catching her attention. When she saw the dumbfounded look on Kazuichi's face, she realized what (Y/N) was talking about and what he was doing.
"O-Oh, right." She said as she laughed lightly.
"Anyways, just a stomach bug. Nothing too serious, I'm all good now." (Y/N) said as he entered the classroom. He felt some odd stares on him but paid them no mind as he headed to his desk against the window.
"Well I'm glad it was nothing severe." Nekomaru stated. "Though you may want to tell teach once she gets back from looking for you." He added as he pointed to the door behind him.
"Wait, she left to find me?" (Y/N) asked confusingly.
"Why yes she did." Teruteru added, now joining in. "It was shortly after the three of you left." He said as he directed (Y/N)'s attention to the three who found him unconscious and came back with.
"Oh, in that case I should probably let her know I'm okay." He said as he pulled out his phone and began texting his sister. Once he sent the text saying he was okay and back in class, loud and fast footsteps were heard from outside the classroom. Soon enough, the front classroom door slid open loudly. Everyone looked at the reason why and it revealed to be Chisa.
"Where have you been?!" She yelled as she stomped over to her little brother's desk, which began to scare (Y/N) slightly.
"U-Um...the bathroom? Like I said?" He stated with a raised eyebrow and his hands up.
"For nearly three hours?!" She yelled again.
"Y-Yeah sorry about that, I would've told you earlier but I was kinda going through a bit of a stomach bug incident so I couldn't really do anything in the line of communication." (Y/N) lied, hoping that Chisa would believe it.
"Really...?" Chisa asked while giving an intense glare, which eventually caused (Y/N) start to cave.
"Yes, it is as Sir (Y/N) says Ms. Yukizome." Sonia stated in the (H/C) boy's defense. "When Mikan, Kazuichi and I found Sir (Y/N), he was hunched over men's bathroom stall toilet and, well...I do hope I do not have to explain anymore." The princess stated in hopes of not going into anymore detail of what she was fabricating.
Chisa simply looked surprised at everyone that left earlier to get her little brother, then back at (Y/N).
"Is that really the truth?" She asked once more.
"Yes...it is." (Y/N) said once more, now sounding more assertive than before.
The two adopted siblings simply stared at eachother, filling the classroom with an thick and awkward silence. Everyone watched patently for one of them to make a move of at the very least say something. After some shared moments of silence, Chisa rose up from (Y/N)'s height and started to walk away.
"Okay then." She stated happily as she strolls back to her teacher's podium to resume teaching. But as she left, (Y/N) slumped down into his desk, exhaling obnoxiously. He then turned to Sonia and silently spoke to her 'thank you', which she replied with a silent 'you're very welcome'.
"Okay then class, just one more period before lunch! We can do it!" She cheered, resulting in everyone walking back to their seats.
'Well...all I can do now is just wait it out and try to not have another heart stopping incident like Saturday I guess.' (Y/N) thought as Ms. Yukizome began teaching her lesson.
Time Skip
After the lesson was interrupted by the lunch bell ringing, Chisa stopped her lecture and let the students be free. Finally, lunch break came around and seeing how beautiful the day was outside, Ms. Yukizome decided to lead them all out to this spot that was in the outside section of the school that they could all hang out and interact with each other. It was surprisingly near the classroom and had chairs and small tables for people to enjoy eachother's company.
Certain classmates huddled in small groups in hopes of getting to know each other a little better. (Y/N) didn't have food with him, but was just about to join one of the groups anyway. But he was stopped when he heard a bunch of beeping noises behind him.
(Y/N) looked behind himself to see the girl with the tan colored cat hoodie, Chiaki Nanami. He noticed that she was sitting down with her back leaned against the wall of the building....alone. He decided to talk with her sense he hasn't actually interacted with her besides that time she woke him up from his little nightmare.
'Worst thing that could happen is that she'll let me know if she wants to be left alone.' He thought as he began to walk over to her. As he got closer and closer, she didn't seem to take any notice of the presence in front of her. "*Ahem*". (Y/N) tried gaining her attention, which seemed to work sense Chiaki snapped out of some sort of trance as she looked up at him. They looked each other in the eyes for a few seconds in awkward silence. Once they saw each other, he remembered how cute this girl was, which made him get all flustered and embarrassed. A bit of sweat dropped down (Y/N)'s face as the situation continued. However, feeling confident, he decided to break the silence. "Uh...H-Hey Nanami. I uh, couldn't help but notice you here alone. I was wondering if you would like some company?"
Chiaki stared at him for a bit, remaining completely silent. "Sure I don't mind." She said.
(Y/N) smiled a bit and took a seat next to her on the ground. As he sat next to her, he took notice of the handheld device that she was playing. He looked at it as though he had never seen anything like it. Upon closer inspection, it looked like she playing some sort of game. It looked somewhat familiar to him, but for whatever reason, he couldn't think of a reason as to why.
The game (Y/N) looked at the screen appeared to be some sort of old fashioned space shooter. He also noticed that the ship in the game looked identical to the clip in Chiaki's hair. "So... what are you playing?" Just as he asked that Chiaki paused her game and looked towards him.
"You don't recognize it? I thought you said you've played Gala Omega." She asked getting close to his face. (Y/N) backed up a slight bit in response to this.
"Wait, that's Gala Omega? It's looks so different from the old one." He stated sounding completely suppressed.
"It's the handheld version. Anyways, you said you and your friend New Game +'d it seven times. Don't tell me you were lying." Chiaki gave a small pout and puffed her cheeks out a slight bit. Needless to say, (Y/N) thought it looked quite cute.
"N-No I didn't lie. It was just along time ago though. Plus I...don't really play video games a whole lot." (Y/N) stated as she avoided the cute gaze of Chiaki.
"Oh, I guess I should be less surprised than." She said as she continued to play, which made the boy sigh with relief. "Like you said, it's an old classic so not many people our age know about it. Besides, you're the only other person who knows the game as well." (Y/N) looked down to the ground. "I guess you played the console version when it came out years ago huh?" She asked curiously.
He began to think, hoping to remember. "I think so, it was when I was a kid, so I can't remember all that well."
"Huh." Was all Chiaki responded with as she continued playing her game.
As the silence between them grew on and on, (Y/N) then had an idea pop into his head like a lightbulb turning on. "Hey, I might not've played it up until now, but if you don't mind...maybe I could give it a try to see what this version is all about?" Chiaki paused her game again and looked at him surprisingly.
"You really want to give it a try?" She asked.
"Yeah, looks fun." He said with nod.
Chiaki smiled and restarted the game. Before she handed the console towards him she began explaining the rules of the game as well as the controls. She then handed the controller towards him. (Y/N) picked it up and tried getting into the zone. "Alright I think I can do this." He stated with a confident smile.
"(Y/N)..." Chiaki said.
"Yes Nanami?" (Y/N) asked looking at her.
"You're holding the game upside down." (Y/N) looked at his hands to see that it was indeed true. He blushed a bit in response and quickly fixed his mistake.
"Heheh, my bad." (Y/N) said giving an embarrassed smile.
Chiaki laughed at this, but it wasn't a mean spirited or cruel laugh, it was a sincere and kind one. This happened to make him blush even more than before.
Throughout the entire lunch break, the two continued to play the game. (Y/N) would often lose rather quickly when playing. But in actuality, he didn't mind. Because he felt like every time he did die in the game, he would slowly improve from watching Chiaki play. With time, Chiaki also enjoyed sharing the game with (Y/N). She was happy to see someone who's never played games give it a try, and enjoy it to top it off.
While the two continued gaming, they failed to notice that certain girls in the class looked a tad bit jealous to see that Chiaki was getting close to (Y/N). The two were having so much fun playing together, that the break whizzed by far too quickly. When it was Chiaki's turn again, (Y/N) pulled up his sleeve and looked at his wristwatch to look at the time. Shockingly enough, It was almost time for class. "Hey Chiaki, we should probably head back to class." He stated, causing Chiaki's face sadden a slight bit upon heard this.
"Y-Yeah, I guess you're right." She said sounding rather upset.
Just as (Y/N) rose up from the ground, he felt a hand grab his. His looked down and saw that it was Chiaki, causing his face to blush once again.
"Hey (Y/N), do you think you and I could play games together from now on?" She asked, catching him completely by surprise.
"H-Huh?" Was all he could muster out.
"I don't mind sharing my Game Girl Advance with you." Chiaki stated with a small smile on her face.
(Y/N) smiled from hearing and seeing this, it was like he made his first official friend. "S-Sure! I'd love to! Sounds like a lot of fun!" He replied as he lifted her up off the ground.
Chiaki smiled in reaction to this. "Thanks (Y/N)".
And with that (Y/N), Chiaki and the rest of Class 77-B began to head back to their classroom, ready for more teachings by the TA's adopted older sister, Ms. Yukizome.
