Chapter 6: Class Trial - Part 2

"You're even worse than I thought..." Katashi muttered, glaring at the mastermind. "I can't believe it... your own twin...."

"Can't you at least tell us how it happened?" I asked Michio. "Like you said, it won't help us much anyways."

"Fine, I guess it wouldn't hurt." Michio said with a shrug. "Originally Mika was going to take Satchiko's place as an imposter while the real Satchiko did her job, but getting her to that point took a lot longer than I expected. It usually only takes a few hours, the engineer was even faster-"

"Engineer?" Mai interrupted. "D-do you mean... Orochi?"

Michio nodded. "Oh yeah, Jirou was getting close to figuring me out, and it was far too early for that. I had to get rid of him, and Orochi was easily manipulated. I'm glad Haru came in though, I wasn't expecting that! It sure made things more exciting."

"I always thought there was something off about that trial..." Jikkō said thoughtfully. "Orochi's motive was never really explained."

"Well, now you know." Michio stated. "Can I continue?"

Everyone slowly nodded.

"As I was saying," Michio started again, "Satchiko really was a tough one to crack. It took so long that Mika suddenly appearing would raise more questions than it was worth. Plus, she was always too clingy... I was sick of her, and I was getting bored, so why not have another class trial?"

"I guess you wouldn't hesitate to end any life." Jikkō scoffed. "If you're able to brutally eliminate your own sister like that... twins are as close as they come."

Michio just gave a small shrug. "Not really, I was never really close to her. I only used her this time because she was easily convinced. Now, can you all move on? You still have a lot to figure out."

Jikkō nodded, looking to the rest of us. "Alright, let's move onto the tragedy."

Willow was the first to speak. "I know it was started by the Tragedy of Hope's Peak Academy."

"What was the tragedy?" I asked, "I mean, what happened?"

"Hmm..." Mai thought for a moment. "Didn't that article say a bunch of student council members were killed in the school?"

Willow nodded. "And the school tried to cover it up... but the article stopped there, we don't know what happened next."

"Despair." Satchiko muttered. "World of despair. Too much."

I looked to Satchiko, knowing that she was trying to tell us something.

"Satchiko..." Katashi said, "you said something like that on the notes in your room too... what do you mean?"

"Despair... she caused the despair..." Satchiko said, looking at the floor.

"I'm assuming the world wasn't left in the best state." Jikkō stated, "Seeing as she's talking about a world of despair. That tragedy may have caused a chain reaction."

"But it can't be that bad, right?" Mai said with a nervous laugh. "I-I mean, maybe it ended in a war at most...."

Michio let out a light laugh. "A single war? Oh Mai, you know nothing."

"What do you mean?" I demanded, "It's worse than a war?"

The mastermind shook his head. "Don't get ahead of yourself, Kazuki. I'll explain later."

I groaned, but looked back to the others. "Anyways... there's still one thing we need to talk about."

"What's that?" Katashi asked.

"Junko Enoshima."
