Chapter 4: Investigation

No one made a huge fuss when Monokuma arrived this time to hand out the Monokuma Files. It feels terrible to admit, but by now, we were used to this.

Once I got the file, there was no time to waste. I knew we only got an hour or two to investigate, so I was right on it. I looked at the tablet in my hands, reading the information. He had died at around midnight, when everyone should've been in their rooms. It could be anyone at this point.

I looked to Riku's body, wincing at the fork in his eye. That was obviously the murder weapon. Of all things to choose, why would they use a fork? It looked like it was extremely painful.

I pushed that thought aside, instead searching the body for any other wounds. I found none, and there seemed to be no signs of a struggle. He probably didn't see it coming.

I looked up to see the only ones in the room now with me were Satchiko, Jikkō, and Michio. The others must have left to search elsewhere for clues.

I left the body be as I looked around the rest of the room. There was some blood splattered on the floor, but I just assumed that was from the wound. Being stabbed in the eye certainly wouldn't be clean. Besides that, I couldn't find much.

"Did you guys find any clues?" I asked the three other teenagers.

"Well, there's this." Michio said, holding up what appeared to be a small piece of ripped fabric. Upon closer inspection, I realized it was from jeans. "It was jammed in the door, it was probably ripped off of the killer, since Riku doesn't wear jeans."

"I also found this." Jikkō spoke up, holding up a few strands of blond hair. "We can't say for sure this is from the killer, but I don't think Riku had anyone else in his room. He didn't really have friends here."

I nodded. "Yeah... I guess that makes sense."

"Where else is there to look?" Satchiko asked, sounding slightly worried. "I mean, the crime scene is his room, and we don't know where he was last night."

"Let's just hope more information is revealed at the trial." Jikkō said, "We haven't failed yet."

As soon as she finished speaking, the monitors switched on. This was probably the shortest time we had, and I immediately felt nervous.

"Investigation time is over! Head on down for the class trial!"
