Chapter 2: Class Trial - Part 2
"I think I know who it might be..." I hesitantly spoke up. "When I passed Haru on my walk, he said he was going to check on Jirou. He knew about their meeting."
"I saw Haru earlier today too." Riku added. "He told me the same thing."
"W-wait!" Haru exclaimed. "I didn't do it, I'd never hurt anyone, especially not Jirou! I was going there, yeah, but when I got there they were already...."
"I heard a crash." I stated, suddenly remembering the sound that led me there. "Before I went into the hotel. I think it was the bar stool, and that looked like it was knocked over in the struggle."
Kaiya let out a small gasp. "S-so he could've killed Orochi, and Jirou saw, so he killed him too!"
"I didn't do it!" Haru yelled, panicked. "I wouldn't hurt him, I... I would never...."
"I don't think that was the order of the deaths." I corrected Kaiya, trying not to listen to Haru's pleas. I wanted to believe he was innocent, but I had to find the truth. "When I saw the bodies, Orochi's wound was incredibly fresh. It was still bleeding. He had just died... and Haru was there."
"B-but..." Haru trailed off, looking desperate. "But Jikkō still isn't cleared! It could still be her!"
"If the wound is really as fresh as Kazuki says, there is no way I could've made my way back to the hotel before you got there. Plus, Natsumi, Riku, Akio, and Michio were in the entrance, they would've seen me coming back." Jikkō reasoned. "I'm innocent. It can only be you."
Haru was silent, his expression clear with fear and defeat. I couldn't believe it. He had cared so much about Jirou... there had to be more to it.
"Looks like it's time to vote!" Monokuma stated.
It felt so rushed, but no one objected. We all cast out votes, and turns out we were right. Haru was the killer.
"You're only half right, but I'll still give it to you." Monokuma said, and I quickly felt confused. Half right?
We all looked to Haru expectantly, waiting for an explanation. With hesitation, he spoke up.
"I-I didn't... I didn't kill him..." Haru stuttered. "Orochi... he... and I couldn't... I just...."
"What he means is, he didn't kill Jirou. He walked in on Orochi stabbing Jirou, then killed Orochi." Monokuma explained. "Orochi did it because of the memory he was shown."
"So it's all your fucking fault!" Natsumi spat at the bear.
"I couldn't help it... I just saw him, and I had to do something... I shoved him away, a-and his head hit the bar... I-I didn't want to kill him...!" By now, tears were streaming down Haru's face. "W-when I checked... Jirou was already... I couldn't even save him...."
"Haru..." I was completely shocked. This wasn't right, Orochi should've been the one being punished now. Haru had just acted without thinking, and didn't mean to cause harm. "You can't punish him, it's not his fault!" I yelled at the robotic bear, who just laughed.
"Upupu! It was Haru that pushed Orochi, and that caused his death. Haru killed one of them, and that's good enough for me! It'd be no fun to punish a dead body." Monokuma stated, laughing some more. "Oh, the looks of despair on your faces is just wonderful!"
"Fuck off, you stupid bear! You can't just kill us off for your own enjoyment!" Natsumi shouted.
"But I can~" Monokuma responded in a teasing tone.
Haru was looking down, all hope absent. "Just get it over with...."

Haru was walking through a dark hallway, the dim lights flickering more and more as he got farther. Inhuman laughter could be heard, and out of nowhere came a robotic clown on wheels. It rolled towards Haru, laughing even louder, and the boy ran in the opposite direction. He came to a dead end, and backed against the wall. Just before the clown reached him, the ceiling collapsed on top of them. All we could see of our former friend was the blood seeping out from under the rubble.
