"Don't hurry, I don't want to run."
She was holding her little sister's hand, smiling. Sometimes the energy she had overwhelmed her.
"We are almost there! Let's go!" She yelled happily, pulling her arm.
"Hehe, calm down." They approached the hammocks, and the older one helped her get on. She began to push her gently, remembering where she had been hit."
"Do you want that one?" She pointed to a panda plush, which her little sister was looking at curiously.
"Actually, yes..."
"I could give it to you."
"Do you think it's worth it?"
"You're worth it." She caressed her head. "If you want, I'll give it to you."
"Junko hid her head in Ikusaba's neck, fearful. Their parents were yelling at each other, in another room.
Every time they didn't yell at each other, they yelled at them. If they were miserable, they must be miserable too, they said.
"It's over, it's over." It wasn't and it wouldn't be. "It's going to stop."
She closed her eyes, holding her tighter."
"And if they are right?" Her voice took on a low tone, remembering the words she received all that day.
"Junko, you are not a mistake."
"But they-"
"They are not right. They are stupid, they don't know what they are talking about."
"And our parents?"
"They too. They have no idea of everything you are capable of. You are worth more than you think, than everyone thinks."
"Really?" She wiped her face with her sleeve, for a moment forgetting those words.
"Yes, really."
"Are you coming back soon?" Her light blue eyes filled with tears. This caused the older one to feel sorry and guilty, choosing to caress her head to comfort her.
"I will." She didn't know. "I promise. I will miss you."
She hugged her one last time, by way of farewell."
A young girl was looking at the coffin, with her sister inside it, being closed.
The body had returned with numerous gunshot wounds, the result of a battle. The last one that ever fought.
She didn't know what to do, she had lost the most important person she had ever known in her life. Images of all she had done for her ran through her mind as he drove back to her home, the only sound interrupting this being the car's engine.
"I don't want to hear you when we get back," Her father ordered, "straight to your bed."
She didn't answer, she knew things would end badly if she refused. She didn't want to give him the joy of "okay." She didn't have the energy.
Once they arrived, she went to lie down on her bed. He pulled the sheets up, hugging the teddy bear he'd received for her as a child.
She cried silently, thinking of everything they've ever done together. Only being able to do that again sometime, being able to say goodbye...
It was not fair. The two of them continued to mistreat her, she could no longer protect her. It wasn't fair to have to know that others led normal lives. It wasn't fair how long it would take to be reunited with her.
She closed her eyes, choosing to sleep, remembering everything that happened. Dreaming of getting her back.
Getting her back, impossible, right? She remembered stories about bringing the dead back to life. They were clearly fake but...she wanted to believe a little that she could get her back. And if she could...
A few days later, she went to the library. Even if she didn't think she could get her back, she would like to read about it. It would help her deal with it, she said.
She got into a section, horror. She did not speak to anyone, neither on the way nor on the way back. She didn't mind explaining herself. She wasn't interested in letting them know. Let them get in.
She looked at the pages, interested. Stories of how the dead came back, how they acted. Although there were multiple warnings always in those stories that she shouldn't do it, the temptation of her could. If only there was a definitive method...
She kept looking, hours passed in that place and she read. Days passed and she still entered. Months passed and entering there to read those ideas was already a common habit.
She got into trouble with her parents about it, but that didn't stop her. She searched everywhere, occasionally finding records. But it was not enough.
"I've seen you go through here a lot." An older boy, about sixteen, seventeen years old, approached her. "I know you're looking for something specific."
"And what if I do it?" She ignored what he was saying, she wasn't interested.
"That if it is what I think it is, I can show you how to achieve it."
"Sure, sure..." she rolled her eyes, thinking of ignoring him.
"I know how you feel." She tried to put her hand on his shoulder.
"I know you want something back."
"You have no idea." She told him with anger disguised as calm.
"I think I have. Tell me, what exactly did you lose?"
"Listen, that's not your problem." She slammed the book she was reading shut, ready to escalate the situation.
"I'm not saying that it is, I'm saying that I can help you with that.- He offered her his hand. "Follow me. We can talk about it elsewhere."
Although Enoshima initially doubted the idea, the possibility of this working... Well, she had nothing to lose, right?
He walked her out the exit, to an abandoned building. He showed her a book, which detailed things about God and the afterlife.
She didn't believe in such things, but he wanted to do something for her.
Every day, she went with him to study. Every day she began to believe him more and more. Just what he wanted. What they wanted.
It was a rainy night when he finally decided that she would listen to him if he took her to do something. She had to go with him, taking some candles and salt. They entered a particular place, an academy that her sister had tried to attend.
There was no one inside, some security at the entrance but not too much. That made the library bigger, with more doors. More space.
"Put the salt there." He pointed to the center of the circle. "Be careful, we don't want the bag to break."
As she did it, she saw what he was doing. He would put the candles in a round, and light them. They both sat in the center, with him reading a book. She didn't understand the words he was saying, but he knew they would.
She closed her eyes, waiting for the ritual to end. He told her that they couldn't see around while this was being done. He said that she could see things that would break her mind internally, that would traumatize her. Just in case, she preferred to believe him.
"Now you can open your eyes." He told her. "Nothing bad will happen if you do."
She noticed that the place was something different from when she arrived. It was bigger.
"Don't separate, in case something happens." They needed her alive. "Let's go look for her."
While the two of them were searching, a soldier and a nurse were talking in the kitchen.
"Are you still insisting on staying?" Mikan questioned, serving herself water. "She will be sure up there, I'm tired of waiting for you to change."
"I can't be sure of that. What if something happens to her? What if she does something bad?"
"Listen, I know you're worried, but surely it's only been a few months. She'll be fine." She took a drink before continuing.
"Besides, if she does, what do you gain by being here? She can go out on her own."
"You don't understand, she misses me. I miss her."
"I know, but it's not healthy for you to stay here forever. She will surely have a nice life. She surely she will be in paradise soon."
"I... I'll think about it, but I really don't want her to have to be here alone."
"She will not be, I assure you. She will always be with someone. She is fine."
"Well... I think it won't hurt me to go... It won't hurt her..."
They left the kitchen, thinking of going to their shared room. But something stopped them...
"Muku!" The soldier was surprised to see her. Had she died? "I missed you! Now I can get you back!"
"Junko?!" She shouldn't be here. "What happened?!"
"I got a way to get here, come on! You're coming back!" She tried to hug her, resulting in her body piercing her. "Wait, what?
"I can't. I can't go anymore..."
"Please, I miss you, things are not like before." Even if she couldn't touch her, she reached for her.
"That doesn't have to be negative. Please, let me be here. You can be fine."
"But-"
"She is right. You have to get out of here." Multiple voices spoke. "Right now."
What appeared to be a stylized bear was displayed in front of them. One arm showed claws, ready to attack.
"Get away!" Ikusaba pushed Enoshima so that she could not be hurt, knowing that he would do that. "Run! Do not see it!"
She ended up hitting it on impulse, hoping she'd run away, hoping she wasn't looking. In vain.
What the sky-blue eyed girl saw was incomprehensible. It completely destroyed her, all of her understanding of the universe suddenly didn't matter, it was no good. She felt that she knew nothing and she knew everything. It hurt.
That image didn't last long. That creature received an order. Hide.
That cultist who took her had seen what happened. He hid when he noticed that something was going to show. He only came closer when that thing hid.
"Are you okay?" He wanted to check if she was okay. He had to. Enoshima was lying on the floor. She had started to panic. She cried after what she had seen. Hearing the footsteps of the one who brought her, she didn't know who he was. She could only grab something from the floor, feeling a non-existent danger.
She didn't realize that she killed her companion until she saw the tile covered in blood and her body on the floor.
She was slow to react properly, starting to scream when she suddenly saw how she was breaking down. The coup environment returned to normal, but he was still on the ground.
About three people grabbed her, dragged her out in a hurry. They took her to a car, to a dark room... They locked her in there, leaving her to be tormented by those visions of her, letting her see the walls fill with flesh and veins. Letting her skin and bones give the sensation of breaking and burning.
She didn't know how long she was like this. Hours, days perhaps? It was at one point that someone else entered.
She couldn't recognize his features, his face. The colors of his clothing looked gray, but she knew they shouldn't look that way.
"Good morning. I guess you must be Enoshima. Our student Tanaka told us about you.-"His eyes constantly disappeared from her sight. "What did you see in there?"
She didn't know what words she used to describe the things she saw. She didn't know if they even sounded coherent, but the fact that the conversation apparently continued, unaware of how she participated in it told him everything.
"We will leave you back at home, tomorrow we will look for you to check your status."
She nodded, not understanding the reason for the indications. Didn't it hurt anymore?
The next day she woke up on the floor of her room, with blows all over her body. She didn't know what happened to her coming back, nothing good, she supposed.
She went to have breakfast, only noticing noise when her parents spoke. She didn't notice when they hit her, just seeing things normally when people break into her home.
The noises of her parents faded, being replaced by two people. They would pose as them to see her. To support her financially. They had said something about having influences in modeling industries. In the academy that she entered yesterday.
They spent a whole week on this. In understanding the visions. She didn't understand why she took such a hard time, after all, the angels just wanted to help her! They wanted her to do good things! Let her make them pay!
Everything they told her to do was to help them. She had to make them pay.
They began to send her targets to kill them, initially they were people that nobody had much information about. They would surely go to hell. It was more to check her methods.
It was time later, a few months, that they managed to make a name for her. A talent. A job.
The influences they had surprised her. She managed to give him instructions on how to do everything. Although she didn't understand how she could be a competent model, that is, her body was constantly deforming, her skin bleeding all the time. She couldn't work like that.
But they made her do it. It didn't seem like it was going badly, it seemed like everything was going well.
She was not in class most of the time, she was given alibis for those moments. She was good for her job, they said. They couldn't lose her yet.
It was on one of the few days where he stayed the whole time there that he met her.
"Sorry!" She had bumped into her at the entrance. "I didn't see you, sorry."
"It's okay." She offered her hand to help her up. "It doesn't bother me."
"I still should have looked, sorry." Her pink eyes settled on her face, causing her to notice something. "Wait, are you from the main course? I think I've seen you a couple of times."
"I am, my name is Junko Enoshima. A pleasure to meet you." She smiled warmly. She didn't remember the last time she did that.
"The pleasure it's mine." She felt that there was something unusual with her, but he dismissed it, thinking that maybe she was just nervous. "I'm Chiaki Nanami."
"Heh, would you like to meet up later?" Her proposal seemed to have surprised her.
"Are you sure?" Wouldn't there be a problem with that?
"Yes, unless you have to do something, we'll see you on the way out."
With this last comment, she quickly went to her classroom, leaving that girl behind, letting her want to seize that opportunity.
A few hours (was it hours this time?) later, they met again. With no plans, no ideas, they went wandering. They talked about their lives, Junko choosing to omit various details.
This is how the months went by, usually both going to an arcade. Junko knew everything about Chiaki at that point, but she barely knew about her friend.
Still, she was in doubt. She didn't know that she could happen if they cared about her bond. If they would kick her out, if they would drive them away...
"What are you thinking about?" She got up from her chair, approaching her bed, where she was resting.
"Well..." She sat down and scratched her arm. "...I'm worried that they know that we got together..."
"Why exactly?" She stood next to her, and offered her hand.
"Because I really fear that they will do something to us, that they won't let us get together anymore. I—I mean, I'm from the reserve course, and you know how they think of someone like me hanging out with you..."
"It doesn't matter, you know they have no legal control over the situation. They can only cry about it."
"But, they can still say something, how about—"
"Calm down Chiaki, we don't need them. Because I'm not going to abandon you..." she wrapped her arms around her waist and rested her head on her shoulder, closing her eyes. "... No matter what."
The opposite let out a surprised sigh. It was strange for her to receive affection, and this was too much. But she liked that.
"Can I stay here tonight?" She still hesitated. She believed that they would worry about her not coming back.
"Of course, if you want call your parents. It's alright."
She got up and called her mother. Her muffled voice told her that she had permission to stay. She lay down next to her again, letting her cover her with her arms. She closed her eyes, and began to sleep.
Of course, each day that they sent her to help them was more complicated. So many years, so long that she found it difficult to manage.
That had caused her mood to begin to worsen. That it was more explosive at once.
"Junko, calm down-"
"No no. That guy tried to rob you and pretend he didn't do anything. I'm not going to calm down." She tried to reach him, to attack him. The only thing stopping her from doing so was that Nanami was clinging to her arm.
"It's not worth it." She insisted.
"What idea do you have as to whether or not it's worth it?" He jerked her closer, grabbing her chin. "You think you can tell me how to deal with people like that?" There was venom in her voice as she said this. .
"Junko..."
"It's either that or you're left alone."
"Alright! No I can not!"
"Very good."
This was repeated over and over again, but there was nothing wrong. She was just taking care of her! Helping her friend! She wanted her to be happy! She did it for her.
It was a single night where both finally separated. Where her true intentions were shown.
"I wonder when she will arrive." A singer was sitting, waiting for her guest. Not knowing that she was abandoned, she was no longer needed.
"Heh, yes, it will surely be nice to work with her..." Her companion, Kaede, rolled her eyes, still smiling, causing Ibuki to laugh. She liked her enthusiasm.
When she arrived, everyone was welcoming her. The three listened to the model, with what they were going to do. A few small ideas here, others there, until a request arrived.
"Could someone pass me some water please?"
"Sure!" Maizono got up and left for a moment to get a glass. It was upon returning from her that she found an image that left a mark on her, in the little that she had left of life.
The bodies of her two friends were on the ground, with ropes around their necks, cutting off their breath, and their limbs clearly broken. The cause of this, with a knife in her hand.
Before she could react, she jumped on top of her. Without giving her the ability to defend herself against her, she quickly stabbed her, only making sure to do enough for her to die.
But this time he let her scream, she could do it. They said they would give him a shelter.
In between her running away, she was heading to a house that she had already visited before. A letter that she had already written before her in order to explain to her friend what would happen.
Despite her doubts, Chiaki decided to go to that hotel. The one where Junko waited for her. The one where she ended up killing her, leaving her body tied up.
She fled, the police were already looking for her since she saw the previous scene. She tried to go to the supposed refuge that she would receive, in vain. Her exhaustion got the better of her, leaving her in the middle of the road at dawn. The last thing she saw was some car lights.
Returning to that place, she soon found Chiaki. She grabbed her wrist and dragged her into her room, in full view of a female soldier who had blamed herself for the entire situation.
She had made sure that her pink haired girl did not move away from her. That she feared her, she would constantly attack her if she saw her out of line. It was that which ironically brought her downfall.
Enoshima's teeth sank into Nanami's neck, knocking her to the ground. She growled in the process, ignoring her pleas and requests for her to stop. She pulled away from the area, surprised that she was still conscious.
With her knife he cut her stomach open. She managed to grab her guts, starting to bite them.
"Stop!" She began to scream, those being the last coherent words she could utter. Her screams drowned out the sound she made as she chewed.
In between consuming her meat, her crying was lower. The only thing that could stop her action was a blow from something metallic to her head.
She was able to notice that a figure turned its head from her to Nanami, before attacking her again, a few more times. She until she thought she had killed her. She wasted no time in taking her mangled body elsewhere.
It took her a while to get up, but she looked for the last door, which was half open. She leaned in to listen.
"Listen, you don't have to stay there if you're not sure." She left her hand on her shoulder, staring into her eyes. "Do you think you're safe in your room?"
"No..." She hugged herself. "She constantly entered my room... she would drag me to hers and sometimes I... she would go at will..."
"It wasn't your fault, she shouldn't have hurt you." She gave her hand, trying to calm her down. "Could you tell me what things she told you?"
As she told her everything that happened, she began to cry, wondering how she could be so naive, why she let her hurt her, why did she believe her words. It sickened Enoshima that she would believe that she believed that she could take her away from her for her own benefit. She discovered her name, Kyoko. How she died she, in a fire. She, what she did, she studied, she was a detective...
She made her pay for taking it off, of course. The moment they tried to contain her, she got involved.
Before opening her eyes, she noticed two things. The first was the taste of blood, pus, and glass in her mouth, the second was how much it all hurt. She could feel how her broken bones were digging into her lungs, how they kept tearing more into her flesh, how her gums throbbed, how her leg burned...
Her purple eyes dropped to her leg, taking in the damage. She looked away, only to find several bodies around her, knowing she wouldn't have anything to do. She began to silently wonder why she had to come back, why did she deserve this, why did she let this happen, why... her thoughts only stopped when she heard the sound of meat being chewed. She put her head to the ground and tried to play dead. When the sound stopped, her pulse quickened as she realized that it meant she was coming closer.
While she did her best to keep her breathing not noticeable,s he wanted to clench her teeth, resisting only when she remembered the glasses. In this process, she noticed an aroma similar to alcohol and gasoline around her. That meant...
"You finally woke up." She approached her, looking at her with hatred and smiling, dragging, something? Anyone? "Do you remember what I told you? They are all here. Well, almost all."
She tossed a body in front of him, which she recognized almost immediately.
"I suppose you can recognize her, right? It would be the last straw, that you can't recognize the person whose death you provoked." She came closer, causing her to try to back away. "What's wrong? Are you afraid of something? I'm surprised, seeing as how you provoked this."
She showed her a lighter, which she tossed to the floor. As the flames consumed everyone there, she smiled.
She had no escape, she could fix everything. She could fix them. Fix herself.
This has to be the chapter that caused me the most problems to take out. I liked it anyway, but I can't show you cool things that I was going to put :(
