Okay so basically, Junko, instead of brainwashing class 77-b, decided to turn them into what she calls nightmares, they are people with semi-magical powers, that run about the night and oftentimes kill others, they quickly turned the world into mayhem, and Junko even created a few others that weren’t in class 77-b. However, something that Junko didn’t foresee when she warped their minds to her liking, was that they would get Possessive over a specific person. Nevertheless, this wasn’t a widespread occurrence.

         These people were often referred to as Shadows, as if they were outside or in public, they’re often closely shadowed by the Nightmare who is infatuated with them.

        However, it was rare that someone would become a Shadow, as most of the time when a person encounters a Nightmare, they’ll be killed, oftentimes very slowly. Although if a Nightmare is around their shadow, they are seemingly more docile, as they don’t want to frighten them.

        Nightmares are mostly peaceful to other Nightmares, as long as they aren’t threatening their territory, this includes their Shadow. Nightmares will mark their Shadow with a symbol of theirs, so that other Nightmares know not to harm them. Though sometimes they will anyways. This always ends in a bloodied battle between the two, and the winner will kill the loser, and take over their land.

        There are a bunch of different rankings of Nightmares, some being more powerful and a higher danger, while others are weak and almost docile. Still, the ‘weak’ ones overpower humans quite easily and are very aggressive toward others, while the stronger ones are often the ones who might leave a human alone, that is if they are sneaky enough to hide when they’re near.

Nightmares have an excellent sense of smell and hearing and are oftentimes able to sense a human's presence in a large home, even when not in the same room as them. Though the stronger Nightmares are able to see and hear better, the ‘weaker‘ Nightmares have a stronger sense of presence and are frequently able to pinpoint a human's exact location in a large home.

Safest spots to be in:

Chiaki’s village. Since Chiaki is a very peaceful Nightmare, she has a small village in the countryside of Japan where she protects the Humans who live beside her, as long as they don’t harm another and occasionally give her a sacrifice (Which is about once a month.)

The Kuzuryu Teritory. While it may seem otherwise, Fuyuhiko and Peko don’t have an extremely unsafe area, they are actually decent to humans living in their territory and allow them some form of protection, as other Nightmares are forbidden to hunt Humans in their territory.

Sonia Nevermind’s Kingdom. Sonia is actually a very peaceful ruler and has many connections to other Nightmares.

The Tanaka Empire. While Gundham himself isn’t extremely protective over the people living in his territory, he doesn’t allow other Nightmares to hunt there either.
