New Faces, New Places

Fumio and I exited the room into a large decorated hallway. The walls were painted with shades of brown, red, and gold, and from the ceiling, throughout the hallway hung evenly spaced small chandeliers.

As I closed the door behind me, I noticed what appeared to be a pixelated drawing of me. I looked around to see every door in this hallway was like that, but with different people. Fifteen others, making it sixteen in total.

"These are the bedrooms." Fumio stated as we started walking. "Not much to see here, I'm pretty sure they're all the same."

I nodded. "There's sixteen of us, right?"

"Yeah, that's right. I haven't actually talked to everyone yet, just most of them." He replied, "Some of the people here are pretty weird."

We turned a corner, and approached a door on the right side of the hall. "Weird? How so?" I questioned as I opened the door to see a blue haired girl groping someone. "Oh."

She released the poor purple haired, violet eyed beauty, who quickly scurried to the opposite end of the room. I hesitantly walked inside, Fumio beside me.

"Ooh, looks like the last one finally got up!" The blue haired girl exclaimed. Her red eyes were bright with amusement, and the shade matched with her short skirt. She had a short sleeved light pink button up top, with dark red suspenders that matched her thigh high socks. Her blue hair ended above her shoulders with a few stray pieces sticking out. On her face, worn like a mask, was a pair of pink underwear. I now did not doubt Fumio saying some people here were weird.

"The name's Ginko Mikami, and my talent's the ultimate pervert!" She laughed a bit. "I have no idea what the school was thinking scouting me, but hey, I won't complain."

I was confused by her 'talent' as well, but only cleared my throat before responding. "I'm Kiko Tamai. It's nice to make your acquaintance... I think."

"And?" Ginko asked expectantly. "What's your talent?"

"My talent? I'm the ultimate..." for whatever reason, I couldn't find the word. Searching my memories, I couldn't even remember what it was related to, and it felt like so much was missing. "I..." I thought harder, I couldn't have just forgotten something this important. But I did. "I can't remember..."

"Really? Or is it just something ridiculous? Oh, are you a criminal like Yamaji-chi?" Ginko asked, before looking to him and back to me. "Y'know, you were gone a pretty long time Yamaji. Haha, did you two really take things that fa-" before she could finish, she was hit in the face with a book.

I looked over to the girl with long wavy purple hair, who was obviously the one that threw the book. "I already can't stand you, Mikami." She crossed her arms.

This girl had a much softer appearance, with a flowing pastel pink dress that ended at her knees, with a thin pink belt tied around her waist and sleeves that ended at her elbows. The bottom of the dress was decorated with daisies, and she had a daisy pin in the left side of her hair to match. Her shoes were dark pink flats, and there was a portable camera around her neck, along with a dark brown carrier bag resting at her side.

"And who let Stalker-kun get the girl? I'd like to have a word with them." She walked over to me, and I realized she was a bit taller than me. "Are you alright? He didn't do anything, did he?"

"No, I'm fine..." I replied, a hint of awkwardness in my voice.

"I'd appreciate if you didn't call me that." Fumio said to the girl, looking a bit annoyed.

She only tilted her head. "Why not? It's only what you are, you said so yourself. You're the ultimate stalker."

"Ultimate stalker...?" I looked back at Fumio, who only let out a small sigh.

"That's what the school titled me... but I'd prefer being called a devoted lover." He stated, rolling his eyes.

"Well, anyways, Tamai-chan, was it?" The purple haired girl got my attention again, and I just nodded. "My name's Daisy Jukodo, but just call me Daisy. My cousin's here too, so having two Jukodos would get confusing." She smiled a bit. "I'm the ultimate birdwatcher. Don't worry, not everyone here's a freak. I think I'm fairly normal."

"It's nice to meet you, Daisy-san." I smiled back, though I was still trying to process that the guy I was just starting to befriend was the ultimate stalker.

"Why don't you come with me instead? I'm sure you still need to meet everyone else." Daisy suggested.

"Sure." I replied, trying not to show my relief. I looked over at Fumio once more. "See you later, Yamaji-san." I glanced at Ginko as well who was rubbing her face and sulking. "You too, Mikami-san..."

Daisy and I left the room, and compared to the others, I already liked her a lot. We continued down the hall, before coming to another door. "I think I saw someone come in here..." Daisy muttered as she pushed the door open.

The room was large, with a few leather couches against the walls and a pool table placed in the middle of the room. At the far left wall was a row of chess tables, and I assumed this to be some sort of entertainment room. It looked noticeably newer than the rest of the building I had seen so far.

Standing by the pool table were a blonde girl a boy with messy brown hair. They were having a conversation in fluent English, but seeing us enter, the girl switched over to Japanese.

She swiftly approached us with a welcoming smile, her blonde locks bouncing as she walked. Her hair went just past her shoulders, with parts up in pigtails as the rest was down. She had bright blue eyes and freckles, and wore a light pink skirt and light violet scarf matched with a blue padded vest. Her stockings went up to her knees and were white striped with the same bright pink that matched her wrist warmers, along with having black high heels and a backpack.

"Hey there, you must be the last one to wake up! I think I've talked to everyone else." The girl addressed me casually. "My name's Phoebe Jackson, I'm the ultimate tourist! Call me Phoebe though, hearing my surname feels kinda weird, since I'm American and all and we don't care much for extreme politeness for just school." She paused for a moment. "Oh, I'm gonna try to use everyone else's surnames though! I know that's common curtesy in Japan."

"This is Kiko Tamai, poor thing doesn't even remember her own talent." Daisy introduced me, and I only nodded.

"Really? Wow, that must be tough." Phoebe said with a small frown. Before I could say anything, she spoke again. "Hey Orion, you should introduce yourself too!"

"Oh... that's right." The boy stepped forward and offered me a small smile. His skin was lightly tanned and his brown hair stuck out at odd angles. He wore a dark blue tank top with a drawing of Saturn on it, and wore black jeans and plain brown shoes. His belt buckle looked like three connected circles, and he had many bracelets and wristbands on each wrist. What immediately drew me in, however, were his deep green eyes. I assumed he was wearing contacts, as they made his pupils look like stars.

"I'm Orion Adams, the ultimate astronomer." He said, just a little awkward. "Sorry if my accent's really bad, I'm from Australia so Japanese isn't my first language..."

"It's noticeable, but not bothersome. I can understand you just fine." I responded, reaching out a hand to shake, which he took. "I'm Kiko Tamai."

Orion let out a small sigh of relief. "That's good... it's nice to meet you."

"Now onto the next people!" Daisy exclaimed, taking my hand and dragging me out of the room. "People were gathering in the dining room, so that'll be a good place to check."

"Okay... lead the way." I replied, though a little flustered at the sudden contact.

Daisy nodded and released me, before taking the lead once again. I followed closely as we approached a grand staircase heading down, so we must've started on the top floor. We walked down and entered another hallway, this one looking much like the last, yet more open.

As we walked, I started to hear a soft humming sound coming from behind us. I whipped my head around, only to see nothing. I felt a chill run down my spine, but told myself I must be hearing things. At least, that was until Daisy spoke up.

"Do you hear that...? Is it... singing?" She muttered thoughtfully, looking around. It wasn't long before I knew what she was talking about, and I heard what sounded like someone's voice singing to the tune of a nursery rhyme.

"Who's there?" I called out, and after a few seconds, a small giggle could be heard.

From around the corner stuck out the head and upper body of a porcelain doll, which had curly blonde hair and a lacy pink dress. Daisy let out a squeak and quickly hid behind me.

A feminine looking boy walked out into sight, the doll in his arms. He had platinum blond hair in a short choppy bob, as well as grey eyes lighter than my own. He had on a black turtleneck sweater, blue skinny jeans, and brown sneakers.

"Hello there." The boy said wistfully, tilting his head to the side. "Another new person... I'm Arata Haruno, the ultimate doll maker. Pleased to meet you."

"I'm Kiko Tamai..." I hesitantly replied, and Daisy came out from behind me.

"Oh, it's just Haruno-kun! I-I knew that!" She said with a nervous laugh.

"I think Misaki wants to play with you, Daisy-chan~." Arata said, holding out his doll.

Daisy took a nervous step back. "Oh... um... I'd love to, but uh... I'm showing Tamai around so I can't bye!" She spoke quickly before dragging me away once more.

I was a little confused at how nervous she obviously was. Sure, Arata was odd, but it was only a doll. That thing couldn't even try to hurt you, it's an inanimate object.

Daisy looked like she was about to say something, but before she had a chance to there was a loud bang, followed by some smaller ones, coming from down the hall. I jumped a bit, surprised, but Daisy just rolled her eyes. "I'm pretty sure I know who that is... c'mon, Tamai-chan."

We walked towards the source of the sounds, and ended up back at the staircase. Sitting on the floor in front of the stairs was a boy with the same dark purple hair as Daisy, but short and messy. His violet eyes matched hers as well, and there was a small trickle of blood coming down his forehead.

"Kiyoshi, you have to be more careful..." Daisy sighed, slowly shaking her head before holding out a hand to help him. He took it and stood up.

He had on a long sleeves red shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, beige-tan pants with ripped knees, brown boots, and black leather gloves. He looked to me with a nervous smile. "Oh, hi there... wow, this is an embarrassing first impression..." he muttered. "Um, I'm Kiyoshi Jukodo, the ultimate... unlucky student."

"Bad luck...? That's a talent?" I was a little confused, but then again, if there was an ultimate pervert, anything goes.

"Trust me, when it gets to his level, it's a talent to be that unlucky." Daisy replied, sounding a little disappointed. "Kiyoshi's my cousin... I should probably take care of him. You can find your way to the dining room on your own, right?"

I gave a small nod. "I should be okay. Thanks for showing me around, Daisy-san."

"No problem!" Daisy replied with a warm smile, before going off with Kiyoshi to tend to his wounds.

I turned around and headed back down the hall. I had no idea where I was going, but I was sure to find the dining room eventually. The next door I saw, I immediately went over to, pushing it open.

This room appeared to be a kitchen, with white counters, a sink, fridge, and cupboards. Inside the room, sitting on a counter and eating cookies, was a very short girl with ginger hair in twin braids. She had amber eyes and freckles, with a flowing yellow dress ending just below her knees, the sleeves going down to her elbows. She also had dark brown flats on.

"Oh, hi!" The short girl greeted with a smile, wiping some cookie crumbs off her face. "Who're you?"

"I'm Kiko Tamai." I simply replied, looking her over. "What's your name?"

"Aika Hotoko." The ginger stated cheerfully. "Aika's glad to meet you!" She talks in the third person? Weird...

"Well, I'm going to the dining room, see you later." I said with a small wave, and she waved back. It felt awkward to just leave, but engaging in a conversation with someone who talked like that would likely cause me more pain than it was worth. I headed back out of the room and into the hallway, but after walking a bit more I saw two more people. There seemed to be no order to this, everyone was spread all over the place.

There was a girl and a guy standing there, talking to each other. The girl was of about average height, just a bit taller than me, and had wavy golden blonde hair pulled into a ponytail at the right side of her head, along with bangs framing her face. She had brown eyes and a black shirt with some red roses printed on it, with a open blue flannel shirt draped over it. Her shorts were bright blue jeans, the ends cut into a pattern of curves, and her white boots were knee high. I recognized her immediately as the world famous theatre actress, Annabelle Parks. It was no surprise to me that she was here, though she was mostly famous in America, she had come to Japan to preform many times.

The boy was taller than her, with neatly combed silver hair and dark blue eyes. He wore a white button up shirt with an open jean jacket over it, along with black jeans and black and white converse.

Soon the two noticed me, and Annabelle approached me first. "Hey there! I don't think we've talked yet, but you probably already know about me. I'm Annabelle Parks, the ultimate broadway actress!" She exclaimed.

"Yes, I did know about you, it's hard not to with how famous you are." I replied with a small smile. "My name's Kiko Tamai... I'm sorry I can't tell you my talent, it seems I have some form of selective amnesia..."

"Really? You poor thing!" Annabelle pouted, and patted me on the head. I tried to hold back a cringe, but involuntarily took a step back. I couldn't stand having my head patted.

The silver haired boy stepped forward as well. "We haven't met either. I'm Junichi Wakino, the ultimate florist. It's really a shame you don't remember your talent, but I'm sure it'll come to you soon." He reached out his hand to me, and assuming he wanted to shake, I took it. I was completely taken aback, however, when Junichi bent down and kissed the back of my hand.

I immediately blushed, and when he released me he gave me a charming smile. "Even though you seem like a serious woman, you're still quite beautiful, Tamai-san~."

I had no idea how to respond, and Annabelle made me even more awkward by slinging an arm around my shoulders. "Hey Junichi-kun, stop flirting with every girl you see! You're gonna break some hearts like that!"

"But I can't just give anyone special treatment, that wouldn't be fair." Junichi tilted his head, looking a bit confused. "There's enough of me to go around."

"Okay then, ultimate haram dude." Annabelle sighed. "Kiko and I are gonna go to the dining room now, bye!" Before I could refuse, she was dragging me away. She used my first name... I guess it is common knowledge she has little manners.

Finally I had made it to the dining room, even if the means of getting there weren't voluntary. Annabelle and I walked inside, and I was in awe at the ginormous room. The ceiling was insanely high with a grand chandelier hanging over the extremely long table, bigger than what would be in a conference room.

There were five people seated in some of the cushioned chairs, and I guessed these were the last students I had to meet. Making my presence known wouldn't be an issue with how loud Annabelle was.

"Hey everyone, I got the last student!" She exclaimed, and all attention turned towards us.

I let out a small sigh, but brushed her off. "I'm Kiko Tamai, it's a pleasure to meet you all."

"I'm Yūrei Sakakibara!" A redheaded boy exclaimed, jumping up from his seat. His deep orange hair was spiky and stood up, and he had yellow eyes, one of which was covered with a medical eyepatch. He wore a dark blue jacket with the sleeves rolled up over a white shirt, and had ripped jeans. His right hand was wrapped in bandages. "I'm the ultimate paranormal investigator!"

Next went a boy with somewhat neat strawberry blonde hair, with one odd piece sticking out from the top, not unlike my hair. He had orange eyes and was covered in many freckles, and wore grey sweatpants, a white shirt, and a light purple hoodie over with a darker 25 printed on the top left. "I'm Daichi Fujimoto, just the lucky student, I don't  have a real talent really."

The tallest girl there spoke next. Her hair was straight, brown, and in a bob cut, and she had deep brown eyes to match. She wore black leggings, running shoes, a pink sports bra and a dark green sleeveless hoodie. Her breasts were quite large. "I'm Uzuki Fukazawa, the ultimate freerunner. It's nice to meet you." She gave a small smile.

I heard a small giggle, and my attention turned towards a girl with bangs covering her eyes. Her hair was dirty blonde, messy, and went just past her shoulders. She wore a navy blue sweatshirt with a jean vest over it, along with dark brown jeans and black sneakers. "You already seem very interesting, Tamai~." She giggled again. "My name's Manami Nagasawa, I'm the ultimate enigmatologist. I'm sure we'll be the best of friends...!"

Manami already seemed a little creepy, but I brushed that off, instead looking to the last one to speak.

He had black hair that stuck up at odd angles, and brown eyes. He had a black jacket over a white shirt and navy blue sweatpants, as well as black and white converse. "The name's Kyou Akamine, I'm an attorney."

I stared at him for a moment, a strange feeling of nostalgia coming to me. "Akamine-san... you seem... familiar."

"Do I?" Kyou looked a little confused, then nodded a bit. "Yeah, you do too. I wonder-"

Before he could complete his thought, a strange laughter filled the air.

"Upupupu~!"
