Sea of Truth, Guava and Goodbyes (Trial 1: Part 2)
Leo paled. "Alice...? No way. She couldn't have done this. I mean, there's no way she could have transported the body, right? He was too heavy for her. And, there's no evidence to show that she entered my room!"
Nova snapped her fingers. "That's it! I know how the body was transported. She didn't lift him up. She used something else," Nova turned to the Ultimate Pop Star. "You took one of the shopping carts from supermarket and used that. I knew I remembered seeing a shopping cart parked on the side of his cottage!"
Leo turned frantically to Alice. "That can't be, right? You wouldn't kill a person, right?"
Alice was quiet before she smiled eerily. "There's no proof that I ever went into Leo's cottage, is there?" she said in a low voice. "How would I have done that?"
The trial room was silent before Elson looked up at her, clutching the rail of his stand. "You got in through the window, didn't you? You were the one who suggested that we enter through there when we tried to get into Legend's cottage. That's because you'd done it before."
"How did he not wake up, then? All of our rooms are different, right? Made to fit us," Alice leaned forward, chin in her hands. "This is just a hunch, but Leo's room is one that blocks out sound and light. In addition, his windows have blinds that block out light. Even if I was quiet, what about the light? Anyone would wake up if their pitch black room suddenly became bright with the moonlight."
"My blinds have always been open. There's always been moonlight streaming through," Leo said.
"That means it wouldn't have changed much, even if you slipped in through the window," Yumi said.
Alice tilted her head. "You still can't prove that I was the one in there, can you?"
Leo closed his eyes as he took a deep breath, still in disbelief. "No. You're wrong. There's one thing you said to me that could have proved you were there, Alice Knightwalker."
Alice examined the boxes of cookies sitting on a shelf before she picked them out. 'Macarons, huh? You had a box of chocolate chip cookies in your room, so I thought you were like Phoenix.'
Alice paled slightly as she looked up at him. "How could...how could you do this to me?"
Leo clenched his fists. "That was days ago. That means you've been preparing for this murder for several days now. That box of cookies that Phoenix gave to me was sitting on my dresser, out of sight from the window and the door. Yet, you knew about it. You've never been in my cottage before, either."
Alice was quiet before she began to slowly laugh. Soon, Leo was horrified as he watched the cheerful expression that he had grown fond of morph into a cold, condescending glare as she stopped smiling. "Fine. You got me. I was the one who murdered Legend Rowe and who tried to frame Phoenix and Leo."
Eve stumbled back in fear, eyes wide. "Wh-why?!"
The Ultimate Pop Star grinned. "Because I wanted to get off of this island. I've got a lot of fans waiting for me, you know? I climbed to the top of the social ladder with my own hands, and I refuse to give it up like this. A human life isn't that much of a sacrifice when you really think about it."
Leo blanched. "You...you were the one who told us to not give up! You wanted us all to be friends—"
"Friends?" Alice looked up at him with a deadpan expression. "They can burn for all I care."
"What about your video? Your parents?"
"Ah, that was a lie that I told. You see, I couldn't really care less about what happened to them. After all, you can't turn garbage into gold, can you? My video was about me. My fame, my fortune," Alice yawned before she smirked. "Now, let's move from this conversation. I'd rather talk about how I got rid of Legend. That makes a much better story."
Gin tilted his head curiously. "Answer me this, then. How did you get the poison, and why did you try to kill him that way?"
Alice shrugged. "I just asked Dagger. He gave it to me."
Dagger, who was busy daydreaming, suddenly snapped back into attention. "I heard my name. Did I give her the poison? Yup! I said I'd do anything for you guys as your host, right?" He grinned. "Ah, but don't worry. I wouldn't give her anything lethal."
Alice giggled slightly. "Let me explain. See, at first, I didn't really want to have to stain my own hands with blood, you know? So I thought, since Legend seemed the most self-absorbed person, he would be the easiest to manipulate. I poisoned him and told him that if he killed someone for me, then I would give him the antidote. Since I was the one who manipulated him, then I would be the one to go free after you all guessed the wrong murderer."
A shadow seem to pass through Raven's face as she glared at her with a seething expression. "You...tried to convince him to murder someone?"
"Mhm! But, you know, it was a bust. The idiot turned out to be quite selfless, actually. That was why he put on the fashion show in the first place. It was such a ruin to my plans, really. He thought that he would die on the day he put on the show, which would be perfect to get rid of me. But, he didn't want to tell you guys just so he could avoid the panic. He dropped a hint, though! Right, Raven?"
Raven paled. "Is that why...he asked me to take over in case anything happened?"
Alice began to cackle. "He really loved you guys, you know?! He was so afraid that I would kill someone else, so he chose to accept death and tell you guys the culprit! Hahahaha!"
Leo suppressed the urge to vomit. "So why did you stab him instead?"
"Well, I couldn't have the boy telling secrets, could I? So I decided to dispose of him myself. He put up a fight. He thought he could grab a knife and try to kill me instead, but I won."
"And from then, you gathered everything you needed, right?" Gin asked. "Leo's clothes, the shopping cart. I'm guessing you even rigged the stage."
Alice shrugged. "A little bit. I was the one who suggested that Phoenix use an infrared sensor to activate everything for a bit of pizazz. The dimwit forgot about the fact that you can literally use any remote to activate a sensor, since all of it came from the supermarket. So, I had an extra remote with me. I turned off the lights, and, as soon as Phoenix turned them back on, I hit the remote once again and activated everything that was powered by the generator!"
"And the body fell down." Aspen concluded. "How did you get it up there in the first place?"
"Well, Phoenix had to get up there somehow, right? She had a rope and pulley system that I suggested as well, which had a platform stable enough to fit two people to get you to the top. After that, it was just a matter of making sure his body didn't fall off the curtain when I disposed of it. Ah, of course, I got rid of all the blood with the towel that I brought."
"One other thing." Leo said. "You were wearing a dress when we talked that night. And, if I'm correct...you weren't wearing shoes, were you?"
"Nope. I brought a dress over to Legend's cottage when I planned my murder, along with a towel. Ah, but I got a little bit of blood on it, so that was a little hard to cover up. You were really dumb for not noticing it."
Leo clutched the stand tighter, his knuckles white. "You covered it up with the bag of fireworks, didn't you? It would give you a temporary cover-up that would've worked because there was no moon that night."
"And then she got rid of the dress by putting it in the closet where all of the other torn clothes were," Elson said. "That also gave her an excuse to rip off the part where there was blood, so she could hide it in the supermarket along with the bloody towel we found."
Alice gave a thumbs up. "Ding ding ding! All of this would've gone well if Angel hadn't seen me try to get back to my cottage. You were all so easy to manipulate." She turned to Dagger. "Well? I lost. Get rid of me."
Raven scowled. "Wait. Let's go over the entire case first. I don't trust you."
The Ultimate Pop Star pouted. "That's so mean. In that case, can I recommend someone to do it?"
Cornelia rose an eyebrow. "Who?"
Alice smiled as she pointed at Leo. "Him. We spent the most time together, after all. I won't say that all of my interactions were fake...so I had a good time hanging around you."
Leo closed his eyes tightly, ignoring the painful rhythm of his heartbeat as he looked up at her in the eyes. "Fine. I'll do it."
Alice held her hands out. "Then, please start."
"The murderer of this case wanted to escape from the very beginning, despite being the very one who encouraged us to ignore the videos. They figured that Legend, who had a large ego, would be the easiest to manipulate. So, they poisoned him, with the idea that he would willingly commit murder if he was offered a chance at surviving the poison. However, Legend didn't do what they had expected. Instead, he was thinking of us. He accepted his death, but refused to let the culprit get away with their crimes, so that's why he suggested a fashion show.
"The culprit was fearful that they would be caught, so they decided to dispose of Legend before he could announce who killed him. They began to gather everything that they needed of the murder. On the first night, they went into my cottage to take a standard button-up shirt and two pairs of socks, so that they wouldn't make a sound or leave footprints when they were running around at night. I'm assuming they grabbed a knife after my tea session, when I left to go consult with Legend about my outfit. It was perfect since they had offered to clean up afterwards, which gave them an excuse to be alone in the kitchen. They then prepared everything else, including the shopping cart, the fireworks, and the sensor. They convinced Phoenix to put an infrared sensor on the generator, which would activate everything. This way, they could control it whenever they wanted as well, timing when the body would fall.
"They didn't expect it, but Legend decided that he was going to fight back as well. Legend had grabbed a knife and was ready for her at any time. In addition, he told Raven to take care of the fashion show, thus preventing the panic that it might've caused if he wasn't there. At that time, he happened to wear a tuxedo because he was trying it on for the fashion show. The night of the murder, the culprit wore my shirt and no pants, as well as my socks. That way, they could move freely around without having pants that didn't fit them. They brought along their dress to change into afterwards, fully expecting that they would have to pretend to go to bed afterwards, as well as the knife.
"When they attacked, however, Legend was prepared. He dodged her attack, resulting in a stab on the bed. However, the culprit had him up against his dresser, and proceeded to stab him four times in the stomach. He didn't die, so they decided to cut his throat and end his life once and for all. After that, they hid his body by putting it in the shopping cart next to his window, and putting that in the bushes. They went to his bathroom and disposed of the bloody clothes before washing themselves off in Legend's bathroom. There was a bit of blood that had gotten on their dress, but they ignored it and instead put it on, hiding it by holding a bag of fireworks to conceal it while they talked to me.
"After everyone had gone to bed, they left once again and began to dispose of the body. They put on the second pair of socks before going off to dispose of the body. With the shopping cart, they made their way to the stage, where they left footprints in the sand. Using the rope and pulley contraption that they had manipulated Phoenix into using, they transported his body all the way up onto the curtain and hid his body up there, where the blood soaked through slowly.
"As soon as they finished disposing of the body, they made sure to clean up everything with a towel that they had brought. Afterwards, they took the shopping cart back to the supermarket, making sure to wipe the blood off before also hiding the towel. It was also a perfect time to get rid of the bloodstains in their dress, so they ripped it off and hid it along with the bloody towel.
"Afterwards, they went back to Legend's cottage, where I'm guessing they washed themselves one last time. They knew that the dress would be a dead giveaway if found, so they solved that problem by hanging it up in the closet that already had torn clothing in it anyway. They also disposed of the second pair of socks in the same bathtub. That left them naked, but it was only a matter of getting back to their cottage. However, Angel, who had woken up, saw them running back to their cottage. She dismissed it as a dream because it seemed too surreal.
"The culprit thus made it back to their cottage, where they then pretended to act just as shocked as the rest of us in the morning when Legend's body fell. They, however, were the ones who triggered for that to happen, resulting in the grotesque scene of the crime that we were dealt with.
"And that culprit...is you, Alice Knightwalker, the Ultimate Pop Star!"
Alice grinned as she clapped. "Congratulations. So you found out that I was the murderer. What a shame, really. I really, really wanted to get off of this damned island, but...I suppose that this is okay. I fully expect to be torn apart by my fans when they find out what I did." She stepped off her stand, offering Leo a hand to shake. "I despise making friends, but I'm not lying when I said that I had a lot of fun talking with you. You were really interesting."
Leo looked at her hand cautiously before he shook it. "Thank you...I guess."
The Ultimate Pop Star smiled before she leaned in next to his ear. "Come join me whenever you want. I want to talk more."
Leo shivered as he quickly pulled away, trying to calm his breathing. "You're...you're not the Alice I knew."
"I suppose you're right. But, remember what I told you?" She turned to face Dagger, who was practically jumping in his seat in anticipation.
"Everything has a dark side to it. It's just too bad that all of me is like that."
