Despite what you may think, this has absolutely nothing to do with the DEH plot.
Characters: Shuichi Saihara, Kokichi Ouma

Waving From A Window is from Dear Evan Hansen.
--------------

Kokichi walked through the hallways at his school.

Class had just finished, and he was heading to lunch.

He wasn't really one of the popular kids. More like infamous.

I've learned to slam on the brake

Kokichi walked out into the courtyard where everyone else usually went, carrying some books.

There was a small tree by a corner that provided a tiny bit of shade.

Nobody had sat there.

Before I turn the key

Kokichi acidentally stepped on someone's foot, and turned back.

Before I make the mistake

Kaito was there, "Seriously? You're not even going to say sorry?"

Kokichi grinned, giggling his signature giggle, "Nishishi!"

He ran towards the lonesome tree.

Before I lead with the worst of me

Kokichi stared down the entire journey.

Give them no reason to stare

He finally reached the tree and set the books he had down next to him, leaning up against the tree, stretching his legs out.

No slipping up if you slip away

Kokichi didn't really have any friends.

He simply took out his lunch and started eating.

So I've got nothing to share

...

No, I got nothing to say

The clouds overhead moved, letting some sunlight hit Kokichi's feet.

He pulled them closer to his chest.

Step out, step out of the sun

If you keep getting burned

Kokichi looked around at everyone around him.

Some didn't notice him at all.

Those that made eye contact with him scowled and turned away.

Step out, step out of the sun

Because you've learned,

Because you've learned

Kokichi looked up at the school.

On the outside, always looking in

Maybe if things had been different, he would actually be content with life.

Will I ever be more than I've always been?

Kokichi glanced up at the top floor of the school, where nobody ever went because nothing was up there.

Huh?

There was a boy.

He had a black cap over some blue hair. The boy also had dull gold eyes.

He tapped the window three times.

Cause I'm tap, tap, tapping on the glass.

The boy stared down at Kokichi, waving.

Although, it seemed he didn't actually think Kokichi saw him.

I'm waving through a window.

The boy opened his mouth, seemingly saying something.

I try to speak but nobody can hear

So I wait around for an answer to appear

Kokichi slowly raised a hand.

While I'm watch, watch, watching people pass

He waved back to the boy in the window.

I'm waving through a window

Oh

The boy seemed startled.

Was he not expecting for someone to see him?

He retreated quickly, running away from the window.

Can anybody see?

Is anybody waving back at me?

-------------

Kokichi had been excited for his first day of school.

It was a new opportunity to actually make friends.

He couldn't call anyone from his old school that, so why not start here?

We start with stars in our eyes

We start believing that we belong

He already messed it up on the first day though.

Apparently, the kids at this school can't handle a joybuzzer prank.

But every sun doesn't rise

Kokichi sat back down at the tree, after reminiscing about his past.

And no one tells you where you went wrong

Kokichi looked back up at the window where he saw the boy yesterday.

He was there again, staring out the window at all the students.

...

Kokichi headed inside, taking his stuff with him.

He started heading up the stairs.

Step out, step out of the sun

If you keep getting burned

Halfway up the stairs, Kokichi broke into a full sprint.

This might be his one and only chance at having a friend.

Step out, step out of the sun

Because you've learned,

Because you've learned

Kokichi finally made it to the top floor, but didn't make his presence known just yet.

The boy was leaning on the window, sighing.

"Figures. The one person who waved back at me is gone," The boy sighed.

On the outside always looking in

Kokichi stepped around the corner.

"Who are you?"

The boy jumped, turning around, "Eh? You aren't supposed to be here!"

"It was never off limits," Kokichi responded, "It's just nobody wants to come up here."

The boy looked back at the window.

"Shuichi Saihara. Who are you?"

Will I ever be more than I've always been?

"Kokichi Ouma."

Shuichi tapped the glass three times in a pattern like yesterday.

Cause I'm tap, tap, tapping on the glass

Kokichi went next to him and waved.

Waving through a window

They both walked away from the window.

"I know you saw me yesterday," Shuichi started, looking away, hugging himself, "Why you come up here?"

I try to speak but nobody can hear

Kokichi looked up at him, "You seemed lonely. Like you needed a friend."

Shuichi sighed, "But still. Why come up here? So we could be friends?"

"Yes."

Shuichi's eyes widened, turning towards Kokichi again, "Really?"

Kokichi nodded, "If you want, we could become friends. I mean, do you want too?"

So I wait around for an answer to appear

Shuichi smiled, "I'd like that."

They both walked towards the window again, starting conversation.

While I'm watch, watch, watching people pass

And that was how Kokichi met his best friend.

Waving through a window

Oh

Kokichi and Shuichi spent the next months talking at that very window.

Can anybody see?

Is anybody waving...?

-----------------

Kokichi had been friends with Shuichi for a couple of months.

He was the happiest he'd ever been.

Kokichi walked up to the top floor like usual.

Shuichi was there, like usual, although something was off.

Instead of turning and greeting Kokichi happily like normal, he was staring out the window, looking depressed.

Shuichi turned to him.

"I need to show you something."

Kokichi blinked, "Alright."

Shuichi led him down the stairs and into the forest next to the school.

When you're falling in a forest

They eventually made it to a large clearing with a tall tree that rose higher than the surrounding ones.

And there's nobody around.

Shuichi took a step towards the tree, Kokichi following.

Do you ever really crash, or even make a sound?

The two of them starting climbing the tree, Shuichi telling Kokichi where to place his hands and feet to climb up.

When you're falling in a forest

And there's nobody around

Kokichi's foot slipped, but Shuichi caught him and helped Kokichi regain his grip.

Do you ever really crash, or even make a sound?

They climbed higher and higher.

When you're falling in a forest

And there's nobody around

Do you ever really crash, or even make a sound?

Eventually, the two males made it to the top of the tree, sitting on the largest branch up there.

When you're falling in a forest

"What did you want to show me?" Kokichi asked Shuichi.

And there's nobody around

Shuichi turned to Kokichi, smiling sadly.

"The truth."

Do you ever really crash or even make a sound?

Shuichi pushed himself off the tree.

Kokichi screamed, "SHUICHI!"

Did I even make a sound?

Kokichi quickly made his way down the tree, hoping to save Shuichi.

Did I even make a sound?

Kokichi made it to the bottom, running around the tree where Shuichi had fallen.

It's like I never made a sound

Shuichi was Kokichi's best friend! He couldn't just die!

Will I ever make a sound?

Shuichi was standing there, looking at a corpse.

The corpse looked exactly like him.

He turned to Kokichi.

A tear rolled down his cheek.

"This is the truth."

Kokichi stood there, shocked.

On the outside always looking in

Kokichi ran up to Shuichi, "You're a ghost?"

Shuichi smiled, nodding.

Will I ever be more than I've always been?

"I have to go now."

Kokichi quickly grabbed onto Shuichi's arm, "You can't!"

"You're my only friend!"

Cause I'm tap, tap, tapping on the glass

Shuichi smiled, waving goodbye.

Waving through a window

His body slowly began to turn into mist.

"You'll find another one."

I try to speak but nobody can hear

"But they won't be you!" Kokichi shouted.

So I wait around for an answer to appear

Shuichi shook his head, "I guess they can't be."

"Don't leave," Kokichi whimpered as Shuichi finally faded away.

While I'm watch, watch, watching people pass

Waving through a window

Oh

---------------

Kokichi went back to school, only more quieter than ever.

Can anybody see?

Kaito and some kids started whispering, "What's up with him? Did he finally realize nobody likes him?"

Is anybody waving back at me?

Oh

Kokichi started walking back up the stairs.

Is anybody waving?

He made it to the top floor, looking out the window.

Waving?

The same window they would always spend time at.

Waving?

He looked down at all the other students.

Woah

All this had happened, and lunch hadn't even been halfway over.

Woah
