Kaede yelped as a needle poked her leg.

"Stupid Tailor!" Her mom, the queen of the kingdom, shouted, hitting the poor girl in the back of the head.

After finishing the fancy dress Kaede was wearing, the Queen ushered her out of the shop.

Such a shame. That girl was eye candy. Did you see her as-

So Kaede liked girls. Bite her.

(Not literally, please.)

Kaede tugged at the dress she was wearing. It was a sleeveless dark purple dress with layered ruffles at the bottom. She was also wearing light purple gloves and flats.

Tonight was a ball in honor of Kaede.

At least, that's what her parents said to the villagers. Kaede knew it was just her parents trying to get her to marry a boy.

How do you break the news to your homophobic parents (who are also the rulers of your kingdom) that you're a lesbian?

Her mom walked into the room Kaede was sitting in, Kaede's own bedroom, without knocking.

"It's time for the party!" Her mom cheered, handing a butterfly mask to Kaede before leaving.

Kaede sighed before putting the mask on.

She stared at the mirror across from her bed and made a determined face.

'C'mon Kaede! You can make it through the night! Just dodge all of the males who want to seduce you!'

Kaede forced on a smile. After all the balls her parents had thrown, it was second nature by now.

"The ball will now begin!" Her father bellowed. Cheers could be heard from the entire room.

Kaede walked down the stairs. As she reached the final step, a prince from a neighboring country walked up.

Here we go again...

"Hey there sweetcheeks, I'm-" Kaede zoned out the rest of his intro. "So, ya wanna go to the bedroom together? Just you and me?" Kaede almost gagged. Her eyes darted around the room. No one was watching them.

Perfect.

She quickly kicked him in the crotch and walked towards the snack stand. Kaede grabbed a plate and started putting random snacks on it.

"C-Can you l-leave me alone, please?"

Kaede looked to where she had heard the noise thanks to her sensitive hearing.

A prince with dark hair and a hat was being harassed by a blond prince with glasses and a princess with a blond ponytail.

"You're so emo! I can't believe your parents let you even bring that hat!" The blond prince laughed.

"Let us do you a favor!" The princess sneered, snatching the hat off his head.

"H-Hey!" The first prince exclaimed, "G-Give it back!"

Kaede walked over and took the hat out of the princess' hand. "You shouldn't bully others! You are going to be a ruler of a kingdom when you grow up. Is this how a ruler would act?" She lectured.

She placed the hat on the boy's head and dragged him off to the balcony, locking the door behind them.

"Ah, thank god." The prince sighed, adjusting his hat, "Thanks for that, er-"

"My name's Kaede. Kaede Akamatsu." She answered the unsaid question, getting ready for him to start seducing her.

"Nice to meet you Akamatsu. I'm Shuichi Saihara." Shuichi replied.

Kaede waited.

And waited.

And waited.

He turned to the balcony and looked at the stars.

"You aren't gonna try to flirt with me?" Kaede asked, confused.

"Nah, I'm gay." Shuichi responded, not paying attention. As soon as he realized what he said, he slapped a hand over his mouth and turned towards Kaede. She could see the panic in his eyes.

"Please, don't tell my parents! They'll literally kill me if they find out!" Shuichi grabbed Kaede's hands and lifted it up, desperation clear in his voice.

Before thinking, Kaede asked, "You're gay, too?"

Shuichi's eyes widened.

Kaede pointed at herself, "I'm lesbian." Then pointed at Shuichi, "And you're gay."

Shuichi nodded.

Kaede smiled and clapped happily, "Finally! Someone else gets it!"

Shuichi sighed, "I thought I was gonna have to go the rest of my life keeping that a secret."

"But now you don't!" Kaede exclaimed. She paused," Wait, we are friends now, right?"

Shuichi yelled, "Hell yeah!" before slapping a hand over his mouth again.

Kaede giggled.

The door to the balcony suddenly slammed open.

The pair of teenagers turned to look who opened the door.

It was their parents.

Fuck.
