Chapter 1:
Recipe For Disaster

Jim opened his eyes to find himself laying on a bed and inside of a bedroom.

Jim Lake Jr: 'Huh? Where am I? Is this a bedroom? What's going on?'

Claire Nunez: "Oh, Jim! Thank goodness you're awake!"

Jim Lake Jr: "Claire? Wait. . . what's happening? Where is everyone?"

Claire Nunez: "They've all been exploring this building that we're in. I stayed behind after you fainted. This is your dorm room."

Jim Lake Jr: "Dorm room?"

Claire Nunez: "Yeah, we've all got one assigned to us. I guess that robotic bear is serious about is living here forever."

Jim Lake Jr: 'That's right. . .'

Monokuma: "Well, to put it simply. . . you'll basically have to spend the rest of your lives here. No escape, no nothing!"

Monokuma: "There *is* a way you can leave this place, if you desire to. But I can't promise it'll be great."

Loona: "And that way would be what?"

Monokuma: "By cold-blooded murder, of course!"

Jim Lake Jr: "Man. . . I was hoping this was all a bad dream. I guess it's not."

Claire Nunez: "Yeah. . . I was hoping that was the case, too. But unfortunately, everything is real. We've been subjected to a "killing game", as Monokuma put it."

Jim Lake Jr: "As if he couldn't get any more messed up. Now he's calling this a game?!"

Claire Nunez: "But don't worry. I'll stay by your side the whole time."

Jim Lake Jr: "Why? I'm not asking you to do that."

Claire Nunez: "Well. . . I just feel like I have to."

Jim Lake Jr: "Well, that's fine then. Let's go ahead and investigate."

Claire Nunez: "Actually. . . I think we should wait for everyone to get done. Then we can meet up and see what they found."

Jim Lake Jr: "Why?"

Claire Nunez: "Well. . . I need to talk to you about something. It's important."

Jim Lake Jr: "What is it?"

Claire Nunez: "Earlier when I said that I thought I knew you, I was being serious. There's just something about you that I recognize. Are you sure we haven't met before?"

Jim Lake Jr: "I. . . I really don't understand. If we have met before, then I think I'd remember. But I don't."

Claire Nunez: "Oh. . . well then, I guess that's it then. Sorry, I don't even know what I'm saying. Go ahead and forget I said anything at all."

Jim Lake Jr: 'Now You're concerning me, Claire. . .'

Claire Nunez: "Also, Monokuma gave us this. I thought I'd let you know about it."

Claire then handed Jim a small electronic tablet.

Claire Nunez: "He called it the Student E-book. It has the rules of the place written down in it and stuff. Also, he mentioned that it was very important to our school lives."

Jim Lake Jr: "Of course it is. . ."

Claire Nunez: "I haven't looked at the rules yet. I was too worried about you."

Jim Lake Jr: "That's okay. We can read them together."

Jim then turned on his Student E-book and when he did, his name popped up front and center on the screen.

Jim Lake Jr: 'Huh. . . this is kind of cool. What am I saying?'

Jim then went to the 'rules' tab and began to read through the rules that were set in place for them.

Welcome, students! Here are some rules that you *must* follow in order to maintain a healthy, happy, communal school life.

Rule #1: You are free to explore the school to your discretion. However, any blocked off areas or locked doors are forbidden to enter until further notice.

Rule #2: Any damage of school property is prohibited and any offenders will be punished accordingly.

Rule #3: Private dorms have been assigned to each student. You are required to sleep there. Any one who isn't sleeping in the dorms at night, will be punished, as it will be seen as sleeping in class.

Rule #4: The dining hall will be off limits at nighttime. Anyone who goes there will be punished.

Rule #5: Nighttime is from 10:00 pm to 7:00 am. But you are not required to be sleeping at that time.

Rule #6: If you want to escape so badly, you must commit a murder and get away with it.

Rule #7: A body discovery announcement will play once 3 or more people find a body (This doesn't include the killer themselves).

Rule #8: An investigation period will be held once a body is discovered. You will have a certain amount of time before the class trial begins. So use the time wisely.

Rule #9: During a class trial, if you find the correct blackened, they alone will be punished. But if you find the wrong one, then all besides the blackened will be punished.

Rule #10: Violence against Headmaster Monokuma is prohibited.

Any new rules may be added by the headmaster at any given time.

Jim Lake Jr: "I mean. . . these rules seem pretty standard, right? Aside from the investigation class trial stuff."

Claire Nunez: "That's what I thought to. This *is* a school, after all."

Jim Lake Jr: "And all this talk of punishment. . . that robot bear is really serious about this, isn't it?"

Claire Nunez: "As long as we stick together, everything should be fine, though, right?"

Jim Lake Jr: "I don't know if anyone else feels the same way."

Claire Nunez: "Don't worry about them, Jim. I already said that I'll stay by your side. You may not be able to trust anyone else here, but I promise that you can trust me."

Jim Lake Jr: "Thanks, Claire."

Suddenly there was a knock at Jim's door. Claire got up and went to open the door to see someone had arrived at his dorm.

Issei Hyodo: "Oh. . . uh, hey. Claire, was it?"

Claire Nunez: "Ick. . . it's you."

Jim Lake Jr: "Oh, hey Issei."

Issei Hyodo: "What are you doing in Jim's room? You weren't getting. . . *freaky* in there, were ya?"

Claire Nunez: "Gross! Why is *that* the first thing you think of?"

Issei Hyodo: "I'm a pervert. . ."

Claire Nunez: "That's no excuse!"

Jim Lake Jr: "Anyway. . . what are you doing here, Issei?"

Issei Hyodo: "Oh, Rias sent me to get you guys. We're all meeting up in the dining hall."

Claire Nunez: "Already? That was quick."

Issei Hyodo: "There wasn't a lot to see. You'll find out when you join us. And I promise I won't be listening to you two through the wall."

Claire Nunez: "Get out!"

With those words said, Issei left the room her face flushed a deep red.

Jim Lake Jr: "Let's go, Claire."

Claire Nunez: "Yeah. . . of course."

With that, Claire and Jim left the room and headed over to the dining hall to meet up with everyone else.
