There's No Time(Trial Six and Seven? Already?)
The room was quiet as a faint shudder passed through the remaining four survivors.
"We're dead," Chase whispered hoarsely. "We're so dead. One of us will go insane, and then we're gone. Poof. The lovers in the other mansion would probably laugh at our sorry state."
Cassie shivered slightly. "D-don't say that. We can figure this out."
"How?" Thane asked, surprisingly calm.
Everyone shrugged.
Wyatt coughed. "Let's just look at the clues already, OK? We have some evidence for Star's murder. Maybe Harmony's was done by the same person."
They nodded silently, disbanding to look around the murder scene. Cassie went over to Harmony's hanging body, taking her off the tree carefully and setting her down on the floor before reaching a shaky hand out and closing her eyelids.
Something fell out of Harmony's limp hand.
Wyatt frowned as he bent down slowly, unfolding the pink, crumpled piece of paper.
His eyes widened slightly at the note.
In scrawled, rushed cursive, there were notes on the trial.
Star: Murdered in music
Beethoven's 5th Symphony
Stabbed by bronze
0.9 mm shotgun
Belmont Enterprise gun?
Hair cut after murder
W y o t?
Wyatt frowned at the last message. The remaining ink had mixed in with the blood, the rest of the message unclear.
Clearly, she'd written the note right before her brutal death.
He flipped to the back of the page, breathing hitched as he read the note. In print that he'd seen Harmony use before, there were more notes.
Harmony: Murdered in peace
0.9 mm shotgun
Belmont Enterprise gun?
Check storage-metal chord
Cherry petals on tree?
Nailed before murder
Metal chord-many uses
Cassie walked over and visibly blanched. "She...she knew about her own death?"
Wyatt dropped the paper. "I don't know. This handwriting is hers. I know it for sure."
Cassie shook her head. "There's something bugging me. Let's go to the storage room she spoke of."
He nodded as he walked to the small shed and wiggled the knob.
It was locked.
Wyatt's eyes widened. "What!?"
The intercom buzzed and made a loud squeal. Dagger's voice came over the speakers. "Hmm...I need to get the intercom systems fixed after this. Anyway! It is now time for the Trials! Please make your way to the elevator on the first floor!"
Wyatt's eyes widened. "What!?"
Dagger laughed over the intercom. "You heard me! Get to the elevator!"
"We didn't get any time!" Cassie shouted. "You're staging us up to die!"
There was silence on the other end.
Wyatt cursed loudly as he threw the paper down. "I'm done with this asshole's crap!"
Dagger growled as he appeared. "See, here's the thing. You might be done with me, but I'm not done with you. Your despair is my addiction, and I have no plans on stopping it. And, unless you really don't value your life, you can't defy anything I say. This mansion is hardwired into my brain. Anything I want the mansion to have, it will appear. For once, I'm the boss of this place, and you can't stop me! My life has been nothing but listen to everything my boss says. See how I feel? See how I feel as his dummy? His henchman? It's the worst! Now, get in the damn elevator!"
Cassie blinked. "Jeez."
Dagger took a deep breath. "Whatever. Just, for the love of God, drag your ass to the elevator."
The two of them nodded silently, walking to the elevator.
Chase looked up from the corner of elevator, glancing quickly at Thane before looking back down. The two of them shifted uneasily as Wyatt walked into the elevator with Cassie, followed by Dagger.
The ride down was painful. No one dared speak, their heartbeats beating rapidly. Even Dagger, who usually wore a smirk, was quiet as he studied the buttons on his tuxedo.
When the elevator lurched to a stop, Dagger's stoic expression immediately changed, as if someone had switched on a button that made him smile. "Time for the trial, lovelies! Since I only allow one person to kill at a time, there's only one murderer in this case! You may start off with that beautiful tidbit of information."
Wyatt sighed, looking down. "Thank you, I guess? Anyway. I guess I'll start. What do we know?"
Chase scoffed. "Oh, I don't know. That AlterAssassin is dead, his daddy who probably knew some answers is dead, there's only four of us left, and we just lost two of our most valuable members?"
Dagger smiled innocently.
Cassie growled. "Don't you dare give us that face, Belmont."
Dagger chuckled. "What? Am I annoying you?"
Wyatt held up a hand. "Shut up. Let's start with Star's murder, since it was first. She was found dead on the piano. There was a line of roses, which the killer obviously made, and they'd cut her hair. Why, I have no idea."
Thane sighed and nodded. "Very true. Let's start with the way she was murdered. It was obviously the gunshot, right? We would've heard a struggle if she'd been murdered by the slit in her throat."
Chase slammed his hands on the table. "Exactly! And I found a gun in Wyatt's room! It must be him! He even has a knife with him!"
Wyatt shook his head. "That's wrong! I—"
"And when you found Star when her body was cut up, you were the only one in the ballroom! You were the closest to her!"
Wyatt opened his mouth to argue.
Thane cut him off. "Wyatt, I hate to treat you as an enemy, but as dumb as Chase is, he's right. You're the only one who fits for both Harmony and Star. You had the gun in your room, you were closest to both of them when the murders happened."
Cassie tilted her head. "About that. If Wyatt was the murderer, then how did he manage to shoot Harmony, tie her up, arrange the petals, and, assuming that his clothes got stained, clean up all before we ran upstairs?"
He sighed. "Let me speak, guys. I wasn't the murderer. I couldn't have done that all by myself. I was hanging out with a ghost."
"Ghost?"
Wyatt nodded. "Yeah. There was a child ghost that I found."
Thane sighed. "Whatever. That doesn't pertain to the story. What's your alibi?"
"I was sleeping before Star's murder. I heard the gunshots like everyone else and rushed up to investigate. We then investigated. I was in the garden, looking for clues, and when I got back, she'd been cut up. After you guys ran off, I heard the next gunshot, and I thought it was downstairs. Chase told me it was upstairs and we ran back up, finding Harmony. All of this happened so quickly. The time I was alone was short. There's no way I could shoot her and stage up something that detailed in the small time I had without getting caught."
Chase nodded slowly. "True..."
Wyatt bit his lip, thinking. "The only man that I can think of who has all this time to plant evidence and murder without anyone knowing...is you, Dagger Belmont!"
"I'd like to contradict."
Wyatt's eyes widened as he looked to the man sitting on the throne. "You!"
A cruel smile appeared on Dagger Belmont's face as he jumped off of the throne, walking up. "Let's make this little game more interesting, shall we? I'll participate in this trial as a witness. First of all, I heard there was a note that you guys found. Mind showing me?"
Thane blinked before handing him the paper slowly.
Dagger grinned as his eyes skimmed over the notes that Harmony had written. "Let's see. Star was stabbed by a bronze blade, removing any way of defense that she could've had. And, I can confirm two things. She was shot by a Belmont Enterprise gun, and that Wyatt's gun also belonged to my company. Here's the question." He turned his cold gaze to Wyatt.
Wyatt shuddered.
"How did you get the gun? There's only one place I can think of that you can access with enough resources."
His hands went cold, face blanching. "I...I...I used a key."
Chase's eyes widened. "Wh-where did you get a key? And why didn't you tell us about it?"
Wyatt looked down at his stand, silent.
Dagger crossed his arms. "And before I drive the last nail into the coffin, I'd like to make a few more statements. As to prove why I'm not the murderer, and why Wyatt's lying. Let's take a look at the note that dear Harmony left us again, shall we? True, her handwriting is different, but that's not important. The only person who could be capable of imitating her writing was Kiara, and she's already dead."
Chase nodded in agreement.
He pointed to the last line. "W...Y...O...and a T. Whose name is that the closest to?"
Wyatt protested. "That's so far fetched!"
Cassie nodded slowly. "I see how the O could've been an A before."
Dagger nodded. "And here's the one thing I'd like to question. Harmony wrote the words, 'check storage, metal chord.' It's true that there's a storage in my manse. But, Cassie. Wyatt immediately walked to the shed that was locked. How did he know it was a storage?"
Wyatt let out a choke. "It...it's not true!"
Cassie paled. "True..."
Thane turned to Wyatt. "How did you know it was a storage?"
Dagger smirked. "You don't even have to ask the murderer. It's so simple. He got the gun from the storage room, using the key."
Wyatt blanched as white as paper. "You...asshole. You...YOU'RE THE MURDERER, AREN'T YOU? YOU'RE FRAMING ME SO I DIE!" he screamed.
He ignored Wyatt's screams. "And how did he get the key?"
Cassie looked down in realization. "The...the ghost. He said he was hanging around with a ghost. The ghost must've given him the key. Since Harmony had multiple gunshots, the ghost could've helped him in the murder if they were friends. It won't sound if ghosts shoot the gun, right?"
Wyatt growled lowly.
Dagger clapped. "Exactly. And that, my friends, is why Wyatt Clark is the low-life murderer in this case!"
Wyatt clenched his fists as his eyes darted around desperately. "Y-you don't believe this, right, Chase? Thane? You have more common sense than this, right?"
Thane looked at him coldly. "I guess, since I think I know the most about this trial, I'll try my best to review what happened."
Wyatt paled as he backed up. "You're all idiots. You're falling for the tricks set up by the host who wants to kill us all."
Cassie closed her eyes. "Wyatt. Stop. Dagger's mouth might be spouting crap ninety-nine percent of the time, but his story and logic, for once, is more logical than yours. I'm sorry."
Wyatt let out an enraged shout.
Thane sighed. "That night, we all went to bed. That must've been when he met the ghost and got the key. He went to the shed and opened it, finding a storage room. The murderer probably grabbed the gun and hid in the storage as cover. When Star went into the ballroom to play piano, which was Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, he probably shot her, slit her throat and using the roses as a cover for the blood, before proceeding to run to his room and hiding the gun. The murderer knew that it would take us some time to get up completely and run, so they used that advantage to clean up any evidence before running with the group to the scene."
Wyatt threw his hands up. "Can't you see the plot holes in this story? CAN'T YOU SEE THE GODDAMN PLOT HOLES IN THIS STORY!?"
"They pretended to be just as shocked, and then stayed up with the body to slash it to bits. Harmony ran back up, and they used their ghost friend to shoot her death and set up the murder. We didn't hear it because it was a ghost who had shot her to death. The murderer fired the gun themselves and put the gun in the storage before running downstairs to pretend that they thought the gunshot was from downstairs. What they didn't realize was the fact that Harmony had a note in her hand, leading to their downfall."
Wyatt let out a scream. "YOU IDIOTS! ALL OF YOU! THIS STORY IS SET UP BY DAGGER GODDAMN BELMONT! WHY ARE YOU TRUSTING HIM!?"
"...and that murderer is you, Wyatt Clark!"
He froze and shook his head. "No. No. No no no no no no no no. I wouldn't do that. They were my friends! Why would I kill them? They helped me the most!"
Dagger smiled. "Because they had a secret you wanted to find out. You heard them in the dining hall. I have security footage." He made a rectangle with his thumb and index fingers, a screen showing of him hearing them behind the door of the dining hall."
Wyatt's mouth was wide open. "I would never think about murdering them," he whimpered, tears pricking up at his eyes.
Dagger sat back on his throne. "You're lying again."
Wyatt pointed at him. "Shut up!"
The host laughed insanely. "Alright! Please vote for who you think the murderer is!"
Wyatt's knees trembled as the three pulled their levers.
The slot machine spun, all three landing on the picture of Wyatt.
Wyatt closed his eyes. "You all guessed wro—"
"Correct! Wyatt Clark is, indeed the murderer of Star Lite and Harmony Devonte!"
Wyatt choked as the TV came down, his eyes darting around desperately as the haunting animation of his own sprite got dragged off by a Dagger sprite.
He glanced at the elevator.
He stepped back. "YOU SET ME UP! YOU'RE SAVING YOUR OWN ASS, DAGGER BELMONT! YOU FRAMED ME INTO THIS!"
Dagger smiled as he waved. "Toodles!~"
The chain came from behind him as it grabbed onto Wyatt's neck without warning.
Wyatt felt the cold metal clamp around his throat and tried to pry it off as he felt himself being dragged down the dark hallway, towards the Execution Chamber as he continued to scream at the top of his lungs. He saw the four dark silhouettes standing in place, fueling his struggle even more as he yelled.
"I WAS FRAMED! I WAS FRAMED!"
