Reminiscence Sucks

Wyatt blinked open his eyes groggily, his face, arms, and other limbs stinging from the bolts that dug into his skin.

He sat up, nose wrinkling at the smell as he lifted his hand off the open bag of trash.

There was a sudden thump next to him and he looked over in surprise.

Thane gagged before tossing a banana peel off to the side. "You OK?"

Wyatt nodded slightly, standing up. "How did you get here?"

Thane shrugged. "Jumped into the garbage chute. I'm so heroic."

"Where are the others?"

"They realized right after AlterAssassin appeared. So did I. We realized that you weren't the murderer. And while Dagger was screaming curses at the AI we split up. The others should be above the sewer opening in the trash room."

Wyatt smiled faintly, slightly touched at the fact that they were waiting for him. "Thanks so much."

Thane stood up, holding a hand out. "Let's go."

"Uh...Thane?"

"Yes?"

"You have a cup noodle bowl on your head."

Thane scowled and tossed it to the side before the two of them went to the long ladder that reached up to a faint opening of light at the top.

Wyatt grabbed the ladder nervously before he began to climb, Thane following closely behind.

The trip up was nerve-wracking. Wyatt felt his hands get clammier and clammier as he continued to go up, realizing that Thane's body and the mediocre pile of trash at the very bottom of the ladder were the only cushions that would break his fall if he were to lose his grip.

He slipped towards the top, yelping as his fingers grasped the rungs of the ladder by one hand.

Thane stopped climbing. "You OK?"

Wyatt let out a breath, trying to stop his pounding heart as he reached up with his other arm. "I'm good."

Wyatt felt a smile grow on his face as he climbed to the top of the ladder. The sewer hatch opened, revealing two other people reaching for his hands. Wyatt pulled himself out, sighing in relief.

Chase hugged him tightly. "You're actually alive!"

Cassie helped Thane up, removing a strand of ramen from his hair. "Was it bad down there?"

Thane shuddered. "It's the one place that fits Dagger's mood."

"It'd be better if you kinda stayed down there. You know, just to maybe, I don't know, rot?"

Wyatt stiffened and looked out to the dining hall, where Dagger was sitting on the table. His hair was disheveled, tie undone and shirt buttoned halfway. What could be seen under his shirt was pale skin and...bolts?

He tilted his head slightly. Dagger noticed his gaze and covered his chest up, buttoning his shirt quickly. "Damn. Never thought my roleplaying would make you gay."

Wyatt scowled. "That's not it!"

Dagger smirked. "Sorry. I'm taken."

Cassie crossed her arms. "What do you want, Dagger?"

Dagger smiled innocently. "See, the person who was supposed to get executed ended up not dying. And congrats! You actually passed my test. Now, it's time for Round Two. You know the answers already. Someone framed Wyatt pretty damn well, and you guys know that I'm lying. So, this will be our final trial!"

Chase blinked. "Final?"

The host nodded. "Here's the details. I'll give you one hour to investigate. During the trial, you're trying to prove two things. Prove me guilty and that's one roadblock gone. Your last objective is to uncover the secrets to this manse! Your time starts now!"

Wyatt blinked at the sudden announcement before Dagger laughed and left the room.

Cassie sighed quietly. "Another trial. Let's think like Star for a minute. What would she tell us to do?"

Thane sat down. "I have an idea. AlterAssassin was back, wasn't he? That means he's in the system. He'll provide with information. Another thing. Remember the notes that Harmony wrote before her death? That might help us find out what Harmony was trying to say."

Chase frowned. "So...we split up? Two of us go on the AI Quest and others decipher code?"

Wyatt nodded. "That sounds good. And if you pass any other clues make sure you include them."

Thane yawned. "I'll go with Chase and find AlterAssassin. Wyatt's been around Star the most, so he should know a few things. After all, he was the first one who found the note. And, of course, Cassie has been the one closest to her next to Star. She'll know her the best."

Chase smiled faintly. "Let's go make this host cry."

Wyatt split up with Cassie, the two of them walking to the library. He sat down in one of the desks, mentally cringing when he remembered that it was the same place where Erik had gotten hung up like a rag doll.

Cassie sat across from him. "Do you have the notes?"

Wyatt took the sheet out of his pocket and set it on the table. Cassie peered over at it. "There's already something wrong. Look at the two types of print on either side of the paper. One is scrawled and the other's in her normal writing. She was in hysterics at Star's death."

Wyatt nodded. "So the scrawled writing was most likely hers unless she got possessed and went calm, which she probably didn't."

Cassie smiled faintly. "So now we have one thing to prove against Dagger's claim that you killed her. And now, we just need to look at the facts of Star."

Wyatt looked over the scrawled side. "Murdered in music. Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. Harmony probably meant that she was playing the Fifth Symphony before she was killed."

Cassie nodded. "That makes sense. Next note."

"Stabbed by bronze."

"Bronze limits your ability to fight back."

"Zero point nine millimeter shotgun. Belmont Enterprise gun."

"He shot her after she couldn't move or even scream with his own gun. And only he knows where the guns are."

"Hair cut after murder."

"I don't know. Maybe it was just a calling card."

"W, y, o, t."

Cassie bit her lip.  "I still can't figure out that one."

Wyatt nodded. "The words are covered in blood. Another thing. I know where the guns are."

Cassie tilted her head. "How? Remind me?"

He closed his eyes. "Last time I told this story, Dagger called it off as sketchy and murdered me. But I'm telling you. I ran into a little child ghost who I'd met before. He led me to a skeleton key and then to a storage closet. I don't have the skeleton key anymore."

Thane and Chase suddenly ran in, breathless. "Wyatt! Cassie!"

Wyatt's eyes widened as he stared at the holographic figure next to them.

Cassie held her breath. "What..."

The two of them stared at the fifth member of their group.

Erik Killman smiled apologetically, waving a holographic hand. "Hey, guys. Long time no see."
