Is That Hope...?(Investigation and Trial Eight)
(Fitting song for our Finale to Dangan Ronpa: Dead by Dawn^)
Wyatt did nothing but stare in shock at the short hologram.
Erik scowled slightly. "I'm not a circus. Stop staring. Anyway. AlterAssassin— bless that program— managed to store backup power for me. He was using the excess power from every execution the minute I made him. He was also collecting data and memories from me to form me into the same person. Just, kinda not alive anymore. We're still trying to figure out a few more complications. Anyway, I'm back. And..." he smirked dangerously, "Man oh man, do I have some information for you all. It's check on Dagger Belmont."
A smile grew on Cassie's face. "You, my friend, have become the world's best midget."
Erik rolled his eyes as he jumped up, sitting on the bookcase behind them. "Anyway. Chase, show them the useful stuff."
Chase grinned as he set down a pile of newspapers.
Thane sat down. "Read them."
Wyatt's eyes skimmed over the first headline. "Belmont Enterprises becomes leader in military equipment production."
Cassie's eyes widened. "So the gun that Harmony was talking about. It's true, then. The gun is a product from his company. Only he would know where they were stored, besides Wyatt of course."
Thane nodded. "Read on. There's even more...shocking information."
Chase held up the second newspaper. "Billionare Greyson Belmont goes missing. Look at the picture of his manse that they put up."
Wyatt raised an eyebrow.
Erik tossed down a photo. "AlterAssassin used some control over Google Maps. This is the picture of the manse we're in right now."
Cassie picked it up. "The design is different..."
"Here's the next headline. Belmont CEO announces new construction plan. They put up a small picture of the blueprints. We used AlterAssassin to zoom it in."
Thane nodded. "The designs are the exact same as the manse we're in. Even the basement plans. Those are the plans for the Trial Room."
Wyatt whistled. "Sketchy."
Erik smiled and pulled out a laptop. "It gets sketchier, believe me."
Wyatt looked over at the next newspaper. "What's next?"
"Belmont Enterprises's CEO found dead in his ballroom. Girlfriend gone missing."
The room went silent.
Cassie took in a shaky breath. "D...dead? That makes no sense."
Erik closed his eyes. "Wyatt knows this. AlterAssassin's been surveying you via security camera. The day the cute little kid came in. I was hopeful that he was selling cookies or Dum-Dum Pops, but no, the kid's more than just that. Don't you remember what happened that night? The glass of water."
Chase scowled. "Wait. Wyatt never told us something!?"
Wyatt held his head. "I was scared. Besides, I didn't think it was that important..."
Thane sat back. "Well, it's sure as hell important now. We need it for the finale."
Wyatt nodded quickly. "Well...there was a man. And he...he slammed Dagger against the wall and said something about how the game wasn't fun to him. Dagger apologized. Really, he looked like he was afraid."
Erik nodded. "Exactly. Now, based on what AlterAssassin's telling me, it's about time for you guys to go."
Right on cue, the intercom buzzed and crackled. "Attention! Excluding one gay hologram, all of you go to the elevator please! It's time for the Final Trial! Um...I-I hope you have fun!"
Wyatt tilted his head. "He stuttered."
Thane closed his eyes. "That's because his boss is next to him, isn't that right?"
Erik scowled at the intercom message. "That's up for you guys to figure out. Unfortunately, Dagger's limited me at spilling secrets."
Cassie smiled. "Wait. If his boss appears then that means we'll know who it is. It's whoever's not here."
There was a faint tickle of air from behind Wyatt. Wyatt screamed and whipped around to face the giggling ghost.
R smiled shyly. "Hey."
From behind them, Erik stiffened slightly. "R. What are you doing here?"
"Accompanying my best friends."
"That makes no sense. You don't have friends."
"You don't have a girlfriend."
"I have a boyfriend!"
R smirked. "That's because no girls would want to date someone shorter and girlier than them."
Erik scoffed. "Says you. Brat."
The two of them glared at each other with malice until Chase laughed nervously. "Empty arguing."
"Shut up!"
"Yeah, shut up!"
Chase scratched the back of his neck nervously. "C-can we go?"
Cassie rolled her eyes as she walked down the hall, Thane following. Wyatt smiled faintly and caught up to them as Chase followed the group from behind, both Erik and R screaming at each other from either side of him.
The ride down the elevator was filled with tension. Sparks could almost be seen between the cold gazes among the ghost and the hologram.
The elevator came to a halting stop and the doors opened without sound.
Wyatt stepped out, looking around.
Dagger sat at the throne, alone. The other three looked around before making their way to the stands.
Dagger sat up. "Time for possibly our last Trial! You have two missions! It's pretty obvious from your gazes and Gay Hologram's information that you suspect me for the murder of Star Lite and Harmony Devonte! So, let's skip the accusations. Prove me to be the murderer! And, after you've done that, there's one more thing you must do. Tell me the secrets that lie behind this man. Who I am, what happened, and why I'm doing this."
Erik growled lowly.
Dagger smirked and rolled his eyes. "I never said that being gay was wrong. Wyatt's gay for me so I know how it feels."
Wyatt growled. "I'm not gay for you!"
"That's what you think, Clark! Now. Let us start this trial, shall we?"
Wyatt looked around, blinking when he realized R had disappeared. Strange. The little ghost had been so heated up with his argument. In the blink of an eye, he'd disappeared.
Thane looked up. "First clue to proving Dagger guilty."
Cassie took out a bloody sheet of paper. "Harmony's notes are all we need. First of all, the backside that we thought was also hers is fake. The culprit must've copied her writing. Enough to make it look passable for hers."
Dagger raised an eyebrow. "But that's her normal handwriting, isn't it? The scrawled cursive doesn't even remotely resemble her handwriting!"
"No, that's wrong!"
Dagger gritted his teeth together. "Do explain."
Wyatt pointed to the paper. "True, that's Harmony's handwriting. However, after Star's death, she was in hysterics. There's no way she would've written this note that calmly. And, if it was right before her death, then it would've been more rushed towards the end. And that's exactly what we see here. Nobody here could've copied her writing this good except for Kiara. And she's gone. Which leaves you, who probably knows his guests the most."
At the mention of Kiara, Erik winced slightly and turned to face a corner, hand over his chest.
Dagger ignored Erik and shook his head. "What about Cassie? Cassie was the second closest to Harmony besides Star."
Cassie laughed. "Have you seen my writing? It's awful."
Chase nodded. "Besides. If she was the murderer then she wouldn't have been that calm either."
Dagger sighed. "Alright. Continue."
"The next two points. A shotgun from Belmont Enterprises."
Dagger scowled. "I don't own a company named Belmont Enterpri-"
"No, that's wrong!"
The host's eyes flashed red as he stood up, holding a knife in both hands as he walked off his throne and towards his audience. "You don't interrupt me."
A man stepped out from behind Dagger's throne.
"One more step towards your lovely guests and I'll kill you."
