The New Base

I set off with Kazuki and Nise, exiting the townhouse complex to look at bigger places, as Toki instructed.

"So, Mimoto-san... do you really not have anywhere to go back to?" Kazuki asked, looking concerned.

Nise shook her head, looking at the ground. "N-no, I don't... I-I hope I'm not a burden though, I'll try to be useful!"

"Don't worry about that, of course we'll let you stay with us for now. I'm sure you won't be a burden." Kazuki responded with a small smile. "What we're doing won't be the safest, but we'll keep you as secure as we can."

"Y-you're too nice... thank you." Nise said with a small smile. "Um, I-I'm sorry, what was your name again?"

"It's fine, I'm Kazuki Nozomi." He replied.

"Hey, how's that one?" I butted in, pointing at a house in front of us.

Kazuki looked at it for a moment. "Looks fine from here, but let's check."

The three of us made our way towards the house, approaching it with caution. I walked up to the door first, opening it quickly with my hacking gun up and ready. Nothing happened, and I took a careful step inside. Kazuki and Nise followed me in, and we began looking around the house.

From the outside, it seemed like a nice, big house. Inside, however, it appeared really run down. Pieces of the floor were missing, furniture was all flipped over, and a few windows were smashed.

"Okay... maybe not." I said sheepishly, shaking my head. "Let's move on..."

We looked at a few more houses on the street, but most were in the same conditions or even worse. We weren't having any luck, until a voice came from the walkie talkie.

"We found a place! It's so nice and big and amazing!" Mai exclaimed.

Kazuki lifted the device, holding it close to his face and pressing the button to talk. "Where is it?" He asked.

"Better question, are you sure it's secure?" Toki jumped in.

"Yup! 100%! I think..." Mai replied. "It'll definitely fit us all!"

"Alright, then tell us the location and everyone will be there." Toki said.

"You're kidding me..." I muttered, standing in front of the location Mai and Willow found. It wasn't a house, but a full blown mansion. Its design was large and intricate, with a tall gate surrounding the yard.

"I-it's huge..." Nise said from beside me, looking a bit intimidated.

Kazuki approached the gate, pushing it open. "Well, let's go in." He said, leading the way inside.

We walked down the path to the front door, and once entering the house I saw it looked even bigger on the inside. The room was very spacey, and right in front of me was a large spiral staircase.

"Hey! Over here!" I turned around to see Mai beckoning me over from the hallway, and I followed her, Nise sticking close to me. She led us over to what appeared to be a living room, with two couches facing each other and a coffee table in the middle. On the other sides were two big, comfortable looking chairs.

Willow was sat on one of the couches, and Mai quickly plopped down next to her. It looked like we were the first group to join them. I sat at the opposite couch with Nise and Kazuki.

"I can't believe you found a mansion..." Kazuki muttered in disbelief.

"It's kind of hard to miss." Willow said with a shrug. "I was just surprised it's in such good condition."

"W-well, it's really nice!" Nise said, "Th-thank you for letting me stay...."

"It'd be pretty evil to just throw you out to the Monokumas." Mai pointed out.

Soon, Toki entered the room, and everyone looked to her. She pushed her hair out of her face before sitting next to Kazuki. "I'd prefer something that stands out a little less, but I suppose this is fine for now." She said with a shrug.

"Where's Uyeda-kun?" I couldn't help but ask.

"He's checking out the place, probably mapping out all our escape routes." Toki answered, "In his head, of course. He doesn't care enough to write anything down."

I nodded. "Okay... so, how are we going to track down this... um... you never actually said his name." I said to Toki.

The black haired girl looked away. "There's a reason we don't say it."

Kazuki shook his head. "She's not here now, so we should tell Ikeda-chan... she should at least know who she's hunting down."

"Like usual, you're right, Kazuki-kun..." Toki let out a small sigh. "His name's Michio Zetami... you may have heard about him. Just don't say his name around Satchiko...."

"M-Michio... Zetami..." I muttered, my eyes growing wide. I felt pure fear rising through my body, my heart pounding in my chest.

"Ikeda-chan... Are you okay?" Kazuki asked, a concerned look on his face.

My hands clenched to fists as repressed memories came flushing back to the surface. I bit my lip, quickly shaking my head. "Y-yeah... sorry... d-don't worry about it...."
