Solving the Case

"I was waiting for someone to bring that up." Toki said, looking around at all of us. "A suicide is very possible, but it could also be the killer making it look like a suicide. We need more evidence to come to a conclusion." She then paused, glaring at Chou. "Maybe it'd be solved by now if we just had more time."

"Ooh, scary!" Chou laughed a bit. "Okay, maybe I didn't give you enough time, but there's no going back now!"

"B-but... I saw her." Nise said quietly. "L-last night I saw Fujikawa-san walk into the s-storage room...."

"So maybe it was a suicide..." Katashi muttered. "I mean, she did lose both her children, it isn't much of a stretch..."

"I'm not sure about this. It seems too obvious." Toki stated, then let out a sigh. "But sometimes the answer is obvious, I suppose."

I didn't feel too good about this, but I stayed quiet. Reiko's death did look like a classic suicide, and I couldn't put my finger on what was wrong.

"Is that your conclusion?" Chou asked with a small smirk, and most people nodded.

A moment passed before a large grin spread across Chou's face. "Congratulations! You get to go free, Kimiko!"

I stood still as fear crept into my mind. We were wrong...? But how'd Kimiko do it?

"Yes!" Kimiko exclaimed with a smile. "Wow, I was pretty scared for a while, but you were all wrong!"

"Do you mind explaining how you did it?" Toki asked calmly.

Kimiko nodded. "Alright! So you were pretty close saying suicide, it was kinda assisted suicide. Fujikawa was in on it. I got the rope from the storage room and she got the chair. When she was standing on it I pushed her off, and when I knew she was dead I knocked down the chair and just pretended to be surprised when people came out." Kimiko paused for a moment, smiling at Yukiko. "Yuki knew too. Did you guys really forget about being able to take someone with you? Next time don't just let someone go because one person was with them."

"That's right..." Kazuki sighed. "Last time everyone but the killer would die if we were wrong, so I didn't even think about people working together...."

"So, Kimiko Nakahara, who are you taking with you?" Chou asked.

"Yuki, of course!" Kimiko exclaimed. "I did this all for her! We're gonna run away and be happy together!"

Satchiko stepped off of her stand, walking around to Yukiko. She pulled her sister in for a hug, and when they separated, she had a small smile on her face. "Be safe out there, Yukiko... you should find the Future Foundation, that's where Ryuji is."

Yukiko nodded. "Okay... don't you dare die in here, Satchi!"

Chou reached behind her chair and pulled out a circular board with an arrow on it, with little cartoon faces of all of us painted on. Daiki and Reiko were crossed out with pink x's, and Chou took out a marker to draw circles around Kimiko and Yukiko.

"Alright, now to decide who I'm gonna punish!" The mastermind stated before spinning the arrow. I felt extremely fearful as I watched it go around, knowing that whoever it stopped on would be unfairly executed. Finally, it ended on a familiar face.

Koichi Nozomi.

"No!" Kazuki immediately called out. "That's not fair, he did nothing wrong! Don't kill him!"

I felt a stab of sympathy for Kazuki as he desperately pleaded. At least I didn't have to watch Akio die... and he was actually executed for a reason. I had become friends with Koichi, and knew that he was a genuinely good person. He didn't deserve this at all.

"Too bad, the spinner chose him!" Chou exclaimed with a grin. "Go on, say your goodbyes so I can kill him."

Kazuki ran to his brother and hugged him tight, which Koichi returned. The soon to be victim looked absolutely terrified and his eyes were wide and watery.

"N-no... th-this isn't happening, right...?" Itsuki stuttered, eyes wide. When Koichi separated from his brother, the other brunet took his place, hugging the boy. "Ko... I-I need you! Don't leave me!"

"I don't want to... I'd never leave you willingly..." Koichi said quietly, hugging Itsuki back. "Please be okay without me, you've dealt with this on your own before, right?"

"B-but it was terrible! Out of control!" Itsuki exclaimed, then paused for a moment, his expression becoming calm yet saddened. "I'll try my best... I'm gonna miss you...."

Before Koichi could reply, Chou grabbed him by the shoulders and pulled him back. I was surprised, as I hadn't even seen her get up. She quickly slit Koichi's throat with a small knife, resulting in a few screams.

Chou dropped the boy's now dead body to the floor with a small shrug. "I'll make the executions more interesting when it's the actual killer. You'll just have to deal with regular old stabbing and cutting for now."

And like that, the number of trapped people went down by three. If we didn't know how serious this was before, we sure knew now.
