Secrets
I stared at the wall blankly, the image of Itsuki's death still fresh in my mind, although a day had passed. This didn't hurt as much as losing my parents and brother, but piling it on wasn't making anything better. Itsuki was my friend, a good friend, even if I didn't have a chance to know him long.
A light knock on my door pulled me from my daze, and reluctantly, I got up to answer. "What do you want...?" I muttered before fully opening the door, revealing Nise standing there.
"U-um... Chou's getting impatient... d-didn't you hear the announcement?" She asked, fidgeting with the sleeves of her grey sweater.
I gave a small nod. "Do I have to go? Her stupid announcements only ever make everything worse..."
"I-I know..." Nise replied quietly. "But s-she says you have to come..."
"Fine..." I sighed, knowing there was no disobeying Chou. It was annoying, really, but I still couldn't completely hate her. Something is definitely wrong with me.
With Nise by my side, I walked out and down the hall before entering the main room. Eight. That's all that was left, and I couldn't help but feel the room was empty. Half of us had died, of course it was.
I looked up at the screen to see Chou's face, her golden eyes staring down at us. I felt chills run down my spine at how excited she looked, that couldn't mean anything good.
"Glad you could finally join us, Akira-chan~!" Chou exclaimed with a smile. "I have some great news for you all! I'm making this game even more exciting!"
"Already? Two people just died yesterday." Katashi pointed out with a frown. "You can't be plotting something so soon..."
"Oh, but I am!" Chou laughed a bit. "My time is limited, I set a date after all, plus all these attempts to hack me are ridiculously annoying. So yes, I'm pushing this faster!"
"Set a date...?" Mai tilted her head slightly.
Chou ignored her and continued. "You see, so many of you are such dirty liars! All those secrets, big and small, so much ammunition for me!"
"Secrets?" Tomi narrowed his eyes. "Are you saying-"
"Yes! I'll be revealing someone's secret every day until a death happens!" Chou replied before he could even finish. "Won't that be fun?"
"You wouldn't..." Nise muttered, eyes widening.
"Oh, but I would." Chou snickered. "But I'll be nice today and reveal something about myself instead of you. This'll be sure to cause some drama."
"Then, go ahead. What is it?" Toki crossed her arms, looking mildly interested.
"Well, I did say everyone here is related to someone in the seventy ninth class, and that includes me too!" Chou started, then paused for a moment, her grin expanding. "My full name is Chouko Kobayashi~."
"Kobayashi?" Katashi let out a small gasp. "What's that supposed to mean?!"
"That's my secret. Whelp, bye!" Chou giggled, and the screen flickered off.
I had the same feelings inside of me that I knew everyone else must have had, as all eyes turned to Satchiko. Chou could've been making it up, of course, but what if she was telling the truth? Could she actually be related to such a nice person?
"Satchiko... do you know her?" Kazuki hesitantly asked. "Are you... related?"
Satchiko quickly shook her head. "N-no! I couldn't... I-I mean, she could be, but no!" She paused for a moment, and as everything sunk in, her blue eyes went wide. "I... I never did meet my cousin... a girl, a year younger than me..."
"You didn't meet your own cousin?" Toki gave her a confused look.
"My dad wouldn't let me be around his brother, so no..." Satchiko replied in a shaky voice. "But how..."
"Hey, Satchi, she could be lying for all we know." Katashi spoke with a comforting tone, slipping his hand into hers. "I'm sure she just wants to get a reaction out of you."
"I-I guess..." Satchiko muttered.
I couldn't help but have a very bad feeling about all of this.
