From the nickname, I could tell this was Eiichi, although at the moment it didn't really matter to me. I stepped aside to let him into my room before closing the door, all the while staring at him in shock.
"Eiichi-kun... what did you do?" I asked quietly, and he stared at the floor.
Eiichi's eyes were watery and he seemed to have trouble gathering his thoughts into words. "I-I... I didn't mean... I didn't w-want to... i-it just happened..." he sniffed, "I don't want Aki to hate me..."
I took in a deep breath and gave him my best small smile. "I'd never hate you, I just want to know what happened." I spoke slowly, my eyes drifting back towards the blood.
Eiichi was quiet for a moment, until he finally spoke. "S-she came too close when I wanted to b-be alone... s-so I hit her... then she started y-yelling at me..." he paused to sniffle and wipe his years. "I d-didn't wanna do that... but th-there was an axe, and..."
"Who?" I asked nervously, but took a step forward. "Who did you hurt...?"
Eiichi stayed quiet, and it wasn't long before his expression changed and became blank. I didn't know how to feel, the boy who had just hurt someone wasn't responding to me.
"Eiichi...?" I prompted, and he met my gaze.
"Eiichi?" He repeated. "Did he tell you?"
"Itsuki-kun...?" I tilted my head a bit, unsure.
"Yeah, we'll just go with that." He responded, waving me off. Well that's not suspicious. "How much did he say?"
"That he... hurt someone... a girl." I muttered, and a sudden realization washed over me. Could he have killed someone? That would mean that regardless of the outcome, another person would die. Well shit.
"Fuck... well I guess you already know now, no use hiding it." 'Itsuki' let out a sigh.
"I don't think I've ever heard you swear before..." I muttered, only for him to brush me off.
"You're going to keep quiet about this, Ikeda. We're alone right now, if you don't swear your silence I can kill you without anyone knowing." Itsuki spoke harshly, shocking me to the core. Something was very wrong.
"What's gotten into you...? Why are you being so-" I stopped when those amber eyes narrowed to a glare, and I took a step back. "I-I won't say anything... um... on one condition."
Itsuki looked annoyed, but nodded anyways. "What is it?"
"If you get out of here..." I took a deep breath. "Don't take me with you."
"What...?" The boy appeared completely confused, like he had expected the opposite. "Why? Don't you wanna get out of here?"
"I do... I really do, but... there's nothing for me out there. I dunno, maybe there is here... when I leave I want it to be with everyone." I shook my head. "Take Kobayashi instead, so she can be with her siblings."
"Okay, sure, whatever. Don't get all sappy on me and help me hide some evidence." Itsuki turned around and walked out the door. Reluctantly, I followed him.
He led me down to the end of the hall, and opened the door to the storage room. I was greeted with a sight that made me instinctively recoil. Laying sprawled out on the floor was the bloody corpse I wished I hadn't had to see.
We hadn't been getting along recently, and though she almost straight up accused me of being the traitor, I still couldn't help but respect and look up to her.
Aimi Hoshiko hadn't deserved to die like this.
