Side: Future 2: Hang The Witch
Okay...
WHO ELSE IS EXTREMELY PISSED WITH THIS EPISODE!?
This is just... Too much for me...
Okay, let's just take it slowly.
First off, the opening has been changed. The characters are now colored, but without their faces.
What does THAT mean now? I have no clue, so I'm not touching it.
Okay the title here. "Hang The Witch". I have an idea what it means, I'll say at the end.
It's very nice that the anime, or I guess Monokuma, explains the rules for us. This time, it seems very unique, not just 'kill to leave' but 'kill to live'.
But first, let me just say. Spike Chunsoft? This is unique, but VERY similar to your Zero Escape rules. Bracelets? With sleeping drugs administered after a period of time? That also give poison doses? And the poison is given if you break a rule or you try to take the bracelet off? Come on, guys. Get more creative.
That said, what is up with the forbidden actions? Are they there to kill them off faster or make it harder to find the traitor and/or attacker? Though, they seem kinda... suspicious. Will they change after each sleeping drug dose or are they constant? Cause if they're constant, Makoto's got a problem if the building's exploding and they need to run out of there.
Another question, is the attacker the same as the traitor? Does the traitor pick an attacker to wake up first? Or is the traitor the attacker?
Also, is the attacker the same each time or picked each time? Because whoever was the attacker for this round needs to PAY BIG TIME!
Kyoko seems a bit shocked at her forbidden action. Based on what we have so far, we have 3 good possibilities.
1. She can't leave the room. She doesn't run off with Hina and Makoto, so she may be stuck in the meeting room. Again, if this is a constant, this will be a serious problem.
2. She's not allowed to investigate. That would explain her shock and worry. She knows that they'll have to investigate Chisa's death to find the true killer and prove her boyfr- I mean Makoto innocent.
Speaking of which, NOBODY TALKS ABOUT CHISA! The heck!? Just cover her body and disregarded the whole time. Not even Kyosuke gives a fuck about her, just about who he immediately suspects.
And 3. She's not allowed to talk to Makoto or not talk to the Class 78 members. Makoto, Hina, Hiro.
Speaking of which, I'm going to state something that most people agree on now. Hiro's not a part of the killing game. The bracelet in the opening is the one he's been wearing since the first game. Which could be good, as he is currently out of danger, unless the blowing up of the building has caused anything. Anyway, moving on.
It it just me or does Seiko look like she's a been sad or worried or scared of her own forbidden action? Just based off the eyebrows.
And our lovely little lady Usami FINALLY comes back! Oh, how I've missed her! I always hated how she was forced to be called Monomi in SDR2.
But, this brings up a point. Is she speaking for Miaya or is she an AI speaking for herself and Miaya will speak differently?
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand she's Monomi again. Fuck.
How did Monokuma hack into Miaya's computer? Doesn't that mean he'll be able to stop anything that Miaya will try to do on her computer that attempts to help them out?
Sonosuke is refusing the candy!? Is that his forbidden action or is he just being serious?
Damn, Kyoko's getting her investigation on! What's with the door? Do you guys see anything? I can't see any marks.
Nice of Daisaku to check the hallways and stuff. So, there really is now way out. Which means Hiro has no way in? I saw someone say that they think Hiro's gonna go get the Ultimate Despair, or more likely their woken and healed selves, and have them bust them out of the Future Foundation. It's possible, but not likely. Hiro IS listed as a main character, so I want to know what his role is in this arc.
Okay, as levelheaded and positive as Makoto is, I can't agree with him on this point. Monokuma and/or the person controlling him is not going to let you get away with just locking them up, even if they AREN'T an insane or evil person.
Hina instantly backed down from Juzo's aggression and then looked at her bracelet. Does her forbidden action have something to do with that?
Okay, Ryota just tries to say that violence against women is bad, and Juzo knees him in the gut. Is this guy gonna be the new giant prick? Looks like it, from this episode.
And another person killed not even ten minutes in. Well, at least he was someone I thought I wasn't going to like that much. This is basically Hifumi's death all over again. We don't really care TOO much, but still feel really sad about it.
Seiko rushes over and pours some kind of drug in his mouth, but he's dead. This says a few things. Seiko seems to care about her fellow Future Foundation members, she seems to have prescription meds on hand, and she seems to be able to stay calm in times of emergency.
Okay, can we just acknowledge how Great Gozu puts his hand over his heart after Seiko announces that Daisaku dead? He's awesome.
Anyone else find it hilarious how during this whole scene, Ruruka is just clinging to Sonosuke's arm? That's pretty funny to me. You think her forbidden action is that she can't get too far from him?
Okay, this is a bit stupid. Even Kyoko should know that EVERYONE SHOULD JUST SAY THEIR FORBIDDEN ACTIONS! If someone's is that they can't reveal it, then they should just say "Sorry, I can't/won't. This is dumb!
"Majority vote"? Fuck that! It's obvious who they're all going to vote for! This is rigged!
Okay, Koichi is awesome. I don't know why, but when he does this, I really love it.
And Ryota and Great Gozu abstain. More points to them!
Unsurprisingly, they vote Makoto. Now Kyosuke says to kill himself. Popularity goes down.
Ryota defends Makoto. That's nice. I'm starting to like him at this point.
GO GO GREAT GOZU! God damn, this guy BREAKS A KNIFE WITH HIS BARE HAND! This guy is the new badass of the group!
How does Kyosuke's sword just come out of thin air? Nobody going to comment on that?
Smart move, Kyoko. Fire extinguisher smoke screen. Good job.
Alright! Great Gozu and Miaya are on Makoto's side! I guess so is Ryota. Sweet! We got a new team of awesome characters that are going to die!
Makoto can't run in the halls? Dammit, Taka's haunting him from beyond the grave! ...I'm sorry...
Glad to see that even in life or death scenarios, DR can still give humor.
Kyoko's thinking about Makoto! *cue the shipping squeals*
Why the hell is Kazuo talking about violence out of nowhere? It's a good lesson, but seems out of left field. Was he warning her? Kyoko doesn't seem like the type to use violence at all.
Okay, I REALLY like Ryota now! He's the new cinnamon roll! I feel like he's a bit like Taka mixed with Chihiro. He likes to follow the rules, but is a total cinnamon roll about it.
Great Gozu is fucking awesome, man. "I won't kill my allies, even if it costs me my life!" This guy is so cool and awesome!
"So despair must be eliminated for certain. No matter how many must die. That is what I swore!"
...What!
Who did he swear this to!? Himself? Chisa? Juzo? Future Foundation? I feel like this is important.
HOLY SHIT! Great Gozu just smashed the floor! This guy is crazy cool!
Now Great Gozu is carrying him. And not even slowed down a bit. This guy's like Nekomaru on steroids.
So, Kyosuke stops chasing them and looks at his bracelet. So, is his forbidden action he can't open doors? That seems like a big hindrance.
I really want to know what Ruruka is talking about. "Both she and Hope's Peak Academy are the same as the Future Foundation. Rotten to the core." Now, we know that something happened between Ruruka and Seiko. They clearly distrust each other, but Ruruka has been the one to mostly talk about how she distrusts Seiko. I want to know what happened.
Also, I get why she would say Seiko is rotten, and perhaps why HPA is rotten, most likely from the tragedy or the Ultimate Despair, but why would Future Foundation be rotten? We're getting a lot of question off of the things people say in this arc.
I ship it.
Sorry, PokemonRio
Okay, real quick, I watched this episode with two of my friends. At this part, one of them said that they thought she was going to touch his dick, and that is too funny to not bring up.
Man, it's really sad seeing Hina be sad... Good thing the Ultimate Hope is there to cheer her up.
Okay, THIS was the moment where Great Gozu REALLY made me love the guy. He is one of my favorites now. The stuff he says in this scene really touched my heart. And I think it's really interesting how he saw the broadcast. Do you think that the entire Future Foundation saw the broadcast? Imagine what they thought during the shower scene!
I find Juzo and Kyosuke's relationship intriguing. Juzo seems to respect and support Kyosuke, and it seems they are both very actively hostile towards Makoto because they suspect he killed Chisa. They want to avenge her, and I think that's something interesting. They genuinely care about her death, and want to avenge her by killing her killer. Wrong thing for the right reason. Bit dickish, but still, you can't blame them. You'd probably do something similar if you were in their shoes. Answer honestly. What would you do if one of your best friends that you knew for most of your life was murdered and you suspect someone? In this scenario at least.
For the day...
For the day...?
FOR THE DAY!?
Okay, so I think I get it! The meeting happened late, you see the sky being dark, so the bracelets take effect once it gets late! Maybe it's morning when they wake up and the bracelets will say like 10 or 12 hours instead of 2. Just a hunch, though.
Okay... Now for the hard part of the episode...
MY PRECIOUS DONUT LOVING WAIFU IS DEAD!!!!!!!!
This was so hard for me... I just... Damn. I can barely handle this.
So, I have a lot to say about this death, but first, let me apologize to MarissaMelody
I got you into the DR fandom. For you, you've known Hina for like a few months or something now. I've known her for at least a year, so this crushes me, but for you, you just got to know her and now she's dead.
Actually, I have a lot to say about her body. Many points, so THEORY TIME!
1. Great Gozu blocked the door, so either Makoto, Gozu, or Miaya killed Hina. Or she killed herself, but that seems unlikely based on the position of the body and the next point.
2. The blood. The blood is very suspicious. Using my knowledge of stab wounds from Ace Attorney, the real problem is the knife and the puddle beneath her. When someone is stabbed, they don't lose blood immediately. They lose the most blood when the blade is REMOVED, because the blade sort of keeps the blood inside the body. When it's removed, the blood starts pouring out, so with the knife still inside Hina, she should not have that much blood lost. Her shirt I could believe, but not that pile. Which brings me to the puddle. The puddle is BENEATH her. Do you see a trail leading from the knife down her sides to the puddle? This could mean she is bleeding out of her back, but is the knife that long? Also, even if the knife IS that long, it being inside her should not let that much blood out. Unless she was stabbed once, the knife was pulled out, and then stabbed back in, this makes no sense. But, unless they wanted to confuse the crime scene, this tactic makes no sense whatsoever, so there is a VERY SLIM chance that Hina is alive and just very injured from being stabbed. She could live with a LOT of medical care, but that's just a slim chance. She might not even be alive.
3. Her face. Why are her eyes covered? This doesn't make me think she's alive, just something very suspicious.
Okay, now that THAT is out of the way, I can say my 2 theories for Hina's killer.
The theories are actually very different. One where this body is really Hina, and one where it's not her, but Miaya. Let's start with that one.
I noticed during this episode that Hina has the same colored eyes as Miaya. Perhaps the attacker killed Miaya and swapped her clothes with Hina, and then if the forbidden actions change every day, her action will be that she's forced to not reveal her identity. Of course, this is a long shot, and there's a few holes. Breast size, skin color, Hina may not know how to work Miaya's computer chair. Stuff like that. For who killed her though, would have to be either Makoto or Great Gozu, due to the locked room, and I doubt Makoto would kill her, so Great Gozu? But he doesn't seem like he would kill someone after that big speech and fight he had in this episode.
Now for the dead Hina theory. Unfortunately, this one also comes to Great Gozu, as Miaya may have an alibi. Hina was sitting against the wall when she fell asleep, so the killer moved her body. Earlier in the episode, Miaya moved her head to avoid being touched by Hina. Could her forbidden action by to not touch or be touched by other participants? If that's true, she couldn't move Hina's body, unless the forbidden actions hadn't changed yet. That leaves the Great Gozu, but I don't know why he would. Still, it's just a theory.
Now, before I end the chapter, I have to say why I think this episode is called "Hang The Witch"
This is not referring to Hina's death, or Kyoko being hung in the opening, or Chisa's death on the chandelier, which would make no sense. The title refers to Makoto and Kyosuke.
When the group wanted to find Chisa's killer, they mostly all suspected Makoto, Kyosuke saying he should kill himself, and then him and Juzo attacking him.
Death by suspicion. What connection does that have with hanging a witch? The Salem Witch Trials.
The witch trials were where people suspected of being witches were burned or drowned, thinking that if they died, they were human. It seems dumb, but this is a very famous historical event, most likely where the phrase "Burn the witch!" came from.
This is the same thing. Kyosuke and a few of the others suspect Makoto of being the traitor, or the "witch" in this case, and Kyosuke and Juzo try to kill him, or "hang" him in this case. Death by suspicion.
Well, that's pretty much all I have to say about this episode. Despair arc continues in a few days, but I don't think even THAT is going to help us get over this. Out of ALL the deaths in Danganronpa, Taka, Sakura, Ibuki, Mikan, Gundam, Chiaki, Yuta, Taichi, and just recently Chisa. THIS is the one that gets us the hardest. THIS is the one we will NEVER get over. The only thing that can help us now is next's week's episode, where maybe we'll get closure or something will happen. Despair arc will get us to smile until then.
For now, that's it. This is Emerald-kun, signing out. Peace!
