Chapter One: The Hopeful Meeting in the City- Part One
I rubbed my head as I sat up. Another morning, another day stuck in this stupid room.
It had all started one morning when I was awoken by my alarm. I grabbed my clothes and got in my schools uniform, a plain, white long-sleeved shirt, black pants, green school tie, and a pair of shiny, black shoes.
As I ran to the door, I found the knob wouldn't turn, no matter what I did to open it. I screamed and beat on the door, but nothing worked. After almost ten minutes of trying to get the door open, I felt dizzy. I lumbered back to my bedroom and collapsed on my bed.
The next day when I woke up I noticed the curtains that cascaded down behind a cream colored couch in the main room.
I parted the black and white curtains and found a metal covering to the window, preventing any of us from seeing the outside world. "So... I'm stuck here." I said aloud. A tray of food sat on the table that evening.
The third day, I decided to explore my new confines. Starting with my room, I found a closet that held a change of clothing in it.
A plain, green hoodie, a black shirt with some pop band on it (it was an all girl pop band with a dark-haired girl on it, I don't know her name but I know she's very popular), a pair of blue jeans, and a pair of green converse. I found something horrifying behind the rack of clothes. A camera.
The fourth day I explored the bathroom. There wasn't much in it either. Just a toilet, a shower, and a sink. But, I found another camera facing away from the shower. At least I have SOME privacy.
The fifth day I checked out my kitchen. The refrigerator was definitely old, with the hinges squeaking every time you opened it. Inside was a bunch of cans of carbonated coffee. I grabbed one and looked at it. "Kuma Karbonated Koffee..." I read out loud. I saw a little mascot on it. The thing was super weird, it was like this bear with a line down its face, one side was white and the other was black. The white side looked relatively normal, while the black side had a large, toothy grin and a jagged red eye.
The fridge also had a weird canned soda called Krazy Krush. There appeared to be multiple flavors. Lemon Lime, which pictured a young girl, or maybe it was a boy, I couldn't tell. They had medium-length hair and eyes the color of honey. "Krazy Krush- Fujisaki's Lemon Lime..." I said aloud. I looked at the rest. Ishimaru's Grape, Ikusaba's Cola, Oogami's Root Beer, Kuwata's Orange, Maizono's Cotton Candy, Enoshima's Strawberry, Oowada's Blackberry, Yamada's Apple, and Celes's Black Cherry.
I grabbed a can of Maizono's Cotton Candy and looked at the girl on the can. She had blue hair and bright blue eyes. A bedazzled pink bow sat in her hair and a sparkly pink dress flowed to her knees. "She's the girl from my spare shirt..." I mumbled.
The fifth day I explored the main room. There wasn't much to it. Just the cream colored couch, a mahogany table, and another camera perched in the corner of the room.
The sixth day, I did nothing. I stared at the ceiling and thought about everything I knew. "I'm Aisho Tatsuo." I said aloud. "I'm stuck in some weird apartment room." I tried thinking back on what I could remember before this horrid thing happened, but I couldn't. Every time I'd try, I'd develop a migraine.
Every day that week, a tray of food would appear. One in the morning. One around noon. Another before it was night, I'm guessing.
The seventh day finally arrived. Now, I don't even care about that stupid school uniform. I grabbed the hoodie and threw it on. I didn't even bother with the tie. I threw the shoes in the back of my closet and grabbed the converse.
I walked into the pathetic kitchen I was given. It was roughly the size of a kitchenette, or part of a kitchen. It only had a small refrigerator, microwave, and an island. I had never noticed it, but beside the refrigerator was a set of four knifes. Instead of investigating them, I grabbed one of the several small cans of Kuma Karbonated Koffee.
Walking back into the main room, I flopped down on the couch. The apartment I was in wasn't very big. It only had a small bedroom, a small room, which only had a couch and table, a bathroom, and the kitchenette. Obviously, the door was still shut, keeping me from finding anything.
I looked up and saw the curtains covering the glass windows. Wait, the windows... the metallic cover is gone! I jumped up and placed my hands on the glass, looking around outside. I saw a large park outside with some playground equipment in it. Sitting in one of the swings was a guy with black hair with pink and blue stripes. He was talking to a girl with bright red hair and a short sleeved blue shirt.
I was shocked out of my thoughts as I heard a knock on my door. I turned and ran to it. I threw it open and came face to face with a short girl. She had brown hair that fell to her shoulders, a bright pink shirt with a white flower design and bright green pants. She had brown boots that seemed to have a small amount of dirt on them.
"Hey... I'm Akiko Akiyama." She said, holding out her hand. Putting my hand in her's, I shook it. "My name is Aisho Tatsuo." I told her.
"So, I'm guessing you've been kept here too." I said. Akiko nodded. "It was just today that the doors unlocked." She said. "Oh, hey I have your Digital ID." She said.
"Uh... Digital what?" I asked. "Digital ID. It's a small tablet that has your student ID on it." She said, handing him a small, black rectangle.
"How did you-" I began. "Oh, it was in front of your door. Um, just press this button here," she said, pointing at a small button on its side. "And it'll turn on."
I pressed the button and a short tune played. The weird insignia that was on the Kuma Karbonated Koffee appeared, but then it opened up to a light pink page with Akiko Akiyama's picture on it.

"See. Your Digital ID will display the name of other people here." Akiko said. "Wait, what do you mean others?" I asked. She grabbed my wrist and pulled me out into the hall.
I saw three doors. One directly across from me, one beside mine, and one across from that one. Looking at the doors, I saw a small name tag on one that appeared to have a pixelated version of Akiko on it. She pointed to it. "That one's mine." She said. "The others are empty. I already checked."
I looked at the other doors and saw another girl was beside me. I couldn't tell much from the pixelated sign, but she appeared to resemble the girl I saw outside earlier. The one across from her resembled the guy.
A girl ran down the steps that led up to the floor above us. "Oh! Others!" She raced over to us. "My name is Aimi Wakahisa." She said, holding out her hand. My Digital ID showed her Student ID with a royal purple color.

"I'm Aisho Tatsuo." I said. "And this is Akiko Akiyama." Akiko smiled and waved at Aimi. Aimi pushed a strand of her brunette hair behind her ear. "So, do either of you know what's going on here?" She asked.
I shook my head. "No clue. All I know is that I've been here for at least a week." I said, recalling that horrifying week. She adjusted the strap of her purple spaghetti-strap shirt. "So... What do you think this is?" She asked us.
"It's definitely not something good." Akiko said. "But I'm sure if we are all kind to each other, nothing had could possibly happen." She said.
"Wait, what do you mean?" I asked. "Why would you think something bad is happening?" She turned to me again. "It's just a feeling I have. Don't worry, it's probably nothing. Anyways, I'm going upstairs to see if anyone's up there." Akiko said, walking up the flight of stairs.
"Well... Anyways, it was nice to meet you Aisho." Aimi said. "I'm gonna go downstairs to see what's going on there. We should definitely hang out sometime though." And with that, she walked off.
Almost like I had no choice whatsoever, I walked up the stairs after Akiko. I found her speaking to a guy with his hair buzz cut on the sides and longer on the top. He was wearing a red and grey sweater-vest. He had a red scarf on, and he had on tan khakis. He turned to smile at me.
"My name is Reginald Brazier." He said. I smiled at him. "That's an odd name." I said without thinking. I mentally slapped myself. "Sorry about that, I say stuff without thinking sometimes..."
"Hey, it's alright." He said. "And yeah, it's odd. My parents went to Europe once, fell in love, and the rest is in my name." He said, laughing slightly. "Anyways you are..." He began, before he looked at his Digital ID. "Aisho Tatsuo, the Ultimate Librarian, right?"
I nodded. "And you're the..." I began as I looked down at my Digital ID, which loaded his Student ID, which was a light mint green.

"Eh, it's weird, but oh well." He said. "Anyways, I don't think anyone's here on this floor." He said. "I'll see you later Aisho." He said, winking as he walked down the stairs.
"He's... Interesting." Akiko said. "Anyways, I think there's only one floor left, going up that is." She said. "I'm gonna see if anyone else is upstairs." She said, starting to walk off.
"Wait! I'll go with you." I said, running to catch up to her. "Okay..." She said, starting to walk up the stairs. As we made it to the fourth floor, we saw a girl closing a door. She had black hair cut into a pixie cut, a plain white shirt, and a pair of khaki pants.
"Oh, hello. My name is Reiko Muranaka." She said. "I'm the Class President." I looked at my Digital ID, which light up a pink.

Reiko grinned at me. "I love rules, so if we're gonna get along, just follow any rules I set, okay?" She said, smiling.
"Uh... I guess so." I said. "Anyways, I'm Aisho Tatsuo, the Super Duper High School Librarian." I introduced myself, holding out my hand. Reiko shook it.
"And I'm Akiko Akiyama, the Super Duper High School Gardener." Akiko said. She held out her hand. Reiko smiled and shook her hand.
"Hey, Reiko... Want a soda?" A guy said, walking out of the room beside Reiko's. "Oh, hey. Who's these two?" He asked.
"Friends. They're Aisho Tatsuo and Akiko Akiyama." Reiko said. "And no thanks, I have my own refrigerator full." She said. "Come out and meet these two."
The guy stepped out of his room. He said curly black hair and piercing emerald green eyes. He had a rope around his neck, which held a rock climbing clip on it. He was wearing a tight red shirt, and black shorts. My Digital ID lit up red.

"Sup dude, names Isamu Ishihara. And rock climbing's my passion." He said, getting starry-eyed.
"Uh... Isn't that slightly dangerous?" I asked. "Nah man, live your life to the most extreme is what I always say." He said. "Oh dude, take this." He said, handing me a green rock climbing clip. "Now you have something to remember me by." Isamu said, running down the steps.
"Well, he gave you something, so I might as well." Reiko said, pulling one of her hairpins from her hair. "Here, it's not much, but still." She set it in my hand and walked off. I turned and looked around. Seeing no stairwell, me and Akiko descended down to the second floor.
A girl with waist-length silver hair was talking to a girl with shoulder-length sky blue hair. The silver-haired girl turned and grinned.
"Hiah, my name's Maya Shinohara." She said, grinning. My Digital I.D. lit up a light blue.

"Uh." Maya said. "Akira is kinda... awkward." She said. "She doesn't like to talk much." She said, wrapping her arm around Akira's shoulder.
"So... do you know where we even are?" Maya asked. Before me or Akiko could answer, a guy came running up the stairwell.
"Oh hi! Hi, my name is Mitsuo Hamasaki!" He said, waving at us. My Digital I.D. lit up blue.

"Oh, uh I got this note in my room." Akira mumbled. "It's says to meet downstairs." She grabbed Maya's wrist and dragged her off. Maya waved at us before disappearing downstairs.
"Well Aisho, let's go." Akiko said, smiling. She disappeared downstairs too, leaving me alone. I glanced around, looking at the doors that were locked shut, before following everyone.
As I stepped onto the first floor, I ran into, literally, another girl. She fell over with a thud. "Ouch... That hurt..." She said, laying on her back. I grabbed her hand and pulled her up.
"Sorry, um... I wasn't watching where I was going, I guess." I said. She grinned. "It's quite alright. Maybe I should introduce myself. I'm Kumuko Sugawara." She said. My Digital I.D. lit up a tangerine color.

She smiled as she pushed her glasses back up her nose. "Um... May I ask what your name is?" She asked.
"Oh, my name is Aisho Tatsuo." I said. "I'm the Ultima-" I began. I was cut off by her Digital I.D., which lit up an emerald green color. "Ultimate Librarian. Very interesting." She said, adjusting her yellow scarf.
"Anyways Mr. Tatsuo, I believe we're supposed to meet in the cafeteria. Anyways, if you would, two others are currently in the park outside, and I have plans to meet with someone, so would you possibly get them while I complete my arrangements?" She asked.
"Of course." I said. "Uh... Where the park exactly?" I asked. "Just through those doors. She said, pointing at the double doors. "Anyways, I shall see you later." She said, walking into the room across from the one she came out of.
I walked out the glass doors and saw two people on a swing set. I approached them and ears them talking.
"-so strange. Why are we even here?" The girl asked. She pulled her hair out of its bun. She ran a hand through it and smiled. "So, what's your name?" She asked.
Before the guy on the swing could answer, I walked over. "Hey... uh... you two. We're being summoned to the cafeteria." I said.
"Oh... Okay then." The girl said, smiling. "Oh hi, my name is Hoshimi Aozora. She said, smiling. My Digital I.D. lit up a sky blue.

He smiled at me. "And you're..." He began. His Digital I.D. turned green for a split second. "Aisho Tatsuo, Librarian." He said. "Anyways, you said we were needed elsewhere?" He asked. I nodded. "We're supposed to meet in the cafeteria." I said.
"Well, let us not dawdle." He said, standing up. "Let's go Mr. Tatsuo and Ms. Aozora." He said, walking off.
"That guy is so weird." Hoshimi said, rolling her eyes. Nonetheless, she still followed him. I looked around at the park. A few trees dotted the area, a swing set, a slide, a merry-go-round, and a weird statue in the middle of it all.
I ran off after the others. I burst through the doors and into the cafeteria. Fifteen people stood, staring at a makeshift stage in the center of the room. I stood next to a very tall guy with brown hair and Reiko.
"You're late." She said, not even looking at me.
"Sorry, I was looking at the park outside." I said.
"Hey you bastards!" A voice said, coming from nowhere. "Stop arguing and look at me!"
"Who... Who said that?" Akira asked, looking around.
With a small crack, a cloud of smoke appeared on stage. It filled the room, and made it hard to breathe.
A white and black bear appeared out of the cloud of smoke. He looked identical to that thing from the cans of Kuma Karbonated Koffee and that statue outside.
"I'm Monokuma!" It said. "And I'm you're new mayor." He said. "And police officer, cook, guardian, whatever! Puhuhuhu." It said, laughing.
"Uh... What the fuck are you?" The guy beside me screamed.
"Hey!" Reiko scolded him. "Don't use that language around me." She said. The guy rolled his eyes.
"Didn't you just listen to me?" Monokuma asked. "I'm Monokuma, and this is the City of Despair."
"City of Despair?" I asked.
"Yep. It's the City of Despair, and this is the Mutual Killing Life in the City of Despair!" Monokuma cheered.
"Wait, Mutual Killing Life?" Isamu asked. He started to back away.
"Yep. In this city, you can only get out IF you murder a classmate." Monokuma said. "Murder a classmate, you escape. Simple as that."
"Uh... What do you mean?" Mitsuo asked. "You gotta be joking. No way any of us would murder each other. Even if we did, I'm sure it'd be some kind of accident, as nobody here is crazy enough or brave enough or evil enough to murder anybody!" He said. Monokuma's eyes turned into two swirls.
"Slow down kid. Puhuhuhu... anyways. Yes, this is real. And this is what you gotta do." Monokuma laughed. Everyone gasped. I looked around, and I saw Akira grab Maya's hand, who, in turn, squeezed it.
"None of us would murder each other." Aimi said, playing with a strand of her hair. "Simple as that."
"Whatevs. I bet you'll die soon." Monokuma said, causing Aimi to gasp. "I'll have you know, anyone who'd even attempt to attack me would regret it! My sister's a boxing champion!" She screamed.
"Boxing?" The guy beside me asked. "I love to box." He said.
"Whatever! Remember, stab 'em, choke 'em, bludgeon 'em, drown 'em, hang 'em, burn each other, slice 'em up, skewer 'em, WHATEVS! Just get the job done." Monokuma said, disappearing.
"Please friends, do not listen to him!" A soft voice called out. A pink and white bunny jumped up on the stage. It had a white diaper on, and in one of its ears sat a light pink bow.
"I'm Monomi." She said. "I'm here to help you guys escape!" She did a small dance. "I can't do much though, Monokuma broke my magic staff, and now I can't be Usami!"
"AWWWW!" A voice cried out. A short girl with blonde hair pulled back into two ponytails jumped up on the stage and grabbed onto Monomi. She clutched Monomi to her chest and spun her around. "You're so kawaii!" She cried.
"Kawaii?" Monomi asked. "It means cute you silly Baka!" She cried.
"Uh... I don't mean to interrupt, but who are you?" I asked. She turned and smiled. "I'm Kazuko Hachimitsu!" She cheered. My Digital I.D. lit up yellow.

"Please let me go!" Monomi cried. Kazuko frowned and set Monomi down. She jumped off the stage.
"So, I shall be your personal helper!" Monomi cried. "But that meany Monokuma won't let me let you guys out." Monomi cried.
"Hey, don't worry about it." Komiko said. "You helping us in any way you can is good enough." She said.
"Thank you Ms. Sugawara." Monomi said, grinning, at least I think she was. Monomi jumped off the stage to socialize.
The dude beside me turned to face me. "Hmph. If you're thinking about attacking me you better think again." He growled, getting in my face.
I put up my hands. "It never crossed my mind." I said. He picked me up by my shirt. I looked at him as everyone gasped. Aimi and a guy with a hardhat ran over.
"Let 'im go!" The guy said, grabbing his arm. Aimi frowned at him. "Takeo. Drop him." She said. Takeo sighed and let go of my shirt. With a huff he walked out of the cafeteria, with Aimi following him.
"Who was that?" I asked. The guy with the hardhat looked at me. "That was Takeo Gushiken." He said. My Digital I.D. lit up orange.

"Dude, you okay?" Reginald asked, running over to me. "Yeah, I'm fine. I'd be dead if Aimi and Katashi didn't save me." I said.

"So, Aisho. You've met everyone, right?" Reginald asked. "I think so." I said, looking around. I knew everyone here. "Yeah. I have."
Monomi jumped up on the stage again. "Oh! I forgot to mention, check your Digital I.D.s for the rules!" She cried. I pressed a small icon shaped like a notebook.
Rule One:
No attacking the headmaster. Monokuma is not allowed to attack students, unless they attack Monokuma first.
Rule Two:
You must murder another classmate to escape. Any way you so chose.
Rule Three:
Any areas with a red sign above them are CLOSED after 10 P.M. Breaking the rules will result in punishment.
Rule Four:
No covering cameras, anywhere.
Rule Five:
Once a body is found, an alarm will go off. The three who found it are innocent. If the killer is with said trio, the alarm will not sound.
Rule Six:
Additional rules may be added as needed.
"Those rules are... weird." Reiko said. "And nobody has paid attention to my rules!" She cried.
"Uh... What are they?" Isamu asked.
"One, no boys in a girl's bathroom. Two, no swearing. Three, no sexual relationships. Also, because Monokuma wants us to, no murder. I didn't think I'd have to add that though." She said. Everyone nodded.
"Remember. We are classmates. We must not fall into whatever that bear's sinister plans are." Reiko said.
