Chapter 21 - We're Getting WHAT?!

Object's POV

I yawned and rubbed my eyes, sitting up.

I had maneuvered my hands down my backside under my legs to the front a while ago.  How long a while was, I dunno.

That was a lot of prepositional phrases....

I pushed myself up off the floor and went over to the bars, grabbing them and looking through.  "Cass?"

"Yeah?"

I sighed.  "So you're awake, too...."

She sighed too.  "Yeah....  How long hassssss it been?  It'ssssss felt like dayssssss...."

"I dunno....  No one has come down here besides a cop dude to give us some food and water....  Speaking of, doesn't he usually come down now?"

"Yeessssssh, already getting into the routine of prisssssson life?"  Cassia asked with a smirk.

I rolled my eyes and sat down, leaning back against the bars.  "Nah, it's just that around when I wake up, he comes.  It's been a couple times, so...I guess it's been a couple days?"

I moved over to the wall connecting to the bars and leaned against that so I could look at Cassia.

"I ssssssupposssssse....  Object, do you think that our clonessssss have killed anyone whilsssssst we've been in here?"

"I doubt it.  They seem to have an eerie way of knowing things.  If I were them, which, I guess technically I am yet not, if I knew my clones who I wanted to die were here, I wouldn't kill anyone else until they were...executed....  Oh no...."  I trailed off.

"You don't sssssserioussssssly think they'll execute ussssss, right?!  Like, Quentin will ssssssave ussssss, right?!"

"I...I don't know...."  I whispered.

Quentin probably won't be able to save us....  If they wouldn't listen to him before, him trying to protect us might have them thinking that he's on...well, our evil clones' side, but they'll think our side.  He'll get put in this position....

"I don't think Quentin will be able to save us....  Our best bet at this moment is for Ashley to come save us, but...I don't know how long it will take her to recover...."

"Or how long away our probable execution issssss...."

I ran my hands through my hair.  "This is bad...this is really bad...."

Cassia suddenly stood up.  I looked to her confused.  "You might wanna back up."

It took me a second to realize what she was gonna do.  "Cass, that's a terrible idea!"

"Object, we can't afford to sssssstay here much longer, much MUCH lesssssss dying here!"

I sighed and rolled away from the bars before standing up.  "I hope this doesn't get us too much worse off...."

Cassia took a deep breath before blowing fire at the bars.  I winced at the bright light but watched in slight awe as the bars started to melt away.  My bars were starting to melt a tiny bit from the heat.

After about a minute, Cassia stepped through the melted bars, blowing a little fire onto the chain of her cuffs, melting them.  She pulled her hands apart, snapping the weakened chains.

"Ok, sssssstep to the sssssside a bit more."

I did so and watched as she started to melt my bars.

"HEY!"

My eyes widened.

Of ALL freaking times for them to choose to come in....  Just...why...?

Cassia stopped blowing fire to look at the source of the voice only to get tackled down by, like, 5 people.

"Oh, come ON!  Not freaking AGAIN!"  She yelled as she struggled.

My bars were severely melted, but they weren't enough for me to get through.

Not like I could anyway....

They recuffed Cassia and then put that leather thing over her mouth again.

Well then....

It's...probably time....

3 men came into my cell and grabbed my arms harshly before dragging me out of the cell.

Cassia had been pulled to her feet, and she glared at the men holding her.

I sighed.  "Told you it was probably a bad idea, Cass...."

She gave me that look of "Do you REALLY think it's time for the whole 'I told you so' crap?"

One of the men stood in front of both of us, giving us...uh, squinty-eye looks?

"I think you both know what today is...."

"Nah, we were never told the date to begin with.  What, is it Tuesday?"  I said sarcastically.

The man glared at me and then...slapped me really hard across the face.

My head jerked, but I didn't feel anything as always.

Cassia growled and struggled against the men, but nothing happened.

I turned my head back to him with a glare.

"Surprisingly, you're right.  Today is Tuesday.  But that wasn't what I meant."

I glared even more glarier at him.  "Do you not realize the mistake you're making by killing us?  We're NOT the killers!  They're freaking clones of us!"

"So we've been told a hundred times by Detective Quentin.  That, of course, is the reason the detective is on house arrest today.  So he cannot interfere with your punishment."

Wooow....

We're screwed.

The men shoved us down the hallways out into the lobby area.  Brax watched us with a judgmental look as we went out the doors.

The men shoved us into the back of an armored (geez) truck and then started driving.

There were 4 men in there with us.  2 were holding Cassia and 2 on me.

*sigh*  We're not gonna live...we're gonna die....

Cassia looked at me with panicked eyes.  She knew our situation was utterly hopeless right now.

I could only return a comforting look.  I'm pretty sure talking would get me smacked which is not good for my body.  You know, to be whacked about all the time.

Eventually, the truck stopped and we were, once again, shoved forcefully out.  I actually fell to my knees.  It didn't hurt, but I knew that my knees were probably badly scraped up.

I then realized the noise around us.

Crowds.

Watching us...come to...die....

I was picked up and shoved forward down a path through the crowd.  They all booed and stuff.

Cassia seemed to be looking around for...I dunno, something or someone.  Maybe Ashley?

Then...a young boy, maybe a teen, came out of the crowd onto the path, blocking our way.  Cassia's eyes widened and she looked at me with a "Remember?" look.

Wait...wasn't this the kid who threw the apple at Cassia a few days ago?  And then she gave it back?

"Kid, what are you doing?  Go back to your parents."  The man who had slapped me ordered.

The kid looked scared, but he stood his ground.  "N-No.  I don't think these are the killers.  I mean, she was nice to me!"  He said, pointing at Cassia.

"Kid, she could've been pretending."

He shook his head.  "No!  It was genuine!"

Cassia looked awestrucked at the fact that someone other than Quentin or our friends was protecting her.

"Look, we don't have time for this.  We have things to do."

The boy crossed his arms.  "No.  I refuse to let you kill them.  These people aren't the killers.  They're too kind."

The man glared at the kid.  A man from behind us came forward, grabbed the kid, and slung him over his shoulder before walking back through the crowd who parted for him.

"NO!  STOP!  DON'T KILL THEM!  IT'LL BE A HUGE MISTAKE!"  The kid screamed.

His words echoed around, but nobody cared.  The men just kept shoving us forward.

Cassia glanced at me while trying to not trip, but I could see the sadness in her eyes.  She looked about ready to give up.

I risked it.  "Cass, don't give up.  There's still a chan----"

One of the men slapped me really hard, cutting me off.  "Shut up, killer."  He growled.

Cassia growled at him but did not do anything to escape.

After walking for a little longer, we got to a platform.  The men pushed us up the stairs so that we were all standing on it.

Then they harshly shoved us to the ground, making both of us bang our knees against the concrete.

Cassia yelped and I just winced at her pain.

"We have FINALLY captured the killers!"  The man said, earning a bunch of cheers.  "The deaths caused by them is unforgivable.  Which is why, today, they shall pay for their crimes with their lives!"

I looked to Cassia and she looked back at me with wide eyes.  I could see tears start to well up in them.

"I'm not entirely mean.  Tell me, OBJECT, do you have any last words?"  He said haughtily.  I heard a gun click and I squeezed my eyes shut before opening them again.  "You're making a huge mistake.  Killing us will do nothing.  In fact, it will screw you all over.  We are probably the only ones who can stop the true killers."

"Uh huh, sure."  He said sarcastically.  "So we'll just let you go now and you'll go and kill the murderers.  How, by jumping off a really high cliff?"

The people laughed and I clenched my fists.  "No, by killing the REAL killers."

The man scoffed.  "Well, I think your time here in Minecraftia is up."

I felt the gun against the back of my head and I tensed, squeezing my eyes shut.

I waited for the click, the burst, the darkness, but it never came.

Cliché much?

Instead, there was a loud boom and I fell to the side from some kind of push.

I opened my eyes to see, and hear, the crowd freaking out and ducking.  The man holding the gun to my head had fallen off the platform, knocked unconscious against the ground.  The other men were either like the first man or on the platform knocked out.

I pushed myself up and helped Cassia up, pulling the leather thing down so that it hung around her neck.  She was staring at the sky.

"Are you ok?!"  I asked hurriedly.

"I think we both are now....  Look...."  She muttered, still staring at the sky.

I turned and gasped.

"Sssssshe did come in time...."

There, flying in the air, was Ashley, and she looked MAD.

Well...at least our chances of not dying are higher....  That's good...right?
