Life 2 - Chapter 22
We all disappeared in that puff of smoke, and the scene changed.
When I could see again, I realized that I was nearly completely transparent. I still had Mitch in my arms, though.
We were sitting on the floor, MonoKirby floating above us.
"Come on, you two! We don't have all day, boyo!"
We stood up and looked around.
I then looked 'out'.
"Wait, why are the words italicized?"
MonoKirby groaned. "Gosh, Jerome, leave the fourth wall alone! Geez, boyo.... Anyways, it's like that and you're like this because we are in the past. My past, boyo."
I frowned and looked around.
We appeared to be in the hallway where the 16 rooms would've been. But instead of 16 rooms, there were 16 holes. Just holes.
We all heard some very quiet footsteps coming from one of the holes.
MonoKirby shook his head and turned around. Me and Mitch also turned around.
There, a single, familiar, pink puffball walked down the hall.
MonoKirby.
"Back then, I was just Kirby." MonoKirby explained.
Kirby looked around quite a bit.
He then walked towards us, but he didn't seem to see us.
"It is a past memory, boyo. Neither we nor they can interact with the other."
Mitch cocked his head a little as Kirby seemed to stop at the end of the hall that connected the 3 hallways.
He turned to the Grand Hall doors and pushed them open.
We walked in through the doors as they closed behind Kirby and us.
There were no chairs or the table. It was just a big empty space with a throne at the end of the room.
Something sat atop the throne.
No. Not something. Someone.
A very large penguin with royal robes and a cap sat upon the throne, eyeing Kirby.
Kirby looked angry. "King Dedede, your reign of terror is over, boyo!"
Dedede laughed and stood up, picking up his hammer that had been leaning against the throne.
"No, Kirby, it will be your end."
Kirby narrowed his eyes and took a step forward.
Dedede twirled his hammer in his hand and, without warning, chucked it at Kirby.
Kirby's eyes widened and he dove out of the way, rolling and standing back up.
The hammer went through us, but Mitch still let out a little squeak of fright. It was really adorable.
Kirby leapt towards the hammer and sucked it into his mouth. Somehow, the large hammer fit into his mouth.
A ball of light enveloped Kirby, and a few seconds later, it died down to reveal Kirby holding a hammer more his size and a light blue headband around his head.
Dedede did not seem surprised at all. Instead, he just pulled a hammer from beneath his robes.
Kirby examined his hammer before sighing. "You meant to do that, didn't you, boyo?"
Dedede chuckled. "Perhaps."
Then it began.
Dedede launched himself at Kirby, swinging his hammer.
Kirby dodged and kicked Dedede in the back, sending him careening to the side.
Dedede quickly recovered and swung back 'round, catching Kirby off guard.
Kirby raised his hammer in defense, but the weight of both the penguin king and the hammer were too much. Kirby went flying back into a wall.
He fell to the floor and groaned. Somehow, he still had the hammer in his hand.
Dedede twirled his hammer in his hand again, but he didn't throw it. "Don't you see, Kirby? You can't beat me. You're too weak."
Kirby used his hammer to stand back up. "No...I will not allow you to continue your reign, boyo...."
Dedede smirked raised his hammer, bringing it down upon the defenseless puffball.
Kirby attempted to leap out of the way, and he did. Barely.
I looked back at MonoKirby to see him wincing.
Dedede laughed evilly. "Give up, Kirby. Make my job easier."
Kirby scrambled up and away, trying to catch his breath. "N-No...I will never give up...."
Dedede threw his hammer at Kirby.
Kirby ducked, but in the process, lost his hammer to the momentum of the other.
Dedede picked up Kirby with one giant hand, trapping Kirby's arms at his sides.
Kirby struggled to no avail. His headband disintegrated since he wasn't holding the hammer. The hammer also disintegrated.
Dedede sighed and started slowly pacing around the room. "Why do you try to survive, Kirby? You've been thrown away by your friends and family. Nobody likes you."
Kirby stopped struggling and froze. "Even if I'm not liked by anyone, I'll still do what's right, boyo."
Slowly, Dedede's hand closed around Kirby. Kirby panicked and struggled again.
"Then you have died in vain."
MonoKirby seemed to freeze, as if he remembered something he'd forgotten.
"NO THEY HAVE NOT!" yelled a distorted voice.
Something hit Dedede in the back, causing him to drop Kirby.
Kirby hit the floor, gasping.
Dedede turned, and so did we.
Mitch seemed to freeze in my arms, but he forced himself to relax.
A purple cloaked figure stood about 10 blocks from Dedede.
"Who the heck are you?" Dedede asked.
The figure seemed to think for a moment before answering, "The mastermind of this castle."
Before Dedede could protest that it was HIS castle, the figure pulled a sword from beneath their cloak and swung at Dedede, cutting his head off.
The sword was held by the arm of the cloak, so we could not see the hand of the person.
Before Dedede's head or body could hit the floor, it disappeared.
Kirby shakily stood up and looked at the figure.
They just stared at each other before the to-be-mastermind scooped Kirby in their arms and swiftly carried him away. Kirby didn't protest.
MonoKirby mumbled under his breath and smoke enveloped us.
We appeared in a different room, but it didn't seem to be too much farther along than the last scene.
The mastermind held Kirby in their arms, rocking him upon a bed.
"Yes, Kirby, I do truly love you in a friendly way."
Kirby glanced up at the mastermind. "What do I call you, boyo?"
The mastermind chuckled lightly before answering, "Just call me the mastermind. Why? I am going to fix this castle up into something...different, and I want your help, Kirby."
Kirby snuggled into the mastermind's arms. "You saved my life, boyo. I OWE you my life. Whatever you need, I'll get."
The mastermind placed Kirby down on the bed and placed their hand on his head.
They mumbled under their breath and a ball of light engulfed Kirby.
When it died down, there stood who we knew as MonoKirby, though he was probably still Kirby at that moment.
Kirby seemed to be in a daze before looking around, slightly confused. "Whoa, I feel...weird, boyo."
The mastermind picked up Kirby and hugged him. "You are no longer Kirby. From this day forth, you are MonoKirby, game host of...this game I will create."
MonoKirby sighed happily into the mastermind's chest and drifted off to sleep.
The mastermind seemed to look directly at us. "We must prepare...."
MonoKirby, our MonoKirby, mumbled under his breath, and the puff of smoke engulfed us.
We appeared back in our room, me still holding Mitch on our bed.
MonoKirby looked...dazed. "I...I couldn't completely remembered what happened, boyo.... I...I need to go."
He disappeared in his puff of smoke.
Me and Mitch looked at each other. "Wow...." Mitch whispered.
I nodded. "Very interesting. So this person seems to have...somewhat created MonoKirby."
Mitch seemed deep in thought. "...The mastermind...who could it be?"
I sighed, putting my face into Mitch's hair. "It could be any of them...."
