Life 2 - Chapter 16

I sighed heavily. "You've got to be kidding me...." I muttered.

Mitch looked at me. "Seriously."

He looked at Quentin, who was investigating Nick's body.

"What do we know?" He asked.

Quentin looked up. "Oh, Mitch, Jerome! Glad you two are doing well. We've got a crudely made stake here." He pointed at the stake. "I can tell because there are many splinters around each puncture, suggesting that it wasn't carved, but rather ripped off something."

"Do we know what?" I asked.

Quentin shook his head. "We found him about 7 minutes ago, which leaves us 8."

Mitch whispered in my ear. "If we get through this alive, I...need to talk with you about some things."

I nodded.

Felix, who had been looking at Nick, turned to us. "You two can go ahead and wait if you'd like in the Grand Hall."

I shifted my legs a bit and winced at the sting. "Yeah, good idea."

Mitch helped me walk to the Grand Hall. The clock that was in there said 4:56 P.M. Ian, Crainer, and Seto were searching around the Grand Hall.

Mitch helped me lean up against the wall. I couldn't exactly sit down because the table and chairs seemed to disappear when the...circle thing appeared.

Seto came over. "Hey, Jerome. Glad to see you doing better."

I smirked. "It takes a lot to kill a bacca."

He nodded. "Ross told us. Me, Ross, and Nick helped you because Mitch got us. He told us a bacca fact that really helped. You know, you having 11 pints of blood instead of 8 like a human."

I pursed my lips. "I...uhh...didn't know that."

Mitch and Seto laughed. I frowned. "What? I'm a bacca of Hunger Deens, not Fact Wars!"

"DING-A-LING, DING-A-LING, BOYO!! Time's up! Head to the Grand Hall for the second Castle Trial!"

Mitch, Seto, and I looked at the table as a hole in the ground beneath it opened up. Something about the layout, though, didn't look right. Something was out of place. The table and chairs sunk into the hole as it closed up. A circular hole then opened up as the 16 podiums in a circle rose.

"Huh. So that's where the table goes." I said.

Mitch chuckled lightly. "One mystery down, six kajillion more to figure out."

I leaned back on his shoulder as he led me to my podium. "Seriously." I muttered. I leaned against the side of it as he went to his place.

The set-up was similar to the last but with 2 new paintings to the mix.

Ty and Nick.

Once everyone filed in...MonoKirby appeared.

"HEHEHEHEHE!! Let the Castle Trial...BEGIN! BOYO!"

Quentin took the lead. "In my opinion, I believe we should start with Jerome's attacker. I...don't think we can execute them...yet, but we can keep our eyes on them." He then looked at me. "Jerome, are you comfortable with telling us what happened?"

Cool. He knows psychological things.

I nodded. "I had went to bed last night and had a...dream-memory. I think it was of my old home. My parents were there and there was an attack, resulting with me becoming an orphan. At some point near the end of it, a feminine voice told me to wake up because I was in danger. I woke up and sensed someone in my room. I was still for a few seconds before I bolted up and tried to get away. That obviously didn't work as they knocked me out. I woke up again to find myself tied up. I tried getting out when the person put a sharp object, most likely a knife, on my face. They were whispering, and their voice was cracking."

At this point, I noticed Ian tense up.

"Ian?" I asked.

He shook his head. "I'll...tell you all after you're finished."

I sighed. "Anyways, they were saying that I was awake and when I asked who they were, they said my killer. That obviously didn't work since I'm standing here now. They said they weren't giving me a fast death, but rather a slow one. Then they began slicing...up...."

I winced as I remembered. It made my wounds hurt again just thinking about it.

"I think we've got enough, Jerome." Quentin said softly. He could tell my memories were getting to me.

I nodded and sighed. "Ian?" I asked.

He gripped the edges of his podium and shivered. "I...I know who did it.... I...It's hard to explain, but I don't think he'll kill in the midst of the group...."

Crainer looked shocked. "Homie?"

Shakily, Ian reached up and slowly took off his glasses, looking at me. He had normal blue eyes.

Suddenly, he yelped and faceplanted on his podium, gripping the sides of his head.

Crainer ran to Ian. "Ian!"

Suddenly, Ian slowly stood straight, keeping his head to the ground. Crainer backed away slowly.

Ian? sighed. "Why do you have to ruin the fun, Ian...?"

That voice.

I recognized that cracking voice.

Ian? looked up at me and grinned madly. "Oh, Jerome. You're still alive. Dangit."

I unconsciously scooted back a bit. "Wha...." His eyes were facing different directions completely, one going up right and the other going down left. How was that even possible???

I was so confused.

He laughed. "I'm not Ian, if you're wondering. The name's Derp. Derp SSundee." (One of my favorite alter egos of Team Crafted. :D)

Everyone else was shocked into silence.

Derp just stared at us.

Finally, Mark was the one who spoke. "Umm...what now?"

Derp looked at him and shrugged. "Lock me in a room somewhere? Pretty sure you all want to now that you know."

I shook my head. "This doesn't make sense. If Ian knows about you, why would he take his glasses off?"

Derp grinned. "You really think Ian is stupid enough to do that?" He answered, looking at MonoKirby.

MonoKirby stuck out his tongue. "Aw, come on, Derp! You weren't supposed to tell them, boyo!"

I looked at MonoKirby. "Really, MonoKirby?! You said you can't interfere!"

He shook his head-body. "No, I said I can't tell you who the murderer is, boyo! Besides, the mastermind wanted me to!"

Mitch tensed up, but I ignored it...for now.

MonoKirby rolled his eyes. "I came in Ian's room and took off his glasses in his sleep. There. Happy, boyo?"

I sighed heavily.

MonoKirby landed on my podium and did a sassy pose. "Whatcha gonna do 'bout it, huh, boyo?"

I sighed again. "You're such a baka."

"Baka with a k - a Japanese word for idiot, fool, or just stupid. Bacca with 2 c's as in Jerome's species is a type of berry or a fruit of a single ovary, typically a grape or cranberry. Also slang for tobacco."

Everyone just stared at Ross. He shrugged. "What? I may be a super Minecraft informant, but I can also know some things!"

I shook my head. "Let's just get on with this, please. And Derp? Please give Ian back."

Derp rolled his eyes, which looked HELLA weird, and put his glasses back on. He flinched and grabbed his head before sighing. "Sorry, guys...." Ian muttered.

I sighed. "It wasn't you, Ian, it was Derp."

I adjusted myself again before looking at the 12 others.

Quentin seemed to ponder something. "All we know was that it happened in the night and the stake was broken off something! This isn't gonna work!" He exclaimed.

I thought back to the mental image of the table and chairs. The layout seemed different...because there were only 15 chairs!

"A chair." I said.

Quentin looked at me. "Huh?"

I looked back. "A chair. When I came in here, the table and chair layout looked different to me. It's because there were only 15 chairs!" I said, excited that I knew an important clue.

Mark spoke up. "When the lights go out, the electricity to the game room tv doesn't. You could play video games on it all night. I know this because I did it a couple days ago."

"So...most likely someone who's into gaming killed Nick. That would mean...Mark, Felix, Jin, or Sky. Mitch and Jerome would seem to be in the list, but I know for a fact that his door had not opened for a couple days." Ross concluded.

The accused froze. "Dude, I don't kill!" Sky exclaimed.

"I'm with him in that same regard." Jin said calmly.

"Bro, I only kill in video games." Felix said. (Funny, Felix, because Dangan Ronpa is a game, here and an IRL video game)

"I don't find killing real people amusing. I only kill little stick figure things and stuff like that. Not real people." Mark said.

I looked at Mitch. "It's not Sky. I know when Sky is lying from playing video games with him so much."

"Thank you...wait, what?" Sky asked, slightly confused.

Mitch just smirked.

"It couldn't be Jin...he's a genius, not a fighter. I'm pretty sure he would have killed him in a more...thought-out way." I said, pondering all the details.

"Elaborate. And...thank you?" Jin said hesitantly.

I smiled sheepishly. "Just being blunt 'bout it."

Quentin looked between the 2 kings. "King of FNAF...and king of horror games."

"FNAF is known to be a horror game in the sense of jumpscares rather than blood. The main character you play doesn't kill. He has to survive and not be killed himself. He is also unable to leave the office, nor does he ever attack the animatronics." Ross said in an almost drone-like tone.

"And who do we know that has an obsession of a chair being his best friend and 'super helpful?'"

We all looked at Felix. He just looked back with a shocked face. "Bros, you can't seriously think I killed Nick."

I shifted and winced. "Ow. Felix, there's a crap load of evidence against you."

Felix opened his mouth and then closed it, a look of distress on his face.

Mitch sighed. "At some point last night, Nick decided to go play some games on the tv. Meanwhile, Felix broke a leg off a chair and hid the chair. He went into the game room and stabbed Nick. Since he hadn't stopped to sharpen the stake, it didn't completely go through him. For some reason we will probably never know, no one heard Nick scream. Felix repeatedly stabbed Nick until he stabbed him one last time where his heart was. He left and most likely went back to bed."

Felix gripped the sides of his podium and grimaced.

MonoKirby giggled. "Seems we have a mostly unanimous decision, boyo?"

"Wait!" Mark exclaimed. "I don't think he did it. I mean, he's my cr---friend."

I looked at Mitch and mouthed, "Pewdiplier."

Mitch just rolled his eyes.

The top of the podium slid back to reveal the 15 names, but the buttons for Jess, Nick, and Ty were not there.

I pressed Felix's name.

MonoKirby frowned. "Huh. 11 for one person and 1 for another, boyo." He looked at Mark.

"I refuse to believe it was him." Mark growled through his teeth. (Anyone remember Jerome's reaction to Mitch being...you know? :3)

MonoKirby sighed. "Whatever, boyo."

The slot machine rose in the center with Jin's, Crainer's, and Mitch's faces on it. MonoKirby hopped on the lever. It began spinning a lot. Finally, they started stopping one at a time.

Felix. Felix. Felix.

The sign popped up.

GUILTY

Mark looked dumbstruck.

Felix just stayed silent as he stared at his podium, unwilling to look at anyone.

"CORRECT! Felix is the killer, boyo!"

"But why?" I whispered.

Felix sighed heavily. "Stefano told me to...."

His golden/budder statue?

I sighed heavily and sucked in a sharp breath as a slight sting ran through my leg.

"Biggums, you ok?" Mitch asked worriedly.

I nodded. "Y-Yeah, just sore."

Ian placed his face in his hands. "I'm so sorry, dood."

The slot machine's screen flashed on again. The pixelated MonoKirby sucked Felix into his mouth and dashed off the screen.

MonoKirby rolled his eyes. "Welp, we all know what time it is...." He said in a very creepy/evil tone.

Felix went wide-eyed as the floor beneath him opened and he fell in with a yelp.

"FELIX!!" Mark yelled.

MonoKirby giggled evilly as he moved us to the small room again.

Felix rose on a tiny platform from the ground. The rest of the room was darkened for us, so we could see only Felix...but he was looking around in both terror and...humored disgust?

Then, part of the room light up over a barred door, MonoKirby on top of it. A terrifying screech fill both rooms.

MonoKirby reached for a button over the door. "Let the execution...BEGIN!"

He pressed the button and disappeared.
