CHAPTER NINE, ski ldoge

(brylee's outfit for the first part of the chapter)

(bennett's outfit for this part of the chapter)

Brylee had been asked to be a chaperone for the Nature Club and Bennett had as well. Cory's younger brother, Josh, was also a chaperone and so was himself and Topanga. Brylee had packed her bag and went to the school. Soon everyone got on board on the bus and were heading to the ski lodge. Brylee and Bennett, of course, had sat together. Brylee was excited yet nervous for this trip. She hadn't been a chaperone before and she hoped she did well. She and Bennett sat on the left side in the middle. His arm was thrown over her shoulders and her head was resting on his shoulder. She had her eyes closed, but not sleeping, just relaxing. Bennett's hand had been resting on her shoulder, gently stroking it with his thumb.

Brylee furrowed her eyebrows when she felt someone poke her head and she lifted her head off Bennett's shoulder, glancing over to see Maya looking at her over the seat. "How are you not bored?" Maya asked. She was so bored since her phone died and she couldn't listen to music or play games. She had been talking to Riley, but now Riley was looking out the window at the changing colors with the trees.

"I'm not." Brylee shrugged, resting her head on Bennett's shoulder again.

"How come?" Her sister questioned, looking at her curiously.

"Because I have him." Brylee grinned, tilting her head up and pressing her lips to his jaw, causing him to smile a little.

"Gross, don't do that stuff in front of me." Maya complained, her face scrunching up in disgust.

"Awe, come on, Maya. I think they're super cute." Riley chimed in, smiling at the couple.

"See. Someone appreciates us." Brylee grinned, glancing at Maya and sticking her tongue out at her.

"I appreciate you." Bennett said, smiling at her and placing a kiss on the side of her head. Brynlee's heart fluttered and she laid her head on his shoulder to hide the blush creeping up her neck.

"Gross." Maya grimaced and sat back down, shaking her head.

Brylee stuck her tongue out at her again and leaned against Bennett, closing her eyes. "Do you wanna sleep a little? You seem tired." Bennett noticed, concern filling his gaze. He was right. Brylee was exhausted and the last night hadn't been a great sleep. She had been up late working on homework and had trouble going to sleep.

"A little nap wouldn't hurt." Brylee admitted, a small yawn leaving her lips.

"Alright." Bennett smiled, moving his arm to wrap around her waist instead. She snuggled closer to him, wrapping her arms around his waist and leaning her head on his shoulder. Her eyes closed and she relaxed as he rubbed her back gently.

Bennett watched as her breathing slowed down and he knew she was asleep. He smiled softly and placed a kiss on the top of her head. Maya glanced over at the couple, seeing how peaceful Brylee looked. Her lips curled upwards slightly. She was happy for them, she was happy her sister found a good guy. She had a feeling they would last.

Soon, the bus came to a stop and the doors opened, causing Brylee to jolt awake. She looked around in confusion, realizing they were at the ski lodge. She rubbed the sleep from her eyes, turning to Bennett when she heard him speak.

"Hey, sleepyhead."

"Hi." She giggles, leaning over and kissing his cheek. "Are we here?"

"Yup. You ready?" Bennett questioned, smiling at her.

"As I'll ever be." Brylee laughed.

Bennett grins and grabs their bags, standing up and holding out his hand. She takes his hand, letting him pull her to her feet and they exit the bus with the others. Brylee couldn't help but look at the ski lodge in awe. She had never been to one before and she couldn't believe how beautiful the building was.

"Oh my gosh, it's so beautiful."

"Yeah. It is." Bennett agreed, looking at her instead.

"You're staring at me." She murmured, glancing back at him with a shy smile as her cheeks turned red.

"Why would I stare at anything or anyone else?" Bennett inquired, tilting his head to the side with a fond look in his eyes.

Blush crept up Brylee's neck and she ducked her head shyly. She couldn't help but smile though. He made her feel special. She couldn't even explain it, but when he looked at her or talked to her, it made her heart skip a beat and her stomach fill with butterflies. She couldn't believe just a year ago they were frenemies. Now they were dating and in love. Bennett chuckled lightly at seeing this reaction from her and leaned over to kiss the top of her head, his arm wrapping around her shoulders. The couple's attention is brought over to the love triangle better known as Riley, Maya, and Lucas, when they walk inside. Riley had hurt her foot when she stepped off the bus and now she was limping. Bennett knew how clumsy his cousin could be but he still felt bad for her. Brylee felt bad for her too, of course, and hoped she would get better soon. She hated that now Riley would most likely have to miss most if not all of the trip.

"Riley, how did you fall off the bus?" Maya questioned in disbelief. She still didn't understand how her best friend fell off the bus.

"Who does that?" Lucas asked with confusion and disbelief.

"Nobody." Cory replied.

"My clumsy cousin does." Bennett quipped, earning a playful glare from Riley and he just chuckled softly and shrugged in response.

"Ooh!" Riley's excited voice fills the room when she noticed a bay window. "Bay window!" She grins at Maya. "Bay window right now." They helped her over to the bay window where the trio sat by each other.

"Are you worried about them like I am?" Bennett questioned, glancing at Brylee curiously.

"Oh, yeah." Brylee nods. "That's a mess right there. I never had a good feeling about the love triangle."

"I didn't either." Bennett said, shaking his head. "I don't want anyone to get hurt."

"Me neither. But when two girls like the same guy, someone is bound to get hurt. Hopefully they can work it out." Brylee muttered, biting her lip. She was worried for them because this love triangle had been going on for so long. It seemed as if they didn't know how to resolve the situation.

"They'll figure it out." Bennett said, sounding confident.

"I sure hope so."

The couple watched the three friends for a minute, both sharing the same concerns. Their attention is brought over to Smackle when she walked in with her boyfriend, Farkle. "When's the first nature hike, dreamboat?" Smackle inquired, smiling dreamingly at Josh and playfully punching his arm. Brylee raised her eyebrows at this and chuckled lightly. Bennett chuckled lightly as well and looked amused.

"Smackle, do you even know who this is?" Farkle asked his girlfriend, looking slightly offended.

"He's Maya's Boing." Smackle replied.

"Then why would you call him dreamboat?" Farkle questioned.

"Look at him." Smackle pointed at Josh with a grin and pat his face.

"Okay, while Cory and Topanga are checking us in, let me welcome you all to Mount Sun Lodge where we are here to turn our thoughts away from our indoor relationships and towards our relationships with the outdoors." Josh explained.

Brylee grimaces when she spotted the sign near the front door. It was couple's weekend and so what Josh said was definitely not gong to happen. Zay notices the sign as well and shakes his head. "Yeah, I don't think so, Cub Scout." He remarked. His remark caused everyone to look around with surprise at seeing couples all over the lodge.

"You brought them here on Couple's Weekend?" Topanga asked her husband with surprise.

"Of course I did." Cory sighed heavily.

"'Nature Sez: Tree's A crowd'." Zay read off what the board said.

"Huh." Riley mumbled nervously.

"'Moonlight Walk: Triangle Trail.'" Smackle read off what was next.

"Huh." Maya's eyes widen at hearing that.

"'Riley, Maya, Lucas: Enough Already!'" Brylee shares a confused look with Bennett when Farkle read that off and then they both realized Farkle had added that to the board. "Huh." Farkle spoke, tossing the marker and catching it.

****

The first hike was for sure interesting. The group gets back to the lodge, Cory and Josh having to pull Darby and Yoby away from each other. "How was it?" Riley asked with a smile. She was sat on the bay window with her leg outstretched. She now wore a brace on her hurt ankle as well.

"Oh, just like you'd think. Farkle wondered off the trail, and Maya broke the rules and went after him." Lucas replied.

Brylee nods in agreement. "Yeah, not totally a surprise any of that happened."

"Maya, you broke the rules?" Riley inquired, raising her eyebrows at her best friend. She got off the bay window carefully and walked over to her.

"Yeah. She always breaks the rules, but this time she could have been killed." Lucas responded, glancing at Maya with a stern look. He turns to face her with crossed arms. "It's like you never know when to stop."

"Farkle." Maya pointed at Farkle, asking him for some help.

"She saved my life." Farkle admitted.

Riley's eyes widen. "Wait, what happened?"

"I was chasing a rare Achemon Sphinx Moth for my collection." Farkle replied.

"I have one." Smackle chimed in, raising her hand with a proud smile.

Farkle's lips form into a thin line and he clearly looks annoyed. "He was flying around like he was taunting me, and no one taunts Farkle!"

"F-lahh." Smackle taunted him and he did it right back to her, raising his voice which surprised the others.

"I grabbed him out of the air, looked him in the eye, and said, 'Achemon?'" Farkle scoffs. "'Ache-mine!""

"That would have been great if that had actually happened." Bennett muttered.

"Now tell them what really happened, honey." Smackle encouraged, patting Farkle's shoulder to comfort him.

"He tricked. He flew over there and I went after him and slipped off the edge of the trail. I was hanging on a tree branch. I was hanging by my fingertips." Farkle explained.

"Maya tears off, jumps up, and saves him." Zay chimed in.

"What were you doing?" Riley asked, pointing at Lucas.

"I was saving Smackle." Lucas answered.

"What happened to you?" Riley furrowed her eyebrows, glancing at Smackle with confusion.

"I was all, 'Help, Lucas. Help'." Smackle said, pretending to act like she needed help.

"All while Farkle was hanging form a tree?" Riley inquired with disbelief.

"No, every chance I get." Smackle admitted, earning a shocked look from her boyfriend.

"Wait, what were you two doing?" Riley questioned, glancing at Brylee and Bennett.

"Nothing because we stayed on the trail like we were supposed to." Brylee replied.

"Come on, Lone Star." Maya playfully shoves Lucas. "You're not really mad at me. You like when we tangle. That's what you like about me. You just don't want to admit it."

"No." Lucas shrugs, shaking his head. "It's not, Maya. I don't think it is."

Silence fills the room and the tension is thick. Brylee and Bennett decided to walk away and give them time to talk alone. Smackle and Farkle left as well and Zay followed them. Brylee and Bennett decided to go up stairs to the loft area to spend some time alone.

"What a mess." Bennett sighed, shaking his head as they walked.

"Definitely." Brylee agrees, biting her lip. She had been worried about her little sister when she broke the rules and went after Farkle. Yes, she had been worried about Farkle too, but Maya was her little sister. She would always be more worried about Maya. "I'm worried about the three of them."

"I am too. That love triangle had always been a mess." Bennett murmured, sitting beside her as they sat down on one of the couches on the loft. He wrapped his arm around her shoulders and pulled her closer. She snuggled close to him and rests her head on his chest.

"I'm just hoping it ends well. I hate to see any of them get hurt." Brylee spoke.

"Me too." Bennett agreed. He hoped no one got hurt. He hoped Riley, Maya, and Lucas would work things out. They all deserved to be happy.

"Let's talk about something else. Let's talk about the fact that we are at a ski lodge for the first time as a couple." Brylee smiles, tilting her head back to look up at him.

"We're actually here as chaperones." Bennett smirked, causing her to roll her eyes.

"Oh, whatever. You know what I meant." Brylee chuckles.

"Yeah, I do." He grins, leaning down and pressing a kiss to her forehead. "It is nice, isn't it?"

"Very nice." She replied, resting her head on his shoulder, her hand coming to rest on his thigh. He placed his hand over hers, lacing their fingers together. She watched with a smile as he traced small circles on the back of her hand with his thumb.

"Do you know what would make this moment better?"

"What?" Brylee asked, lifting her head off his shoulder and glancing at him.

"This." He leaned down and closed the distance between their lips, his free hand coming to rest on the side of her neck, his thumb stroking her jaw. She hummed against his lips and kissed him back, her lips moving slowly against his. She could never get enough of kissing him. It never failed to make her heart race and her stomach fill with butterflies.

She pulls away a moment later, her lips still tingling. "Definitely better." She grinned.

"I couldn't agree more." He smiles, giving her another quick kiss before pulling her into a hug. She hugged him back, closing her eyes and enjoying the warmth from his body and the comfort from the hug. She was definitely glad they decided to go for a walk together.

The couple found themselves down stairs, standing near Josh with movies in their hand. It was movie night so now they had to find what movie to watch. But none of the movies looked good and after they all overheard Riley and Maya talking about how their life would be with Lucas they knew it would be better than any of the movie options.

Now everyone gathered in the living room area, listening to Riley and Maya explain how their life would be with Lucas. Maya wanted a dangerous and exciting life filled with love and adventure and Riley wanted a romantic and happily ever after life filled with love and comfort. Brylee and Bennett would both surprised with how different their dreams were. But with Maya's dream, she and Lucas would've argued instead of saving the world and with Riley's dream it would've bene so sappy and not real at all.

"Wait, no, stop." Riley speaks up after everyone had clapped when they were done. "None of that is what's going to happen."

"We care about each other too much to let anything like that happen, right?" Maya asked hopefully.

Lucas nods. "I hope so."

"We do." Riley agrees. "So, I hope you guys aren't looking for some big fight..."

"'Cause there isn't gonna be one." Maya finished her sentence and everyone groaned.

"But we wanted one!" Zay complained as he stood up.

"They already said there isn't gonna be one." Farkle argued while he stood.

"But I wanted one!" Zay told him.

"You wanna have one?" Farkle asked.

"Yeah!" Zay nodded.

"No!" Farkle shook his head and walked away.

Zay chuckles. "Boy, that was a quick one."

Everyone began to disperse and do their own things. Brylee and Bennett decide to head up to the loft. Since they got there, they found the loft being their go to place when they want time to themselves. They sit by each other on the couch, their arms around each other.

"That was interesting." Brylee murmured.

"Interesting is definitely one word you could use." Bennett agreed. She sighed and snuggled up to him, resting her head on his shoulder. His arm around her tightened and he kissed the top of her head.

"I hope everything works out for them. They deserve to be happy." Brylee mumbled, biting her lip. She didn't want her sister and her friends to get hurt.

"I hope so, too." Bennett nodded, rubbing her shoulder gently. He didn't want anyone to get hurt either. He hoped the love triangle would be resolved somehow. The couple spent some more time up on the loft together before finally deciding to part ways and head to bed, ending the night with a good night kiss.

The next morning Brylee and Bennett met on the main floor of the lodge when they had woke up. They smiled at each other when they saw each other and made their way over. He wrapped his arm around her shoulders while she wraps her arm around his waist.

"Morning." She greeted, tilting her head back and grinning up at him.

"Good morning." He smiles. His gaze scans the room curiously and saw no one else was there. Well, he saw Topanga and Cory there and it looked like they had been talking all night. But then his eyes widen when he saw his cousin was still awake and sitting on the bay window with a boy he never seen before. "Uh oh."

"Why the 'uh oh'?" Brylee asks with confusion, following his gaze and her eyes widen. "Uh oh."

"Yeah, this is gonna go badly with everyone else." Bennett sighed. Brylee nodded in agreement and followed him over to Riley and the boy.

"Morning, Riley." Brylee greets with a smile, glancing at the boy by her curiously. "Who's your friend?"

"No one." Riley quickly says. "I don't know him."

"And yet it seems like you talked with him all night." Bennett spoke, narrowing his eyes.

"Well, you know me." Riley smiles nervously. "I like to talk."

"You mind talking to us about who he is?" Brylee questioned, pointing at the boy by Riley.

"I told you, he's no one. He's a no one." Riley answered with a nervous look.

"Hi, I'm Evan." The boy beside her introduced himself despite what she just said.

"Nice to meet you, Evan." Brylee smiles, shaking his hand. "I'm Brylee and this is Bennett."

"And I'm Riley's older cousin so if you try anything, I won't hesitate to put you in a headlock." Bennett threatened.

"Good to know." Evan nodded, his eyes widening slightly and he looked a bit intimidated.

Riley turns to Evan, a nervous smile on her face. "It was really great talking to you, Evan, but I have to get upstairs right now before-" She stopped in the middle of her sentence, knowing Maya and Lucas had showed up and were watching them. She turned around nervously to find them on the stairs, narrowing their eyes at her.

"She's wearing the same clothes." Maya noticed, leaning against the rail.

"Who's that?" Lucas demanded, pointing at Evan.

"While we're wearing new different clothes." Maya smiled.

"Who's that?" Lucas narrowed his eyes at Evan.

"She looks sleepy to me." Maya observed.

"Yeah, that one there, who is that?" Lucas questioned, pointing at Evan again.

Riley turns to her parents with wide eyes, hoping to get help from them. "Ma-Dad!"

"You got caught, kid." Cory shrugged.

"You know what helps though?" Topanga asked with a small smile.

"Nothing." Cory grimaced and Topanga nodded in agreement, a grimace on her face as well.

"Yeah." Topanga agreed.

"Well, they were great help." Brylee sarcastically commented, watching them walk away quickly.

"We're not gonna be good help either." Bennett spoke, gaining a confused look from Brylee.

"Why?" She asked.

"'Cause I don't wanna get ourselves dragged into this mess. So let's go for a walk." Bennett decides, intertwining his hand with hers and tugging her gently to the front door. "Good luck, Riley."

"Thanks." Riley mumbles as she watches them leave the lodge. "I'm gonna need it."

Brylee had to admit she was glad she wasn't involved with what was going on. It was a lot. She loved her sister and Riley, but she didn't want to get involved with their messes sometimes. And sometimes they needed to figure it out themselves without anyone else's help. So for the time being, the couple spent time away from the others and spent some time together on their own. The leaves changing colors was definitely beautiful and the trees were breathtaking. The couple was sure they would never get tired of the sight. They had spent time admiring the scenery, talking about a bunch of random topics, and laughing and smiling the whole time. Their walk had taken a turn and now they found themselves at a nearby lake.

"It's beautiful." Brylee grinned, sitting on a boulder and looking out at the lake. It was the most beautiful lake she had ever seen and she had to say she was in love with the lake. It was a lake she could stare at forever.

"Yes, you are." Bennett agrees, leaning down and pressing a quick kiss to her cheek. Her cheeks turn red and she couldn't help but smile. He always managed to make her blush with his compliments and the sweet things he said.

"Thanks, Benny." She grins. "I was talking about the lake though."

"I was talking about you." He responded, taking her hand and bringing it to his lips. He pressed a gentle kiss to her knuckles and his lips curl into a smile as she blushed once again.

"I-um, uh..." She stutters, her words failing her and unable to form a sentence. "Just kiss me already." She stammered, her face turning more red.

"Since you asked so nicely." He teased and closed the distance between their lips. He wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her closer to him. Her arms wrapped around his neck, her fingers playing with the hair at the nape of his neck. She loved being in his arms and kissing him. It was the best feeling ever.

After they pulled apart, she couldn't help but smile brightly. He returned the smile and pressed a chaste kiss to her lips before taking a seat on the boulder beside her. His arm subconsciously went around her shoulders and she leaned into him, resting her head on his shoulder. His arm tightened around her and she took his free hand in hers, intertwining their fingers together. They spent the next few minutes sitting on the boulder, looking out at the lake while talking and stealing a few kisses every now and then.

Brylee was very glad she had decided to be a chaperone for this trip. Even if the trip had been a mess with the love triangle, she still had an amazing time. The scenery was breathtaking and the company was amazing. She couldn't have asked for a better time.

****

Brylee was currently unpacking her things in her room later that day. She glanced over at the door to her room when she heard a knock and smiled at seeing Maya. Maya had been hanging out at Riley's and had just got back.

"Hey, you're back." Brylee noticed.

"Yep." Maya replied, walking in and taking a seat on Brylee's bed.

"So, everything went okay? What happened with the love triangle thing and Evan?" Brylee asks, continuing to put clothes away. She pauses, grimacing and glances at Maya. "Or do I even wanna know?"

Maya chuckles and shakes her head. "Everything is good. Great, actually. Lucas picked Riley, I think in some way I always knew he would pick her, they're perfect for each other. I don't like him though...I like Josh." Brylee smiles softly as she listens to Maya, staying quiet and letting her continue to explain. "We're gonna play the long game. Hopefully down the line something will happen."

"Good. I'm happy for you." Brylee responds, walking over and taking a seat beside Maya. "You deserve nothing but happiness." She commented, wrapping her arms around her sister to hug her. Maya hugged her back and sighed, resting her head on her shoulder.

"You do, too." Maya smiles, pulling away a moment later. "Thank you."

"For what?" She asked, tilting her head to the side.

"Everything. Always being here for me, listening, giving advice, protecting me, everything." Maya replied, grabbing her hand and squeezed it.

"That's what sister's are for. That's what big sisters are for." Brylee smiles, squeezing Maya's hand back. "I'll always be here for you."

"I know." Maya smiles, giving her a hug once more. "I'll always be there for you too." Brylee smiles and nods in response, hugging her back. "So...How was it spending some alone time with Bennett?" She teased, wiggling her eyebrows at Brylee when they pulled away from the hug.

"Maya." Brylee complained, her face turning red as she playfully shoved Maya.

"What?" Maya laughs. "I'm curious!" Brylee laughed and rolled her eyes, but told her about the walk and the lake. Maya listened intently and smiled when she saw how happy her sister was. She was happy that Brylee had found someone to love her. She deserved nothing but the best and she was sure Bennett was the one for her. He made her the happiest she had ever seen her sister and that's all she could ask for.
