Chapter Twenty-Four
Evelyns hand slid across the white cotton sheets, she had hoped to be greeted by the forever warm frame of her boyfriend. The bed however was empty.
"Always the early riser." She huffed, her head falling back into her pillow. She was just able to peek at the clock on the nightstand to see she had plenty of time to sleep before she was due at work. On mornings she wasn't quite awake enough to function, she was glad she didn't have to rush to deal with D.C. traffic.
Once it hit 7:30 AM, however — she knew it was time to roll her lazy ass out of bed. She showered and dressed before flipping on the news while her coffee was brewing.
Nothing particularly noteworthy stuck out on the daily news, morning traffic jams, weather reports and news on an upcoming exhibit coming to the Smithsonian.
Evelyn tuned it out while checking the email on her phone— until the blaring of an emergency alert system sounded through the television.
"We interrupt this broadcast to announce of an intergalactic attack on London." A panicked news reporter called out in a chagrined tone. Evelyn tossed her phone beside her on the couch to give the television her full attention.
"Nearly one year after the attack on New York City, earth is once again under attack by an unknown alien species."
The picture shifted to London, where there were crushed taxis and buses and a large crater in the center of the street. A spacecraft as tall as the buildings housed itself in the center, and dozens of unknown beings were running around at the base of it.
Two seconds later the image of Thor's large frame landed in the cameras frame.
"You've got to be kidding me." Evelyn mumbled, her eyes wide.
"We have no information on who or what these unknown beings want, but they have already leveled several roads in Greenwich. It appears the God of Thunder — Thor, has made an appearance and is initiating an assault against them."
Thor's hammer flew past a shaky camera, and Evelyn could hear civilians screaming in the background. Foreign beings with white pointy ears and pale icy skin ran around with weapons aimed to kill. The camera caught a glimpse of two cars evaporating before static overtook the screen.
It took Evelyn all of two seconds to react. She slipped on her shoes, slid her arms through her jacket and her pot of coffee sat abandoned on the kitchen counter. And in a whir of blue, she was gone.

Evelyn ducked down almost the second her feet made contact with the wet cement of the London streets. The aliens were quick to aim their weapons at the bight blue portal that appeared from thin air. She blasted them backwards before throwing herself behind an overturned taxi.
She fought against any enemies that came near her, all while trying to navigate towards the center of the chaos where she was hoping to find Thor. Just as she was losing hope, he fell through a portal of his own and landed beside her.
"Hey, that's my move. You've got the lightening, I've got the portals." She joked, catching his attention. His blonde hair whipped around his head and his smile brightened upon seeing her.
"Lady, Eva!" He exclaimed, pulling her tiny frame into his. She grunted as his hammer gently knocked against her back, and she quickly hugged him back. "What are you doing here?"
"I'm the only one with the power to get anywhere in two seconds. What do you need from me? And what's going on?"
"I'll have to explain later. Right now I need you to do what you did in New York, and protect the civilians. And I need you to protect Jane, you don't know her but—"
"Dr. Jane Foster. I know what she looks like." Evelyn responded, her eyes already on the lookout for the brunette she had seen dozens of times on S.H.I.E.L.D reports. Graduate of Culver University, and the worlds leading astrophysicist. She could practically recite her report in her sleep. It wasn't until Loki's attack on New York and the tesseract, that things she had seen throughout her life finally started to make sense.
S.H.I.E.L.D was watching Jane, because she was watching Thor. S.H.I.E.L.D kept tabs on anyone they felt could benefit them in some way or go against them, and she never thought her own name would be listed among people like Bruce Banner and Loki Laufeyson, but here she was. Highly lethal. Enhanced individual. Death count:52.
She would never forget it. And neither would anyone else.
"We shall speak later." mumbled Thor with a nod of his head. He swung his hammer before taking to the skies, coming in contact with an alien flying overhead.
Evelyn was quick to run though the streets, blasting enemies and helping fallen civilians get to safety through her portals. Rain had begun to fall from the skies, causing Evelyn's hair to stick to her face every time she turned her head.
A moment after sending an alien into a portal, she caught sight of Jane's familiar face across the street. She was accompanied by another woman with darker hair and a taller man with a hood pulled against his head. Evelyn quickly sprinted across the street in their direction.
"Jane!" She called out, dodging the various debris that littered the ground. Jane turned her head and her brows furrowed in confusion. "Thor sent me, I'm –"
"Dr. Evelyn Stark. I know who you are." Jane answered, a soft smile crossing her lips.
"Stark? Like Iron Man?" the second woman asked.
"He's my brother," said Evelyn. "I've read your S.H.I.E.L.D files, but you know who I am?"
"Of course I do. Your thesis on thermoneucular actuators helped shape the design for many of my telescopes." Jane's eyebrows practically rose up to her hairline as she spoke enthusiastically about both of their works. Had there not been an intergalactic attack on earth, Evelyn would have loved to pick her brain about so many things.
"Uh, you guys can gab about science mumbo jumbo later, there are elves attacking us right now!" The other woman cried out, looking on as a group of them were walking in their direction, weapons raised.
Evelyn raised a hand, and with a bright blue beam all five of them went flying.
"Whoah." The man said, his eyes wide.
"Thor sent me to protect you, you do what you need to do, and I'll keep these ugly bastards away from you." Evelyn told them, her hands at the ready.
"Deal." Said Jane with a nod of her head. She slipped a contraption out from under her coat and twisted knobs in various directions. Out of nowhere a massive pile of shoes came flying from the sky, through a portal out of thin air.
"What the hell was that?" Evelyn cried out, glancing up into the rainy sky in anticipation for more.
"I can't really explain." Mumbled Jane, turning a few more knobs on her device. "We just need to give Thor enough time to do what he needs to do."
"If you needed portals, you could have asked." Evelyn joked, creating one beside them.
Another turn of her knob, and the other two people with them disappeared.
"What the hell." Jane grumbled. A few more elves popped up behind Jane, and Evelyn blasted them backwards before making eye contact with her.
"That energy signature is so familiar." She mumbled, glancing between her device and Evelyn with curious eyes. "That was you fighting in New York wasn't it?"
"All thanks to the tesseract." Evelyn shrugged. "Wrong place, wrong time."
"I can relate to that." Jane said, her eyes turning sympathetic before turning to the sky. "Thor's back."
Thor and another form flew threw the sky, before disappearing once more through a portal in the ground. He reappeared through the sky and the pair of them seemed to be fighting each other in a loop. Jane turned her contraption and the pair of them finally landed on solid ground.
Jane ran out into the street, her concentration fully on Thor and the machine in her hands. Evelyn followed along obediently, keeping any enemies away. Evelyn fought off anything that came near them for what felt like ages before suddenly they all disappeared, along with the tall shard that had been housed in the center of the street.
Quiet ensued, the rain hitting the broken down cars and the pieces of debris falling from buildings, were the only sounds to be heard. Jane sighed before slinking onto the curb behind her. "It's finally over."
Thor soon landed in front of them, marching up to Jane and pulling her up into his large arms. "Are you injured?" He asked her.
"Let a girl breathe for a second." Jane mumbled, slinking her tiny arms around Thor's large frame. "I'm fine."
"And you, Lady Eva, are you hurt?" Thor asked, pulling Jane into his side, his hammer dangling from the opposite hand.
"A little hungry since I skipped breakfast, but other than that I'm okay" She responded, sending him a smile.
"Well, I see no time like the present to introduce you to a great Asgardian feast!" Thor boomed.
"I really need to get back to D.C, Steve is going to be wondering where I am."
"The captain I'm sure will understand. You will love Asgard, and I want to introduce you to my father. I have told him much about the mortal who possesses the powers of the tesseract."
"Asgard really is beautiful." Jane added.
"Do you have a phone I can use?" Evelyn asked her. Jane nodded and quickly slid a flip phone out of her pocket. Evelyn sent a quick text to Steve's number, seeing as she didn't think to bring her phone to fight an alien attack.
I'm fine. With Thor.

"Will you be joining as well?" Thor asked, turning to Jane. She shook her head before taking the phone back from Evelyn.
"I need to find Darcy, Ian, and Erik. They went through a portal so they've got to be around here somewhere."
"Once I've seen Asgard I can portal you there whenever you like." Evelyn told her.
"That would be wonderful! We shall be back for you, Jane!" Thor's exuberant voice echoed around them on the empty street. He placed a quick kiss on her lips before pulling Evelyn into his side.
He gave her no warning or time to prepare before he shouted to the sky and a bright light engulfed them. It took several minutes but eventually she realized she was no longer on earth.
