Bareilly wale jhumke pe jiya lalchaye

Kamar lachkaye toh lakhon gir jaayein

'Uff ho! Papa. Not like that.' Rashi irritably paused the video. Randhir stopped amidst shaking his hips. Rashi slapped her forehead shaking her head disappointedly. Randhir looked confused. He is doing as she said him to.

Rashi walked up to Randhir, she pointed her fingers to her earlobes, - 'Keep them here and move like this. And,'- She held Randhir's hips and tilted them little, - 'Shake them like this.' She demonstrated for him.

Randhir nodded.

'Hmmm.' Rashi frowned and observed her father's hip movement carefully.

'There is something missing.' Rashi thought aloud and hurriedly left the living room. Randhir groaned.

Soon, Rashi entered the room carrying a bundle of clothes. Randhir looked inquisitively as she unfolded it. His eyes widened on seeing there are two dupattas; one long and one small. Rashi handed him the long one and took the small one for herself.

'Do like this.' She guided her father. Randhir watched as she placed her dupatta on the side and took it diagonally. She tied a knot on the side. Randhir is impressed. But he felt foolish doing it himself.

'Do I have to?' He asked

Rashi nodded and added, - 'It will give you feels.'

Randhir shivered- Feels? It sounds so creepy at so many levels.

After two to three minutes of clumsy hip-shaking by both the parties, Rashi sighed and looked at her father.

'That's all Mumma taught me.' She blinked at Randhir. He kept looking at her. Rashi sighed again and explained, - 'Now, you have to teach me the rest.'

Randhir's mouth dropped. Him? Teach her? But he doesn't even know D of Dancing.

Randhir began to have second thoughts but when he looked at his princess's fallen face, he was determined to help her.

'Arey! Of course. First Let me watch the entire video?' Randhir said cheerily. He felt happy watching Rashi's face instantly light up.

Randhir sat and watched the dance carefully. Rashi observed her dad closely. After a while, she interrupted, - 'You are staring the actress, Papa. I will tell Mamma.' She chuckled. Randhir looked at her and smiled.

He pretended to be scared. 'Please don't.'

They looked at each other and laughed.

Randhir noted there are few random hand movements, hip shaking and some jumping to do. That is what he is going to teach Rashi. And he has made up his mind to get that Princess Doll and Castle his little one was so badly crying for a few days ago as compensation after she loses the recital.

Rashi at first was suspicious seeing her father dance like an idiot but then he is her father and he is never wrong. So, she copied him without any questions. Both were clumsy and both secretly knew they were doomed.

I will ask for Dina Doll and Castle after I lose- Rashi mentally decided while shaking her hips and waving her arms to the peppy number.

I will ask for something pricier as well – She added with an inward devilish smile.

'Rashi, you are doing it wrong. Where is your mind?' Randhir's voice broke the little girl's thought. She nodded assuring her father that she is very much into the performance.

After three hours of excruciating dancing, they called it quits and slumped on the sofa together. They looked at each other and smiled meekly.

'We are doomed.' Both mentally thought

One week later,

Randhir kept pacing in the living room glancing at his watch repeatedly. The mother-daughter duo is taking so much time to get ready while he took only fifteen minutes to dress in a semi-casual Grey Tee, black blazer, and Denim with brown shoes. And the women.

He rolled his eyes and walked up to a mirror near the main door and began adjusting his hair with his fingers.

'Papa!' Rashi chirped and Randhir turned around. He felt proud watching his little princess climbing down stairs. She looked terribly adorable in blue short Kurthi and burgundy printed Patiala with her Dupatta placed on her right shoulder and taken diagonally, the edge knotted at her hip. Her hair tied in a neat ponytail and little lipstick, powder, and blush adorning her face. Sanyukta has done a good job with the kid.

'Aww.' Randhir opened his arms for her but Rashi stopped few steps ahead of him and shook her head. Randhir pouted.

'My dress will be spoilt.' She responded cutely. Randhir smiled. He wanted to pinch her cheeks but resisted.

Father-daughter waited for twenty minutes more till Sanyukta climbed down. Randhir is awed watching Sanyukta climbing down. She looked stunning in black and red saree, her hair open and resting on her shoulder.

'Let us go.' Sanyukta held Rashi's hand and the two began walking when Rashi stopped.

'Papa?'

Sanyukta and Rashi turned around and found Randhir still gaping at Sanyukta. She frowned and called him. Randhir closed his mouth and nodded. Sanyukta shook her head and turned around. Randhir smiled watching her go, his gaze fell on the tattoo that peeked little from behind her half sleeve black blouse. Randhir loves looking at it. Like always, it gives him a strange kind of happiness.

Randhir had wanted to sit in the front row but first few rows were for VIPs. Sanyukta held his arm and dragged him towards the back as he cursed furiously. Sanyukta rolled her eyes. Randhir is worried because Rashi looked visibly scared when they had left her backstage. He wanted to sit in the vicinity of the stage so his daughter can see them and doesn't freak out. Sanyukta and Randhir chose a seat carefully, Randhir straightened in his seat to appear larger. Soon, the lights were dimmed and the function started.

Randhir patiently waited for his daughter's turn. The other girl and boys were good. Amrita Devi from Rashi's class did exceptionally well. Watching her break dance like a pro made Randhir more nervous. Comparatively, Rashi is an amateur especially after he gave her the training.

'Now, it's Rashi Shekawat on Sweety Tera Drama.' A class teacher announced. Randhir shifted in his seat. Sanyukta held his hand and blinked at him slowly. Randhir nodded and looked at the stage worriedly.

Rashi walked up to the center. She looked around searching for her parents. Randhir felt desperate to be seen by his little girl. The music began and Rashi fumbled. She was clearly frightened. Sanyukta clenched Randhir's arm tightly. She felt her eyes watering.

Rashi missed few steps as well. Randhir then stood up and clapped. He caught everyone's attention.

'That's my girl!' Randhir waved his arms happily. Rashi caught her father and smiled broadly. Randhir kept waving till security came and requested him to sit.

Rashi got much more confident now. And every time she looked at her parents Randhir kept showing her thumbs-up.

Soon, all the performances ended and the anchor, a young class teacher dressed in chiffon floral saree walked up to the center.

'Well, that was some wonderful performances by everyone.' She said confidently. Everyone clapped. Once again, Randhir sat at the edge of his seat.

'And the winner is...'

Randhir watched nervously as the woman opened the envelope.

She read the name and then looked up beaming at everyone. There is complete silence in the auditorium.

'Third Runner-up: Master Vinod Singh

Second Runner-up: Rashi Oberoi' Randhir hit the armrest with his fist angrily.

'And the winner is.' The teacher stopped for a dramatic pause and smiled at the audience. Randhir kept mumbling curses while Sanyukta caressed his arm to calm him down.

'Amrita Devi!'

The entire auditorium echoed with claps and cheers. Randhir and Sanyukta were the only ones who didn't clap.

Sanyukta hurried to the backstage and found Rashi sitting silently on the chair, her head lowered. Randhir joined Sanyukta, the two glanced worriedly at each other.

'Mera Bacha.' Sanyukta called. Rashi looked up. Randhir's heart fell seeing her red face and teary eyes. He felt guilty.

'Mamma.' Rashi cried climbing down. She opened her arms and ran towards her mother. Sanyukta scooped her in her arms and hugged her tightly. She whispered encouraging words but Rashi kept crying. Randhir had tears in his eyes too.

'No problem, beta. It happens. You did so well. You are the winner for us.' Sanyukta caressed her hair consoling her. Rashi kept crying. She isn't upset because she lost, she is upset because she messed up in the beginning and disappointed her parents especially her father who worked so hard for her.

Sanyukta separated their frames and wiped Rashi's tears and continued to console her. Randhir had enough of seeing his baby cry. So, he quickly wiped his tears and took a deep breath.

He forced a smile. 'Who wants Puchka?' (Paani puri) He announced brightly.

Rashi stopped crying instantly. 'Me.' She said in a small voice and sniffed. Randhir kneeled beside her and picked her up in his arms.

'Then let us go.' He kissed her cheek. Seeing her father happy, Rashi smiled.

'Thank you, Papa.' She hugged him.

'Aww.' Sanyukta gushed and hugged them both.

The trio then left and happily had Puchka in one of the famous chat restaurants. Rashi had extra few and loads of kisses from her parents.

Rashi is a happy girl. Though she didn't win young Rashi went to sleep with a smile on her lips. She slept in between her parents on their bed. She is nearly never allowed in her parent's room at night and so she is happier.
