Ch. 2: My Destiny
The next day, Luz opened her eyes and looked around.
"Hmm, so it wasn't all a dream." Luz said with a smile, walking to the window of her new room.
She opened it and took a deep breath of the demon realm's air, finding it a nice change from Earth's and Hell's.
"Good morning, demon realm!" Luz said happily.
"Good morning!" A strange sea beast said, waving to Luz before submerging into the boiling sea.
"What a nice guy." Luz said before she closed her window.
Luz went to her tome and began to flip through it.
"Let's see, what to wear today?"
"Can I wear a cape?" King asked, waking up with his new crown still on his head.
"Isn't the crown enough?" Luz asked him, grinning.
"Yes, but a little cape won't hurt." King said with a chuckle.
Luz looked at her book and began chanting in a strange language, like nothing anyone has ever heard before.
"Weh?" King let out in confusion, thinking it was all gibberish.
Suddenly, King was in a tiny royal suit with a cape.
"So, how do you feel?" Luz asked.
"Whoa! It feels amazing!" King said, looking himself over from front to back! "I finally look like a proper demon king!"
"I quite agree." Luz said before chanting again.
Her pajamas became black pants, black steel toed boots with dried blood on them, a black shirt with demonic imagery on it, a black jacket, black fingerless gloves, and even sunglasses with red pentagrams on the lenses.
"Now how do I look?" Luz asked, putting her book in a large pocket in her jacket.
"Like a total bad girl! It works!" King said with a thumbs up.
"Come on, let's go eat!" Luz said, picking up King and rushing to the kitchen.
Luz left her remodeled room, building up quite the appetite from using all that magic and eager to see what sort of food they have here! It was going to be an interesting first day.
"So, let's see what we got to eat." Luz said, opening the fridge. "Jar full of eyes, severed purple hand, bottle of apple blood, giant green eggs."
"Get the griffin eggs!" King said, pointing to the green eggs.
"Okay." Luz said, "Personally I would've gone with the eyes."
"You like pickled eyeballs?" King asked.
"In half demon, I like a lot of things." Luz said, grabbing the griffin eggs AND the pickled eyeballs, "Oh, they smell fresh."
Luz went to the stove and pulled out a frying pan before cracking the eggs onto it. She had a few pickled eyes to eat before she began cooking.
"I thought you would have people cooking for you." King said, "I didn't know you could cook."
"Well, my dad does have servants that does the cooking, but I also liked to learn as well." Luz said.
The smell woke up Eda.
"Hmm? Something is cooking." Eda said, stumbling out of her room. "Is King trying to cook again?"
Eda walked downstairs and saw the demonic Heiress.
"Nope, it's all me. I'm making it up as I go but o think it's turning out well." Luz said, stirring the griffin eggs and eyeballs in the pan.
"I thought fancy people don't cook." Eda said.
"I still liked to learn myself. Can't rely on servants for everything." Luz said.
"Now, how do you like your eyes?"
".....Lightly salted and peppered." Eda said, walking to the fridge.
Luz opened her demon book and held her hand out while chanting, causing the two ingredients to appear in her hand.
"Got it. Unblessed salt and ghost pepper powder." Luz said.
"I meant normal salt and pepper but hell, I'll try it." Eda said, pulling out a bottle of apple blood.
By the time Eda sat down, Luz put a plate in front of her.
"Done! Enjoy!" Luz said with a smile.
"Dang, you cook fast." Eda said.
"No, you just took a while to wake up." Luz said, putting a plate before King too, "I hope you enjoy. I was taught by a great chef!"
"Really?"
"Yeah, he cooked for the King Louis the XI in 1467... then he killed a dozen people and was hung." Luz said, "He's been the head chef in the castle ever since."
"... One of these days I'm going to ask how the hierarchy of sinning works." Eda said, before taking a bite, "... But not today because this taste amazing!"
"I could tell you right now if you want." Luz said, going to grab her own plate of griffin eggs and eyes.
"I do!" King said with a mouthful.
"As nice as that would be, I have a job for you to do." Eda said, "After all, it would be better if you did it than I, you can shrug off most fatal blows."
"Most but I'm guess you don't have holy water here. Go on." Luz said, eating her breakfast.
"I need you to deliver some potions for me around town." Eda said, drawing a spell circle.
A bag of potions fell into her arms.
"This is some? There has to be thirty bottles in this." Luz said, shaking the sack a bit.
"40 actually. And you'll be delivering them all for me. So, have fun." Eda said, "And if you see someone named Lilith Clawthorne, throw this one at her and tell her it's from her younger sister."
Eda pulled out a small potions called a "Barking Potion".
"What, does it make someone act like a dog?" Luz asked.
"No, it'll turn her into a Lilith shaped tree for 12 hours." Eda said.
"Oh my grandpa that's even worse." Luz said with a small chuckle.
"So, yeah, also that run and then do whatever it is you crazy demons do." Eda said.
"Alright, I'll head out after eating."
"Are you not going to ask about my new suit?" King asked, gesturing to his new "royal" garb.
Eda rolled her eyes.
"Cool, where'd ya get it?" Eda asked.
"Luz made it for me with her book." King said with a smile.
"I mean, a King needs to have a royal outfit!" Luz said, "You should see the stuff my dad wears, high quality material."
"Do you have pictures?" King asked.
"I do. I'll show you later and maybe make some for you later." Luz said.
"YES!" King cheered!
"Well, since you two LOVE each other so much, you BOTH can make the deliveries." Eda said, drinking more apple blood.
"Fine!" Luz said, "Us Demons are stronger together than apart!"
"Yeah! Suck it, witch!" King cheered, pointing at Eda.
Eda gave them a blank look before putting down her mug.
"Breakfast is over. Get to work." Eda said, drawing a spell circle.
The plates were cleaned up and Eda walked away. King looked at Luz.
"Too far?" He asked.
"Little bit." Luz said, "Come on, let's go."
Luz picked up the sack and walked to the door, King jumping onto his shoulder as she passed him.
"We'll be back soon!" King shouted to Eda.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever." Eda said.
'I hope they get eaten by something.' Eda thought, a bit bitter from that "suck it" comment.
Luz and King walked into town.
"Wow, this is nothing like hell." Luz said, looking around the town in the day time.
"Let me guess, no suffering souls or torture?" King asked.
"Nope!" Luz said with a grin.
"But also, I don't have guards following me every second of the day."
"Must be nice half the time." King said to her.
"Naw, but, you know, they were just doing their jobs." Luz said, making it to the first delivery spot.
"Alright, first stop." Luz said.
Luz moved to ring the door bell but pulled her finger back, sensing life energy from it.
"Are some houses here alive?" She asked.
"Some of them."
"Cool. None are alive in Hell." Luz said before knocking in the door.
No one opened, but the house tried to bite Luz, causing her to growl.
"Either this house IS the customer or this was just a trap." Luz said, taking a step back. "King, could you get my book?"
King pulled the book out.
"Want me to open it?" King asked.
"Page 29, if you would be so kind." Luz said, glaring at the living house.
King nodded as he quickly turned the pages, making it to page 29 as Luz asked.
He turned the book so Luz could see and her eyes started glowing.
"Int as lit nock tonce!" Luz chanted.
The book gave off a mist of magic energy before it blasted into the living house!
"Ah, a good old paralysis spell." Luz said, "King, drop off the potions for here and let's go, the spell only last five minutes."
"Weh!" King let out, climbing into the sack and pulling out the potions. "Got em."
He jumped off and put the bottles on the doorstep, rushing back to Luz.
"Alright little buddy, let's go!"
King nodded as he jumped in Luz's shoulder, pointing the way to the next house as the living house slowly became normal... well, Demon Realm normal at least.
The two kept walking.
"So, do you know what this Lilith person looks like?" Luz asked, tossing the barking potion in the air and catching it.
"Yeah. I know her from the crystal ball and posters." King said, pointing to a poster in a wall.
Luz gazed at it and saw a woman that could be a younger looking Eda. Only her eyes were somewhat aquamarine green with long and straight purple hair.
"So this is Eda's younger sister?" Luz asked.
"Older actually, don't ask why." King said.
"Know where we can find her?" Luz asked, "I want to see this potion in action."
"No clue where she is, maybe she'll pop up on a patrol?" King said, shrugging his shoulders.
"Okay, where's the next stop?" Luz asked.
"Right around the corner." King said, knowing his way around the town.
"Alright, lets go."
Just like that, the duo spent 2 hours delivering potions around town. Some of them tried to eat or main Luz but she managed to deal with them without hurting any of them.
"Alright so, where's our last stop?" Luz asked.
"It's... hey, there's Lilith." King said, pointing at the dark haired witch, surrounded by a lot of guards.
"Hmm, there's a lot of guards, and I'd like to stay out of a fight right now." Luz said.
Luz saw a way up a building and smirked. She walked up it and got ready to throw it.
'Don't do it, she has done nothing to you, she could be an innocent soul.' Angel said.
'I sense darkness in her, do this, she deserves it.' Demon said.
Luz thought about it.
"Fine, I won't do it." Luz said, putting the potion down.
"What? Why not?" King asked.
"Doesn't matter." Luz said, "Let's go."
As she turned, she heard Lilith speak.
"I hear reports of a human causing trouble, as if a pathetic creature like that could do any real damage." Lilith said, "I doubt they have enough brain cells to even walk in a straight line."
Luz growled. The Angel may have thought it won, but the demon was back for round two. Luz raised the potion and chucked it at Lilith. It hit and Lilith was covered in a potion cloud. When it vanished, Lilith was replaced with a Lilith shaped tree with her arms being raised and her fingers being split into branches. King and Luz were laughing.
"Come on, let's go before they spot us." Luz said, wiping a tear from her eye.
"Y-Yeah! I wish we had a camera first though!" King said.
The two demons quickly rushed to the final delivery on the list.
They rushed through an alleyway to a tarp at the end, covering the final location of the delivery.
'Wait, what is this feeling? This magic.' Luz thought, approaching the tarp.
Something about it... didn't feel right.
"This is our last stop?" Luz asked, grabbing the tarp.
"Yep, right behind the tarp." King said as Luz pulled it back, gasping at the sight.
Luz pushed past it and saw a massive castle. It was exactly like a fairy tale castle. White as pearls and shining brightly on the sunlight.
'This isn't normal, something is wrong.' Luz thought.
Luz slowly approached to door and pushed the door bell, finding even the ringing too perfect to be real. The door slowly opened.
"Somethings wrong." Luz said, "Stay close."
"Okay, sure." King said, getting a bad feeling about this place as well. "Let's just drop off the potions and get out of here. Pretty as this place is, Eda always warned me about them."
"Yeah, my dad told me about places like this too." Luz said, before they heard a noise.
'Someone is here.' Luz thought, looking up as multiple wall torches turned on before them.
A shiny, magical wizard stepped out.
'Oh, you fucking serious?' Luz thought, 'Do I look like an idiot?'
"Luz, be wary of old wizards." King quickly whispered to Luz.
"Trust me I know." Luz whispered back as the wizard walked down the steps.
"I was in the oscillarium, gazing at the stars, until I heard a kind soul walk into my humble abode." The wizard said, smiling at the duo.
'Ha! Kind soul? I'm a demon, my soul was born black as night.' Luz thought, 'Still, should play along until I get a bit of information.'
""Hi, I'm just here to-" Luz was cut off as the wizard rushed to her.
"My young lady, pardon me but, I sense something...special about you." He said, still smiling at Luz.
"Special?" Luz asked.
"Yes. Almost like.....destiny called you to my doorstep." The wizard said before pulling back. "And forgive me for being bold but would you both like to join me for tea?"
"We would love too." Luz said.
'Destiny... that's a word I don't like hearing.'
Luz's destiny was ALWAYS meant to be destruction on Earth but here.
"Come, come, the tea is getting cold."
Luz put the sack of potions down and walked to the wizard as he summoned a table with chairs and pipping hot tea. Even a display shelf of small cakes and scones. Luz sat down and looked at the wizard. He gave Luz a calm smile as she could see his beard was sparkling in the light as well as a baby fox as inside of it!
'Okay, what the fuck is this?!' Luz's devil side said in shock and irritation.
'I have to agree, what is he trying to do here?' Luz's angel said.
"So, what did you want to talk about?" Luz asked.
"Oh, I just can't help but see how special you are... you are the one destined to pull the celestial staff from the stone, I can just tell!" He said
"The celestial staff?" Luz asked, pretending to be amazed as king began eating the tea cakes and scones.
"A legendary staff that only the most pure hearted could wield. And I think that is you." The wizard said.
'Oh, you'll be in a world of disappointment.' Luz thought.
"Oh, tell me more." Luz said.
"Gladly but one questions first. Would you be willing to do a quest?" The wizard asked.
"A quest?!" Luz asked, faking excitement again.
"Yes!" The wizard said, "A quest to claim the celestial staff and vanquish an ancient evil!"
"Oh, I would love that! I just need to do something first. King." Luz turned around and opened her book, "Duck."
Before anyone could blink, Luz whipped around and sliced the wizard in two with a Katana. The Wizard turned to dust and Luz put the sword in its sheath.
"So, are you going to show your true self?" Luz asked, "Or are you going to hide behind these... fakes?"
"Weh?!" King shouted in shock, dropping a serving platter.
Luz stood still for a minute, waiting. Several tentacles came out and impaled her from several directions. She dropped the sword and blood spilt onto the floor as the illusion dropped and a destroyed castle replaced the intact one.
"You are a wise one." Adegast said, revealing himself to be a giant pink octopus, "Well... were a wise one."
"LUZ!" King shouted in horror, seeing his friend was instantly "killed."
Only for Luz to give King a subtle wink as she played "dead". Adegast dropped her.
"Pathetic human." He said.
King rushed to check on Luz before Adegats grabbed him with a tentacle!
"Let me go!" King said before being brought face to face with Adegast.
"I think not! I need at least one of you alive to lure the owl lady to me and you've been nominated." He said to King.
Something sharp was thrown and cut the tentacle off, causing King to fall. Adegast screamed in pain as the knife Luz threw hit the wall with a thunk.
"That was not the worst time I've died but it still pissed me off." Luz said, her pierced body healing as she sat up.
She picked up her Katana and smiled.
"Come on, I'll show you why I'm the most powerful demon to ever exist." Luz said.
"A-What?! How are you alive?!" Adegast asked in pain.
Luz reached up and cracked her neck, snapping it even, before realigning it.
"The last demon you want to fuck with." Luz said, putting her Katana up.
Luz charged at Adegast, ready to cut him up!
"Stay away!" Adegast shouted, sending more tentacles to stop Luz.
The Antichrist easily sliced through them as she got closer, bathing in his blood.
"Here I come asshole! Get ready to die!" Luz said.
Luz jumped into the air and gave her katana a red glow of magic, planning a finishing move like in anime! She sliced right through several tentacles.
"Take this!" Luz shouted, her sword glowing even brighter as the energy was becoming wild! "Getsuga Tenshou!"
She sliced through him.
"AAAAAAAAH!" Adegast screamed in pain as a wave of energy blasted through him and through the wall behind him!
BOOOOM! An explosion was heard for miles around as a smoke cloud burst from the top of the castle. Blood rained down and bits of meat littered the floor. King was standing in awe of the attack, his jaw dropped and some of the blood getting into his mouth.
"His blood taste bitter." Luz said, before her sword disappeared, "Come on, let's go home."
Luz walked to King and picked up, closing his jaw for him as she walked out of the abandoned castle. They walked home, walking passed a group of coven guards transporting a potted Lilith away. Luz would've laughed if she wasn't so mad right now.
'Try and fool my with a destiny bullshit, I don't even like my own destiny.' Luz thought.
They made it to the Owl House and Luz opened the door and put King on the couch, before stomping up to her room. Stomping so hard that mini earthquakes shook the house as King nearly tumbled off the couch.
"Whoa!" He said, coming out of shock.
"What the hell happened!?" Eda asked.
"Exactly!" King said, "The princess up there got really mad by some squid guy talking about a prophecy and destiny and all that!"
Eda sighed.
"I'll go talk to her."
Eda walked upstairs and arrived at Luz's room, knocking on the door.
"Kid, I'm coming in." Eda said as she got no reply but entered the room anyway.
She gasped at the sight of it, remembering that this was a closet and not a luxury suite!
'Holy shit, I should ask her to do this to my room.' Eda thought, before going over to Luz, face down in her pillow.
"Everything okay, Kid?" Eda asked.
"No, no it's not!" Luz said before sitting up, "That... bastard tried to trick me with a prophecy, well, I already know my destiny, it's to lead to the destruction of mankind!"
Eda gave Luz a sad look before getting an idea.
"Hey, Kid, I have a surprise for you." Eda said, before putting a blindfold on Luz.
She brought Luz outside and sat her down on the staff.
"Just so you know, pushing me off a cliff won't make me feel better." Luz said to Eda.
"Not happening and you need therapy kid. Just sit back and enjoy the ride." Eda said, flying in her staff as King jumped on.
"Wait for me!" He said, climbing up.
"Yeah, yeah, come on." Eda said.
They took off into the air, for a good while.
'Okay, she's not pushing me off a cliff.' Luz thought.
"Okay, you can take that off." Eda said.
Luz took it off and was amazed at the sight of the Boiling Isles, the Titan.
"Whoa." Luz said in awe.
"Behold, Luz. The Bones of the Isles." Eda said, smiling at Luz.
"Okay, not that this isn't cool, why are you showing me this?" Luz asked.
"I wanted to give you a different perspective of the world." Eda said, looking up at a shooting star, "See, you talked about prophecy and destiny, but the thing is... everyone wants to think their special, that there's a destiny waiting for them, but then everyone would die waiting."
Luz looked at Eda.
"What are you saying?" Luz asked.
"What I'm saying is, instead of having someone else pick your future for you, you need to pick it for yourself." Eda said.
"Pick for myself?" Luz said, looking down. "That's...all I've ever wanted but all my life, dad kept telling me that my fate is being the end of the world."
"Well, your dad's not here, is he?" Eda asked with a small grin.
"No... he's not." Luz said, "I... I'm not Princess Luzifer Satania Noceda here... I'm just Luz Noceda, normal demon."
"That's right, kid. Here, you're just Luz Noceda and you get to choose what to do with your life. Not your dad or anyone else." Eda said with a smile.
"And you're gonna be amazing, no matter what you choose!" King said to her, nodding.
Luz smiled while looking at the Titan.
'This is going to be fun.'
