Ch. 17: The Slaughter

When Luz woke up, she was on the couch, with a blanket over her.

"Luz!" King yelled, rushing over and hugging her, "I was worried about you!"

Luz hissed from this lingering pain before slowly hugging King back.

"King? How did I get back here?" Luz asked.

"Hooty and I brought you in, you... didn't look good." King said.

"Just me? What a-" Luz gasped as her memory came back to her and she stood up! "EDA! Lilith took her!"

Luz fell to her knees and hissed in pain as her skin was still burning and she was in pain.

"Don't push yourself, Luz. Your injures haven't healed yet." Hooty said, stretching over to Luz.

"We did the best we can to fix you ourselves but we ran out of healing salve." King said to her.

Luz growled.

"What's wrong with me! I'm a demon, the strongest demon, just behind the Devil himself, and I can't even take out some dumb bitch with dyed hair!?"

'It was fucking holy water! She threw it at us! Where the fuck did she even get holy water?!' Devil side screamed, furious from both the pain and from being beaten by a cheap trick!

'I don't know, but all I do know is that I can't save Eda when they have the only thing that fucking hurts me!' Luz thought, 'I'm pathetic.'

'Hush your mouth, me! You are not pathetic, we were just caught by surprise. Now that we know they have holy water, we can plan for it.' Angel side said.

'But if they have Holy Water, what if they have crosses and other things that can hurt me?'

'Well, Eda has a weapons room, maybe there's armor in there.' Angel side said.

"Luz? You okay?" King asked as he and Hooty gazed at her.

"I'm far from Okay." Luz said, "They have my book, Eda has the portal, with out those... I can't get home. If I can't get home, then I can't get my dad to come and help us!"

"But we can still fight, right? Even without your book, you're still the strongest demon we know." King said to her.

Luz just looked down.

"I can't... they have the one thing that can hurt me... I'm a liability." Luz said, "I failed to help Eda, I failed to heal her... I really am the anti-Christ, I just ruin everything."

"Bullshit!"

Luz looked at King in shock, when did he learn to... okay that might be her fault.

"You've done nothing but help since you got here!" King said, "You helped when Eda became the Owl Beast during the rainstorm, you saved those Blight kids when they got taken on the Knee, you..."

King walked over and hugged her.

"You don't see me as some pet." King said, "You're not some evil being... you're family, and so is Eda."

"The same goes for me. I don't care if you hurt me when I annoyed you or if you just did it for fun, to me that just showed you thought enough about me to keep doing it. To me, that makes you my family too." Hooty said, stretching around Luz and King to hug them.

Luz smiled and stood up.

"Come on King... I'm hungry... for whatever is in place of Lilith's heart." Luz said.

In the Emperor's Castle, Belos was looking at the book. He tried to open it... it zapped him and remained closed.

"AAAAAH!" Belos screamed in pain, smoking from the rejection as he held his chest. "Confounded book. This protection spell is more powerful than I anticipated. I will find a way to open it."

"Without a doubt, you will Emperor Belos." Lilith said, watching from a distance as her beast sister was floating beside her in a bubble.

"Go put your... sister... in a storage room." Belos said, "I shall heal her as soon as I figure out how this book works."

"But sir, wouldn't it be more convenient to heal my sister now and then focus on the book?" Lilith asked.

"It's more than likely that demon is coming this way, I need to find a way to stop her permanently and this book could hold a key to that." Belos said, "Time is of the essences."

"ROOOOOOAH!" Eda, even as the owl beast, roared in hatred at Belos.

"Please, leave me." Belos said to Lilith.

"But-"

"I DON'T HAVE TIME TO DEAL WITH YOUR PATHETIC SISTER RIGHT NOW! LEAVE ME BE OR I'LL JUST TURN HER INTO STONE!" Belos shouted at her.

Lilith bowed.

"Y-y-yes, Emperor Belos."

Lilith quickly exited the throne room with her sister in tow, leaving Belos alone with the demonic book.

'Insufferable wench. She's lucky she's useful or else I wouldn't put up with this worthless dream of hers.' Belos thought before gazing back at the book. 'Now, back to this unholy thing.'

He tried to open it again, but it zapped him before he could even grab it.

"CONFOUNDED DEMON MAGIC!" He shouted as his body hissed with smoke.

He summoned his staff and blasted the book, trying to overpower it.

As this was happening, Luz was marching towards Bonesborough. Did she know how she would get to the castle? No. Was that going to stop her from trying? Hell no. And how was she going to do it? Well, just like everything she's done since she got to the Isles... she was going to wing it.

"So, what's our first step, Luz?" King asked, riding in Luz's hoodie.

Oh, and she had a companion to help her out.

"First stop, Morton. If he has curse fighting elixirs, he's bound to have other types of potions." Luz explained.

"After that, get to the castle."

"Agreed!" King said before they passed a crystal ball shop, seeing a news broadcast. "Wait, look the news!"

Luz walked over, making anyone else nearby move back from her.

"This is Perry Porter reporting for a special announcement live from the Emperor's Coven." An adult with dark skin and glass said, barring a striking resemblance to Gus.

Most like it his father.

"We are receiving word that the Owl Lady is being transported to the conforimitioum. Whether or not it is for petrification or trial, is unknown, we'll give you more information as it becomes available."

'That's good! Now we know where Eda is!' Angel side said.

'But we don't know where our book is. Maybe it would be at the contraband place but the chance is slim.' Devil side said.

'How to get in.' Luz thought, 'Everyone is afraid of me, so I can't just get arrested.'

"Hey, Luz, you still have super strength, right?" King asked her.

"Yeah... I just can't do most magic without it because I'm new. Super strength, fire, speed, all that stuff I was born with." Luz said, "And I can use the spells that I've learned as well."

"Then why don't we, you know, break in!" King asked with a grin.

"...Literally?" Luz asked.

"LITERALLY." King said with affirmation.

"Okay... I like that plan."

'Oh my grandpa, I was so depressed and sad that I forgot I'm still a fucking threat.' Luz thought as she clenched her hands.

"Come on, Kind, we have some guards to slaughter."

Moving away from the crystal ball store, Luz lowered herself into a starting position and prepared every muscle in her arms and legs for a run.

A VERY fast run.

"Hang on, King." Luz said.

Running on all fours, she ran at high speeds.

"WEEEEEEEEEEEH!" King squealed as he held on tightly.

Luz only had one thing in mind... kill. To kill Lilith! To kill the guards! To kill ANYONE that got in her way and stopped her from saving her mentor/Bird parent! She saw RED... and the demon in her was HUNGRY.

Outside the confirmatorioum, two guards were standing watch. Having a conversation many people have probably had.

"Hey, she may be a criminal, but I'd hit that." One said.

"Damn right, The Owl Lady is hot as fuck." The other said, "Hey, do you see tha-"

Luz jumped up and pounced on the guard like how that tiger jumped on that guy riding an elephant in that one video.

"AAAAAAAAH!" He screamed in pain!

Luz roared in his face, actual venom mixed with her spit as it hit his mask. He could feel it burning through his mask, making him shiver in fear as he tried to pull away from Luz!

"Get off him!" The other guard said, aiming his finger at her.

She turned and bit his finger off, swallowing it.

"AHH!" He said, before Luz jumped on him.

She sniffed and could smell the sins on him. She opened her mouth and bit down on his neck. The witch tried to scream as his mouth filled with blood but Luz bit through his vocal cords! The other guard scrambled to his feet and grabbed his spear, stabbing Luz... which only made her angry. She turned and bit down on his head, letting blood run down his mask as she slowly closed her mouth... biting the top of his skull and part of his brain off. With both guards dead, Luz began sniffing the ground, before growling... she caught Eda's scent.

'Eda here! Need find her!' Luz thought, her mind becoming feral as well.

"Luz, come on!" King shouted, attacking a third guard by climbing into his hood and punching his face!

"Ahh!" The guard said, before grabbing King and throwing him on the ground, "Damn, beast!"

Luz stood up and roared at the third, making him realize how badly he might've messed up, before running and pounced on him, clawing at his face, right through his mask. Blood began soaking her hands. Once that guard was dead, Luz grabbed King by the scruff of his neck with her mouth and ran on all fours through the jail.

"I don't know what's going on but go, Luz! I think I can smell Eda!" King said, his sense of smell almost as good as Luz's. "Make this next right!"

She turned right. More guards appeared to stop then, but each one was pounced on and clawed by Luz. She clawed, bit, ate, anything with a heartbeat, did not have one shortly after getting in Luz's vision. All that mattered was saving Eda, nothing else mattered! Especially if it's countless Emperor's Coven scouts and guard with more sins than any person she came across had! Luz would not stop until she made it to Eda.

"Luz! Stop!" King shouted, making the Antichrist girl stop in her tracks. "Eda is right through this door!"

The color seemed to return to Luz's eyes and she stood up.

"King, keep watch." Luz said.

"Right!" King said before Luz reached into her pocket and pulled out a knife.

"Here. Just in case." Luz said, giving him the knife.

King took it and saluted. Luz went into the room. Inside of the room, was a medieval torture dungeon set up with stretching racks, Iron Maidens, and various cages or tools scattered around the room.

'Suddenly, I feel at home.' Luz thought before seeing the center of the room, where her bird parent was lying with a magic chain around her neck.

"Eda!"

Luz burst towards the beast and hugged her tightly, making Eda jolt as she growled before recognizing Luz's smell. The Owl Beast then licked Luz.

"Oh Eda, I am so sorry for this but don't worry, I am going to get you out of here and I am going to find a way to fix you!" Luz said as she back away and focus on the magic chain. "Just a quick break and we're out of here."

She blasted the chain with fire, but it didn't break.

'Okay, so my hell fire won't work. That's fine.' Luz thought, cracking her knuckles. 'Let's see if I can break it or rip it from the floor.'

She reached down to grab it and her hands started burning... they put Holy Water on the chain. But Luz just endured the pain and pulled, snapping the chain and freeing Eda was more important right now.

"Grrrr! Grrrrrrrrr!" Luz growled as she kept pulling and pulling.

The smell of her burning flesh made its way to Eda's nose, making her whimper and yell for Luz to stop! It was enough to break through to Eda, even if it was just for a little bit.

"Luz, stop!"

Eda pushed Luz back, making her let go of the chain as she landed on her ass.

"Eda!?" Luz said in surprise.

"That won't do anything, that is designed to prevent you from breaking it."

"I don't believe that or care! If I can break the chain, I'll break the ground around it!" Luz said as she got up.

"Luz, stop!" Eda said, "You'll only activate the alarm!"

"You think I care!? I've killed dozens of scouts and guards to get here! A few dozen more won't make a damn difference!" Luz said, going back to the chain.

"That's not what it will do!" Eda said, "It'll raise the platform and start the petrification machine!"

"What?! T-Then I'll think of something else! Another way to get you out of here!" Luz said, pacing in front of Eda.

"Luz, I need you to listen to me. You need to get out of here." Eda said, handing Luz to portal key, "Take the key, bring it to hell if you have to, just make sure Belos never gets his hands on it."

"AND leave you and King?! Not an option!" Luz shouted, even when she took the key. "I'm getting you out, I'm getting my book, and we're all leaving this prison together!"

"Luz!" Eda said, "Listen to me... that portal is important, Belos can NEVER get his hands on it, I don't know why he wants that thing, but you have to do everything in your power to not let that happen."

"But... what about you?" Luz asked.

"Ah, don't worry about me kid, I'll be fine." Eda said, knowing she wouldn't be fine.

A flashing light went off and a siren went off, before a cage formed around Eda.

"Kid, you have to get out of here." Eda said, pushing Luz away.

"No, Eda!"

The platform began to rise.

"Goodbye, Luz." Eda said, possibly for the last time.

Luz fell to her knees and just looked defeated. She felt tears form and she broke down... She didn't know how this could get any worse... then the doors.

"There's the girl!" A guard said, as a good 20 rushed in, one holding onto King.

Luz, reaching her breaking point, just simply stood.

"Get on the ground, or we will attack!" The guard said.

Luz just turned around, not phased in the slightest. Her eyes turned black and she held her hands in the air, which made all the guards stop... not of their own accord. Luz closed her hands and the guards burst into fire from the inside. It was painful, terrifying, and was something that made them all realize in their last nanoseconds of life... that Luz had constantly been holding back. Luz picked up King and then began to walk down the corridor... that's when Luz saw her.

"Lilith." Luz growled.

Lilith looked like she had seen a ghost, Luz didn't give a flying fuck why she looked like that... she was going to send Lilith to that ghost.

"Please, you have to-"

Lilith was cut off as Luz lunged at her.

'Not again!' Lilith thought as Luz grabbed her neck and slammed her into the ground!

Lilith kicked Luz off her and stood up, only to be punched in the stomach, sending her back first into the ceiling. Lilith then landed on the ground and Luz grabbed her and threw her into the wall on the other side of the corridor. Lilith was fairly certain that her back was broken.

'And I just finished healing too.' Lilith thought as Luz placed King on her shoulder and walked towards her.

"Wait... you have to listen to-"

Luz grabbed Lilith by the neck and held her above the ground. Luz slammed the knife she gave King into Lilith's hip.

"GUUUUUUH!" Lilith shouted in pain

"Does it hurt?" Luz asked, her voice distorted and spine chilling. "Despite being so powerful, you're helpless. Tell me, Lilith. Does. IT. HURT?"

Luz slammed Lilith into the wall, hurting her even more, while also choking her. Lilith felt her vision getting fuzzy and dark, until Luz delivered a headbutt to her, knocking her out. Luz dropped her.

"The only reason I don't kill you is because I'm short on time." Luz said, walking deeper down the corridor.

"Do you think we'll still be able to save Eda?" King asked.

"We'll find a way. Even if it means hurting this whole damn prison to the ground." Luz said.

Luz hid behind the corner as a couple guards walked passed.

"I hear the Owl Lady is getting petrified." One said.

"Yeah, I'm heading up there to watch." The other said.

Luz watched them walk away.

"King, follow them. Do whatever you can to stall the petrification."

"What are you going to do?"

"I'm going to get my book back and end this... once and for all."

"Are you sure you can find it?" King asked, jumping to the floor.

"It's still connected to me. So if I follow where the link is strongest, I should be able to find it. Now go, hurry." Luz said, pointing to the guards.

"Weh." King said with a salute before following after the two guards.

Luz took off in the other direction. Luz started moving so fast she switched to her quadrupedal sprint. She felt her book close by, and broke down a door that she felt it behind. Luz stood up, only for a bright glow to cause her pain. Luz fell to the ground, as Belos held a crucifix in his hand while he sat on a massive chair.

"Hmm... so we finally meet." Belos said, "The infamous anti-christ... just a teenage girl."

Luz growled and tried to stand up, only for the cross to glow brighter.

"AHH!" Luz yelled.

"Ah ah ah, I wouldn't try moving too much if I were you. Or else the holy power of this cross will reduce you to dust." Belos said, pointing to the cross with his other hand.

'THIS FUCKER! So this the emperor Boscha told me about!' Luz thought as she grit her teeth.

"Let... Eda... go!" Luz yelled, before feeling the burning again.

"And why would I do that? A dangerous criminal like her deserves nothing short of being petrified. It's best to the safety of the public." Belos said.

"Bullshit! You only want to kill her because she doesn't conform to your shitty system!" Luz said, glaring at Belos.

Belos held the cross up more, making it burn Luz more.

"AHHHHH!"

"As expected from a damned beast, all bark and no bite." Belos said, as he summoned the bubble that held Luz's book, "You're nothing without this, aren't you?"

"You don't know that." Luz said with a growl.

'That bubble is in the way but we should be able to connect with it from this distance.' Devil side thought.

"Really?" Belos asked, "Because without it, you're on the ground, not a threat to me."

"Not for long you, giant-" Luz groaned in pain as the light from the cross shined brighter.

"I don't know how you got to this realm but I think it is a sign that I am doing both realms a civic duty by killing you." Belos said before Luz raised her hand. "Begging for mercy won't make me stop."

"Who's begging?" Luz asked before smashing her hand into the floor, kicking up a cloud of dirt.

It blocked the light of the cross, and blocked Belos' vision of her. Luz got up and smirked.

"And just for the record... killing me will get Grandpa VERY mad." Luz said, dashing towards the cross and kicking it out of Belos hand.

"As if God cares for you!" Belos shouted, summoning his staff in place.

'Wait, how does he know about grandpa? He's a witch.' Luz thought as she quickly jumped to the side to dodge a magic blast and jumped to grab her book.

She quickly opened it and pulled out the Grom blade.

'First time using this weapon, huh?' Angel side thought in surprise.

'Yep! And no better time to use it!' Devil side thought with a grin.

Luz charged at Belos, jumping up, spinning in air, and hitting his staff with the sword. Belos was knocked back from the strike, and Luz smirked.

'Oh yeah, this is a REAL good sword' Luz thought as she before she felt a change. 'Oh? And you can change at will? Let's see what you can do!'

Luz charged at Belos again as Grom sword transformed into a bladed chain whip! Luz swung it at Belos, hitting him right in the chest.

"Ugh!" Belos grunted in pain before firing more magic at Luz, but she just used the chain to destroy each blast.

"Come on, where's all the talk now?" Luz asked.

"Quiet you vile abomination!" Belos shouted, flying into the air and creating a giant worm like creature to attack Luz!

"... Oh you're making me hungry."

Luz jumped in the air and shot fire at the worm. It screamed as it was burned by the flames before Luz grabbed it and took a large bite out of it!

'Not bad.' Luz thought, swallowing the flesh and looking for Belos.

"Come on out, you ugly bastard." Luz said.

Luz made sure her book was close as she used a spell to increase her senses and was on guard for Belos using her sight, smell, and hearing. Luz felt a blast of magic coming towards her, and jumped over it.

"Too slow!" Luz mocked as she turned her Grom in a shotgun and poured her magic power into it.

She waited for the next attack and turns to Belos, pulling the trigger as a "buckshot" made of her magic flew at him! Belos put a barrier up to block it, which served as a good distraction. Luz used her smoke phasing and traveled past the barrier, before reforming and punching Belos, knocking him across the room.

"You don't understand how outmatched you are, do you?" Luz asked, opening her book again, "Now let Eda go before I get mad."

Belos started to pick himself up, and pointed his staff at Luz. He blasted magic at her and she dodged... which is what he wanted. When Luz dodged, she inadvertently brought the book close, which ended up getting hit by the blast. Luz looked as her book was destroyed.

"NOOOO!" Luz shouted in horror.

"Not so strong now, are you?" Belos asked.

He swung his staff at Luz... but it broke in half. Luz turned and glared at him.

"My power isn't just restricted to that book... but that book was one of a kind, a gift from my dad." Luz growled, as her eyes started glowing.

She backhanded him, sending him across the room. Luz stormed up to him and grabbed him by his mask's horn things. She delivered a knee that cracked the mask. Luz then slammed his head into the ground, before throwing him back towards the chair. Luz would've kept going, if it wasn't for Eda's scream ringing out as the petrification started.

"Eda!" Luz said, as she was about to go save her.

Right as she was about to go, Belos picked up the cross and started burning her again.

"AHHH!"

"I'm a kind man." Belos said, "So I'm willing to overlook this entire fight... give me the portal, and I'll let you save her... and please make your decision quick, I don't think you or her have much time."

Luz, in so much pain that she couldn't even scream anymore let alone talk, pressed the eye on the key. The portal was summoned and Belos put the cross down. Luz started breathing heavily and held the portal close for a minute.

"Here." Luz said, holding it out.

"The titan will be pleased." Belos said, "Go, pretend to be a hero, beast."

Luz walked onto the platform that would take her up. It started rising before she turned around.

"One thing you should know." Luz said, holding her hand up, "Don't make a deal with the Devil."

She closed her fist and the portal door had a glowing pentagram on it. The portal exploded in Belos hand, also destroying the cross. Belos glared at Luz, with glowing blue eyes, meeting Luz's red eyes.

'Don't pretend to be an angel.' Luz thought.

She arrived at the top. Looking forward, Luz saw Eda AND King inside of a cage that was being hit by a magic beam from a three faced statue. Loading her Grom-shotgun with more magic, Luz fired several buckshot at the faces to destroy them and shut off the beam.

"Guards, sto-"

Kikimora was cut off as Luz glared at her, the way a bear looks at a deer it's about to mual.

"Just... try not to get too close." Kikimora said, very scared of the already on edge demon.

Luz walked to the cage and grabbed the bars, then proceeded to rip the front part of it off.

"Are you okay, Eda?"

"Ugh, define okay." Eda said, still as the owl beast while her body was slowly turning back to flesh instead of stone.

"You're not a statue, so that's good. King?" Luz asked, looking at the smaller demon.

"I'm fine, Eda protected me from the blast." King said.

"Good, let's get out of here." Luz said.

"S-Stop! You are under-" A Scout was blown back, his arm completely gone as he screamed in agony on the ground.

"Anybody else got something to say?!" Luz shouted, looking around at Kikimora and the remaining scouts. "I didn't think so!"

Eda flipped Luz onto her back as King climbed on. Eda flew away as Belos came onto the roof. He figured now would be the best time to give a speech to his subjects.

"Children of the Isles, the Titan told me to let the Owl Lady go, but her curse shall leave her magicless." He said, "Let that be lesson to all about the dangers of wild magic."

Now... not a damn person believed that. After seeing how easily Luz freed Eda, it was clear that she kicked his ass, even more so in the minds of those that Luz owned the souls of. Lilith made it to the roof, holding her wound... one of them at least... and glared at Belos.

'You lied to me.' She thought, 'You told me no harm would come to her, you said you'd heal her... then you turn around and sentence her to petrification without even telling me.'

It was clear that Lilith did NOT believe in Belos... she would do anything to make him pay.

With the trio, they made it to the owl house, and Luz began to look for elixirs, only to see none.

"Shit, shit, shit!" Luz said, "What are we going to do!?"

"What if you-"

"NO!" Luz said, cutting King off, "I am not taking her soul!"

"Luz." Eda said, very tiredly as her eyes started turning black, "It's the only way."

"I... Eda... you realize what that means right?"

"It means I better get a mansion when I get to hell." Eda joked, "... Do it."

Luz felt horrible, but had to do it. She grabbed Eda's hand and started making the deal.

"In order to save you from the curse, you must give me your soul... do you accept?"

"I accept." Eda said.

Luz closed her eyes as Eda was engulfed in a bright light. The owl beast form began to recede and Eda was back to normal.. kind of. One eye was the normal gold color... the other was replaced with red instead of gold.

'That's never happened before.' Luz thought concerning Eda's eyes.

"So, how do you feel?" King asked.

"Normal as I can be, I guess." Eda said, checking herself for any changes.

"Can you still do magic?" Luz asked.

Eda held a finger up and made a spell circle, which was also red, before shattering.

"Uh... I guess not."

"But, it changed color so it might mean something." King said.

"Well, how about we deal with that tomorrow." Luz said, "Along with... the fact that I have no way home now."

"What?"

"Belos destroyed my book, it had the spell I used to open a portal to hell... and I had to destroy the portal door to prevent Belos from getting his hands on it."

Eda walked over and put her hands on the demon's shoulders.

"Hey, we'll figure it out, okay?" Eda asked, "Besides, that book isn't that important, you still have that weapon you made Grom into, plus there's a few spells you've learned since you've been here. You'll be fine."

"You think so?"

"You just fought the government and won, I don't think you have anything to really worry about." Eda said, "Now come on, I'm hungry... and... I'm really craving meat."

"Yeah... that might be a side effect of selling one's soul." Luz said as the group went into the house.

In the Castle, Belos limped to a room, stopping at a large closet.

"You're tough, Devil... but good will always triumph over evil." Belos said, opening the closet, revealing dozens of religious items, "Guards... get to work on the portal... the Day of Unity is approaching."

The guards nodded and rushed off.

In another castle, one that made Belos' look like an abandoned shack, a lone cloaked figure walked up to a large throne. He kneeled down and put a hand over his chest.

"I'm sorry your Sinfulness." The Cultist said, "B-b-but... we have lost the connection we had with the princess... w-w-we don't know where she is or what state she's in."

A large hand, with pure black skin, and sharp claws, gripped the armrest tightly.

"Find her." Lucifer said, in a voice so deep that the ground would shake simply by speak, "Or else..."

He shattered the arm rest by closing his fist.

"That will be your head."

The cultist stood up, bowed, and walked out. Lucifer was not one to make angry... especially when it came to Luz.

"Whoever is responsible... they'll WISH I was merciful enough to drag them down here."
