Chapter 4
The prince just stands there, not running, not attacking me, he just stands there staring at me.
I throw the keys at him and bring my hand around to my sword, preparing to flee to battle. "What?" I question before turning around. "Wait here until your men come, they should break through soon, and then escape with them" I send a kind smile over my shoulder. "I sure hope you make it out alive princey."
The prince scowls at my nickname, but doesn't make any other changes to his stance or facial expression. I shrug at him, even though all I want to do is turn around and shake some sense into him, and begin to walk off to join the battle.
"Wait" the prince calls after me. I take a moment to revel in his luxurious masculine voice before turning to icely face him.
"What?" I snap at him. "Don't make me regret my choices...princey." I smirk at my disrespectful and rude nickname.
The prince narrows his eyes at me and stalks forward until we're standing nose to nose. His breath on my cheeks sends shivers down my spine and goosebumps down my arms.
Instead of reacting to his closeness like I want to I simply raise an eyebrow at his rash actions. The prince blushes and steps back away from me.
After moments of restless listening to the shouts and sounds of battle raging right over our head the prince lets out a hesitant sigh.
"I know you, don't I?" he questions me, briefly looking me in the eyes before shifting his gaze to a barrel to his left.
My eyes widen at his question before I take control of my actions and pretend to act indifferent. Inside, I am jumping for joy. The prince remembers me. After all of these years of silently pining for his presence, to once again feel his affecttion, here he is standing infront of me...remembering me!
My eyes sparkle as I step towards the prince, my excitement almost boiling over. His attentive eyes snap over to me as I advance towards him.
Suddenly, the piercing boom of a cannon echoes around us, and my steps still as my hand tightens on my sword and my eyes flash to the wooden door seperating us from the chaos above.
"Prince...?" I question his identity, wanting to end my long unsolved mystery.
He clears his throat and I can feel his piercing gaze on the side of my face, causing another unwanted blush to redden my skin.
"I am Prince Gabriel" he lowers his voice to a whisper, though the sound outside could cover even the loudest yells. "If we have indeed met, you may call me Gabe. What name can I finally put to you madam?"
I take a deep breath, preparing myself to break even more rules to answer him, when everything falls silent.
There is no yelling. There is no clanging of swords. The only sound is the unmistakable stomp of boots as a person, a pirate or a soldier I do not know, crosses the deck to the door blocking us from the world above.
I still as the handle to the door turns quickly and the splintered wooden door is flung open.
I do believe my heart stops when my captain's soiled form grins down at me, before he switches his gaze questioningly to the free prince behind me...
