Chapter 7: Teenage Mutant Ninja Cyborgs
"I change I mind, I regret coming with you," You squeaked, staring wide-eyed at the walls of the sewage tunnel. It was dark, and the Doctor's Screwdriver was the only source of light, casting creepy green light over your faces.
"I knew you were a bad idea."
"Ex-cuse me?"
"None of my other companions would be this afraid," He explained. You glanced over to glare at him, and saw a teasing smirk on his face. You looked away, aggravated by his inconsistency.
"What other companions?"
"Well, I've had others before you. Too many to count, actually."
"Thanks Doc, I really feel special," You said, rolling your eyes.
The Doctor was about to continue before there was another bird squawk, sounding further away. "Where are we? Are we lost?" You asked.
The Doctor shrugged. "I suppose we keep walking. Follow the crumbs and such..." He trailed off.
"We're walking to our death."
"That's the spirit," He mumbled. You glared at him again.
"I'm scared, okay! I get cranky when I'm scared!" He didn't say anything. "Oh god..."
"What?"
"Are we underground now?"
"I'd imagine so, yes. Seeing as it's a sewer."
"Oh, screw this."
The Doctor and you kept walking, each footstep and breath sounding like a gunshot against the silence of the tunnel. Every so often the cybird would make a noise deeper in the sewer, forcing you and Doc to follow. It was an hour and a half later, as the Doctor's handy watch informed you, when you reached something even remotely interesting.
A door. The only door in the whole tunnel so far, and it looked like it belonged on a World War II submarine. The cybird was there too, perched atop the arch of the door, waiting patiently for you. You and Doc approached it without so much as a word, eager to not be bored.
You looked to the Doctor as he pressed his ear against it, knocking gently. There was no response until the cybird squawked loud enough to make your ears ring.
"Oi! Seriously?!" You yelled at it.
"It wants us to go inside."
"Yeah, no kidding."
The Doctor moved to turn the giant wheel on the door and open it. You quickly went to help.
It was difficult, but with you and the Doctor's combined efforts, you managed to push the door open. You shivered at the rush of cold air that followed.
"... What is this place?"
You were greeted with a room that looked like a medieval subway platform. In the gutter, where the trains would normally go, there were giant mounds of alien technology, like tubes and wiring. On the actual platform sat several lab tables cloaked in blood-soaked tarps. The tables had chains attached to secure a potential patient. One of the lab tables had been tossed aggressively on it's side. There was an intestine hanging off the corner.
"Oh my God..." You covered your nose and mouth at an attempt to keep away the smell of rotting flesh. You looked to the Doctor. Even he looked horror stricken. After a moment he swallowed, and re-hardened his gaze. Another moment and he had his screwdriver out and was scanning the alien tech in the gutter.
"Look around. See if you can find anything."
You nodded and pushed forward, careful to tiptoe past the tables. When your hip accidentally bumped a bloody table, sending it rolling slightly to the side, you gagged and looked upwards in disgust, only to see the source of light. There was a massive skylight made of stained glass, sending colored and dimmed sunlight into the lab. The glass depicted a naked man on his knees, praying upwards. Above him was an angel with a large stain over it's face so it's skin appeared discolored and gray.
"Doc?"
He turned his head toward yours, now with round glasses over his eyes. He followed your gaze.
"Lovely." He turned back to the gutter. "... It appears that these are scraps from a Sontaran space craft."
"Sontaran?"
"A warrior race. Like walking potatoes. I'm friends with one actually. Anyway, it appears they crashed here, but these scraps are of an older model. That's probably why they crashed in the first place." He closed his screwdriver and put it back in his jacket pocket before walking past you and gesturing for you to follow.
"You wear glasses?" You asked, walking behind him, eyes on the tables as you passed them.
He glanced at you over his shoulder. "Sometimes." He pulled them off and put them with his screwdriver. "They belonged to a friend of mine."
"... A companion?"
"Yes."
"What happened to them?"
He ignored you as you both stopped at the wooden door at the end of the room. He placed his palm against the wood, and it creaked open eerily slowly.
"A bedroom?" You asked. Doc shut the door behind you. There was a bed in the corner and a dresser against the wall, next to a few crates stocked with food. You stalked over to the dresser and pulled open one of the drawers. "Dresses. A woman did this?"
"Or is a slave."
"Are you saying just because she's a woman she can't be an evil scientist?"
The Doctor raised his eyebrows. "I didn't mean-"
"Why is this open?" A new voice. Coming from the entrance of the lab. A British woman's voice. "What'd you do? Yes you!" A squawk. "Get inside you winged rat." There was the chaotic flap of wings as you turned to the Doctor, horrified.
The Doctor looked down at you and slowly laced his fingers through yours, almost subconsciously. As slowly and quietly as he could, he pressed his back against the wall next to the hinges of the door and pulled you next to him, scowling at the closed bedroom door. He turned himself so if anyone were to see them, he'd be shielding you.
There were footsteps, followed by the table being pushed. She walked right up to the door and froze. "What are you looking at intestine for? ... You're eating it now, are you? ... Oh God I need to be rid of you, you stupid bird." Her voice sounded strange, like she had a cold.
She pushed the door open, and the Doctor immediately put his hand over your nose and mouth, keeping you from breathing too loud. Well, breathing at all, actually.
Panic crept up your throat as you realized you needed more air, but you forced yourself still. You could see the back of the woman's head, with her raven hair in a ballet bun, neatly off the back of her pale neck. With a purple silky medieval dress, she was easily of nobility. And she... wasn't doing anything. She was standing. No. She was listening. After a long while, her shoulders shook. She was crying. A sniffle came from her and she straightened herself. It wasn't long before the cybird could be heard by the door. She turned to it, but you couldn't see her face.
"What are you looking at? You just choked on intestine, you can't judge me."
Now your head felt light, and it felt as though your lungs were shriveling up. You would've punched the Doctor if there wasn't a crying, possibly evil, lady two steps from you.
She sniffled one more time and straightened herself. "Right. We need more patients." She walked out of the bedroom. "They will know me. That I promise you... God, why do I bother? You must have a brain the size of a gold coin." There was a squawk as the footsteps fading slightly.
The lady could be heard grunting as she supposedly climbed down into the gutter to search through the alien scraps.
You shoved the Doctor's hand away and breathed in heavily through your nose to limit noise. "I couldn't breathe!" You muttered.
"We have to make a run for it," He whispered, a hand resting on your wrist, ready to drag you by the arm.
"Are you crazy?!"
"Generally speaking, yes... Do you trust me?"
You blinked up at him, surprised the answer came so easily to you. "Yes."
"After three." You let his hand slide down and tighten around your palm. "One."
You stared into his brown eyes, ready to sprint to your death.
"Two."
You took a deep breath and held it in your chest.
"Three!"
(So um, I'm not dead? Hello everyone! I'm very happy to bring you another chapter! :D
BUUUT I need a little help! I'm trying to pick a theme song to help keep a general theme/tone going throughout the story. I'm thinking either "Sweet Dreams" by Emily Browning from the Sucker Punch Soundtrack OOOR some remix of "Eyes On Fire" by Blue Foundation. (I'm leaning towards "Sweet Dreams") BUT what I need from you guys is your opinion :D. Either say which one you like of the two or put down one of your own, in the comments. (Generally looking for something dark and eerie.)
THANKS GUYS! I LOVE YOU AND I HONESTLY DON'T KNOW HOW YOU PUT UP WITH MY INCONSISTENCY :DD)
(OH AND this story takes place between The Angels Take Manhattan (S7 E5) and The Snowmen (The S7 Christmas Special), I don't know if I already said that, but there you go :))
