-65- Dance with me / The extra chapter

When Zhan opened his eyes, he was blinded by bright daylight shining through the two large windows in the room. Only very slowly did he open his eyes and find himself in a totally strange room. Where was he? And more importantly, where is Yibo? And why can he not move? Why is it so tiring and painful to just turn his head? What happened?

Zhan, who slowly panicked, tried to scream for Yibo but didn't get a word out and next to him several devices started a loud alarm.

Just a moment later, a nurse came running into the room and called for a doctor: "Doctor come quickly, he's awake." She cried.

And the doctor came immediately, and with him, a few more people who Zhan did not know. The doctor asked one of the others, "Name and age of the patient?"

And the guy said, "Name Xiao Zhan, age 24." Zhan wanted to shake his head. How could he be 24 years old again? After all, he didn't go back in time. And where was Yibo?

"Tell me what happened." The doctor asked one of the women.

"The patient remained in a coma for a total of one year after being hit by a car in front of a cafe. The severe head injuries left the patient in a coma. All attempts to bring him out of the coma failed." She explained.

Zhan was stunned. He was in an accident and was in a coma for a year? So he never met Yibo? He's 24 years old and everything he thought he experienced was a dream? How could that be? How can none of this have happened? Then how did he know Wang Yibo, if he's never met him?

The doctor and his assistants examined Zhan while they didn't pay any attention to him... They pulled, tugged and pinched him and only now and then did the doctor ask: "Do you feel that? Are you in pain?"

A disgustingly bitter gel was poured into Zhan's mouth via a sippy cup, which should help him to speak again soon. Crying and desperate, Zhan kept looking at the door until finally his parents and siblings appeared there. And finally the doctor stopped his torture and left Zhan and his family alone for a while.

His parents told him that he had been in a café a year ago and was about to cross the street when he was hit by a car. The driver was an elderly woman who fell asleep behind the wheel and caused a serious accident, in which she herself died. "Miss Ann Yung died at the scene of the accident. You and three others were seriously injured. Fortunately, many helpers were on the scene immediately and the ambulances were there quickly enough, otherwise you probably wouldn't be alive either." Said his mother.

"That's right. Someone sat next to you and pressed his jacket against your wound on your head the whole time. He only let go when the emergency doctor took over." Explained Zhan's father.

With a scratchy voice he asked, "Who was he? Can I thank him?"

"Unfortunately we don't know. The police failed to take his details because everything was so chaotic and hectic." His mother replied.

Although they all explained to Zhan what happened, he couldn't believe it. All that he experienced should have been nothing more than a dream? Wang Yibo, their love for each other, their wedding and their son, all this is nothing but a fantasy?

For Zhan, the long process of his body's recovery began from that day on. He had been transferred to a rehab center where he had to do exercises every day. He trained every single day and received psychological counseling. But no matter how many times he told himself that he had to forget his dream, he couldn't.

No sooner could he move his hands than he searched the Internet for Wang Yibo. But he found nothing. He was glad that his grandmother was alive and came to visit him often. Somehow he had hoped that she could explain all this to him. He hoped she would tell him he would meet Yibo. But all she told him was to get well and stop thinking about this dream. "It was just a dream your brain produced to help you through the hard time in the coma."

"But how could something like this help me? I woke up and Yibo was not there. Maybe it was all just a dream, but my feelings for him are real. I am convinced he is out there somewhere."

"Maybe he exists. But don't get too attached to it. You must stop thinking about that dream. It's only tormenting you and it's getting in the way of your recovery. So let go and get better." Said his grandmother.

After three months in rehab and after everyone told him that Wang Yibo did not exist and that he should stop clinging to his dream, he gave up and tried to forget his dream. The recovery of his body suddenly progressed better and faster and after another three months, he was able to move home to his parents with walkers.

His friends came to visit him often and only once did Zhan talk to Chuyue about his dream. Zhan said: "Isn't it strange that Miss Ann Yung was in my dream and she is the one who hit me? I knew her name even before my parents told me."

"Well, it's not so strange. The doctor said it's possible that even in a coma you can still be aware of things around you. So it's possible that someone talked about her in your presence and you overheard it in the coma." Zhan didn't have anything to say about it.

After a total of 8 months, Zhan's heart was finally ready to let go of Yibo and accept that he was nothing but a dream. He had to accept it. Because as soon as he was allowed to drive again, he drove to the village where Yibo lived in his dream. The village exists, just like the river and the waterfall. But no Wang family ever lived there. At least that's what a neighbor of the house that Zhan remembered as Yibo's childhood home told him.

He walked through the meadows along the river and sat by the waterfall for a long time. How could he see all this in his dream when he supposedly had never been there before? How could he recognize all these things even though he was there for the first time?

It took Zhan a year to fully recover and move back into the shared apartment with Yu Bin and Chuyue. There were always strange coincidences that reminded Zhan of his dream. So also that he saw a picture of a woman in a fashion magazine and he knew immediately that it was Luna Li. He even drove to the house where she lived in his dream once and she actually lived there with two of her model friends.

When Zhan simply approached her, she smiled and said, "I'm honored that such a handsome man is obviously interested in me."

"Ah, um, it's not like that. I just feel like I know you."

"Oh, yeah? Well, maybe you've seen me in catalogues. or on billboards."

"Maybe I have." Zhan replied. When she asked him to have coffee with her, he gladly accepted. He didn't want anything from her, but maybe she could meet Chuyue and they could become a couple, like in his dream?

When they were in the café, she said: "My friends and I want to go to the new club that opened this weekend. If you want, you're welcome to join us with some friends."

"Mmm, I'll ask my friends." Zhan replied. Hearing her mention the club gave him a sting in his heart for a moment. But he didn't let on and quickly blocked out the thought of what was about to occur.

On Friday evening, the time had come. Zhan, Chuyue, Yu Bin and Bai Shu drove to the club and met Luna Li and her friends. Since Zhan was physically fit and healthy again, but sometimes still weak, he did not go on the dance floor. He rather watched his friends dancing and having fun. And he enjoyed to see that Luna Li and Chuyue obviously got along well.

Zhan had already drunk two beers and was getting tired. Even though it was only just after midnight. He waved Chuyue to him and told him that he would go home. "Already? The night has just begun."

"I know. But I' m really tired and I just want to go home. But have a good time and don't make too much noise when you get home."

"Okay. But take a cab and don't forget to lock the door. And if anything happens, call me and I'll come straight home."

"Yes, Dad." Zhan said laughing. Chuyue was always worried about Zhan and often acted like a worried father.

After Zhan went to the toilet, said goodbye to his other friends, as well as to Luna Li and her friends, he headed for the exit.

Zhan's heart was racing like crazy as he headed for the exit. He knew that it was because of his dream and he had great difficulty suppressing the memories. He even caught himself several times that evening wishing that Yibo would show up here.

But Zhan reached the exit without anyone grabbing his wrist and pulling him onto the dance floor with him, as then. He was disappointed because it didn't happen what he had longed for. Even though he didn't want to admit it.

When Zhan reached the exit and the cold air came towards him after he opened the door a crack. Suddenly someone reached for his hand. As if frozen, Zhan stopped and didn't move an inch. He didn't even dare to turn around and see who was grabbing his hand.

Zhan's heart was beating so hard that it almost hurt. His thoughts circled and his lungs felt as if he was about to drown. And suddenly the person behind him hugged him and whispered, "Dance with me." Without waiting for an answer from Zhan, the person pulled Zhan behind him to the dance floor.

When Zhan then lifted his head and the person stood in front of him, his knees gave way for a moment and Yibo, who was really there and standing in front of him, caught him and said, "I didn't expect such a reaction, but it's great when I leave such an impression on you."

"What, how?" That's all Zhan could get out of it. Everything he dreamed hadn't been real, he had to keep telling himself that. He wanted to kiss and hug Yibo right away, but he held back. And that was an agonizing feeling.

Was Yibo really there? Or is it like in his dream and he faces the lost soul of Yibo?

Yibo put both arms around Zhan and said, "Come on. Dance with me."

"I, I cannot dance." Zhan replied.

"I bet you can, with me. Let's give it a try. Afterwards, I'll tell you about me."

How could Zhan refuse? Yibo pulled Zhan close to him, put his arms around Zhan's body and together they began to dance to the beat of the music. The feeling of being so close to Yibo, sensing his scent, feeling his warmth and feeling his breath on his neck, seemed so familiar to Zhan that he just relaxed and gave Yibo the lead.

As a quiet song began, Yibo adjusted the tempo of the two. But in the middle of the song Yibo stopped, looked Zhan deep into his eyes and kissed Zhan. Just as it had been in the dream. But this time Yibo didn't touch Zhan's butt but gently released the kiss and said, "I love you Xiao Zhan and I'm glad you finally came out of the coma and are healthy again."

"From where?" Marbled Zhan, who was being held by Yibo.

Yibo took Zhan outside with him. He put his jacket on Zhan and said, "I saw you at the cafe that day and I fell in love with you instantly. And just as I was about to run after you and talk to you, the accident happened."

"So you were the one who kept me alive by pressing his jacket on my wound to my head?" Zhan curiously asked.

"Yes, that was me. And I visited you often at the hospital and I also went to the nursing home and visited you there almost every day when your family was gone. I wished that you would wake up when I was there. But unfortunately that didn't happen. And when I heard you woke up, I suddenly didn't dare to come, because I was afraid you'd think I was a crazy fool."

"How could I think Wang Yibo is a crazy fool?"

"You know my name?"

"Mmm, I dreamed about you."

"Me? What did you dream? Were we a couple? Did you have feelings for me in your dream, too? And more importantly, could you imagine being with me? I know it's sudden and we don't really know each other. But for two years I've wanted nothing more than to be with you."

"So one thing at a time. Yes, I was dreaming about you. To explain to you here and in a hurry what I dreamt is simply impossible. And the dream was really weird and you'd probably think I was crazy. But, yes, in my dream we were together. We had been much more than a couple. And, yes, I would like to be with you. Even though we don't really know each other yet."

Yibo touched Zhan's cheeks with both hands and kissed him gently. "No matter how crazy the dream was, if you and I were even more than a couple in it, I hope we can be in the real world too." Then Yibo loosened something from his wrist that turned out to be a bracelet. The same bracelet that Zhan saw and wore in his dream.

Yibo put the bracelet on Zhan and said, "This is to symbolize that you belong to me now. And now I'm taking you home with me, okay?"

"Do you live here in Beijing?"

"Mmm, I do. I know it's cold outside, but we can still take my bike. If you're not too scared of it."

"I'm not." Zhan replied smiling. And together they drove home to Yibo. The place Yibo, in Zhan's dream, had gotten for him and Zhan.

And they spent not just that one night together, but every single night until they were married a year later.

Much of what happened in his dream never happened or had never happened. So Yibo and his older brother did not grow up with stepmother and father, but with their biological and very loving parents, who immediately welcomed Zhan into their family. Yibo never had an accident and was never in a coma.

Zhan did not work for the editorial office anymore and was offered a job as a TV reporter instead. Yibo studied, but didn't become a social pedagogue but a reporter like Zhan. They worked together for a TV news show.

They also never saw lost souls, never met shamans and were never separated from each other.

Little by little the dream faded and made room for the memories of what really happened since he met Yibo in the club. Only one thing his grandmother told him shortly after the wedding: "You will have your son in a few years and be a happy family."

And four years after they filed for adoption, they met little A-Yuan and adopted him. At least that was also one thing that Zhan had experienced in his dream and what actually happened. Every now and then strange little things happened that Zhan knew about before. But at some point, it just wasn't more to him than déjà vu.

And unlike in Zhan's dream, he and Yibo hadn't had so many hurdles ahead of them. Instead, the two of them came together that night when they met at the club and since then they have had a harmonious and very loving relationship and marriage, in which they not only tell each other that they love each other, but also let the other feel it. They are great fathers for their five year old son and even plan to adopt another child.

End........ But this time really. ;)
